[12]

[61]
please know up front i'm not a financial
[63]
advisor and while my videos are meant to
[65]
be informative
[66]
they should not be seen as a
[67]
recommendation for you to take any
[68]
action on the companies covered
[70]
you should always do your own research
[72]
or consult with your own financial
[73]
advisor when making any investment
[75]
decisions
[76]
so let's talk unity software the
[78]
california-based company was actually
[80]
founded in denmark as over-the-edge
[82]
entertainment in 2004.
[84]
in may of 2009 the company reorganizes
[87]
the delaware corporation as unity
[88]
software inc
[90]
the company itself is a leading software
[91]
platform for creating and monetizing
[93]
video games
[94]
their platform provides a comprehensive
[96]
set of software solutions to create
[98]
run and monetize interactive real-time
[100]
2d and 3d content
[102]
for mobile phones tablets pcs consoles
[105]
and augmented and virtual reality
[106]
devices
[108]
according to their prospectus content
[110]
built on the unity platform offers end
[112]
users a fundamentally more engaging and
[113]
immersive experience
[115]
than traditional static content content
[117]
made with unity is interactive
[119]
allowing end users to connect with the
[120]
content and with other users
[122]
it is also real time allowing it to
[124]
instantly adapt to end user behavior and
[126]
feedback its content allows graphics to
[129]
be expressed with three-dimensional
[130]
shape and depth
[131]
permitting multiple viewing angles and
[133]
enabling augmented and virtual reality
[135]
their platform consists of two distinct
[137]
but connected sets of solutions
[139]
the first one is a suite named create
[141]
solutions which is offered by monthly
[143]
subscriptions
[143]
and is used by content creators such as
[145]
developers artists designers engineers
[148]
and architects
[149]
to create interactive real-time 2d and
[151]
3d content
[152]
the second solution set is named operate
[154]
solutions and it offers customers the
[156]
ability to grow and engage their end
[157]
user base
[158]
as well as run and monetize their
[160]
content with the goal of optimizing end
[162]
user acquisition and operational costs
[164]
while increasing the lifetime value of
[166]
their end users
[167]
operate solutions is offered primarily
[169]
through revenue share and usage based
[171]
models
[172]
unity believes these two solution sets
[174]
allows them to generate revenue from
[176]
their customers
[177]
as the customers using create solutions
[179]
then drive adoption to operate solutions
[182]
which makes sense because growing their
[184]
user base and monetizing their content
[186]
is the next step from creating the
[188]
content and unity wants to make that as
[189]
easy as possible for the customer
[191]
so that they stay with the company as a
[192]
one-stop solution
[194]
for the year ended december 31 2019
[197]
63 of their operate solutions revenue
[199]
that came from customers with over one
[201]
hundred thousand dollars in annual
[202]
revenue
[203]
was from customers that also used their
[205]
create solutions
[206]
as of june 30th 2020 unity had
[209]
approximately 1.5 million active
[211]
creators in over 190 countries
[213]
and territories worldwide the
[216]
applications developed by these creators
[217]
were downloaded over 3 billion times per
[219]
month in 2019
[221]
on over 1.5 billion unique devices
[225]
unity is responsible for about 53 of the
[227]
top 1 000 games in apple's app store
[229]
and google play as stated in their
[232]
filing
[232]
the dramatic growth of end user demand
[234]
for interactive content
[236]
is driving industries beyond gaming to
[238]
embrace the advantages of real-time 3d
[240]
content
[241]
today major companies in industries such
[243]
as architecture engineering
[244]
construction automotive transportation
[247]
manufacturing
[248]
film television and retail are using
[250]
unity across
[251]
many new use cases including automobile
[254]
and building design
[255]
online and augmented reality product
[257]
configurators
[258]
autonomous driving simulation and
[260]
augmented reality workplace safety
[262]
training
[262]
these new forms of content are emerging
[264]
parts of the company's business and
[266]
represent a significant opportunity for
[267]
growth
[269]
so that's a little background of the
[270]
company now we're going to take a look
[272]
at their financials starting with
[273]
revenue
[274]
for the years ended december 31 2018 and
[276]
2019
[277]
revenue grew from 380.8 million dollars
[280]
to 541.8 million dollars
[282]
representing year over year growth of 42
[285]
along with that growth
[286]
the company is also reporting strong
[288]
gross margins of over 70 percent over
[290]
the past two years
[292]
now on the flip side the company has not
[294]
been able to show a profit since its
[295]
inception
[296]
and over the past two years have
[297]
reported net losses of 131.6 million
[300]
dollars in 2018
[302]
and then up to 163.2 million dollars in
[304]
2019.
[305]
much of the losses are due to high
[307]
research and development costs including
[309]
those costs being up 40
[310]
from the previous year now recently they
[312]
have shown a reduction in the amount of
[314]
cash used in operations
[315]
although in their filing unity devastate
[317]
that can fluctuate
[319]
so while the growth looks strong it is
[321]
important to consider that they have yet
[322]
to make a profit in effectively 16 years
[324]
of existence
[325]
so looking ahead let's try to see how
[327]
much more we think the company can grow
[329]
from the company's prospectus they
[331]
believe that there's a total market
[333]
opportunity of approximately 29 billion
[335]
dollars
[335]
across both gaming and other industries
[337]
and then according to a 2020 market
[339]
research report by research and markets
[341]
the global gaming industry is expected
[343]
to grow at a compound annual growth rate
[345]
of 12 percent
[346]
from 2020 to 2025 and by the end of 2020
[349]
the immersive gaming segment is expected
[351]
to generate 4.5 billion dollars
[353]
so that's what's in front of unity now
[356]
who is in their way
[357]
well there are two sets of competitors
[359]
one for their create solutions product
[360]
and another for the operate solutions
[362]
on the create solution side their
[364]
primary competitors are considered to be
[366]
epic gangs in check-on technologies
[368]
you might be most familiar with epic for
[370]
two reasons one is for the very popular
[372]
fortnight game
[373]
but also for the company's battle with
[374]
apple and google about pricing on their
[376]
app stores
[378]
on the operate solution side they have
[379]
some big names that are considered their
[381]
competition
[382]
including amazon facebook google
[384]
microsoft and tencent
[386]
however the competition on this side of
[388]
the business isn't as clear cut or is
[389]
direct
[390]
as many of these competitors are also
[392]
customers and partners
[394]
so that's some information on the
[395]
company that might help you in getting a
[396]
better idea of what the company is about
[398]
what kind of numbers they're producing
[400]
and what the market and competition
[402]
looks like in the near future
[404]
the ipo is expected for thursday
[405]
september 17th with trading then
[407]
beginning on friday under the ticker u
[410]
the initial pricing was expected to come
[411]
within a proposed pricing range of 34 to
[413]
42
[414]
however that has since been revised
[416]
upwards as the company now looks the
[418]
price between a range of 44 to 48
[420]
dollars
[421]
at the midpoint of the proposed range
[423]
unity would raise 1.2 billion dollars
[426]
from the money raised the company
[427]
intends to use the net proceeds for
[429]
general corporate purposes
[430]
including working capital operating
[433]
expenses and capital expenditures and
[435]
they also plan to repay the outstanding
[437]
125 million dollars of debt that was
[439]
borrowed in order to provide liquidity
[441]
in case of any impact on the financial
[443]
markets
[443]
related to the pandemic but which they
[445]
have not yet used to date
[447]
if pricing holds unity would be valued
[449]
in the 12 billion dollar range
[451]
the company was last valued at around 6
[453]
billion dollars in the middle of last
[454]
year
[455]
so now that it's going public which will
[457]
automatically bump up its valuation sum
[459]
and then reporting a strong year of
[461]
growth since that last valuation
[462]
at the ipo price i think that it's a
[465]
reasonable growth evaluation
[466]
at least as compared to some of the
[468]
other high-flying tech companies we've
[469]
seen
[469]
ipo recently at the valuation when i
[472]
look at the growth performance of the
[474]
company
[474]
a big market to work in one of its main
[477]
competitors potentially hurting
[478]
themselves in a legal fight with apple
[480]
and even when considering it hasn't
[482]
posted a profit yet in 16 years
[484]
i definitely think it's a company to
[486]
consider but again
[488]
it all comes to the price we could end
[489]
up getting it for and after watching
[491]
some other ipos
[492]
i don't know if it'll trade in a range
[493]
i'm comfortable with we'll have to see
[495]
what happens
[496]
i'm sure that unity is hoping its ipo
[498]
performs as well as snowflakes or even
[500]
half as well
[501]
wow is the only word i can use to
[503]
describe that ipo i expected snowflake
[505]
to trade higher than its ipo price
[507]
but not the levels it did it opened out
[510]
of the gate at 245 dollars
[512]
more than double its ipo pricing of the
[513]
night before of 120
[516]
it then searched upwards immediately to
[517]
the 300 range before settling back and
[520]
closing at just under 254 dollars
[522]
if you watched my previous videos on
[524]
snowflake you know i like the rate of
[526]
growth and the potential of high future
[527]
growth of the company
[529]
and when considering that along with the
[530]
hype the pricing of the offering and the
[532]
stamp of approval from warren buffett
[534]
there was no question that buying the
[536]
stock was going to come at a premium
[537]
but i have to admit that while i really
[539]
didn't know what to expect considering
[540]
the super bowl levels of hype the
[542]
company had
[543]
it still came out hotter than i thought
[544]
it would again
[546]
wow it's the only word that describes it
[548]
did any of you end up buying some shares
[550]
or did you end up passing for now
[552]
please let me know in the comments i'm
[554]
curious to know
[555]
i always say that what people within the
[557]
market are willing to pay determines
[558]
what the stock is worth
[560]
so i'm not going to say that the stock
[561]
is overpriced but for me
[564]
even considering the red hot growth
[565]
potential in future earnings
[567]
the company seems valued too high too
[569]
fast for me
[570]
so i did not buy in at this time that's
[572]
not to say i won't eventually
[574]
i'll just look for an opportunity down
[576]
the road some of you have heard me say
[578]
in the past that i look at an ipo is a
[579]
much longer race on a one-day sprint on
[581]
that first day of trading
[583]
i also look at the quiet period ending
[585]
the first earning reports
[586]
and then the lead up to and then the
[588]
expiration of the locked up shares
[590]
a quarterly earnings report with
[591]
projections lower than the super high
[593]
expectation the company has out there
[595]
or the possible selloff from the
[596]
insiders of all the locked up shares
[598]
that previously couldn't be traded
[600]
looking to capture some profits these
[602]
are the times when the stock price could
[603]
drop to a more reasonable level
[605]
although there's never a guarantee that
[606]
it actually will but because it often
[608]
does play out that way
[610]
think of beyond meat last year that's
[612]
one of the reasons i covered the
[613]
upcoming lock up expiration dates on
[614]
each episode of ipo this week
[617]
okay let's call it here this week has
[619]
exhausted me
[620]
i'm 99.7 percent this has to be the
[623]
longest weekend video time recorded i've
[624]
had on the channel
[626]
as always i'll be back next week as we
[628]
cover all the companies going public
[630]
including the company that many people
[631]
seem to either love or hate palantir
[634]
i hope you join me and also just a
[636]
friendly reminder to please like the
[638]
video if you enjoyed it
[639]
youtube really likes when you do that
[641]
and if you haven't yet subscribed to the
[643]
channel
[643]
but are enjoying or finding value and
[645]
learning more about all the companies
[646]
going public
[647]
i hope you consider joining the
[648]
community we're growing fast and we'd
[650]
love to have you on board
[652]
and with that thank you for watching and
[655]
