[16]
Hey good morning guys, I'm Johnny owner plays the grass lawn care if you had any questions about pine straw I
[23]
Would attempt to give you the answers?
[26]
Welcome to pine straw 101 with blades of grass lawn care and enjoy
[42]
Okay, this is long needle pine straw
[46]
and we call it long needle because
[49]
see how long the needles are and
[53]
typically long needle pine straw is
[57]
Fresher is a light color pine straw, and it will last a lot longer than the average pine straw
[66]
The average pine straw is the one that you will purchase at the Home Depot or the one that you purchase for real real cheap
[74]
now
[76]
The difference is that this will last longer and the other one is called slash
[83]
slash is
[85]
Okay, how can I say this is one that freshly?
[89]
Dropped and it looks nice and pretty and slashes one has been sitting for a long time in the bottom
[95]
And the scraps the scraps of the pine straw, and that would typically last
[102]
Three to four months less than long needle pine straw now another question that I get is
[110]
How often should I replenish my pine straw, and it's just like mulch hardwood mulch mulch
[118]
It depends on the look that you want for your property
[121]
I would suggest every six months you put a like top coat of pine straw to make no real nice for you
[130]
another question that I get is
[132]
How much area does a bale of pine straw cover a build up a straw?
[138]
covers an average of a
[141]
hundred to two hundred and fifty square feet again it depends on who you get it from and
[147]
how
[150]
Compact the bale gets packed
[153]
okay, so there is no one specific answer now when it comes to slash again guys it depends on who you purchase it from and
[160]
How much?
[162]
Pine straw is compacted within that Bale
[167]
All right, let me show you what a bale of pine straw looks like
[174]
This is what it looks like
[178]
And it always have
[180]
Two pieces of twig wrapped around it and you just pull on this and we'll show you how it looks like
[188]
When we're actually installing the pine straw
[192]
Long needle pine straw is extremely more expensive because it lasts longer and everyone doesn't do long needle straw
[199]
You know only a handful of people actually do long needle because it's more expensive
[205]
We at blades of grass lawn care specialize in only long needle. That's it. We don't do
[211]
/no long needle on average
[214]
we install between 8,000 to 10,000 bales per year of
[219]
Long needle pine straw because again guys you're only as good as what people know
[224]
That you can do they do know we take a lot of pictures of our installation we show customers or bales
[230]
Prior to actually installing it because we want to reassure them that they're getting the best
[235]
pine straw all
[236]
available
[237]
another thing is I've
[240]
Turned a lot of our bulk delivery back because you have to inspect your pine straw
[246]
You know you get a lot of lonely upon straw from these guys and they have a lot of trash in it the goal is
[251]
To minimize the amount of trash and sorry pine straw because again you're only as good as your installation
[258]
We have guys we have companies and in locations and in residential customers that only
[264]
Call us every six months or once a year for pasture installation
[268]
We have a good working relationship with them because they know that we're gonna give them the best pine straw available everyone
[275]
Have pine straw when you when you initially initially build your house
[279]
That's what they put their put pine straw because it's inexpensive
[282]
It's available and it gives it a good look now when we first installed
[286]
It postural is usually nice and thick and fluffy and just keep in mind guys with time it
[293]
Condensed down and it packs and it minimizes the amount of weeds that you are you find
[299]
in your in your plant beds and
[301]
This past raw comes from a farm. It doesn't come off the regular pine trees that pine straw is dirty
[308]
It has a lot of leaves it has a lot of sticks cones this is
[313]
Shifted and clean so we can get the best installation possible all right guys. Let's get hot
[319]
Let's go to the installation. All right guys. Let me show you
[326]
This pine straw has been here for roughly
[331]
Six months
[333]
So that's what it looks like you're gonna fill the beds
[340]
And put straw all the way around
[344]
They're in there
[348]
And all the way around the bed
[362]
All in here
[365]
Here we're gonna try to just do a ban all the way around
[370]
not too deep
[376]
And in the back over here and over here
[383]
And the nice thing about pine straw guys you can put it on top of the leaves and everything would decompose together
[390]
And here we're gonna do probably just a front
[398]
And over here
[411]
All right so the first thing we'll do is put out the straw
[415]
Every five to ten feet and see if we have enough nails
[423]
All right, let's get hot
[427]
All right guys now we have all the the bales stage
[434]
And again, we stage them every five to ten feet
[441]
And I'm not gonna go all the way around but yeah, that's where you stage them
[449]
Part let's begin the process
[455]
This is Quest putting down some straw
[459]
Now always make sure that you put it underneath the plant underneath the shrub
[467]
While you blowing you'll blow the straw off the top
[470]
and
[471]
You can also use a rake to rake off the straw. I'm gonna pop of the plant
[475]
That stifles the top of the plant eventually it's gonna
[479]
Go in between the flower plain or whatever, but it gives it a prettier parents now if you notice here
[487]
He's putting it
[489]
six or seven inches
[490]
beyond the border
[493]
Okay, six, or seven inches the border
[496]
And what that is for is for when we're blowing we can blow it on there and tuck it and give it that nice
[504]
pretty effect
[506]
like this
[509]
See
[511]
So again when you start your strong and give it a six or seven inches like so
[521]
Look here it is and here's the border all over here, so why are you tucking it? It's gonna look nice and pretty for you
[538]
I listen to you
