Best Copyright Free Music for YouTube Videos — Top 3 Sites - YouTube

Channel: Think Media

[0]
so finding high quality music for your
[2]
youtube videos can actually be a huge
[4]
challenge on the one hand
[5]
you've got copyright issues with a lot
[7]
of the good music and then on the other
[9]
hand a lot of the free music
[10]
is just terrible right so what are the
[13]
best sites
[14]
for copyright free music and
[15]
royalty-free music
[17]
in this video i've got three of my
[19]
favorites and we're gonna jump into that
[21]
right now
[30]
what's up sean here with think media
[31]
bringing you the best tips and tools for
[33]
building your influence with online
[34]
video and on this channel
[35]
we do a lot of tech gear reviews as well
[37]
as youtube tips and strategy videos just
[39]
like this one so if you're new here
[41]
consider subscribing and at any point
[42]
during the video also check out show
[44]
notes and links in the description below
[46]
i'll list out all of the royalty-free
[48]
music sites as well as any other tips
[50]
in the youtube description let's jump
[53]
into
[54]
the video so finding great music for
[56]
your youtube videos is very important
[58]
music creates energy it sets the tone it
[60]
sets the vibe
[61]
and it really can be the difference
[63]
maker between someone really enjoying a
[65]
video or leaving a video and clicking
[67]
away
[67]
to something else but music is tough
[71]
on youtube specifically because a lot of
[73]
us would probably love to use
[74]
popular songs from you know top 40
[77]
artists and billboard charts but the
[78]
problem there
[79]
is you're going to run into copyright
[80]
issues if you upload videos with
[82]
copywritten songs number one
[84]
you might just lose monetization the
[85]
monetization will go to the artist and
[87]
so now
[88]
that money won't be coming to you on
[89]
your youtube channel number two
[91]
it might not be viewable in some regions
[93]
if it sees there's a copy written song
[95]
on your video
[96]
then maybe certain countries can't see
[98]
it so that could affect your viewership
[100]
and number three the worst thing that
[102]
could happen is you could get a
[103]
copyright strike and potentially get
[105]
you know your channel in bad standing or
[108]
even have videos deleted or taken down
[110]
so you really want to be careful when it
[112]
comes to copywritten
[114]
music on youtube and so if you're
[115]
looking for music the two terms to look
[117]
for are
[118]
royalty free music or no copyright
[121]
music now there's actually a lot of good
[124]
sites that
[124]
you can pay money to get songs that you
[126]
can use in your videos
[128]
and they give you the permission and
[130]
sometimes they can be great quality but
[131]
this video is all about free sites so
[133]
everything we're talking about
[134]
is 100 not just royalty-free but also
[138]
free in the sense that you don't
[139]
exchange money to use those
[141]
tracks alright so with all that said
[143]
let's jump into the best places to get
[145]
good music
[146]
so my first recommendation for finding
[148]
great music that you can use in your
[149]
videos with no
[150]
issues is the youtube audio library and
[153]
if you're logged into your youtube
[154]
channel
[155]
you can just go inside of your creator
[156]
studio go down to create in the lower
[159]
left-hand section on desktop
[161]
and just click the audio library then it
[163]
opens it up
[164]
and what's cool is you've got all of
[166]
these different tracks that you can
[167]
download
[168]
to bring into your editing software for
[170]
your videos and you can sort them by
[172]
the genre by the mood in case you
[175]
already know what kind of vibe you want
[176]
your video
[176]
even by the instruments by how long they
[179]
are and things like that
[180]
and actually youtube just uploaded a
[182]
whole lot of new tracks which is very
[184]
very cool now as far as the music
[186]
quality of these tracks
[188]
it's kind of hit or miss but there's
[189]
definitely some gems that you can find
[191]
in fact
[192]
check these out
[200]
[Music]
[203]
and so i'd love to hear what you think
[204]
about those tracks that we just listened
[205]
to but those are from the youtube music
[207]
library and again on this channel
[209]
we do a lot of hip-hop music as well as
[212]
kind of chilled
[213]
laid-back kind of sample music and
[215]
things like that
[216]
but again there's all kinds of different
[218]
genres here so even if you wanted more
[220]
like a poppy happy vibe
[221]
you've got that as well
[229]
and then one other thing to note about
[230]
the youtube audio library
[232]
is they also have a lot of free sound
[234]
effects that you can use
[235]
in your video so if you just go to the
[236]
sound effects tab you can look through
[238]
here download whatever
[240]
you want and then make your videos
[241]
cooler than a polar bear's toenails
[245]
that was a sound effect from the youtube
[247]
library now the second
[249]
set of sites that i would recommend for
[250]
finding some great music for your videos
[253]
are these youtube channels like no
[255]
copyright
[256]
sounds now this is a great channel it's
[258]
got a lot of edm
[259]
vibe type songs like this one right here
[270]
and there's been a lot of high quality
[272]
youtube channels like this that have
[273]
been popping
[274]
up lately including um trap nation this
[277]
has got a great playlist of songs that
[279]
you can use here
[280]
again kind of more trap music edm
[282]
there's
[283]
bass nation so great songs on there
[286]
and then there's also this audio library
[288]
so some of those other sites again are
[290]
going to be a little more edm
[292]
upbeat which is great for maybe a lot of
[293]
the vlogs and videos you want to edit
[295]
but
[296]
this audio library no copyright music
[299]
channel
[299]
has got a lot of cool songs for some
[302]
variety
[303]
of styles so if you kind of like you
[305]
know casey neistat's kind of music vibe
[308]
a lot of those style of songs you'll
[310]
find in there or even just more upbeat
[312]
poppy and not necessarily all edm for
[315]
example i love this song called rock
[317]
angel
[317]
and this actually was used on a video on
[319]
my sean cannell channel
[320]
about my top seven personal development
[323]
books
[324]
so what are the best self-improvement
[326]
books in this video i'm gonna share
[328]
seven
[329]
must read personal development books
[332]
coming up
[335]
and then another one to mention is
[336]
called vlog no copyright so again
[339]
sites like this are popping up if you go
[340]
to the related channels you can find
[342]
some other ones
[343]
and we'll also post all the links to
[345]
these in the youtube description
[346]
as well as some bonus ones that we
[348]
didn't mention
[349]
but now here's a few important
[351]
distinctions when it comes to these
[353]
sites i'm on the
[354]
vlog no copyright music site and on the
[356]
about page it says this is great music
[358]
that's free to download and use in your
[360]
youtube and twitch videos
[362]
but always give credit to the artist and
[365]
actually specifically what you want to
[366]
do is go into each individual video
[368]
click on it and then look in the youtube
[370]
description and what you'll see
[372]
is it says you're free to use this song
[374]
in any of your videos
[375]
but you must include the following in
[377]
the video description and it says copy
[379]
and paste
[380]
and so then what you would do is just
[382]
select that of information and make sure
[383]
that ends up in your youtube
[385]
description and so that's typically what
[387]
you need to do for compliance
[389]
but research each individual youtube
[391]
channel and even track individually just
[393]
to make sure
[394]
you get the right information put into
[396]
the youtube description
[398]
additionally you might be wondering how
[399]
do i actually download the song so in
[400]
this case
[401]
um there is a link to the artist union
[404]
where you can grab
[405]
this particular song but also you might
[407]
run into a case where they actually
[408]
don't link to a place like that where
[410]
you can download it directly
[412]
and so if you ever want to download a
[414]
youtube video
[415]
um and actually download the video or
[417]
just get the audio out of a youtube
[419]
video my favorite piece of software
[421]
is called 4k video downloader i just use
[424]
the free version
[425]
you know there's other few sites on the
[426]
on the web as well
[428]
and so uh whatever you need to do if you
[429]
want to just pull the song right off of
[431]
the youtube video that's one piece of
[432]
software
[433]
that can help you do it now what i love
[434]
about these youtube channels is that
[436]
there's a lot of songs especially if you
[438]
dig through here that are absolutely
[439]
incredible that really feel like top 40
[441]
music
[442]
that have a really cool vibe a unique
[444]
vibe to them and so they are a great
[446]
resource and not only that
[448]
the fact that they give you permission
[449]
for twitch use youtube use
[451]
some of them say commercial and that's
[453]
important to know some of the sites
[455]
they say it's okay to use in a youtube
[457]
video but they might not give you
[458]
permission to use it in a commercial
[460]
video meaning
[461]
um you know right now omar and the think
[463]
media team is shooting this and he'll do
[465]
commercial jobs where he's getting paid
[466]
and charging a client
[468]
to shoot videos for them technically you
[471]
couldn't use that music
[472]
for that paid project if you don't have
[474]
commercial rights
[475]
but what a lot of the artists will say
[477]
like hey if you're vlogging if you're
[478]
just a youtuber
[479]
you can use it but it depends so that's
[481]
why you kind of got to read the fine
[482]
print figure it out
[484]
and so a lot of these sites will let you
[485]
do you know youtube use
[487]
commercial use and monetize your videos
[491]
or monetize
[492]
your twitch streams in the process but
[493]
here's the downside
[495]
the one risk you take with this music is
[497]
that if someday
[499]
the artist you know stronger by
[501]
lemonfight here
[502]
wanted to add their song to soundscan
[505]
which is how youtube
[506]
hears music in your videos if you upload
[508]
a video with a beyonce song or
[509]
macklemore song and it's like you've got
[511]
copyright music it's because youtube's
[513]
listening
[514]
if any of these artists ever uploaded
[516]
their song to that
[518]
all of your past videos with their music
[520]
could potentially
[522]
be demonetized or rather they would take
[524]
the monetization over to that artist
[526]
so again it's not really a huge risk i
[529]
don't want you to worry about that
[530]
but if there was a piece of content you
[532]
wanted to put out that you know would be
[534]
yours for life that
[535]
you would always get the youtube revenue
[537]
off of it it would never have any issues
[540]
these you're probably fine like i
[543]
wouldn't want you to worry
[544]
but you're you know you are putting your
[546]
their music on your videos
[548]
and they could shift those terms later
[549]
you'd never have any legal issues
[551]
they would never be able because you're
[552]
like i got it off a free site i put
[554]
these things in the description
[555]
you don't have to worry about like
[557]
getting probably copyright flagged or
[559]
anything
[559]
but again specifically from a
[561]
monetization point that's happened to me
[563]
before i used some music that i had
[565]
permission for
[566]
and then actually a couple years later
[568]
sound scan i got some emails and they're
[569]
like your video actually has some
[570]
copyright music
[571]
the video didn't get taken down it had
[573]
no limitations but now the
[575]
monetization was going to the other
[576]
person and if you follow think media for
[578]
very long
[579]
we actually don't rely on youtube ads
[581]
too much we focus on monetizing in other
[583]
ways in fact if you want to see our
[584]
video on
[585]
you know some of the best ways to make
[586]
money on youtube without
[588]
adsense we'll link that up on the
[589]
youtube card and put in the description
[591]
below
[591]
but again i just want you to be in the
[593]
know when using this music i don't think
[595]
you have anything to worry about i think
[596]
these sites are awesome
[598]
but if you use like the youtube library
[600]
never have any problems
[601]
if you use these you might you probably
[603]
won't but you could have issues
[605]
in the future but the other thing i've
[607]
done for a lot of projects and a lot of
[609]
videos is actually reach out to the
[610]
artist directly now again
[612]
keep in mind the difference between some
[614]
of these independent
[615]
rising artists versus mainstream artists
[618]
again you can't really
[619]
email g-eazy and be like yo can i use
[622]
your music keeping in mind that not only
[623]
is he not going to see that
[624]
but actually his music is also owned by
[627]
record labels and
[628]
different people so you actually would
[631]
have to get rights from multiple
[633]
different people
[633]
in the case of a lot of these
[634]
independent artists they own the music
[636]
themselves and if you ask
[638]
a lot of times they'll be pretty
[639]
agreeable to let you use their music if
[641]
they see your inquiry
[643]
so for example one of the artists i like
[645]
is peter cooley or
[646]
cully and you can see his uh soundcloud
[649]
page here
[650]
and he's got an email it says um you
[652]
know all inquiries and so he lets you
[654]
know where you can email him but he's
[655]
also got a twitter account so i actually
[657]
tweeted him and i said you know hey
[659]
peter love your music what are your
[661]
terms of use on social media he replied
[663]
to me
[663]
just tag me somewhere and um in the
[665]
tweet for credit and you're all set and
[667]
i was actually asking about doing it on
[669]
a twitter video
[670]
so you could fire off an email reach out
[672]
to that person on social media
[673]
and i found that a lot of these artists
[675]
that are kind of on the climb and
[676]
wanting to get exposure for their music
[678]
will a lot of times be willing to
[680]
collaborate especially with content
[682]
creators like
[683]
yourself and so again i asked for
[684]
permission talk to the artist and once i
[686]
got the approval i was able to make a
[688]
super cool video and in this case
[690]
we used one of peter's tracks in this
[692]
video that we did at the seven magic
[694]
mountains
[695]
here in las vegas
[703]
[Music]
[708]
so i think that this method of finding
[710]
cool music and really unique music for
[712]
your videos is great as far as reaching
[714]
out to artists goes
[715]
but again the downside there is that the
[717]
same thing could happen
[718]
yes you get permission yes maybe they
[720]
just say put my link in the description
[722]
below
[723]
and you may or may not know if it's
[725]
going to be again in sound scan or not
[726]
so
[727]
again if i go down this path i'm usually
[729]
not wanting to bank on being able to
[731]
monetize the videos
[732]
typically there's no issues but there
[734]
might be and it's that artist's
[736]
prerogative of whether or not they
[738]
upload that to youtube's
[739]
you know sound scan or not and so again
[742]
if you don't want to bank on any
[743]
monetization
[745]
you get permission from the artist
[746]
incorporating your video and you're good
[748]
to go and you've got some great
[749]
music so really quick let's recap what
[751]
we've covered so far but i also have a
[753]
few other tips and things you might want
[755]
to consider
[756]
when it comes to finding great music for
[758]
your videos so the first one is
[760]
again if you want complete no strings
[762]
attached
[763]
no worries about any issues at all and
[766]
the guarantee that you'll be able to
[767]
monetize your videos
[768]
really for life then the youtube audio
[770]
library as far as free sites go
[773]
is probably your best bet not the best
[775]
music necessarily but there are some
[777]
great tracks there
[778]
and so something to consider secondly
[781]
those other sites
[782]
offer a lot of great music or asking the
[784]
artists themselves again
[786]
really cool music probably no issues and
[788]
it's something i would definitely
[789]
recommend
[790]
but you might encounter encounter some
[792]
problems later
[793]
which brings me to my bonus tip and that
[796]
is actually that
[796]
if you want some great unique music that
[799]
also has no copyright issues
[802]
and that can be used in your youtube
[803]
videos you actually might want to pay
[805]
for it and i don't mean again
[806]
downloading a popular song on itunes for
[809]
a couple dollars but typically
[810]
you will pay either for individual
[813]
tracks from a
[814]
royalty-free music website or you'll pay
[817]
for a subscription service now we're
[819]
gonna actually do a full video
[820]
about this in the future but just to
[822]
touch on it really quick
[824]
my personal favorite site is actually
[827]
audio jungle
[828]
and there's a lot of great um music here
[830]
there's music packs a lot of the music
[832]
that you hear in think media videos on
[834]
video influencer videos
[835]
came from audio jungle so i definitely
[837]
recommend checking out their library
[839]
i'll link to that in the description
[840]
below
[840]
and then another option that is really
[842]
popular with a lot of youtube creators
[844]
is epidemic sound and again a site like
[847]
that's pretty cool because you can
[848]
actually license tracks individually and
[850]
a lot of times
[851]
they'll be like about a hundred dollars
[853]
each but you get the you get the rights
[855]
to use that song in your videos
[856]
but they also offer subscriptions to um
[859]
youtube creators
[860]
depending on the size of your channel so
[861]
if you have less than 500 000
[863]
subscribers a month it's 15
[864]
a month and then it goes up to 30 or if
[867]
you had a huge channel
[869]
150 would be the most you pay per month
[871]
so again a pretty big investment
[873]
but if you're really taking youtube
[874]
seriously and you want some high quality
[876]
music that you know
[877]
you aren't going to have any copyright
[879]
issues with and basically
[881]
makes you immune to what potentially
[883]
could happen dabbling in some of that
[885]
free music
[886]
using paid music is definitely a great
[889]
solution and again if you want to check
[892]
out a free trial with that or check out
[893]
audio jungle we'll post links to
[895]
everything in the description below
[897]
question of the day we discovered some
[899]
of my favorite sites for royalty-free
[901]
music but i'd love to hear from you
[902]
if you have any recommendations for
[904]
great places to get great music that you
[906]
can use in your youtube videos
[908]
so definitely post those in the comment
[909]
section below and remember some of the
[911]
best tips and feedback
[912]
come from you the think media community
[913]
so definitely connect with everybody
[915]
in the comments section so thanks for
[917]
