dishwasher high loop - YouTube

Hey Guys! Matthew with Freedom Home Services here!
[4]
Hope you are doing well and surviving the the
[7]
nice cold weather we've been having lately!
[10]
I wanted to give you a little homeowner maintenance tip
[14]
and really it's just a way to eliminate one more inspection item
[18]
I've been finding these pretty frequently in the homes that I inspect.
[24]
So it's concerning a dishwasher "high loop."
[27]
And I'll kind of show you here.
[28]
I'm underneath my kitchen sink and you can see
[31]
that there is a dishwasher drain line
[33]
and that's a water supply line going over to my dishwasher
[35]
Now dishwashers actually come with, or should come with,
[39]
(you can't really check it once the dishwasher is installed)
[45]
There is a loop where the run the drain line on the side of the dishwasher.
[50]
So there's actually a loop there, bu
[53]
according to the manufacturer, you're supposed to have an additional high loop
[56]
or an air gap,
[57]
and those are pretty nasty - you don't want to install those.
[61]
They actually come up on top of your sink.
[64]
Which I don't even know why they would make such a thing.
[67]
But in any case, put a high loop in. That's the easiest.
[71]
You can see here I've already done a little bit of prep work.
[75]
One thing that you want to make sure that you have
[80]
is making sure your drain line is installed
[84]
on the house side of your P trap.
[87]
if you put your drain line back here...
[90]
you're gonna get sewer gases that are gonna
[92]
come out through your dishwasher
[94]
and you're gonna wanna know why every time you
[97]
open the dishwasher dishwasher door that it smells like sewage.
[102]
And that's no bueno.
[104]
So definitely put it on this side.
[106]
You can put it in any number of different configurations
[109]
You can hook them up directly to the garbage disposal
[113]
That's totally acceptable as well.
[115]
As long as it's on the house side of the P trap.
[119]
So that's where there drain line goes and
[123]
that would be the sewer side of the P trap.
[126]
The next thing you want to do is just get a zip tie
[130]
as I've done here already
[132]
I actually went a did a little bit extra to get this excess supply line out of the way
[137]
and zip tied it together.
[140]
The manufacturer wants you to have a high loop as high
[143]
as possible close to the bottom of the countertop
[145]
So fortunately some counters have some extra blocking
[149]
that has been left by the installer, which is fine.
[153]
Take an extra screw that you've got laying around the house,
[156]
screw it in, and pretty simple...
[159]
I'm gonna try to do this here
[161]
one- handed...
[166]
run this up...
[170]
and hang it...
[173]
off of the screw.
[177]
Sorry for the shaky video!
[182]
Of course, I'm not a small man LOL
[184]
and this is a small space.
[186]
So here we go!
[188]
So you've got that there
[191]
kind of blurry the way you can see it now,
[195]
zoom back out here. So now you see
[197]
So now you've got this diswasher line that
[201]
is zip tied up. You've got a nice little high loop there.
[205]
It could probably be a little bit higher, but
[207]
then I'd be putting a lot of tension on the way that this drain line goes in.
[211]
It was installed before I moved in here.
[214]
In any case, very simple to do.
[217]
And it will take off one item from
[221]
your inspection report...at least if I inspect your house.
[225]
And so that's always a good thing.
[227]
So I hope that helped! And stay tuned for more videos!
