[3]
Hi, everyone!
This is Andrew here.
[6]
Thanks for checking in and looking at
what I'm doing, recording and sharing over here.
[13]
Let me introduce myself first.
[17]
A businessman, a writer and I am a family man so I have three children.
[25]
I published four books
and this is my fifth one that I'm writing right now.
[32]
So I'm going to do a closing or subway mid review of the four books that I have done.
[41]
And also to share with you the updates as well as more importantly
[45]
to thank people who have came forward and supported.
[49]
Thanks so much! There are insurance companies CEO
[56]
there are very busy businessmen
there are also lawyers
[63]
Famous doctors, many friends came and wrote very good
[70]
and very nice recommendation for me
[73]
and endorse the book and more importantly actually
[77]
they helped me on my writing journey.
Thank you so much for doing this.
[81]
Thank you!
[87]
Actually to be honest I think I have
[90]
been in financial planning for 20 years
and realized that many people do not
[94]
take care of their estate planning
or do not have the knowledge or know how
[98]
on how to go about doing it properly so i decided
[102]
to write a simple book for people to
[105]
have a quick understanding
of the importance of estate planning and
[108]
also know how to go about doing it and it is important, especially for Chinese readers to have
[115]
access to these books so that's why i actually went on to
[118]
translate my English books to Chinese
[123]
so that all together are four books two
English one and two Chinese one
[127]
I realized actually in Singapore a lot of us
[130]
actually tend to write and publish only English book and there are
[135]
no such thing for a Chinese reader at least not enough
[140]
and so I decided estate planning is something that
[143]
will really benefit people because these are the people that really know want to know how to go about
[150]
doing that and another problem that I saw was that a lot of advisors and lawyers they are
[156]
very good in using English and when they come to
[159]
explaining and covering the clients on
[164]
Chinese or speaking client on the resources are not there.
[169]
The assistance is not there so I hope this
book can actually help them.
[176]
How does the event and my book sales benefit my readers actually you know when I think about it and then
[186]
receive a lot of feedbacks from people who
[188]
have came forward and then I think the readers get the
[192]
clearer picture of the importance of
having their estate plan being
[195]
organized and done with and they also
get given an
[198]
avenue to approach us to consult and take actions.
I'm bilingual so that is also one of the
[204]
thing and more important I'm caregiver and also
[207]
I'm a layman and not legally trained so in a way maybe I can
[211]
understand I'm on their side to understand what is
[214]
necessary and what is the important thing
[218]
and most of my readers actually have gone to have their estate planned
[223]
organized by doing up their Wills and their
advanced medical directive AMD
[228]
their lasting power attorney LPA and
also organize their asset inventory to
[232]
make sure that their loved one know where the money is
[236]
what and where's the title and what's the
[238]
insurance, which bank whatever that kind of thing
[242]
to make sure that there is actually very
good records
[244]
for easy reference in case there's an
unfortunate event or their demise
[248]
if they pass away and I also help them
with this
[251]
and also do up a care plan and letter of wishes that i just checked just now so many of
[258]
them have this at the back of their mind and
[260]
actually they wanted to have this done
[262]
but they actually do not have the time and resources to implement
[266]
so I actually created the books and I created events I created all these
[270]
and to actually make sure first of all
they have understanding
[274]
and because I actually have some time
[277]
to actually help them actually even
provide a
[281]
sponsored because that will actually help
[284]
make an easier relations sponsorship to
actually help them to start doing
[288]
something so a lot of time I will give them
[291]
reminder to actually ask them to take actions
[294]
otherwise they might have to come for
my seminar again and again
[298]
if they're not taking actions so
I'm really happy to see
[302]
them feeling more at ease after settling this part
[305]
of very important part life priority and if you think about it, why a lot of us are working hard.
[312]
Most likely we are working because of our loved ones and we are also worried about that if
[317]
anything happen to us, what's going to
happen to our loved one
[320]
so why don't you plan it ahead and get
it started and done with
[325]
and i thought this is something more important especially to the caregivers
[329]
since I'm a caregiver myself so as you can see the books and the event help
[333]
hand-in-hand to make an impact on these people and I think they have benefited much from it
[339]
so in all we have helped more than a few hundred people to get their estate plan organized
[350]
I cannot emphasize actually enough on the importance
[354]
of estate planning there are many stories but let me share one of which
[358]
is the most unforgettable for me so I actually
[363]
posted this on my social media before.
[369]
I have this friend and a lot of people will talk behind her saying that she is very stingy
[376]
but I think that she's very frugal and thrifty in her lifestyle
[383]
a lot of time we make past judgement
comment without knowing what is
[388]
behind the scene right so this girl she
have an old age parent and at the time
[394]
when she passed away that point time the
father was 90 years old
[398]
so she didn't have a high education like some of the Singaporeans here and
[403]
it's known that the payroll salary would be quite low so if she want to make sure the parent is taken care of
[412]
and she have to also take care of her expenditure
[417]
so having a low salary then, she had to be frugal and thrifty. Every single cents counts and
[423]
so when I met this lady, she's very special, she won't take advantage of anyone. I met her so many times, I think
[435]
10 to 20 times and she have never asked me for any tea or coffee
[442]
so even though there's once I actually
wanted to buy her a tea,
[445]
she was very firm and rejected my offer
[449]
so I really don't see that in many people.
Sometimes I also take confrontation ask for coffee from my client
[457]
myself so you see and there's one time I told her "hey I bought this bird-nest and then why not give your father".
[464]
She actually outright rejected me. She was very firm.
[468]
The lifestyle that she have, she don't spend money when she travel out to work
[474]
she only have two slices of bread for her lunch
[478]
and she saved all the money because she wanted support her parents
[482]
and her own lifestyle.
Wow, I was very impressed.
[486]
This is really something very highly respectable.
More than 10 years ago, I actually helped her to do a will
[494]
without any charges.
She was the first one that actually I wrote the will.
[500]
there were two incidents
[503]
another one is actually the daughters, both the daughters they were
[509]
complaining that their medisave are running out because of the medial fee
[515]
of her mom is so expensive that all the
[517]
medisave are wiped off and they are
[521]
really very cash tight so i actually went on to
[525]
study on how to write a will and I found a course under NUS under professor Catherine Tay and I learned how to
[534]
write you, so I immediately produced one will for this client and
[538]
another one so both of them sadly the other one
[542]
the mother also passed away a few years
ago
[546]
so amazing right? The first two that I wrote for, they all passed away. Anyway coming back so the one that I
[556]
actually I started writing for her right, the family actually came
[558]
forward and came to me and tell me that they want to thank me
[562]
because for helping her to wrote her will and so what's the big deal about that
[566]
actually what happened was that this lady,
[569]
she was putting a lot of effort to help her father to recover from cancer
[574]
and she spent a few hundred thousand dollars to treat her father as there are no
[578]
insurance so it was actual cash after that she has a depressions and then she committed suicide
[585]
which actually became a police
investigation but surprisingly they
[589]
found her will and they were like "at least
[591]
there's a will that was written many
years ago"
[594]
so it actually really helped to organize
and tidy up the
[598]
money aspect despite there's an investigation ongoing
[602]
so they thought why not I give you this money since you are writing a book
[607]
and they actually want me to give away the
[611]
200 copies of books to my clients because they also want my clients to
[616]
actually start doing it because everyone know
[620]
that they have a duty in a way that they actually didn't
[622]
get their will or estate plan done so this
[626]
this course is a very nice cause from this family i thought i want to share with you and
[633]
hopefully that will actually help people to get awareness
[637]
okay and now i'm decided to actually add in three more so everyone
[643]
have a volume of the book and also as much as possible to
[647]
actually spend a few minutes with everyone that I met up to let them know
[652]
it is important, it is time to do something about the estate plan
[659]
Actually, all the books sales proceed have been donated so in a way it actually benefits
[665]
some of the Singaporean when I started
doing this like writing a book or
[670]
publishing it, I didn't have the intention to
[673]
make it a money-making machine or money-making idea
[677]
so I wanted to help people
[683]
so this book is already out to help people with
[687]
estate plan and also to give it to the people in need
[691]
especially the caregivers.
The beneficiaries of the book sales are
[696]
caregivers alliance limited.
[698]
The caregivers that are actually trained and
take care of the caregivers
[703]
who have children or loved ones with
mental health conditions
[707]
my son study in St Andrew Autism School so I am also donated to St Andrew Autism Centre.
[713]
HCA Hospice Care I think is the right platform because they take care of people who are in the last
[720]
journey of their life in the hospice so HCA Hospice
[724]
I also have donated a few thousand dollars.
Additionally, I have created a mobile app
[729]
for the estate planning that I shared just now, for any user to track
[733]
to make sure that money is being monitored and tracked so that no one
[736]
can actually argue or judge or comment or run down
[741]
the loved one because money went missing or is not accounted for
[745]
so I hope with all this effort and that what I'm doing
[751]
the people are getting more benefits and I really want to thank people who
[756]
have supported me, whatever you are supported.
[759]
This book has gone to an extent that I didn't actually imagine
[765]
or expect that it has I'm sure it has impacted people and so for people who have supported,
[772]
thank you very much and for people who have benefited,
[775]
do share with people you know of let them know about this benefit
[779]
don't keep my book as a secret, please help to share with people that
[785]
you know of.
And I hope everyone have a peace of mind
[790]
love your loved one and take good care of yourself,
[794]
self-care is very important!
Take care. Bye! See you soon!
