Hi guys, you might have seen my last video about the leasing return.
[4]
The Mecedes has been returned now.
[7]
What also belongs to a leasing return is the assessment.
[11]
This is Sascha. He's the appraiser today at Mercedes Bald.
[15]
You're inspecting my AMG today - or rather "Ex-AMG".
[20]
That´s right.
[22]
Let´s start! I just want to point out that the evaluation will be neutral - I don´t get any special treatment here.
[30]
We´re also explaining later on why the car went back wrapped.
[34]
Let´s do this step by step. Were do you begin now?
[37]
We do a test drive on the premises to check if there are any noises from the axle, engine or gearbox.
[47]
Then we go to the lifting platform and record the core data of the vehicle.
[50]
We do this to check if the chassis number is correct or the number of keys.
[56]
Once we have checked and entered all the core data, we start evaluating the vehicle.
[60]
Whether there are damages or dents.
[61]
When we have finished checking the vehicle, we can, if necessary, make a direct cost calculation for any damage.
[70]
Then we drive off the lift, put the vehicle back in its place and go to the responsible customer service consultant. I am then finished with my part.
[77]
And the car dealer will take care of the rest with you.
[79]
Let`s start with the test drive.
[82]
I was rarely only a passenger in this car.
[88]
Now we have checked if the seat belts work properly as we used them.
[102]
Is it sufficient for the test drive if you drive only at walking speed here on the premises?
[107]
Yeah, we're just going for a little drive to see if everything's working okay (such as steering, whether the transmission shifts cleanly and whether the engine is working properly).
[116]
The road here is uneven, which is advantageous because you can feel the bump.
[123]
We check the braking behaviour, whether the brake squeals.
[125]
At least I didn't notice.
[128]
It is a good vehicle and has only driven 20,000 km.
[132]
Is there a first assessment?
[135]
The car runs very smoothly. The way it should, with the mileage on it.
[139]
It is only one year old - runs perfectly.
[144]
No noise on the axle of the vehicle, engine runs nicely, shifts clean.
[149]
It was always well treated.
[151]
How it should be.
[152]
Now it's time for the lift.
[154]
Yes, now we go to the lifting platform and insert all the vehicle data in the computer.
[159]
Alright!
[183]
This is the operating system we work with, you can add all the characteristics that have not yet been entered.
[189]
This way we can be sure that all data in the report is correct.
[193]
We are on the lift now, we did a test drive and so we let the engine run sufficiently.
[198]
What did you do there?
[200]
We have now entered the core data of the vehicle and now we are checking the interior for changes in the factory condition.
[208]
We noticed that the door panels and the seats were covered with Alcantara fabric.
[212]
We then check for damage to the surface but we have not detected any damage.
[221]
How exactly would that normally happen. Well, I've discussed all the changes before.
[227]
I got the approval from the Mercedes Dealer that I was allowed to change the interior and get the car wrapped.
[235]
I ordered the car in the first place because of these permits.
[240]
It was agreed on that I give back the car in this condition with the changed interior and the wrapping.
[245]
How is that normally? Would you charge for the altered interior, even though it is in impeccable condition?
[256]
If the change upgrades the vehicle, we do not charge for the interior. This is the case, for example, if the car was delivered with cloth seats and comes back with Alcantara.
[267]
This change increases the value of the vehicle.
[269]
So if Alcantara seats were changed into normal cloth seats, would you charge for the interior? (Why would you do that?)
[276]
Exactly, in that case the lower quality seats would be removed and new seats of the higher value would be ordered.
[284]
Then what about the warranty on the seat covers?
[292]
Would that be omitted?
[294]
This is not so easy to define, as it represents a change in the vehicle. It is also up to the customer and the respective car dealer.
[302]
In the case of grossly negligent changes, such as changes to seats with airbags, the warranty is void, because they no longer meet the safety standard.
[313]
So it is best to discuss every change with the dealer, who will also take the car back. You can't go wrong.
[319]
This is the best way to protect yourself. Maybe you should get it all in written form what you're allowed to change.
[324]
What's next? What else do you have to check inside?
[329]
We check the complete control unit: whether the ventilation works, whether the air conditioning works, whetherthe window lifters work, horn, radio, navigation. We do this to make sure the car is in perfect condition.
[344]
If something is broken, e.g. the Navi is without function, you will be charged for it.
[348]
But that would actually be a warranty case if it wasn't my fault, right?
[352]
That's right. But if the display of the navi is scratched, it would be damaged and therefore not covered by warranty.
[359]
This means that all damages caused by yourself will be charged but technical defects for which you are not responsible will be covered by the warranty, as the vehicle is only one year old, right?
[368]
Yes that would be covered by warranty then.
[370]
Of course you have to pay for damages caused by your own fault.
[376]
Sascha is still making his documentary pictures now.
[383]
Let´s check the car outside.
[385]
I take pictures of the changed equipment.
[389]
Such as the seats and the carbon fiber parts.
[392]
Let´s check the Chassis number.
[394]
So they can identify the car? That it's the right vehicle, right?
[400]
Yes, that way we can confirm that it´s the right vehicle.
[407]
I check the tyre size to make sure that the delivery condition is maintained.
[416]
I determine the tread depth and tire size.
[418]
Okay. At what tread depth would a tire like that be charged?
[423]
According to leasing specifications 2mm.
[425]
Okay.
[425]
Or, if the tire is not evenly worn. But we'll check that in a minute.
[431]
What is it?
[432]
6 mm.
[434]
Well, then I'm lucky.
[437]
The front right is also 6mm.
[438]
Perfect.
[440]
As we have mixed tyres we can only check the front and rear axle separately.
[447]
Rear right tire has 5mm.
[450]
Left one ia also 5mm.
[452]
Lucky me - I have already saved money.
[454]
As the vehicle is at the right height we check the edge of the tyres for wear and damage.
[461]
We also check the rim directly. We look directly into the brake - great!
[465]
Top condition!
[466]
If the rim had a scratch - when would something be charged?
[470]
As soon as the damage is outside the leasing specifications.
[473]
For example, if the scratch is between 5-8 mm deep.
[477]
Then I would mark the rim for Smart Repair. Then you would have to pay a deductible of about 120€.
[482]
After that the rim would be in perfect condition again.
[484]
What if the scratch is superficial?
[487]
Then it would be considered a sign of wear and would not be charged.
[493]
What is that thing for?
[494]
You can see the dents better with this tool.
[500]
As you can see no dent over there.
[504]
Because it reflects this?
[506]
Exactly one would immediately recognize this in the lines.
[510]
In this way it is possible to show the customer directly where the component is damaged and how large the dent is.
[519]
When would the dent be charged?
[521]
Starting at 2 mm depth.
[525]
So then probably any dent...
[527]
It also depends on the Leasing Agency, what they define.
[532]
Here we have the specification that 2 dents per component up to 2mm deep are still to be regarded as traces of use.
[541]
Two dents per component...
[543]
I think from 6 dents in the vehicle they are all charged.
[549]
Here the car is slightly scraped on the ground.
[555]
However, this is still within the tolerance range of the leasing specifications and may be calculated with 0 €.
[561]
Although the car, like many always write on social media "is high as a bus", it has touched the ground.
[568]
We take a picture of that one.
[571]
So the next buyer will know.
[575]
Did you hit something with the inside of the rim?
[578]
The inside?
[579]
How can this happen?
[581]
A curb, maybe.
[582]
This one is perfectly fine.
[584]
Yes.
[589]
Have the rims been coated?
[591]
Yes.
[592]
Or maybe they.....that´s not caused by a curb.
[597]
I'm surprised.
[599]
Did they take off the tires for the paint job?
[603]
Yes.
[604]
They were completely painted.
[607]
Could this have been caused by that machine they are using?
[610]
It is possible.
[613]
How do you charge this one?
[615]
I have to charge 120 € Smart-Repair.
[619]
There you see it again. Whatever the cause, it's a mystery to me.
[624]
My guess is that it was the machine used to mount the tyres.
[630]
Then ste damage has been caused after the painting.
[633]
Could be that the machine used to much pressure and took of the coating.
[639]
Because the damage goes completely around the rim. A curb damage wouldn't be all around.
[646]
Then we have also finished the check from below.
[649]
But all other rims were perfectly fine?
[651]
Yes.
[654]
All in best condition besides one of them.
[659]
Did you ever have a case where a car came back in extremely bad condition?
[667]
Not yet. The vehicles here are always in good condition. But we serve other car dealerships. There are leasing returns...
[677]
...I always say too bad for that car.
[680]
There are people who take care of their car and there are people for whom a car is just a commodity with which they get from a to b.
[686]
In such cases we have to determine many damages and the return takes a very long time.
[693]
Would you charge cleaning the car if it was extremely dirty?
[698]
We may then charge for an interior cleaning. If it is a smokers vehicle, we may charge for ozone treatment to remove the smell.
[704]
Or to remove mould spores to not endanger health.
[709]
We would document everything and the customer would then be fully charged for a certain amount.
[716]
I remember this. I used to work in a car dealership and some year-old cars came back extremely dirty. I would have been ashamed to return a car in such a condition.
[728]
After we have inspected all damages we do a paint measurement to check if the car has been repainted.
[733]
How can you make a paint layer measurement on a wrapped car?
[740]
We have certain tolerance ranges and check whether the vehicle has the same measures all around.
[747]
In your case it would be approx. 250-300 µ with the wrapping.
[751]
If we then had a value of 700-800 µ on a side part, that would have been the prove of filling and repainting.
[760]
That would be a pre-damage with repainting that a customer has to state.
[767]
Such a thing cannot be hidden because we can measure it.
[769]
Which parts are you measuring?
[771]
3 measurements per component is the regulation.
[774]
I personally measure at the edges, as a good painter can also cover up the other areas.
[782]
Thats for me to be sure, but the standard says 3 measurements per component.
[786]
That's what we'll do.
[802]
What's the average score now?
[805]
Between 200-260 µ.
[809]
That´s....wait...
[813]
There would be a larger deviation inn measures despite the wrapping if something had been repainted?
[819]
That's right, with a repainting it is about 100 µ more.
[824]
For cosmetic repairs, like when a scratch is repaired, you have about 100 µ more.
[839]
As soon as it was necessary to work with putty, we get far out of the tolerance range.
[845]
Are you ready?
[846]
I'm ready.
[847]
What do you think?
[848]
The car is in top condition.
[850]
The rear left rim has a damage. Unfortunately I cannot determine how it was caused.
[856]
It's a mystery to me.
[857]
Every valuer would like to examine such a vehicle. So you can start well in the evening or in the day.
[865]
There is nothing to complain about - great!
[868]
I always calculate with costs for a leasing return because certain things simply cannot be avoided.
[875]
Like in this case now, sometimes there are things where you don't know how they happened. But luckily, everything is manageable.
[883]
Thank you so much.
[884]
You're welcome.
[885]
Thanks for explaining everything to us on camera.
[890]
