Steve Forbes: Biden setting stage for 'unnaturally high' oil prices - YouTube

Channel: Fox Business

[0]
so inflation numbers came out this
[1]
morning with moderate increases about
[3]
what was expected but there was one
[5]
figure
[6]
that should worry everyone a big six
[8]
percent jump in overall energy costs for
[11]
the month of february
[12]
and gasoline prices made up 40 percent
[15]
of the increase in overall prices so
[17]
is it just a coincidence that the spike
[19]
in energy prices comes with a new
[21]
administration's reversal of trump's
[24]
america first
[25]
energy plan let's bring in steve forbes
[28]
forbes
[28]
media chairman you know it seems there
[30]
is such a knee-jerk reaction on the part
[32]
of this administration to just overturn
[34]
everything the previous administration
[36]
did even if it was effective steve
[39]
uh that's right you particularly see it
[41]
on fossil fuels they call them
[43]
particularly oil and natural gas we did
[46]
become not only energy independent but
[48]
we had massive production capabilities
[50]
and we could do even more especially
[52]
exporting natural gas to places like
[54]
europe which are still very heavily
[55]
dependent on russia
[57]
and instead they're now moving to
[59]
restrict
[60]
and ban uh the the drilling of oil and
[63]
natural gas on federal lands
[65]
and offshore and put on a lot of
[67]
regulations you've already seen what
[69]
they've done on pipelines
[70]
to make sure even if you get the gas or
[72]
oil you can't transport it which is a
[74]
danger
[75]
and so the alternative energies
[77]
windmills do not run automobiles
[79]
uh solar is very nice but sometimes the
[81]
sun doesn't rise up
[83]
and they use huge amount of resources to
[85]
build those solar fields
[86]
and they are hugely expensive so in
[89]
terms of
[90]
what the administration is doing it is
[92]
setting the stage for unnaturally high
[94]
prices
[95]
and david with all those spending bills
[97]
they have coming we're going to get a
[99]
bout of inflation yeah
[101]
inflation's going to mean well we've
[102]
already seen it before gas prices
[104]
absolutely absolutely but you know you
[106]
mentioned you also mentioned
[107]
the dependency of the europeans on
[109]
russian oil because we won't be able to
[111]
get our natural gas in there
[112]
lng but we may become dependent on the
[116]
russians and
[117]
become dependent again on the oil sheiks
[120]
who as we know
[121]
have treated us very badly in the past
[123]
when we are dependent on them
[126]
well there used to be a joke that god
[129]
gave
[129]
countries a lot of oil and gas but he
[131]
put him in with the most unstable
[133]
unfriendly governments in the world
[135]
and he's that's one reason why it was so
[137]
important where the fracking revolution
[139]
did
[139]
enabled us in a cost-effective way to
[142]
find gas and oil in ways that experts
[144]
that were not possible before
[146]
in a cost effective way huge advance
[148]
technologically
[149]
so uh yes we're going to have a
[151]
geopolitical change
[153]
with governments like wonderful iran
[155]
being in the driver's seat again
[157]
why would we want to go back to that
[159]
yeah and by the way uh
[160]
one thing that we may see again in in
[162]
terms of of
[164]
repeats of what's happened before when
[165]
we've done this not only five dollar
[167]
gas but also blackouts i mean this new
[170]
infrastructure plan that they're going
[172]
to be laying out we've only seen little
[173]
tidbits of it but it's clear they're
[175]
going to focus on their green energy
[176]
plans
[177]
they want to completely rejigger our
[179]
electrical grids and as you mentioned
[182]
if you try to do that with renewables
[184]
with solar and windmills
[186]
you're in big trouble we're we're going
[187]
to see a repeat of what happened in
[189]
texas
[190]
all over the country right and then
[192]
california and another thing david
[194]
that's coming along is with this
[195]
infrastructure bill is they're going to
[197]
want a big increase in the gasoline tax
[200]
uh so that's going to unnaturally raise
[201]
the price of fuel
[203]
watch out well people are just getting
[205]
started it just shows you that
[207]
there's more to these executive orders
[209]
on pipelines and
[211]
and uh stopping drilling uh than the
[213]
green energy they've got a bigger
[215]
agenda than that and we put together
[217]
just a little montage of
[219]
president biden and vice president
[220]
harris talking about this roll tape
[223]
we have an incredible opportunity to not
[226]
just dig out of this crisis but to
[228]
fundamentally transform the country
[230]
you ushered in a new day
[233]
for america to change georgia
[236]
to change america again a fundamental
[239]
change in america what do you think
[241]
steve
[243]
well it's going to be fundamentally
[244]
going backwards you know windmills uh
[247]
kill birds but they also are 15th
[249]
century technology or
[250]
16th century 500 years old hello
[253]
fracking
[254]
is a modern technology and so why would
[256]
we want to go back to stuff that doesn't
[258]
work
[258]
and so well we're just gratuitously
[260]
hurting ourselves
[261]
and the change yeah going backwards
[264]
that's a change but not the kind we
[266]
really want
[267]
steve forbes good to see you steve thank
[269]
you very much for coming in appreciate
[270]
it thank you david
