How to use Finviz to Screen Stocks - YouTube
Channel: bloom
[2]
best screeners out there FINVIZ. now
let's just jump into it as soon as you
[9]
get on Finviz this is what you're going
to see their main page now we're only
[14]
going to be looking at their screener
today because honestly this is the best
[18]
tool they have and this is what most
traders and most people use their site
[23]
for now there's a bunch of other stuff
like seeing what the index have done
[28]
today looking at the heat map knowing
what the industry's been doing top
[33]
gainers top losers some technical
analysis tools I might make another
[39]
video soon about those but today we're
going to be covering the screener now
[44]
what is a screener? A screener is
basically a tool that you can use to
[50]
subset the markets and find stocks that
fit criteria that you're looking for so
[56]
whenever you're running a strategy
you're not running a strategy on all the
[61]
markets there's too many stocks you're
going to find stocks that have a
[66]
predefined set of criterias that work
well for your strategy and that's why
[72]
you need to screen for them now this is
how you're going to use Finviz with the
[76]
screener and Finviz screener is very
comprehensive and it's actually free to
[81]
use and that's why a lot of people use
it now let's say you're doing a
[86]
fundamental strategy and you're a value
investor okay and you want to look and I
[91]
might give two examples one for a
fundamental and veteran let's say one
[94]
who wants to trade momentum stocks
growth stocks so if you're your
[98]
fundamental value investor and you want
to look for some value stocks to invest
[102]
in you might want to say okay well I
want stocks that have a low p/e now you
[111]
look at this there's 7,000 stocks that
you have right now if I want to start to
[117]
narrow down this list and have fewer
stocks I get it I got to tell Finviz
[123]
what are the criteria is I'm looking for
if I go here on fundamentals I can tell
[128]
Finviz look I want stocks that have a
low p/e a low price to earnings because
[134]
I know that low price-earning Stocks are
value companies I'm getting them for
[138]
cheap right so I can select low and then
I went from 7,000 symbols all the way
[143]
down to 830 symbols now I might look I
might want to say look I want some I
[151]
want to talk that gives high dividends
because companies that give high
[156]
dividends are stable and good companies
so I can go in descriptive and in
[162]
dividends yields here I could say I want
high-yield now I'm down 273 companies I
[169]
might also have a criteria since I'm a
value and conservative investor I want
[176]
something that does enough volume I don't want something too
[179]
illiquid where I'm not going to be able
to get out of my position when I need to
[184]
so maybe I'm going to say I want
something that does over two hundred
[187]
thousand shares a day then I might also
have that now I'm down to sixty symbols
[195]
okay we got a company in Spain Mexico
might care I just want to look at US
[200]
companies I'll be down to 48 symbols
then I might say okay well look I want
[207]
something that's in the financial sector
because maybe my portfolio doesn't have
[211]
enough of those so you can just select
financials and then I'm down to 38
[216]
companies then I can look at those
companies and see which one would be
[220]
best for me as a value investor right
and you have sometimes have super low
[224]
P Es and they look pretty good right
so what are what informations I want to
[230]
see from them you actually have
different informations you can go under
[235]
the valuation tab and see valuation
information like PE forward p/e and you
[242]
can see they're earning or you're either
EPS if you want to look at financial
[247]
information you click on the financials
tab you'll see their dividends or ROI
[252]
debt-to-equity ratios a bunch of other
ratios that will be important to you you
[258]
can actually go under order
and see what's the float on them
[263]
what's the insider ownership
institutional ownership short floats so
[267]
it's really up to you of what you want
to look at if you want to look even at
[271]
charts you can see their charts and
it'll give you a quick look maybe you
[278]
want something in an uptrend so it's
very helpful and if you want to get more
[282]
information you can actually click on
custom and this you'd have to be an
[286]
elite member being elite is maybe 30 or
40 dollars a month and the benefits you
[294]
get from being elite is for one you can
add custom information and you can
[300]
export this data to excel otherwise you
just get a view it on the website
[304]
there's a bunch of other things that are
offered in the lead but you know these
[309]
are the two ones affected by the
screener now you might want to click
[316]
custom and then click on settings and
tell Finviz what you want do you want to get
[323]
return on equities you want to
get return on assets you want to see the
[326]
net profit margin and if you're you are
an elite subscriber you can actually
[330]
export it to a CSV file it'll just
download and then you can use that
[335]
information to make your analysis
comparative analysis or whatnot now if
[341]
you're not a value investor and you're
actually a creator like us let me take
[348]
this off and you just want to do maybe a
momentum strategy and you're looking for
[354]
growth stocks that fit a certain
criteria you can use Finviz as well for
[360]
that and it's actually pretty helpful
let's take this off here financials so
[369]
if you're looking for a growth stock
well we know that for growth stocks we
[374]
need something that has a high p/e so
let's go to fundamentals PE let's put it
[380]
over 40 so something that that's
expensive then we might say well a
[388]
growth stock doesn't give any dividends
right
[392]
because they're just reinvesting in
themselves I will no dividends okay
[396]
right now I'm looking at 380 symbols out
of the seven seven thousand I might say
[405]
okay well look I'm looking at a certain
sector I only want to look at health
[408]
care and the reason for that is I know
health care is very volatile and I want
[414]
something volatile that can just explode
then I might say I also want to buy
[419]
something as it's breaking up I don't
want to buy it at any time so maybe I
[425]
want to buy something when it breaks its
52-week high so when it's at its highest
[430]
so I can go and consider the technical
tab which has a lot of things that you
[438]
can use for from a technical point of
view so the 52-week high would be one
[443]
take you to week high I can select okay
I want something that's as its new high
[448]
and now I'm down to only six stocks so I
can be looking at these talks and let's
[454]
take a look at this one for example
all of them are added their 52-week
[458]
highs and then my strategy can be around
those so I can those can be on my watch
[465]
list and if they're breaking up tomorrow
and they're continuing this momentum I
[469]
can buy it but then if they break down I
can just have a site stop-loss on and
[475]
take out a stop loss and that way so
this is really how you can use Finviz to
[479]
screen based on a strategy that you have
so I really highly recommend using them
[485]
you don't need to be an elite member
their free version is more than enough
[489]
as you can hear I didn't need to export
in an excel or anything something that's
[495]
really nice about them is that they
actually have alerts so you can create
[499]
an alert but for that you would need to
be an elite subscriber and that alert
[504]
would permit you to get alerts via email
for when a stock fills a certain
[511]
criteria so I might say well one stock
gets to the 52-week high let me know
[515]
right away
so I'll get an email and I can buy it
[519]
right away
as it's breaking new highs so you can
[523]
use it for that as well I've
I have guys who use it and they like it
[528]
you know but otherwise just the screener
if you have any strategy that you want
[534]
to that you want to run you cannot run
it on the whole market
[538]
you've got to subset the market the
whole universe is too big
[542]
subset the universe to a specific set of
symbols that fit the criteria that work
[548]
best for your strategy and Finviz is
going to be one of the best tools for
[552]
you to do that if you guys have any more
questions regarding fenves or regarding
[557]
any other tools post it down in the
comment I'm more definitely going to
[561]
make another video where I show you how
to do some more in-depth screening using
