Cash App vs Venmo: Here's the winner! - YouTube

Channel: Smart Family Money

[0]
Cash App and Venmo are pretty similar apps聽 that you can send money back and forth with聽聽
[4]
all your friends and family. I'll let you know聽 all the differences and which one I think you聽聽
[8]
should get. First up, let's go through all the聽 things that are similar between these two apps.聽聽
[11]
Both Venmo and Cash App let you send money back聽 and forth with friends and family very easily聽聽
[16]
for free. Both allow you to connect a debit card聽 or a bank account and with both you can send money聽聽
[22]
to your bank account. It takes one to three days.聽 Both also allow you to do instant transfers out聽聽
[27]
for a fee with a debit card. With both of them,聽 you can buy cryptocurrency. Both of them can also聽聽
[33]
be turned into business accounts which I think聽 means a lot of businesses are probably going to be聽聽
[37]
joining both of these platforms soon. I was also聽 surprised that both can be used from a computer,聽聽
[42]
not just from a phone. You can see all of your聽 transactions and you can send money to other聽聽
[47]
people. With both you can find other people聽 using their email address, their phone number,聽聽
[51]
or their username. On Cash App it's聽 called a cash tag and starts with a $.聽聽
[56]
On Venmo it's called a username and starts with an聽 @ sign. The fee structures are pretty similar on聽聽
[61]
both. Most things you're going to do are going to聽 be free: sending money back and forth to friends,聽聽
[65]
withdrawing to a bank account, adding with a聽 debit card. The most common thing that has a fee聽聽
[69]
on both is an instant withdrawal to a debit card.聽 If you're worried about safety and security, both聽聽
[74]
are owned by very reputable companies. Venmo聽 is owned by Paypal and Cash App is owned by聽聽
[79]
Square. You've probably seen Square at many small聽 businesses as their way to pay with credit cards聽聽
[84]
in the store. They're a really big company.聽 All right so let's get into the differences.聽聽
[88]
One difference you'll notice in the app is聽 that Venmo is set up like a social platform聽聽
[92]
and you can see the transactions that other people聽 have done. You can't see how much money they sent聽聽
[96]
to each other, but you'll see little notes about聽 what the money was for and who sent money to who.聽聽
[102]
A lot of people like to make funny jokes with this聽 and put all kinds of silly things in their notes聽聽
[106]
about what the money was for. If you do not want聽 your transactions to show up in the social feed,聽聽
[111]
you can set them to all be private by default.聽 Venmo can also connect with your Facebook account聽聽
[116]
to pull your friends in from there. Cash App you聽 can only connect to your phone contacts. Venmo is聽聽
[122]
also known for having a larger network of people聽 on the app, but I think Cash App is catching up.聽聽
[127]
Both Cash App and Venmo offer a debit card that聽 you can use with your account. Venmo offers聽聽
[132]
a bunch of colors to choose from. I've never had聽 a purple debit card before so that's kind of fun.聽聽
[137]
For their Venmo debit cards, they have some聽 cashback offers, so these are at different聽聽
[142]
stores that you might use your debit card at and聽 you can get some money back on your account. Venmo聽聽
[146]
does also have a credit card option and Cash App聽 does not have a credit card that goes with it.聽聽
[151]
Venmo also has an option for cashing a check聽 directly in your account which is really nice.聽聽
[156]
Cash App doesn't have that yet but I've heard聽 that feature is coming to Cash App soon. One聽聽
[160]
difference on the fees is that you can use the聽 Venmo debit card at an ATM for free in their聽聽
[165]
network of ATMs. It is $2.50 for an out of network聽 ATM but with Cash App, every ATM is two dollars.聽聽
[173]
All right, so let's talk about some of the pros聽 of Cash App. One is the age limit. For Venmo,聽聽
[177]
you must be 18 years old. With Cash App, you can聽 get an account and a card if you are 13 and up聽聽
[184]
with a parent. The Cash App debit card is聽 much more customizable than the Venmo one.聽聽
[189]
There are only three colors to choose from but聽 you can add emojis and you can even draw on it聽聽
[195]
yourself so you can write your signature on it聽 or your own drawing and have that printed on聽聽
[199]
your card. It does have to be approved though so聽 it can't be anything rude. The Cash App debit card聽聽
[205]
does have a nice feature called boosts. These are聽 a little bit like the cashback offers with Venmo聽聽
[210]
but I found the boost to be really pretty good,聽 so they're like a discount off different kinds of聽聽
[215]
things. It might be a particular store or it聽 might be a category of things like fast food聽聽
[220]
or grocery stores. You can only add one boost at a聽 time onto your card and that'll be the one that's聽聽
[226]
active at the moment. One nice feature that Cash聽 App has that Venmo doesn't is that you can add聽聽
[230]
paper cash to your account. I'm gonna make a聽 separate video about how that works but you聽聽
[235]
can deposit cash at stores nearby. If you haven't聽 tried Cash App yet, I'm gonna include my referral聽聽
[240]
link down below and if you sign up with that聽 link and you set up an account with a debit card聽聽
[246]
send somebody five dollars... it could be anybody聽 it doesn't have to be me or anything. Then you聽聽
[250]
will get a five-dollar bonus on your account so聽 please use my referral code if you want to try聽聽
[254]
out Cash App. It has some really nice features.聽 So which one of these two do I think wins? Well,聽聽
[259]
as you can see, I have both of them and I have聽 both of them partly because I just want to have聽聽
[264]
whichever one people want to use. Both are free,聽 so why not? So if I'm sending money to a friend or聽聽
[271]
buying something off of Facebook marketplace,聽 I have whichever one the person wants to use.聽聽
[275]
It's just easy that way, but if I had to choose聽 just one which one would I pick? I'd pick Venmo.聽聽
[281]
And the reason is because pretty much everyone I聽 know already uses Venmo so they do seem to have聽聽
[287]
a larger network of people and if the main point聽 is to send money back and forth with other people,聽聽
[291]
I want the one that has more people on it. But聽 like I said, I think maybe Cash App is catching聽聽
[296]
up and now that cash hub is allowing people聽 as young as 13 on their platform, I wonder if聽聽
[301]
that's gonna raise the number of users they have,聽 so my opinion might change on this one. Which one聽聽
[306]
do you like better? I'd love to hear about it聽 in the comments below. Do you have both or do聽聽
[310]
you have just one? Next up, check out that video聽 about how to put cash on your Cash App account.
