Debit Card vs Credit Card - What Banks Don't Want YOU to Know - YouTube
Channel: Bob Sharpe
[0]
what's up my friends i'm bob i'm back again聽
with another video today we're talking about聽聽
[2]
the difference between a debit card and a credit聽
card and what banks don't really want you to know聽聽
[8]
stay tuned! in this video i want to share a couple聽
things i want to share the difference of course聽聽
[14]
between a debit and a credit card but they're聽
really important things that you need to know聽聽
[16]
about there is a way that you can apply a free聽
tool that i'm going to share with you at the end聽聽
[21]
of this video and be able to pay off your credit聽
cards in full every single month and take massive聽聽
[26]
advantage of the cash back rewards benefits so聽
be sure to stick with me through the entire video聽聽
[31]
we're going to share some really cool things today聽
let's talk about the basics okay debit card credit聽聽
[34]
card there's not a whole lot to really get into聽
the fact is a debit card is kind of like cash but聽聽
[39]
it pulls the balance directly out of your checking聽
or savings account let's say for example you go聽聽
[44]
over to a store you purchase something on your聽
debit card as soon as you swipe that debit card聽聽
[49]
it is pulling money out of either your checking聽
or your savings account whatever account is tied聽聽
[53]
to that debit card now with a credit card the big聽
difference would be that you have a credit line聽聽
[58]
and that credit line does not get pulled聽
directly out of your bank account you can use聽聽
[62]
your credit card for whatever item or service聽
but you don't have that money get pulled out of聽聽
[66]
your account which means you have to pay it later聽
that's where people get tripped up and they find聽聽
[70]
themselves in credit card debt something that we聽
want to avoid so while that's a primary difference聽聽
[74]
between a debit card and a credit card uh the聽
similarity is a debit card does offer you the聽聽
[79]
same type of protections as a credit card so for聽
example you have the ability to have a fraud alert聽聽
[84]
and fraud protection on a debit card as well as聽
the ability in some cases to dispute any charges聽聽
[89]
that might come in that look a little weird聽
which of course from that perspective a debit聽聽
[93]
card is certainly a lot better than using cash聽
to pay for things because cash could simply just聽聽
[98]
get lost there's two schools of thought as i see聽
it you have the dave Ramsey group right which聽聽
[103]
i have been a dave Ramsey follower for many years聽
but the dave Ramsey group says avoid credit cards聽聽
[108]
like the plague they're going to bite you they're聽
going to get you they're going to ruin your life聽聽
[111]
you're going to go into debt then you have people聽
that say wait a second i'm going to take advantage聽聽
[115]
of credit cards to get travel rewards benefits do聽
you know that there are people that are traveling聽聽
[120]
all over the world as a result of just using聽
their credit card for their everyday purchases and聽聽
[125]
let me show you a really cool example i have an聽
american express cash back rewards card so i get聽聽
[129]
cash back when i use my american express card and聽
look at this i have pending rewards dollars of 87聽聽
[135]
and 84 cents that i can cash out right now and聽
even better yet look what's pending what's coming聽聽
[140]
next month is 78.37 now that might seem like a lot聽
but really what i'm doing is i'm using my card for聽聽
[147]
my everyday purchases we're talking groceries聽
gas things that i gotta buy anyway and all i'm聽聽
[153]
doing is i pay it off every month and then i can聽
take advantage of those cash back rewards so i'm聽聽
[158]
essentially saving myself some money or of course聽
if you're a big traveler you can take that you can聽聽
[162]
apply it toward flights cruises or anything in聽
between becomes kind of super cool here's where聽聽
[168]
we get all tripped up did you know according to聽
lendingtree.com 42 of americans during quarter 2聽聽
[175]
of 2020 carried a balance on their credit card聽
month over month that means 32 percent paid it聽聽
[182]
off every month and 26 had a card but never really聽
used it which means they probably use their debit聽聽
[187]
card the problem with doing that is if you are聽
going to carry a balance on your credit card the聽聽
[192]
credit cards are going to charge you an interest聽
payment which means that you're taking your amount聽聽
[197]
of money that you have and you're paying more聽
money just to carry a balance on your credit card聽聽
[202]
that's not what we want to do we want to be聽
able to pay it off in full every single month聽聽
[206]
i'm going to walk you through exactly how i do聽
that guaranteed without fail god forbid if we聽聽
[211]
get laid off or something bad happens where our聽
income stops coming in because we did this little聽聽
[216]
trick we're still able to pay off the credit聽
card in full without fail there's three key聽聽
[220]
principles though when it comes down to saying聽
we're gonna ditch the debit card number one is聽聽
[225]
that we're never going to carry a balance on the聽
credit card at all month over month we're going to聽聽
[229]
pay it off exactly every single month number two聽
is we're only going to use the credit card for聽聽
[235]
items and services that we already have in our聽
monthly budget like i mentioned earlier you got聽聽
[240]
groceries you get gas and good things like that聽
that's what we're focused on and number three聽聽
[244]
we're gonna use the simple tool that i'm gonna聽
walk you through today and i'm gonna include it聽聽
[247]
down below in the description underneath the stuff聽
that i recommend there'll be a link click on it聽聽
[252]
and you can download this and follow along with me聽
on how to use this simple tool to be able to pay聽聽
[258]
off your credit card every single month and take聽
advantage of those cash back rewards i shared with聽聽
[263]
you or those trips that you always wanted to save聽
up for so if you're ready to check out this tool聽聽
[268]
and be able to download it all i ask a simple聽
charge simple price tap that like button down聽聽
[273]
below this video it helps the video it helps this聽
channel i certainly appreciate when you do that so聽聽
[278]
give me a like that's all i ask and i'm going to聽
give you this transaction register absolutely free聽聽
[283]
okay so let's hop over to the transaction register聽
i'm gonna walk you through it step by step聽聽
[287]
okay so once you open this transaction register聽
using the link down below in the description this聽聽
[292]
is what you're gonna get and this is what's cool聽
because this right here column g is automatically聽聽
[298]
calculated within excel don't ever touch anything聽
except for the green balance right here at the聽聽
[302]
top this is going to be your opening balance聽
that you're going to use for your everyday聽聽
[306]
transactions so let's say for example i'm actually聽
going to change this to one thousand dollars and聽聽
[310]
you'll notice that the balance throughout聽
will automatically update right there we go聽聽
[314]
now here's what i do to make sure that i'm聽
taking advantage of the credit cards and聽聽
[319]
to the point i shared earlier how i'm able to earn聽
anywhere from 50 to 70 to 80 a month with my cash聽聽
[326]
back rewards on my credit card so in my budget聽
i'm gonna have a couple things that go under this聽聽
[332]
number column i'm gonna i'm gonna detail them out聽
right here i use d and that is for deposits so聽聽
[339]
anytime i get paid i use d dc is when you would聽
use a debit card but we're going to slightly聽聽
[345]
out rule that because we don't want to use that聽
anymore ap is an automatic payment so if you聽聽
[351]
do have anything that comes out of your bank聽
account automatically that's what i use the ap聽聽
[355]
for and then for credit cards there's two things聽
you could use you could use cc and that would聽聽
[361]
indicate credit card or in my case what i do is聽
i use amex because everything that i use for my聽聽
[367]
cashback rewards is an amex credit card so i just聽
type in amex under number just to make it easier聽聽
[374]
there we go okay so let's start with some basic聽
all right so what we're going to do here is we're聽聽
[379]
going to do a simple deposit of 11 20 21 and聽
we're going to say it's our normal paycheck聽聽
[385]
okay whatever you want to put as your description聽
and then under deposit we're going to put 100 so聽聽
[391]
obviously you don't make a whole lot of money聽
but it's okay we're gonna budget the sound anyway聽聽
[395]
so here's your first budget item you're gonna聽
go to work and because you're going to work you聽聽
[399]
need to get some gas and stop by a gas station聽
but instead of using the debit card as you have聽聽
[403]
in the past you're going to use your american聽
express card or whatever credit card you prefer聽聽
[407]
and then that's how you're purchasing the gas the聽
end of the day or whenever you want come back to聽聽
[412]
your transaction register go on to the app of聽
either the credit card or go onto the website聽聽
[417]
of the credit card look at what it says because it聽
should have a pending charge from that gas company聽聽
[422]
and plug it in to the transaction register here聽
we go so i'm going to type in mx because that's聽聽
[427]
what i used let's say i got gas on 1 321 and聽
this is going to be called gas from i don't know聽聽
[434]
where are we getting gas from guys these days聽
i'll just say uh yeah geez i don't know shell聽聽
[440]
shell's a good gas station i guess and then聽
this is where you're gonna put the payment聽聽
[444]
and let's say you spent 65 on gas for whatever聽
reason gas is that expensive watch what happens聽聽
[450]
here it's going to automatically update your聽
balance from this point forward boom look at聽聽
[455]
that 1035 automatically updated now what's cool聽
is that actually is your bank account right so聽聽
[462]
even though you haven't paid off your credit card聽
yet you're making it kind of like a pretend pay on聽聽
[468]
a credit card and that way you know how much is聽
actually in your account for everyday spending聽聽
[474]
then i'm going to say we have an automatic payment聽
on 1 421 and let's just say that is your typical聽聽
[480]
mortgage payment and that's going to be in the聽
total of eight hundred dollars and again boom聽聽
[484]
it updates everything from that point forward聽
so you can continue to go through here and聽聽
[488]
plug in whatever you want so i'm going to say聽
another normal paycheck this time we made 200聽聽
[492]
and you can see it upgrades there and then聽
we're going to use our amex payment again聽聽
[496]
and this time we're going to get some聽
groceries from your favorite grocery store聽聽
[500]
and let's say our groceries were a total of聽
200 so there we go now at the end of the month聽聽
[508]
when you get your statement from american express聽
or a city card or whatever credit card you have聽聽
[513]
pull that up and we're going to balance our聽
checkbook so how you balance the checkbook聽聽
[518]
is you go on to your credit card statement so聽
let's say for example your credit card statement聽聽
[522]
comes up and it's saying on one four you have a聽
i'm sorry on one three you have your shell gas聽聽
[528]
and it's an amount of 65 dollars well that聽
matches perfectly and then one for your聽聽
[533]
grocery bill and that's 200 okay everything聽
looks great so what i do is i go through here聽聽
[539]
and i can filter this out if i want to and聽
only select everything that's on my amex only聽聽
[545]
and then i can see okay well here's that and then聽
in this little column column e you see the little聽聽
[550]
x i'm putting an x right here for guess from shell聽
as well as the groceries because that balanced聽聽
[555]
correctly with my current american express聽
statement once the statement is done and i聽聽
[561]
have additional charges so let's let me give you聽
an example of that let's say for example i have聽聽
[566]
an amex on 2 5 21 for some groceries that were聽
100 that's actually not on my american express聽聽
[575]
January statement so i'm not going to put an x on聽
that yet i'll just leave that alone then what i do聽聽
[580]
is i look through all of this i make sure that聽
my current bank account matches my deposit my聽聽
[586]
automatic payment as well as my second deposit聽
and then once everything is perfect for the month聽聽
[591]
i'm going to then take my current statement聽
balance on the american express card or the credit聽聽
[597]
card and pay it off in full because i balanced聽
it with my transaction register to the exact t of聽聽
[604]
everything that was on that statement i will know聽
that i'm paying it off in full and that i already聽聽
[610]
have the cash because i've been pretending聽
that it was debiting out of my bank account聽聽
[615]
all throughout the month and then i continue to聽
use this transaction register as we go on in life聽聽
[620]
and i constantly every time i get a new statement聽
from my credit card balance the statement to my聽聽
[625]
transaction register pay it off in full rinse聽
and repeat rinse and repeat so there's a link聽聽
[631]
down below in the description go get yourself聽
that transaction register i hope it is helpful聽聽
[635]
it's something i've used now for many years and it聽
keeps me responsible for my everyday credit card聽聽
[641]
purchases and then i hope this helped you as well聽
to be able to take advantage of the credit card聽聽
[646]
benefits without going into debt but having聽
a guaranteed way to pay off your credit cards聽聽
[650]
because you're treating it as a debit card聽
or as cash as the month goes along if it was聽聽
[656]
helpful make sure you tap that like button for聽
me and comment below let me know any questions聽聽
[660]
you have and also what did you find most helpful聽
in today's video i would love to know also be聽聽
[665]
sure to check out the video i'll include it on聽
the end screen coming up here in just a moment聽聽
[669]
two how you can raise your credit score and guess聽
what by the way using this transaction register聽聽
[673]
can indeed help you raise your credit score up聽
because you're going to take advantage of paying聽聽
[677]
off that credit card in full every single month聽
which gives you the benefit of having lower credit聽聽
[682]
utilization and great payment history which聽
definitely impacts your credit score so check聽聽
[689]
out that video i'll link it at the end of this聽
video but until next time and as always continue聽聽
