[42]
Without further ado,
[43]
let's check out this innovative tiny house design that's great for people who
[47]
want to retire in a tiny house.
[54]
Hi, this is Ray and this is my tiny house.
[59]
I actually had a heart attack that woke me up and said that life wasn't working
[63]
like it was and so I wanted to find something different.
[69]
Space was not an issue for me, but if I was going to do this,
[72]
it was go big or go home.
[73]
I wanted to use everything I had learned through my life and build something that
[77]
I wanted. And then I wanted to get out of the rat race. And actually
[80]
wanted to move to a different area.
[97]
Hi. Welcome to my teeny house.
[101]
So this is designed with two slide outs. One,
[104]
has a three by five slide out and one that has a three by seven slide.
[109]
It is designed to be on grid or off-grid and this is the main living room up
[115]
front here. I wanted to have a lot of windows.
[117]
So we have the base set up in here when we did the windows up top so that we can
[121]
actually have lots of lighting in here. Um,
[124]
this also is designed for multiple types of heating. So first of all,
[128]
this is a, a small, uh, standard stove that you can use to heat.
[133]
It only takes up to nine inch logs, but it's great for a little fire,
[136]
puts out about 8,000 BTUs. If you don't want to use that,
[140]
you can go to the propane.
[142]
I wanted to do something that when you came in you just went 'ah' and so one of
[146]
the things you do is break up the wall. So what I came up with,
[149]
the idea was why not put a three foot chair rail and actually make the break the
[155]
color up. And that's where you see the cherry in the middle there.
[159]
This is the large slide-out large slide out has multiple purposes.
[164]
So the outside of it is for holding batteries and the inside was turned into a
[169]
couch.
[169]
And the reason why it's a little bit higher is we had to put in built in beds.
[174]
So basically this handles two beds. If you open them up like this,
[179]
they will pull out and you can actually pull them out here.
[183]
A little touchy because they're a little bit of weight, but you can pull them out.
[189]
Just going straight down. You've got two cushions.
[192]
I had specially designed for the bed, full twin bed,
[197]
put your pillows back around it and you've got a complete bed.
[200]
The other one does identical what this one does.
[203]
So in the case of if you have a single person, you can make this a twin bed.
[207]
It's over six foot long so there's no problem.
[210]
Stay sitting here and sleeping here and then when you're done,
[213]
basically just takes a couple minutes, move your pillows,
[218]
tucks under slides back in.
[223]
So I'm 57 years old and Um, I was planning on retiring.
[227]
So when I designed this I thought, well,
[230]
I really didn't want to be upstairs all the time in a loft.
[233]
I wanted to be able to sleep here,
[236]
offer sleeping for multiple people. Then
[239]
have the upstairs for guests and that kind of stuff.
[249]
The other thing is because it's a little higher when you're sitting there,
[253]
your feet dangle and that's not good for your feet,
[255]
so you can lose your pressure in your feet.
[257]
So what we did is we put these in here.
[259]
I did put these in here as a design so that you can use them as step ladders to
[264]
get up there. You can use it for foot rest and if you have children,
[268]
small children, stuff like that.
[269]
I found out that people think that's a great spot for putting,
[271]
children can actually have a seat for that. And then of course storage,
[276]
storage and storage. Everybody in the teeny house community
[279]
wants to know about storage.
[284]
So what I said is, okay, let's do a Gable roof.
[286]
this is a nine 12 pitch and this is the sixth pitch.
[289]
So the pitches are a little bit different because of the sizes.
[292]
You could see a little gap in the roof up there and you'll see the air in it.
[295]
That's because this light out still has three inches to go out.
[298]
Once it locks into place, then we do this, if you look at the small slide out,
[302]
what you do and when you're done is you just fill it with neoprene.
[306]
Well let's say that I really wanted to have a big area
[312]
this comes all the way out.
[319]
So now I can actually sit here and I have a full kitchen table,
[324]
A little bit high. This adjusts up or down. You can actually bring a chair in.
[329]
You've got a full kitchen tables. You can sit here, you can sit here and have dinner.
[336]
So now we've done the main living area.
[338]
We're going to show you some of the comforts, the comforts that I needed.
[342]
Closet. It's fully Cedar, lined, my golf clothes,
[345]
my hats and all my stuff.
[348]
Nice little two foot by two foot closet.
[351]
So this right here for doing your,
[355]
I have two skylights and so this controller, they're solar powered skylights.
[359]
So basically I can open and close the skylights with this controller and the
[363]
skylights have blinds. So in the winter time you can take them,
[366]
close them and you don't have to look at the rain coming in.
[375]
So one of the things is that kitchens are important.
[380]
So what I want to do is be able to have a good sink and be able to wash my
[385]
dishes and do everything.
[387]
And I want to be able to cook and I wanted to make sure that I had a exhaust
[391]
correct. He wants water. That's what he wants.
[397]
So what I did was research everything. Get with high efficiency
[402]
You may pay a little bit more. Um,
[403]
some of the things get warranties on some don't
[406]
but if you really want to live here, if this is going to be your home,
[409]
invest in your appliances and invest in good stuff.
[413]
This is just like a real house.
[415]
You're not going to see where you're missing things.
[417]
There's tons and tons of storage.
[419]
I can design a pantry door that basically slides
[428]
in my original design.
[429]
I was going to put a window in the bathroom and I changed it to a back door.
[433]
You really do need to have two in and outs in your house because the fact is if
[438]
something happens in the middle, you need to get out through the one way.
[444]
We have a standard shower. You can actually have jets come from the top,
[447]
from the sides and from the bottoms.
[451]
It's kind of like a massaging shower. It's a fantastic shower.
[455]
This is a Luno system. What it does is dehumidify as the air,
[459]
and it's designed to take air from the outside, bring it in,
[463]
and equalize it to the air pressure that's inside.
[466]
And then there's another one in the kitchen that takes it, equalizes it,
[470]
and sends it to the outside.
[471]
You get a lot of humidity and stuff in small places.
[474]
This helps prevent that and you can tell it. It's nice in here.
[494]
Everything I own, there's no mortgage.
[498]
I wanted to show the dreamers what could be, uh,
[503]
what your possibilities are to give you the American dream back.
