Ted Cruz FLOPS Trying To Stop Infrastructure Bill - YouTube

Channel: The Young Turks

[0]
over the weekend the senate pushed the
[2]
bipartis bipartisan infrastructure bill
[5]
over another hurdle uh and of course
[7]
that is the legislative filibuster
[10]
now uh that requires 60 votes in the
[12]
senate in order to pass
[14]
any piece of legislation with a few
[16]
exceptions on reconciliation bills
[19]
now senators easily overcame another
[21]
60-vote hurdle
[22]
on a vote of 68-29
[26]
as many as 20 republicans are expected
[28]
to join democrats in the
[30]
early or evenly split senate for what
[32]
could be a robust final tally
[35]
if approved it would go to the house so
[37]
i want to be clear
[38]
in stating something that i hope we've
[40]
been clear on so far
[42]
the senate infrastructure bill the
[44]
bipartisan infrastructure bill
[46]
is different from what's being referred
[48]
to as the reconciliation infrastructure
[51]
bill
[51]
or what some are now referring to as the
[54]
budget bill which we'll get to in just a
[55]
second
[55]
but moving back to the bipartisan
[58]
infrastructure bill which of course
[59]
um allocates an additional 550 billion
[63]
dollars in new spending
[65]
the senate uh could pass the one
[66]
trillion dollar bipartisan
[68]
infrastructure bill as early as tuesday
[69]
morning tuesday of this week
[71]
the plan which calls for 550 billion
[74]
dollars in new spending on
[75]
transportation
[75]
utilities and broadband is expected to
[78]
get through the chamber with democratic
[80]
and republican support
[82]
now it didn't pass easily or or this
[86]
overcoming this hurdle um did have a few
[89]
hiccups
[90]
so i'm just gonna go to one video uh
[92]
featuring ted cruz
[93]
and the shenanigans he engaged in where
[96]
he thought he was making a good point
[98]
but as usual only embarrassed himself
[100]
let's watch
[105]
as admiral akbar said in star wars
[109]
it's a trap
[113]
this is a trap this is a trap
[118]
now listen for democrats
[121]
it's what they campaign on if you're a
[124]
democrat
[125]
you want to raise taxes and raise
[127]
spending you want more debt from china
[128]
that's what democrats do
[131]
but for republicans come on guys
[137]
we're like charlie brown
[141]
with chuck schumer being lucy in the
[143]
football
[145]
and you've got republicans happily
[147]
running going oh he's going to keep the
[148]
football he's going to keep the football
[150]
and every time lucy pulls the football
[152]
up back
[154]
and we go up in the air and land on our
[156]
rear
[159]
it'd be nice
[162]
for republicans not to fall for it again
[169]
so ted cruz feels that this is a trap
[171]
because uh voting in favor of the
[172]
bipartisan infrastructure deal
[174]
paves the way for the passage of the
[177]
reconciliation
[178]
infrastructure bill which includes
[180]
everything that we actually care about
[181]
the human infrastructure components
[183]
funding for child care elder care
[185]
um you know free community college the
[189]
honestly more robust version of the
[191]
infrastructure deal
[193]
now uh jank i wanted to get your
[195]
thoughts on uh what ted cruz said there
[197]
but more importantly
[198]
like this strategy like do you think
[199]
that
[201]
democrats are handling this
[202]
appropriately right there seems to be
[205]
this
[205]
notion that they're definitely going to
[207]
pass a reconciliation bill
[209]
but i don't really see a clear strategy
[212]
with the exception of progressives
[213]
standing in the way saying that they'd
[214]
block
[215]
the bipartisan bill unless there's a
[217]
clear path forward for reconciliation
[219]
what do you think so good news is we're
[221]
going to find out everything about
[222]
congress real soon
[224]
okay so i'll explain uh first i want to
[226]
say about ted cruz
[228]
um i'm really like anna's assault queen
[231]
right
[231]
but i've also gotten to a point where
[233]
i'm tired of covering the liars
[235]
so everything ted cruz says is a lie and
[238]
i don't want to engage with the
[239]
mainstream
[240]
media that uh says oh no that's
[243]
offensive
[243]
um you have to take his lies and take it
[246]
at face value and pretend that it has
[248]
50 chance of being true and has validity
[251]
it doesn't have any validity and he's a
[255]
showman and a terrible showman at that
[257]
he's such a poor great actor republican
[259]
voters can see it
[260]
from a mile away trump is a far more
[262]
sophisticated con man
[264]
so as ted cruz does these kind of
[267]
speeches
[268]
even the republicans don't buy it they
[270]
know he's a scam artist so
[272]
anyways uh now on to relevant things
[275]
um look there is one point that the
[277]
republicans are
[279]
a little bit right about so we're we do
[281]
an honest show so
[282]
it will cover no matter what
[285]
uh as it actually is so they're doing
[288]
two different infrastructure bills they
[290]
were both called infrastructure bills
[291]
now
[292]
the larger one is being called a budget
[293]
bill that's a
[295]
bit of optics that the democrats are
[296]
doing okay it's harmless optics but it
[299]
is optics
[300]
it's not it was infrastructure it is
[302]
still is infrastructure
[303]
and it has more of the green new deal in
[306]
the larger one
[307]
that's now being called the budget build
[308]
that part is true okay
[310]
and um and so why are they doing two
[313]
different bills
[314]
if the democrats can pass the larger one
[317]
without any republican votes
[319]
so that means instead of doing one
[321]
trillion and three and a half trillion
[323]
they just combine it if they have enough
[325]
votes and just pass it as four and a
[326]
half trillion
[328]
so the one trill there's two possible
[329]
explanations and neither one of them is
[331]
good
[332]
uh for the democrats now so the
[333]
republicans are right that
[335]
splitting it is weird right and some of
[337]
the ones that are opposed to it go
[339]
why the hell are they splitting it
[341]
they're gonna trick you guys and they're
[342]
gonna vote for the three and a half
[343]
trillion dollars but they're not
[344]
tricking you they're saying they're
[345]
gonna vote on the three and a half
[346]
trillion dollar one
[347]
okay it's actually a trick in the
[349]
reverse for on democratic voters
[351]
okay so i'll get to what's most likely
[354]
but second most likely
[355]
is they say um
[358]
well it's okay uh we help the
[360]
republicans with their
[362]
uh marketing by doing a bipartisan one
[365]
now it also helps joe biden's marketing
[367]
that's why he's presumably doing it
[369]
because he ran on being bipartisan
[371]
but the republicans will get to say we
[372]
did the infrastructure bill
[374]
we did infrastructure okay now the
[377]
reality is it lets them vote
[379]
against 75 percent of the funding for
[381]
infrastructure
[382]
but it still gives republicans credit
[384]
for doing infrastructure
[385]
so that's a giant marketing help to the
[388]
republican party
[389]
that's totally needless if they can pass
[391]
the larger one with only democratic
[393]
votes
[393]
that's inarguable anyone in the media
[395]
that tells you that's not an hour you
[397]
literally can't do math right so that's
[400]
the best case scenario where the
[401]
democrats as usual
[403]
help the republican party massively for
[405]
no reason
[406]
okay now the worst case scenario no the
[409]
most likely thing is the democrats never
[411]
meant it they're just as much corporate
[413]
stooges their leadership
[414]
is as the republicans are so they're
[417]
gonna actually do
[418]
lucy and and charlie brown and pulling
[419]
the football oh yeah progressives come
[421]
this way we're going to vote on three
[423]
and a half trillion dollars sure it's
[424]
going to happen
[425]
oh golly gee we couldn't get mansion or
[428]
cinema or any of the other rotating
[430]
villains
[431]
to say yes so we can only do the
[434]
bipartisan one
[435]
so everybody shut up and do unity and
[438]
we're all going to yell at you and say
[439]
you're the worst and it's all your fault
[441]
if at the very last second and they'll
[443]
always leave it to the last second
[444]
so it'll seem like an emergency right
[447]
the progressives didn't vote for it it's
[448]
their fault
[449]
so that is the most common game and so
[451]
what we're all going to find out
[452]
together
[453]
we don't know it yet you're all going to
[454]
find it out as we find out
[456]
if the democrats actually pass the three
[458]
and a half trillion dollar one from the
[460]
senate
[461]
and and and and then the house passes it
[463]
and it becomes law
[465]
holy cow we've actually moved congress
[469]
and progressives have made a difference
[472]
i would love to give the democratic
[474]
party credit for that i would
[475]
love it it would be literally the first
[478]
time
[479]
in in my lifetime in covering politics
[481]
for 25 years
[482]
i have never seen the democrats mean it
[484]
never not once
[486]
okay so if they mean it this time that
[489]
is a giant victory and you should give
[490]
credit where credit is due
[492]
now if it's like every other time and
[494]
they pull the football and they don't
[496]
give them the do the three and a half
[497]
trillion dollar deal
[499]
that is when you will hear mainstream
[500]
media do marketing for them propaganda
[503]
purest worse than anything on sputnik
[506]
or anything that you see uh like the
[509]
north korean television
[510]
they will tell you oh no we couldn't
[512]
have done the three and a half trillion
[513]
everybody always knew it was not gonna
[514]
be the three and a half trillion dollars
[515]
i can't believe progressives are
[517]
preventing the one billion dollar
[518]
infrastructure deal it's all the
[519]
progressive assault
[520]
they will all say it in unison uh and
[524]
and i'm and the other good news is i
[525]
don't care what the mainstream media
[526]
says anymore my job is to point out
[528]
their lies so
[528]
devil's advocate democrats now referring
[531]
to
[531]
the reconciliation infrastructure bill
[534]
as the budget bill
[536]
could be optics on behalf of the
[538]
democrats because
[539]
of course in order to pass a
[541]
reconciliation bill which would only
[542]
require a simple majority in the senate
[545]
you need to prove that it has an impact
[547]
on the federal budget
[549]
right so calling it a budget bill helps
[551]
with that cause um
[552]
some some red flags though that i wanted
[555]
to mention
[556]
is that you already have the
[557]
congressional budget office
[559]
uh studying the impact of the
[562]
reconciliation version of the
[563]
infrastructure bill
[564]
and pushing back a little bit in regard
[567]
to whether or not
[568]
it would qualify under the
[569]
reconciliation process
[571]
but i want to be clear about something
[573]
the whole thing about reconciliation
[575]
and the senate parliamentarian the biden
[578]
administration does not have to listen
[580]
to the senate parliamentarian
[581]
someone who is unelected someone who can
[584]
just easily be fired
[586]
and the administration and and the
[588]
democratic party can move forward with
[590]
the reconciliation bill and get it
[591]
passed with the simple majority the fact
[593]
that we're already hearing about like oh
[595]
well the cbo
[596]
is looking into this and we don't know
[598]
if
[599]
we don't know if this 3.5 trillion
[601]
dollar uh now
[602]
budget bill is going to qualify for the
[604]
reconciliation process
[606]
we'll see how it plays out but nancy
[608]
pelosi on multiple occasions
[610]
has said that she will not bring the
[612]
bipartisan
[613]
infrastructure bill for a vote on the
[615]
house floor until the senate passes
[618]
both of the bills meaning the
[619]
reconciliation bill and the bipartisan
[622]
bill
[622]
we'll see we'll see if she's actually
[624]
going to follow through on her
[625]
commitment there
[626]
but there's that commitment and then
[628]
there's also
[629]
progressive lawmakers in the house who
[631]
claim that they'll block the bill
[632]
you're right jenk there's going to be a
[634]
tremendous amount of pressure on them
[635]
to not block the bill to to play along
[639]
and to um you know do whatever the
[641]
corporate media and corporate donors
[643]
want them to do
[644]
there's going to be a lot of pressure
[645]
but this is the true test to see if
[647]
they're willing to go
[648]
through all of the disdain all the
[651]
hatred they're gonna get in the
[652]
corporate media to do the right thing
[653]
which is to block the bipartisan bill
[655]
unless it's abundantly clear
[656]
that they can pass the reconciliation
[658]
bill okay guys
[660]
everything is online and everything's
[661]
going to be decided so anna's absolutely
[663]
right calling it the budget bill is a
[664]
good thing because budgets must pass
[666]
right so that's an indication that
[668]
they're uh that they
[669]
actually want to pass it now in the past
[672]
i would have told you
[673]
there's no chance they're gonna pass
[674]
that three and a half trillion dollar
[675]
bill if the corporations are not in
[677]
favor of it we
[678]
live under 100 corporate rule it has no
[680]
i would have said zero percent chance
[682]
now i'm not telling you that now okay
[684]
i'm telling you that there is some
[685]
chance
[686]
they pass it why uh one bernie is saying
[689]
a thousand times over it's gonna pass
[692]
and that this was the fruits of all of
[695]
his laborers
[696]
in all the compromises now if bernie
[699]
gets fooled on that that is going to be
[702]
devastating for him okay and so
[705]
on the other hand if he passed the guys
[708]
people like me who were his critic on 15
[710]
minute wage etc we all have to turn
[711]
around and go holy cow he did it
[714]
like i've never seen it in my lifetime
[716]
where corporate democrats agree with
[717]
progressives rather than vice versa
[719]
okay and what anna said about nancy
[722]
pelosi is critical
[723]
i've never seen nancy pelosi draw the
[725]
line like that and say
[726]
i will pass progressive legislation and
[728]
if i don't you should judge me on it
[731]
i've never seen it so we're an
[733]
unprecedented unchartered territory
[735]
so it does have some chance of passing
[737]
but if it doesn't if it was all a trick
[739]
all along
[741]
and the progressives fold and nina
[743]
turner lost
[745]
then we're back to a dark place where
[747]
there's no hope
[748]
at all so the progressives cannot fault
[752]
if they fold it would be devastating it
[755]
would be devastating not just
[757]
for the future of their
[760]
you know political careers which i
[762]
honestly don't care that much about
[763]
it would be devastating literally for
[765]
the planet like
[766]
the reconciliation version of the
[768]
infrastructure bill is the one that
[770]
includes
[771]
climate action we need to address
[774]
climate change i mean we need to go even
[776]
further than what's in the
[777]
reconciliation bill
[778]
but the reconciliation bill is a good
[780]
start
[782]
and and if they don't fight for that
[785]
i i mean it's just gonna the future is
[787]
incredibly bleak by the way the
[789]
reconciliation bills i
[790]
as i said before includes everything
[792]
that we actually want so it's expansion
[794]
of
[794]
paid family and medical leave you've got
[797]
child care programs free community
[799]
college an extension
[801]
of increased uh infor affordable care
[804]
act uh subsidies
[805]
universal uh pre-k you again
[808]
like it's important to address how
[812]
expensive education is for people so
[814]
free community college is a good start
[815]
although i would like to see it go
[816]
further
[817]
but all of the human infrastructure
[818]
stuff is included there
[820]
the extension of the child tax credits
[824]
we need this we need to give americans
[826]
relief this is
[827]
finally a little bit of redistribution
[830]
of wealth
[830]
to the bottom instead of a
[831]
redistribution to the top as we're
[834]
likely to get with the bipartisan
[835]
version of the bill
[836]
look honestly if progressives block the
[838]
bipartisan bill because we're not going
[840]
to get the
[841]
reconciliation bill and we get nothing
[843]
on infrastructure at all
[844]
i would almost prefer that because the
[846]
bipartisan bill
[847]
is nothing but corporate handouts
[849]
there's some positive spending there uh
[851]
for
[851]
infrastructure improvements that we need
[853]
but we're privatizing public
[855]
infrastructure through
[856]
this um these are all the you know
[859]
physical infrastructure things that
[861]
corporate america wants because it
[862]
benefits them and their bottom line
[865]
so no we need the reconciliation version
[867]
of the bill that's the bill that has
[868]
everything that we need everything that
[870]
we want we should be hyper focused on
[871]
fighting for that
[872]
so last two things on that um so
[876]
uh one of the reasons why there's also a
[877]
little bit of hope is because the money
[879]
is moving people always follow the money
[882]
and so a large democratic donors
[885]
now are beginning to understand uh oh
[887]
the planet is burning
[888]
and we don't have a second planet and so
[891]
now this
[892]
actually endangers me helping the other
[895]
people who cares
[896]
but look i i might have billions but i
[899]
don't have enough money for this
[900]
by the way bad guys and good guys right
[902]
i know a good guy
[904]
who's very wealthy and is now literally
[907]
he's given up on uh politics and
[910]
and he's a scientist he he's seen the
[912]
numbers there's no question about it
[914]
he's now going to go and move uh and and
[918]
buy tons of real estate
[919]
as far north as he can and start
[921]
building bunkers that's
[922]
that's real okay and that's a good guy
[925]
who tried and tried and tried to fix it
[927]
and thinks nope it's broken we're not
[929]
going to be able to fix it in time
[930]
you got to start preparing for a worst
[932]
case scenario now if enough
[934]
donors thought that they might actually
[936]
be able to push the democratic party in
[937]
the right direction
[938]
that's why it's not hopeless but at the
[940]
end of the day what is the most likely
[942]
outcome
[944]
the most likely outcome is the same
[945]
outcome we've seen for
[947]
the last 40 years of corporate rule
[949]
which is
[950]
and this is an important part of this
[952]
guys they're gonna try to run out the
[953]
clock
[954]
while pretending there was nothing they
[956]
could do so when the three and a half
[958]
billion dollar version ever comes up in
[959]
the senate
[960]
that's what cinema will object and then
[962]
they'll go to the cbo
[963]
and then they will take tons and tons of
[965]
time negotiating back and forth
[968]
none of it is meant to actually do
[969]
negotiations it's just meant to run out
[971]
the clock
[972]
and then at the end they'll go oh my god
[973]
we're running out of time
[975]
so we got to pass the billion dollar the
[977]
trillion dollar version
[978]
the smaller version the bipartisan
[980]
version and then we'll come back to the
[982]
other one we promise we promise we'll
[983]
come back to the other one right
[985]
and that's the oldest trick in the book
[987]
so what you will see with your own eyes
[989]
as they start to run out the clock
[990]
and that's done on purpose thanks for
[992]
watching the young turks really
[993]
appreciate it
