Robinhood IPO Aftermath l What Happened on July 28th? Technical Analysis Overview for $HOOD - YouTube

Channel: Invest Global

[0]
welcome back to invest global today
[2]
we're discussing the robin hood ipo what
[4]
exactly
[5]
went on i actually first recorded this
[6]
video yesterday on the train
[8]
from prague and czech republic to here
[10]
in bratislava slovakia
[12]
but had some issues with the train wi-fi
[15]
so the video is recorded but it's not
[17]
able to
[18]
actually download so i'm redoing this
[20]
here with my setup in
[21]
slovakia so basically what we saw here
[23]
the reason that i use this chart
[25]
here on ftx is you can essentially trade
[28]
ipos early which is quite interesting
[29]
you know
[30]
in the crypto space we have ido's
[31]
initial dex offerings which have
[33]
actually done a full series on all the
[34]
different launch pads through all the
[36]
different blockchain networks
[37]
and going through okay how you can
[39]
access early stage altcoins now
[40]
if you're interested in accessing a
[42]
company before
[44]
they have all this kind of mass adoption
[45]
and they're listed on the public market
[47]
for a very very long time
[48]
that's ipos right so initial public
[50]
offerings allow you to do that
[51]
obviously some people can get in early
[53]
before the ipo
[55]
and some people can trade it early with
[56]
synthetic assets on something like ftx
[58]
so
[59]
a comparable to this would be coinbase
[61]
stock right so
[62]
coinbase had their ipo you can tell
[64]
right when they had their ipo
[65]
it was this massive massive dump on
[67]
april 14th i mean that candle
[69]
is massive let's just let's uh just draw
[71]
this out as far as
[72]
you know because i'm honestly thinking
[73]
about some of these ipos that are traded
[75]
as synthetic assets to actually do a
[77]
short position on ftx
[78]
now you have to be very very careful
[79]
with this know what you're doing but
[81]
this is the trend i mean we see this
[83]
typically people over hype something
[84]
they overvalue something in the short
[86]
term
[87]
and they really undervalue things in the
[89]
long term you know i think
[90]
bill gates has a whether or not you like
[92]
bill gates you know that he's kind of a
[93]
controversial guy you know
[94]
i always like to apply what abraham
[96]
lincoln says which is learn from
[97]
everybody even if it's what not to do so
[99]
even if
[100]
you know you you don't want to do what
[101]
bill gates does still try and learn from
[103]
them
[103]
so what he says is you know i think we
[105]
we greatly
[107]
overestimate what we can do in a day or
[109]
a week but we greatly underestimate what
[111]
we can do in a year to two years
[113]
so this is massively true right this
[115]
kind of the the cognitive dissonance
[116]
that humans have
[117]
where they they kind of favor the short
[119]
term you know they're much more
[120]
epicureans
[121]
versus stoics right so stoics are much
[123]
more you know they're they're focusing
[124]
on long-term epicureans are just
[126]
short-term pleasure
[127]
and you can see this playing out in the
[129]
markets right this is a great example of
[130]
it with technical analysis right so
[132]
people kind of hype this up gets hyped
[134]
up hyped up hype oh hyper
[136]
pipe big dump right so then it returns
[139]
back down to
[140]
fair evaluations and you know i talked
[142]
about this with this coinbase ipo i was
[143]
in uh it was
[144]
somewhere in turkey i can't remember i
[145]
was kind of driving around like southern
[146]
turkey near the border of syria
[148]
how basically you know i i was not going
[150]
to participate in this because
[152]
there was many other place besides the
[153]
coinbase ipo that i thought were
[155]
interesting and
[156]
same here with robin hood ipo i did not
[157]
personally participate in this
[159]
you saw essentially once this synthetic
[161]
asset play
[162]
hits the ftx market it got significantly
[164]
devalued
[165]
kind of traded sideways for a bit and
[167]
then right here if we zoom in by the way
[168]
we're on the one hour chart here because
[169]
this
[170]
is it just ipo two days ago so
[172]
essentially i pee out on the 28th
[174]
so you can see at the beginning of the
[175]
20th let's go right here so
[178]
this is kind of that waterfall cascading
[179]
effect we dip down here
[181]
from what we uh we kind of middle of the
[183]
bollinger bands at 47
[185]
dipped down to that 40 mark then back up
[187]
to 44 kind of
[188]
hitting that mid-range and then a
[190]
further cascade down right and now we're
[192]
just kind of moving sideways so i'm
[194]
curious what you guys think about the
[195]
robin hood ipo
[196]
in general just some very very basic
[197]
fundamentals of this company that i like
[199]
to take into account
[200]
sergeant 2013 is really focusing on
[202]
being a fintech platform
[203]
that kind of gamifies the stock market
[205]
now i'm not the biggest fan of this i
[206]
kind of more like long-term investments
[208]
again being more of a stoic
[209]
i think robin hood kind of optimizes for
[211]
epicureans in a way
[212]
um courts also had a decent article on
[214]
this or a little briefing on this so
[217]
robinhood ipo sputtered
[218]
shares of the brokerage app start
[219]
trading at after its public offering
[221]
value the company yesterday at 32
[223]
billion they were actually hoping
[224]
for 35 billion valuations that was kind
[226]
of the goal but
[227]
obviously it's not going to make it
[228]
there i think in the long run it will
[230]
probably make it there to be quite
[231]
honest with you
[232]
um this was lower than expectations
[234]
clearly but a couple of things you know
[235]
vlad the ceo
[237]
of robin hood had kind of was in the
[240]
limelight
[241]
when all this robin hood amc stuff went
[243]
on i was in kosovo when all this
[244]
happened i remember i made a couple of
[245]
videos on it so it was just fascinating
[247]
i wasn't participating
[248]
in any of this uh amc uh what do you
[251]
call what was the other one
[252]
john blanken i just said it uh oh
[254]
gamestop uh
[256]
stock listings but i mean it's it's kind
[259]
of insane honestly what went on there
[260]
but
[261]
basically you know in my view robin hood
[264]
kind of showed the true colors here
[265]
right so because when they were put
[266]
under pressure they sided with the big
[268]
guy they sided with the institutions
[269]
they did not
[270]
side with uh with the little guy and i
[273]
think that's the most important thing to
[274]
understand here
[275]
is robin hood maybe kind of behind the
[277]
times of this little bit
[278]
you know they they allow people to
[279]
purchase crypto but the problem that i
[281]
see again is it's like
[282]
okay people turn 18 maybe they start the
[284]
robinhood account maybe they're okay
[285]
great they want to get into investing
[286]
but they don't understand crypto
[288]
fundamentally they don't understand that
[289]
hey if you're buying it
[290]
through robinhood that's not your crypto
[292]
there's a massive massive
[294]
counterparty risk you need to own your
[295]
own keys you need to have it in your own
[297]
private wallet
[298]
not have it with coinbase not have it
[300]
you know on any exchange especially
[302]
robinhood it's not even a crypto
[303]
exchange right they're focused more on
[304]
stocks
[305]
so that's basically my thoughts on the
[307]
uh the robin hood
[308]
ipo maybe we'll cover this a bit more
[310]
moving forward i'm curious what you guys
[312]
think about this
[313]
again i think potentially that this is
[315]
these are some opportunities to do
[316]
short positions uh on ftx when these
[319]
ipos happen i mean this was pretty
[320]
massive short position
[321]
same with this kind of like you could
[323]
maybe even do a short
[325]
right up to the day before because i
[327]
mean that was a massive massive downfall
[328]
but it all depends on the company right
[330]
it depends on what's going on i
[331]
personally think you know these fintech
[332]
companies are a bit overvalued overall
[334]
especially when i'm looking at emerging
[335]
market equities currently here in
[336]
slovakia and poland
[338]
different places around europe um a lot
[340]
of these companies in the us are
[341]
ridiculously overvalued so
[343]
that's basically all for this video if
