What Is Zwift Workout Mode? - YouTube

Channel: Global Cycling Network

[0]
more and more of us attain to Swift to
[3]
get our riding fixed either Berk is
[5]
rotting outside isn't an appealing
[7]
option or the efficiency of indoor
[9]
training just makes the most sense well
[11]
let you fare for a lot of you you just
[13]
do it because you love it an aspect of
[15]
zwip that is less well known though is
[17]
workouts which is structured training
[19]
sessions that you follow whilst riding
[22]
in one of swift virtual world so you run
[24]
long to a specific training session with
[27]
a goal in mind while looking at
[29]
something motivating and interactive now
[33]
I'm going to explain a little bit more
[34]
in a moment and then I also get to tell
[38]
you about the exclusive GCN training
[41]
sessions that are on here as well but
[45]
how do you find workouts well assume
[48]
you're familiar with Swift when you get
[49]
your home screen so having already
[51]
paired your trainer and your parameter
[53]
whatever else you simply click select
[56]
workout which is quite straightforward
[60]
from the workout menu you can see that
[62]
you've got loads of different workouts
[64]
to choose from and indeed actual
[67]
training plans as well each workout has
[70]
a description so you can see what's in
[72]
store for you and then once you've found
[74]
the one that you want to do you then
[76]
need to set your FTP so that your
[79]
functional threshold power to make sure
[81]
that the workout is then tailored
[83]
specifically to you that might be a
[86]
little bit ambitious I'm not going to
[88]
like if you don't know your FTP then
[90]
probably your first port of call should
[92]
be an FTP test which I love it is a
[94]
particularly brutal place to start so
[96]
what you might rather do actually is
[98]
enter is with race which should get you
[100]
going hard enough for long enough to
[102]
give you an indicator of your FTP and
[105]
whilst we're talking about threshold
[106]
power it's definitely worth mentioning
[108]
again that you should regularly test
[110]
yourself maybe every six weeks or so
[112]
firstly so that you can actually see
[114]
whether your training is making you
[116]
fitter and then also want you to make
[118]
sure that each workout tailored to your
[120]
current standard workouts are definite
[123]
at their best using a smart trainer so
[125]
that's one that can vary the resistance
[127]
that you feel automatically and it can
[129]
also leave something really quite clever
[131]
if you switch on herb mode it
[133]
we'll keep you at a set wattage
[135]
regardless of your cadence so that's
[137]
perfect if you're really really keen on
[140]
doing the workout as accurately as
[141]
possible but having said that a smart
[144]
trainer is by no means essential to get
[146]
you going and more in fact is a
[147]
parameter just as long as that you make
[149]
sure we use the same equipment each time
[151]
you do a workout then you can still
[153]
compare workouts over time and track
[156]
that performance once you pick the
[158]
workout that you want to do and I seem
[161]
to have chosen the ringer for some
[162]
reason that everything you need to know
[164]
about the session is on screen in front
[166]
of you including a little arch over the
[168]
rows that signifies the start and also
[171]
then the end of each interval so that's
[173]
perfect if you're hanging on desperately
[175]
trying to complete your reps if you
[178]
complete that rep well by the way you
[180]
actually get given a gold star which
[182]
apparently you can help move up those
[185]
risk level for added motivation you can
[188]
see on the left-hand side of screen all
[190]
my intervals and there's a lot of them
[193]
on this one are all lined up including
[195]
both the length and also the target
[198]
power I've got to hold for each one and
[200]
then the central panel shows me their
[203]
watches that I'm doing versus the target
[205]
wattage and also my cadence and my heart
[208]
rate as well right once it's been left
[212]
on my warmup I'm going to do 7 140 was
[215]
for 30 seconds
[220]
it's also a tool to create your own
[222]
custom workouts if you don't find quite
[224]
what you're looking for or indeed your
[226]
coach has prescribed you something
[228]
specific so you can either import it
[230]
directly into Swift workouts or using
[233]
this cool little tool you can drag and
[235]
drop to build your own now this one
[238]
admittedly might be a little bit
[240]
difficult so I'm going to create it with
[242]
math in mind so that's ten minutes of
[246]
zone six followed by five minutes
[248]
recovery at zone five another six
[251]
minutes at zone six
[253]
click love it this is right this tree so
[257]
what about those GCN workouts then well
[259]
we are particularly excited about this
[260]
we've created four month-long training
[263]
plans each one designed to improve a
[265]
specific area of your Rider so Dan's one
[268]
first up is designed to help make you
[271]
ride faster on flat roads so whether you
[274]
are a ruler or a budding Time Trial list
[277]
this one is going to help build the
[278]
fitness and also technique involved in
[281]
that specific area then next up is mine
[284]
so February in a time when many of us
[287]
are looking to start racing for the
[289]
first time this year so here at eight
[291]
sessions they're going to help you
[292]
transition from training right through
[295]
to racing or it's really started racing
[297]
each one is going to help build a
[298]
specific areas that you need to be good
[301]
at if you want to race successfully then
[304]
now you might be doing the spring
[306]
classics but being able to ride up steep
[308]
climbs is probably something that's
[310]
really quite important for most of us
[312]
out there Matt particularly wanted to
[314]
work on this so here you got eight
[316]
sessions to do over the course of a
[317]
month that are going to help you work
[319]
harder and be better at steep climbs and
[323]
then last but not least Tom now Tom out
[326]
of all of us probably had the most
[328]
talent at sprinting which isn't saying
[329]
all that much because Matt Dunn and I
[331]
were rubbish
[332]
but anyway Tom really wanted to build on
[334]
that so he's got eight sessions here
[336]
that are designed to build peach power
[339]
just like the rest of us are gonna be
[341]
signing up for that make sure you let us
[344]
know which of these training plans
[346]
you're going to embark on and indeed how
[348]
you actually get on because we will be
[350]
really interested to know so let us know
[352]
in the comments section we'll be keeping
[353]
a close eye on that before leaving this
[356]
video to make sure well first you
[357]
subscribe to GCN to do it just click on
[360]
the globe it's completely free and then
[362]
if you're after more content right now
[364]
if you click just up there then you get
[366]
su video about behind the scenes app
[369]
Swift and meeting the people and the
[371]
place where all this is actually work
[373]
from and then indeed if you want to see
[375]
our latest as with race here on GCN
[378]
where I lined up and then got my ass
[380]
completely worked click just down there
[382]
towards that one
