Warehouse Truck Loading Best Practices: LTL vs FTL - YouTube

Channel: Smart Gladiator LoadProof

[19]
so this is another best practice to keep in mind while you're you know doing LTL
[26]
or FTL right I mean we all know right I mean LTL is less than truckload and FTL
[30]
is full truck load and the full truckload you know it's always point
[34]
A to point B you load the truck to the fullest and then you know close it
[38]
lock it seal it and then boom it's gone right and obviously right do the
[43]
loading process carefully and do anything else proof we need to put in
[46]
air pillows - the air pillows if you have to put in and the tie bars you know
[49]
do the tie bars load bars cargo bars or whatever however you guys call it and
[53]
then also you know if you have to if it makes sense to you know strap apply the
[58]
strap you know do that right so that is all you know pretty standard for FTL and
[63]
you do that and you lock it and then seal it take the picture of the seal
[68]
take the picture of the you know like how well you did before closing the door
[72]
and upload them to load proof so whoever has any question you can immediately show
[76]
them hey this is the condition of the product when it left our facility so you
[82]
can prove you did your job right um so that's FTL right relatively simple so on
[87]
the LTL side so less than truckload what happens is right it's less than
[91]
truckload so usually what happens in the LTL scenario is you know you're loading you
[97]
know last in first-out right so you are loading in a reverse top sequence so if
[101]
you are making 10 stops in a town you know the last stop you know goes first
[108]
that means it's all the way of the deep end of the trailer and then the next one
[112]
next one next one next one the first one is kept at the front so you know what
[117]
happens so you know the driver goes the first stop drops off the first set of
[121]
pallets and then goes to the second you know stop drops off the second it's not
[125]
always clean right I mean they're going to maximize this cube and they're
[128]
gonna you know load it as tightly as they can to you know not make to reduce
[133]
the number of trips the trucks they need to do so while doing that right you
[137]
have to realize that there is way too much handling that's happening to all
[141]
these LTL pallets so it's important to you know understand that right
[146]
recognize the fact that hey there is way too much handling happening so if you are
[149]
applying some kind of a shrink wrapping the shrink wrapping needs to be pretty
[152]
tight and the higher quality compared to a you know if you're doing shrink
[158]
wrapping for a FTL right because too much a handling is happening and
[161]
also depending on the weight you are gauge of the shrink wrapping that you're
[167]
using right the sheet the PVC or whatever you know plastic sheet that you're
[172]
using the gauge also has to you know the gauge is the thickness of the sheet so
[179]
that needs to be able to handle the weight of the product that you're
[183]
transporting right that's very important so if you're transferring a really heavy
[187]
product then you have to shrink wrap it with a you know 100 gauge Plus because
[192]
that's the one that that can handle the most weight and if it's a you know less
[198]
weight I have the product then you can go with the 65 75 gauge you know thickness
[203]
so that's very important to keep in mind right if it's LTL you know it's more lot
[208]
more handling so you've got a you know recognize that hey you know it's a lot
[214]
more handling think through that and you know packet a
[217]
probably pack it and load it appropriately right whatever straps or
[222]
whatever you guys might use so recognize the fact that LTLs require
[226]
more handling you know sometimes sometimes the truck driver may have to
[230]
you know he went to the second stop or third stop and he has to move some
[234]
pallets to get the pallet out I mean even though however efficiently they do
[238]
it I've seen many times right many times have been to these DC's and these guys
[242]
either they dropped it off or they're you know they just got you know a
[246]
pallets loaded onto their truck they'll be parked in a corner of the DC campus and
[252]
they'll be like you know sorting things and you know adjusting things and
[256]
covering things up and things like that so so that way they make sure hey you
[260]
know all right you know sometimes sometimes these drivers don't even have
[264]
access to the dock I mean in the FTL's scenario they cannot even see what is
[268]
loaded so they just go pull it to the dock door and then everybody loads the
[273]
pallet and then I mean the the container is loaded by the shipper they ship they
[278]
load everything and then they closed the door and they
[281]
take pictures of the driver doesn't even have visibility to it all he has to do
[285]
is drive and go to the destination and then drop off that's it but in the LTL
[290]
scenario right they they make multiple stops and then they deliver sometimes
[294]
they after the delivery they stop in the corner of the you know a campus within
[299]
the yard area and then they adjust things they take pictures and they make
[303]
sure right for the rest of the distance wherever they need to go everything is
[306]
going on hold up pretty well right nothing is going to fall off nothing is
[310]
gonna shake and you know get scratches and things like that so so that's
[315]
something you know that's very important to keep in mind that if you are shipping
[318]
LTL you've got to be a lot more careful and a lot more packing is needed because
[322]
a lot more handling happens a lot more you know a lot more it's vulnerable to
[326]
you know damages so a lot more things happening right a lot more action
[330]
whereas an FTL it's point A to point B nobody's touching in the middle unless
[333]
right your your your trailer gets stolen and that happens that happens too - we've
[337]
had heard some crazy stories where there was this you know trailer full of car
[342]
batteries that was you know shipped and somehow it just disappeared and then
[347]
later they found the trailer half of the batteries were missing so you know that
[350]
happens as well so I know in a normal scenario that's an exception obviously
[354]
so in a normal scenario that won't happen so that's something to keep in
[357]
mind right if it's LTL recognize the fact that it needs more handling so even
[362]
more shrink-wrapping so you know and apply the you know take into that take
[366]
into account the weight of the product that they're shipping and make sure
[369]
apply the right you know shrink-wrapping make sure the gauge of the
[374]
shrink-wrapping material you know it can handle the weight of the product that
[378]
you transport right so yeah thank you for taking the time to watch this video
[382]
please you know share this with your friends
[384]
and co-workers and like this video add any comments and let us know if there is
