[2]
yes floatation therapy really just gives
[9]
your body in your brain a chance to
[11]
decompress the hardest thing to do in
[13]
there is to be comfortable being alone
[16]
with being by yourself and once you can
[18]
do that you can do anything have you
[19]
ever heard of a sensory deprivation or
[21]
floatation tank I've heard that they
[23]
come with a myriad of health benefits so
[25]
I went to check them out for myself the
[26]
water itself is only 10 inches deep but
[29]
it is slippery there just be very
[30]
careful when you step inside don't be
[32]
afraid to use the handles if you need
[34]
them push the button if you need me all
[39]
right so I just got my instructions on
[41]
what I'm gonna do this flotation pod
[43]
really exciting this is my first time
[45]
and I am sore from the gym I am a little
[48]
stressed out because I have five million
[49]
things going on I'm gonna shower right
[51]
now and we're gonna get started
[55]
and so begins my floatation experiments
[61]
we're supposed to I have my panic button
[65]
in case some people come in here trying
[66]
to rob me I got my leg button and I got
[69]
my music button can't play the music
[71]
because of copyright YouTube sorry and I
[75]
have my emergency eyewash solution in
[76]
case I get assaulted my
[80]
[Music]
[96]
we'll never have the same you know
[100]
benefit from it it's always different
[102]
everybody's is unique whether for some
[104]
people it's emotional for some people
[105]
it's mental for some people it's
[107]
physical
[108]
[Music]
[122]
I definitely saw some others then I
[132]
started were saying that I did see stars
[136]
and I was like flying to the Stars other
[138]
prettier is he
[139]
you do feel emotion initially just kind
[144]
of crazy cuz you're not moving I
[147]
understand why a strong obsession see
[149]
his senses even fully fully relax
[151]
sometimes I caught myself being tense is
[154]
yeah I'm a new person
[165]
leave it in our briefs you know like I'm
[169]
less tit and I caught myself tensing up
[172]
in the middle of it yeah I thought about
[173]
something too exciting yeah there's a
[175]
learning curve there yeah thanks a lot
[177]
three sessions so you really get skilled
[179]
at being a good floater and then you can
[181]
go deeper and deeper and relax more and
[182]
more yeah so there's a lot of health
[184]
claims being made surrounding these
[185]
flotation tanks but let me first tell
[187]
you what I got out of it I definitely
[189]
felt more relaxed my muscles that were
[192]
tense after my workouts I played soccer
[194]
I did leg day definitely felt a little
[197]
bit more relaxed and at ease
[199]
I had a boost of creativity I think I'm
[202]
pretty much the epitome of a stressed
[204]
New Yorker I have like four different
[206]
jobs taking care of a new puppy
[209]
so I'm very wound up if you will and
[212]
going into this tank it allowed me to
[215]
sort of block out all that external
[217]
negative stimuli and really focus on
[220]
what was important to me so I thought
[221]
about bear I thought about my dad I also
[225]
thought about this YouTube channel and
[226]
what ideas I have for the future and
[228]
that brainstorming session was
[231]
incredibly productive as a good doctor
[233]
I've said this before you have to be a
[234]
good skeptic but it's important to not
[236]
disbelieve everything you hear because
[239]
sometimes there's truth and a lot of
[240]
what we call alternative medicine there
[243]
have been some meta-analysis done on
[245]
this and meta-analysis again just to
[247]
remind you is a combination it's a
[249]
grouping of studies to reduce the
[251]
likelihood of bias and improve the
[253]
results that meta-analysis that specific
[256]
one that I looked at really showed that
[258]
the studies that were done
[260]
were really poor quality they were small
[262]
they aren't reproducible so the evidence
[266]
behind all of these theories is very
[268]
weak now that being said does it mean
[271]
that going to floatation therapy won't
[273]
help you relax won't decrease some of
[275]
your anxiety and depression it likely
[277]
will is it a life-changing breakthrough
[280]
treatment that's gonna solve all your
[281]
problems no is it gonna reset your
[283]
circadian rhythm and allow you to sleep
[285]
better probably not here's what I'm not
[287]
a fan of I'm not a fan of over-promising
[293]
patients results so we can talk about
[296]
the benefits of meditation we can talk
[298]
about the benefits of taking it an hour
[300]
away from your phone from your busy life
[302]
and laying in a quiet room floating
[304]
enjoying those health benefits but to
[306]
say that you're gonna reset your
[308]
circadian rhythm improve your immune
[309]
system those are lofty promises and it's
[312]
not good to set lofty expectations for
[314]
your patients put your body into a
[316]
meditative relaxing state that you
[319]
cannot achieve practicing meditation for
[321]
20 years
[322]
all the benefits you get from that or
[324]
well researched and well proven and the
[327]
best way to do it is doing it in a float
[329]
session things that you should keep in
[331]
mind always check out who the main
[333]
person is that's running the center find
[336]
out what their credentials are make sure
[338]
that if you see the word doctor that
[340]
you're finding out what kind of doctor
[341]
they are are they chiropractors are they
[343]
PhDs are they MDS or dio's also a lot of
[347]
these flotation centers and chill space
[349]
is not excluded from this they make
[352]
lofty promises with some of their
[353]
treatments and it's important to not
[355]
fall in and believe all these promises
[357]
you'll also see on some of the walls a
[359]
ton of supplements that carry their own
[361]
promises and you know my feelings on
[364]
supplements if it's not proven it's
[366]
garbage in my mind it's not because I'm
[368]
a doctor and I want to be a slave to the
[370]
pharmaceutical industry no it's because
[372]
before I give you something before I
[375]
make an impact on your life I want to
[377]
make sure it's safe and it works because
[380]
my job is to first do no harm and the
[383]
only way I can do that is if the
[384]
treatment is proven I have to give a
[386]
huge shout out to chill space NYC for
[389]
letting us use their floatation tank for
[391]
allowing us to film they're being very
[393]
kind with their interviews the founder
[394]
even came out and gave us a blurb about
[396]
what floatation therapy is all about so
[398]
thank you for that as always guys stay
[400]
happy and healthy
