2 Chess Grandmasters Got In A "Fight" - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
when you think of chess grandmasters competing you聽
might think intelligence class dignity and respect聽聽
[6]
but that's not always the case oftentimes at聽
top level events it's not just the battle of the聽聽
[10]
brains it's also a battle of the egos and in the聽
post game press conferences fiery things happen聽聽
[16]
and people have arguments in 2014 anish geary had聽
the white pieces against badorjaba he's the number聽聽
[21]
one ranked georgian player in the world and they聽
had quite the interesting banter after their game聽聽
[27]
we're going to take a look at that clip聽
first and then we will analyze but basically聽聽
[31]
but door is claiming at first in the interview聽
that he's got a good position with some attacking聽聽
[35]
chances aneesh is being very sarcastic and uh聽
well bador had a few things to say about that聽聽
[41]
and also this move proves probably that there聽
is no such huge attack in the end of the day if聽聽
[45]
you continue i will say some number few words聽
to you and move over this conference so speak聽聽
[50]
normally okay yes but you're not smiling but聽
i'm not the guy who's you can iron it here聽聽
[59]
so if you didn't understand that badoor says i聽
am not the kind of guy you can ironic uh stop聽聽
[65]
acting like an idiot smiling like an idiot and a聽
little bit later anish uh says something along the聽聽
[71]
lines of well in this position badur started聽
defending really resourcefully uh by cursing聽聽
[75]
under his breath you know it's difficult聽
to play against such a resourceful player聽聽
[79]
anyway uh that clip isn't really out there there's聽
no game out there so let's take a look now at this聽聽
[84]
game let me know in the comments whether you've聽
had an in-person or online trash talking incident聽聽
[89]
or whether you are usually the聽
person that trash talks here we go聽聽
[93]
knight f3 from manish this is uh c5 now and c4 so聽
a symmetrical english opening from the white side聽聽
[101]
uh and black plays knight c6 but a niche plays聽
a very early break d4 you don't always have to聽聽
[106]
go for this you can also just play with the knight聽
the bishop but uh he plays for d4 this trade and聽聽
[111]
now a very aggressive move by jobava e5 jobava is聽
a very creative and aggressive player it is much聽聽
[117]
more natural to play something like this uh and聽
oftentimes the position will turn into a sicilian聽聽
[122]
defense transposition kind of like a dragon meroxy聽
setup but e5 knight b5 and anish is going for this聽聽
[129]
well butter plays d6 now you have no access聽
because it's covered by queen and bishop聽聽
[134]
knight c3 and you would think well why wouldn't聽
he do this like why would he put his knights like聽聽
[138]
this this doesn't make any sense but it does he聽
he ends up in all of this getting very strong聽聽
[143]
uh central control but bandur had uh serious plans聽
here he plays the move f5 very aggressive already聽聽
[150]
um he's playing uh kind of like a flank flank聽
attack he's completely disregarding the fact聽聽
[156]
that he's got no control of the center and rather聽
than just playing knight f6 naturally he plays the聽聽
[160]
f pawn and then puts the knight behind it very聽
unique idea castles bishop e7 uh and there's a聽聽
[166]
few ways for white to move forward here uh white聽
can just very naturally put the knight on d5聽聽
[171]
uh but anish plays e4 striking directly into the聽
center of the board uh and uh while opening the聽聽
[178]
queen for example he can also bring his rook聽
to this file not a necessary move but a move聽聽
[183]
black takes and now black doesn't take a second聽
time because really if you do this and then castle聽聽
[189]
it's not so clear whether you've actually improved聽
your position uh in many cases you you actually聽聽
[193]
can make the argument that this is just very聽
weakening and you're just going to get checkmated聽聽
[198]
so knight takes c4 he doesn't take he castles and聽
here a very natural looking move for uh for anish聽聽
[204]
is the move knight g5 just going for this bishop聽
but this bishop is going to move it's not going to聽聽
[209]
stick around bishop to g4 hits the queen uh defend聽
it like this and um well what is there to say聽聽
[217]
knight g5 doesn't accomplish anything so anish聽
plays b3 and what that does is it uh obviously聽聽
[223]
blunts the effect of this bishop and this bishop聽
will come to b2 pretty naturally maybe this knight聽聽
[227]
will rotate around to the center to also control聽
king h8 the point of king h8 is that badour wants聽聽
[234]
to play bishop g4 he cannot play bishop g4 in聽
this position because while he is attacking the聽聽
[238]
queen it is protected by the knight and i will聽
play knight takes f6 check it's a concept of聽聽
[243]
danger levels i don't have to get my queen out聽
of danger if i can put something under attack聽聽
[248]
which is worth more than a queen that's just the聽
king so knight f6 and then you would go here so聽聽
[254]
uh you would go here so king h8 gets out of the聽
way of the check knight c2 bishop g4 queen d2聽聽
[260]
queen d7 uh bishop b2 take take and bishop f3 so聽
badour is is kind of playing very principled uh聽聽
[268]
chess here by trying to trade off white's light聽
squared bishop and leave white with three dark聽聽
[273]
squared pawns which means that the dark squares聽
are good but the light squares are unaccounted for聽聽
[278]
there's some shuffling here with the queens uh聽
is refusing to take but durr is refusing to take聽聽
[283]
uh queen this only looks like it's scary but聽
there's no actual mate because bishop will take聽聽
[288]
rookie three and now finally this trade the聽
position really in question uh as far as in聽聽
[293]
the thumbnail is right around here uh when the聽
players were shuffling their pieces back and forth聽聽
[299]
uh i shouldn't say in the thumbnail i聽
should say in the clip that we just saw聽聽
[302]
the players here were shuffling their聽
pieces once you see a niche repeated聽聽
[306]
and so badur was asking any she's like why did聽
you uh repeat if you're you know if uh you're not聽聽
[314]
scared of my attack and anisha is like well i mean聽
i i just repeated once i didn't repeat two times聽聽
[319]
and here badur didn't even go back uh he played聽
queen h3 and this looks great i mean rook h6聽聽
[325]
mate except for the fact that that's covered and聽
also the queen can also come back to g2 so anish聽聽
[330]
couldn't figure out why on earth but door was聽
saying that he was under attack but okay bishop聽聽
[335]
b3 queen goes back to h5 a3 and now anisha starts聽
to create play on the other side of the board聽聽
[342]
queen g2 queen back to e8 knight b4 uh the point聽
of this move is to trade the knights and start聽聽
[348]
to advance on the queen side because again this聽
bind is very annoying so h5 badour's still trying聽聽
[354]
to attack here but i'm not really sure what he's聽
attacking and each plays a nice move c5 a trade聽聽
[359]
uh this is anything but a free pawn because c聽
takes d6 so you have to go queen g6 defending聽聽
[365]
this we get rook d1 a trade and a niche instead聽
of taking the c pawn that pawn used to guard the聽聽
[371]
e pawn now the bishop is under attack you attack聽
and bishop c5 disregarding again danger levels聽聽
[378]
equal or exceeding danger in this particular case聽
uh both rooks are hanging and both rooks disappear聽聽
[384]
we get h4 bishop p7 takes takes oh sorry聽
rook d a check not takes because if you take聽聽
[395]
i will play bishop takes bad levy i spoke too fast聽
if you take take it's not good we're going to lose聽聽
[402]
here anish does not take back place rook d a check聽
then gives another check and this king is stuck聽聽
[410]
well black has queen h6 and this is kind of funny聽
because even though this is a looking like a free聽聽
[414]
rook uh it's check and mate so anish has to trade聽
the queens and get this end game where he has rook聽聽
[420]
bishop and four pawns versus rook bishop and three聽
the bad thing for a niche is these pawns the good聽聽
[426]
thing for anish is that he's a niche and also聽
the fact that his rook is very active and these聽聽
[431]
pawns can be very easy targets while this pawn聽
is well protected even if this pawn is very weak聽聽
[436]
he also has two on one which is very useful so聽
let's see bishop c5 rookie one king g2 rook a1聽聽
[445]
king f3 but badour was actually defending very聽
resourcefully not just swearing under his breath聽聽
[450]
he put his bishop on a very annoying square and聽
when anisha's king tried to walk to c6 and take聽聽
[456]
look at this if you go here i take the pawn聽
and you're pinned a very unique defensive setup聽聽
[462]
here from bador like super super passive bishop聽
almost looks like it's going to get trapped but聽聽
[467]
never just quite that so anish decides okay i've聽
had enough i'm going to start pushing my pawns聽聽
[472]
on the king side i'm going to start pushing here聽
this bishop is out of the game that's going to be聽聽
[476]
my opportunity and he's actually not wrong he did聽
exactly the right thing by advancing these pawns聽聽
[482]
and right here uh he had his moment uh he had聽
one moment he could have played rook to e3 and聽聽
[488]
this move essentially is trying to go check so聽
for example if black plays something like rook聽聽
[494]
d2 check you'll play king c6 and now you're聽
getting over here so if the rule goes to g2聽聽
[500]
going for your pawn instead of just pushing you聽
give a check first the king cannot come forward聽聽
[507]
because after check you lose your pawn once you聽
lose two both pawns you're gonna lose the game聽聽
[513]
if king g6 bishop e5 you have no actual way of聽
defending this pawn the pawns are just too strong聽聽
[519]
uh if king goes back then you go聽
g5 and this king is very passive聽聽
[522]
what anish did in the game uh is he played聽
g5 first before finding this little maneuver聽聽
[530]
and that allowed black to have an active king聽
super important in the end game you should try to聽聽
[535]
make your opponent's king as passive as possible聽
especially end games like this because now聽聽
[541]
you're just out of time like i want to make聽
all the moves but there's just not enough time聽聽
[545]
if bishop b5 in this position uh bishop takes聽
b4 maybe but also even something like bishop c1聽聽
[552]
and it's not so easy to defend this pawn because聽
of the pin so we got king d7 but then badur just聽聽
[558]
activated his pieces and boom this is known as a聽
blockade when your opponent covers up your pieces聽聽
[566]
from moving forward in an end game because all聽
of your pieces are on the same color often time聽聽
[571]
the opposite color then will be weak and so black聽
creates a light squared blockade here if white had聽聽
[576]
a light squared bishop you kick this guy out聽
immediately it's got a dark squared bishop he聽聽
[580]
can't i mean it looks like you can take but then聽
this pawn falls and very quickly this pawn falls聽聽
[586]
and now it's two on two and actually it looks聽
here like maybe you will create something but聽聽
[592]
rook takes b3 was played in the game uh and聽
this is actually where badur offered to draw聽聽
[596]
and anish accepted you say well why would anish聽
accept a draw here that doesn't make any sense聽聽
[602]
can't he just take on b3 also can't he聽
just take on f4 yes but then king g6聽聽
[610]
and rook in two versus rook and bishop聽
i mean in the best case scenario white聽聽
[616]
wins both pawns and then tries to win rook聽
and bishop versus rook which is winnable聽聽
[620]
but i mean perhaps anish was already low on time聽
and didn't even want to do this and it's like why聽聽
[626]
would it wouldn't just take the rook here's why so聽
rook and uh king and rook versus king and bishop聽聽
[633]
is a draw provided a few things you're going聽
to learn about this super random end game today聽聽
[638]
there has to be something in this position聽
your king the easiest way to do this rather聽聽
[643]
than even hanging out in the center of the board聽
although that is also a draw is to put your king聽聽
[649]
in the corner of the opposite color square of the聽
bishop so that your king can stand in the corner聽聽
[656]
and your bishop can be the shield watch that's聽
what we're gonna learn let's just let's just聽聽
[661]
run the king to the corner literally聽
the most passive thing that you can do聽聽
[666]
normally when you're trying to avoid mate or聽
losing you avoid the corner but this is different聽聽
[671]
because there's no way for the other person to聽
checkmate you let's say they get to this position聽聽
[677]
and you play like i don't know bishop to d4 for聽
example they play rook g4 hitting your bishop in聽聽
[684]
this and you were stopping mate the only thing you聽
need to be careful about is getting mated so don't聽聽
[689]
play bishop a1 and hang mate that completely kills聽
my lesson you can play a few things you can even聽聽
[693]
play bishop f6 why because let's say i go here聽
well now it's like how would you stop mate oh聽聽
[699]
i gotta get back to h2 so bishop b5 check here聽
and white can't do anything if white goes king聽聽
[706]
of two it's still mate you're just stuck in the聽
corner and if white plays king e2 for example聽聽
[711]
you can play king g2 because on the very next move聽
you're gonna go right back to the corner so it's聽聽
[716]
important uh that you know how to do this if you聽
hide your king on the wrong corner uh like for聽聽
[721]
example if um you had run your king here and the聽
bishop was here you would not be able to shield聽聽
[726]
your king from the checks and so white would聽
just outmaneuver you uh and uh and win the game聽聽
[732]
so there you go that's why after rook takes b3 as聽
draw was agreed hopefully you enjoyed a little bit聽聽
[736]
the drama uh if you want to go watch the full clip聽
and you've made it this far in the video uh you聽聽
[741]
can go ahead and do that it's in the description聽
and if there's any other chest drama y'all are聽聽
[745]
aware of uh whether or not that content has been聽
covered for example by like agadmathra just let me聽聽
[750]
know i want to make videos like this this is one聽
of my favorite interviews ever and i never even聽聽
[755]
thought about making a video but here we are聽
so do let me know uh and then uh yeah we will聽聽
[762]
we'll continue this fun series聽
i'll see you in the next video
