$570 Bangkok Condo Tour (+ What is a Smart Visa in Thailand?) - YouTube

Channel: Retired Working For You

[0]
in today's video we're gonna go meet a
[1]
government official to tell us all about
[3]
the smart visa program here in thailand
[6]
on top of that i'm gonna tour you
[8]
through this condo right here in bangkok
[10]
that costs
[17]
hello out there world my name's chris
[18]
i'm retired working for you and i'm a
[20]
little bit dressed up today
[22]
because we're going to meet a government
[24]
official who's going to tell us
[25]
all about this whole smart visa program
[29]
a lot of people are talking about it
[31]
they're talking about changing it
[32]
they're really talking about trying to
[34]
attract even more digital nomads here
[37]
so by the end of the video we're going
[38]
to have learned a bunch about that
[40]
before that though i thought i should
[43]
take
[44]
you in here and tour you through a
[46]
digital nomad pad
[48]
but first of all let's just see some
[52]
street sewing going on here
[56]
she's doing a lovely job
[60]
all right this place is actually pretty
[61]
nice quite a bright
[63]
studio apartment so the key stats this
[66]
place
[66]
is i think 33 square meters
[70]
so that's about 330 square feet
[73]
you can even slide this sliding door
[76]
to get a little separation from what
[78]
would be your living room
[79]
and what would be your bedroom
[83]
this unit's in the hide sukumvit 11
[85]
which is right in the heart of the
[87]
trendy soi 11
[88]
area it's a bright unit
[92]
it's got really nice closet space a
[94]
decent view
[96]
the bathroom is super modern
[100]
the kitchen comes with nice appliances
[102]
including a built-in washing machine
[105]
everything in nomad would need it's in a
[108]
great building that offers to
[110]
service down to the local skytrain
[112]
station but the highlight
[114]
is up on the 38th floor say hello dear
[117]
hello this is kundir she's a little bit
[120]
shy but uh she's doing a great job
[124]
showing us around and she got us
[126]
out to the pool look at this isn't it
[128]
glorious this is one of those bangkok
[131]
pools
[132]
that's just so phenomenal uh because
[136]
it's floating up here on the 38th floor
[138]
the view is just super spectacular
[142]
this is what you would get to enjoy i
[144]
guess if you're a digital nomad
[146]
you might pull up a chair here pull up a
[149]
laptop maybe
[151]
and just uh do some of your computer
[153]
work here with that view over bangkok
[157]
tough to beat really perched above the
[159]
pool is an
[160]
ultra modern gym with an expansive view
[163]
across
[163]
bangkok all of the facilities in this
[166]
building are top-notch
[167]
i bet you're wondering how much this all
[169]
costs thanks for showing me dear
[171]
i before i tell them the price though
[173]
i'm gonna take them somewhere else
[176]
take care all right so that was the hide
[179]
we're gonna get back
[180]
in there and i'll tell you the price but
[182]
first
[183]
i'm on my way to learn more
[186]
about this whole smart visa program
[190]
and that means you're going to learn a
[192]
lot more about this smart visa program
[195]
and to do that i've got an interview
[197]
that's why i'm all dressed up like this
[199]
i'm sweating on fancy clothes
[201]
now it's because i got an interview with
[204]
the government official
[206]
who i think might oversee this whole
[208]
smart visa program so we'll get to the
[210]
bottom of this
[211]
let's jump in a cab and head over there
[213]
now and then we'll come back and tell
[215]
you how much that place costs
[217]
so we made it here to samyang meter town
[219]
this tunnel's one of my favorite little
[221]
tunnels in bangkok just downstairs from
[224]
the tim hortons
[225]
and just upstairs i think on the 18th
[228]
floor
[228]
is the person that we're here to meet
[232]
we're with can you introduce yourself oh
[234]
sure um
[236]
for the car my name is controlled lavree
[239]
i'm an investment promotion officer at
[241]
the office of the board of investment
[243]
which is a principal agency responsible
[246]
for investment promotion in thailand
[248]
but three years ago i have been tasked
[250]
with running this
[251]
smart visa program here at the one start
[255]
one stop investment service center
[257]
in the downtown bangkok country square
[260]
oh wow
[260]
well that's incredible so we're with the
[262]
right person can you
[264]
tell me and my viewers just what's the
[267]
overall mission and goal of the smart
[269]
visa program
[270]
sure to achieve thailand's economic
[274]
agenda
[274]
and at the same time to make through
[278]
from being a middle-income trap country
[281]
the thai government reckon that speedy
[284]
development of targeted industry is the
[286]
way to go
[287]
and key elements to
[291]
its success lies in human capitals
[294]
but if you rely solely on a domestic
[298]
workforce
[299]
uh it would not be enough if you want to
[301]
achieve that vision
[302]
in a timely manner wouldn't go fast
[304]
enough yeah sure
[306]
so that's where smart visa program comes
[310]
in
[311]
basically this program is intended to
[314]
work as a tool to attract foreign
[317]
talents
[317]
and the technology and skills and
[319]
know-hows that will
[321]
that they will bring with them what are
[323]
the general and major
[324]
qualifications how does someone qualify
[327]
for one of these smart visas
[328]
oh that's a long story do you have time
[332]
okay i can save us a little bit of time
[334]
here and run through this really quick
[336]
i'm on the smart visa website i'll leave
[339]
a link in the video description but
[341]
basically there's four types of visas
[343]
there's the smart
[344]
t for talent this is targeting highly
[347]
skilled professionals
[348]
in targeted industries such as science
[351]
and technology
[352]
they're looking for salaries of over a
[354]
hundred thousand
[355]
bought a month and one-year employment
[358]
contracts
[359]
and being employed in companies in those
[361]
targeted
[362]
industries next up is the smart eye the
[365]
investor
[366]
visa and this is technology-based
[368]
businesses
[369]
in the targeted industries with a
[371]
minimum direct investment of 20 million
[373]
bought so this isn't just for the
[376]
fly-by-night
[377]
startups it's investing in companies
[379]
using technology in manufacturing
[382]
or delivering services and being in the
[385]
targeted industries
[386]
next up smart e for executive
[390]
this is senior executives in
[392]
technology-based companies
[394]
must have a bachelor's degree in 10
[396]
years of work experience
[397]
salaries of over 200 000 bottom months
[400]
so
[401]
some high rollers now employment
[403]
contracts
[404]
this is designed to attract high level
[406]
executives
[407]
again in technology or manufacturing and
[410]
finally the smart
[411]
s or the startup visa is
[415]
technology-based startup entrepreneurs
[418]
so
[418]
they need to deposit at least 600
[421]
thousand bought
[422]
which has been held in a bank account
[424]
for at least three months
[426]
uh they need health insurance
[428]
participating in an endorsed incubation
[431]
what is this accelerator program or
[434]
similar program
[435]
the tech heads out there probably know
[437]
what this all means
[438]
and you must set up a company with the
[440]
targeted industries so as you can see
[442]
this isn't just your typical
[444]
digital nomad this program currently
[447]
exists
[447]
for these four categories and if you
[450]
want to learn more about any of these
[452]
i have left a link but i'm curious
[455]
let's ask which is the most popular out
[458]
of all of these
[458]
the most popular type so far is the
[462]
smart s for startups uh it accounts for
[465]
around more than half of all indoors
[469]
apps and
[469]
um the overall apps that we receive in
[472]
the last three years
[474]
how many people are are getting these
[476]
smart visas
[478]
in a typical year right we have
[481]
we have granted endorsement to uh
[484]
741 applications and
[488]
out of 1165
[491]
apps received during the last three
[493]
years
[494]
but i have to point out that this figure
[497]
is a mix between uh you know new
[500]
applications
[501]
and extension apps so uh the real
[504]
number of you know people that have
[508]
smart visa at the moment stands around
[510]
nearly 600 people
[512]
there's a lot of talk these days about
[515]
digital nomads and the future of the
[518]
smart visa program
[519]
is there going to be changes coming to
[522]
try and attract
[523]
more digital nomads to thailand yes you
[525]
got it right
[526]
that there's an update on its way
[530]
but unfortunately i myself not directly
[534]
involved yeah in this initiative let me
[536]
put it this way
[537]
i think uh whatever change uh being
[540]
cooked up at the moment
[541]
will definitely for sure result in
[544]
uh you know some sort of an opening up
[547]
of
[548]
once a short door in some aspect for
[550]
sure
[551]
because you know like you cannot reverse
[554]
or you cannot
[556]
even deny what is already a global major
[559]
trend
[560]
you know where uh it has been made just
[562]
clearer by the
[564]
arrival of you know this new normal and
[566]
the advancement of technology yeah
[569]
remote works more popular now than it's
[571]
ever been
[572]
the question here is not whether
[575]
uh we'll do it or not but
[578]
how and how soon the government can make
[581]
it happen
[582]
you know to finally take advantage of
[584]
thailand has uh
[585]
been enjoying you know as is our
[588]
blessing
[589]
uh for decades you know like um as a
[591]
best destination for digital nomads
[594]
yeah yeah yeah i mean there's lots in
[596]
chiang mai
[597]
there's lots in kopangan in the south
[599]
there's lots in bangkok and phuket
[602]
and uh yeah it's just it's it's almost
[604]
the perfect place for a digital nomad
[606]
because
[607]
the weather's great it's still a
[609]
relatively inexpensive country to live
[612]
so the benefits are there from from the
[614]
from that side of things
[616]
if there's someone out there watching
[618]
this video
[619]
right now who is a digital nomad
[623]
somebody who might have an e-commerce
[626]
business
[626]
someone who maybe is a writer or a
[629]
graphic designer somebody who just needs
[632]
a laptop and a phone to earn uh
[635]
their income would the smart visa
[638]
be something that they should come and
[641]
inquire about
[643]
right um okay with um a type of persons
[647]
that just only work on his or her
[650]
computer
[652]
right as a freelancer or as a nomad
[656]
i'm sorry to say that not possible at
[658]
the moment
[659]
but with the new version of smart visa
[663]
or whatever visa that we're talking
[665]
about
[665]
uh that is coming up you know in a
[668]
matter of months not yet
[669]
so hang on tight yeah i think it's very
[672]
possible
[673]
okay but on a personal level
[677]
um i think you know we have to make this
[681]
as inclusive and as flexible as possible
[684]
because
[684]
at the end of the day the ultimate goals
[686]
of you know this
[687]
sort of program is to um maximum
[690]
uh to to maximize the benefit to the
[693]
country yeah that's fantastic i i really
[695]
appreciate all the time that you've
[697]
given me today
[698]
it's amazing to be able to come in and
[700]
talk to you
[702]
and hear exactly what's going on from
[704]
someone in your position so i really
[706]
really appreciate it thanks a lot
[708]
my great pleasure thank you chris well
[710]
that was interesting we learned a lot
[712]
about the smart visa program
[713]
and i'm going to keep digging into this
[715]
one because i find it very
[717]
interesting so subscribe to the channel
[719]
and i'll be sure to keep you up to date
[721]
now
[722]
how much is this studio apartment
[725]
renting for
[726]
isn't that the big question well
[729]
before i get to that just to recap it's
[731]
a it's a studio unit
[733]
it's got this little door you can
[735]
separate but
[736]
you open it up and it's all open concept
[739]
they're looking for a one-year lease
[740]
and you can get this place for 18
[744]
000 baht a month and if you want to rent
[748]
it
[748]
i'm gonna leave contact info for kundir
[751]
she's over there she's a little bit shy
[753]
she doesn't wanna
[754]
she doesn't wanna come on camera that's
[756]
okay though you can actually contact her
[758]
directly
[759]
if you're interested in renting this
[760]
unit and i'm curious
[762]
do you think this would be a good spot
[763]
for a digital nomad to hang their hat
[766]
and more importantly do you think that
[768]
thailand
[769]
is going to succeed and attract more
[772]
digital nomads as things start to move
[774]
into this new world of remote work
[776]
drop a comment below and let me know and
[779]
i'm curious to hear what you think
[781]
anyways hope you enjoyed the video i'll
[783]
see you guys soon
