5 Proven Ways to Get Better Gas Mileage in Your Car - YouTube
Channel: Scotty Kilmer
[0]
rev up your engines,
duh face says Scotty my car consumes
[6]
much more gas than it did in the past
though there's nothing
[9]
wrong with it, what could possibly be the
reasons, okay simple things first, change
[14]
your air filter, change your fuel filter,
change the spark plugs, have a guy
[18]
professionally clean your fuel injectors
if that doesn't help, because we have
[22]
pressure machines that can clean the
fuel injectors, dirty fuel injectors will
[25]
do that, now there is stuff you can clean
yourself, I have a video called make your
[29]
car run better with this little spray
cleaner watch that and you can get two cans
[32]
of spray cleaner for about fourteen
bucks total, you can clean the throttle
[36]
you can clean the mass airflow sensor
you can do all that stuff, and a lot of
[39]
times that'll fix it, cuz things do get
dirty over time and with modern cars being
[44]
and all computer run, a lot of people
just keep driving them cuz they still
[47]
run good but they'll get a little bit
worse gas mileage because things are
[51]
dirty and they need cleaning, joe says Scotty
what do you think about running amsoil
[54]
signature oil for 20,000 miles or one year,
the one year I don't mind but
[59]
I wouldn't push it to twenty thousand
miles, I got a whole video on that the
[63]
myth the twenty thousand mile changing
and it talked about that new mobile one one
[67]
that they said you could last 20,000
miles, unless you're like a truck driver
[71]
and you're driving 65 miles an hour for
12 hours a day, and that twenty thousand
[75]
miles is all highway driving in a year
or less don't do it, if you drive on a
[80]
highway at 65 miles an hour, the wear
on your engine oil it's like 10% of what it
[85]
is in the City stop and go traffic, 20,000
miles on a highway going 65, it's
[90]
equivalent to like 2,000 miles in the
city, so it's no big deal, but don't do it
[94]
with stop and go city driving it's not
worth it, I don't care what the engineers
[98]
say here or there, and most cars are
gonna burn oil at that kind of mileage,
[101]
you don't want to wear an engine out for
something dumb like that, but once a year
[105]
if you drive less than 10,000 miles go
right ahead, Ag says what do you think
[108]
about a 2015 Audi a8 with v6 3.0
supercharged engine, I just bought one
[114]
and I love it, yeah they're fun to drive
that thing is zippy as can be, but get a
[119]
hold of me in five or six years if you
still have the car cuz you'll probably
[123]
hate it then, every customer that I had buy
one of those things if they put any
[127]
serious amount of mileage on it, 80-90
thousand more miles, they threw so much
[133]
money into those vehicles and then when
they tried to sell them used, they found
[137]
out that
seven eight-year-old one went for almost
[140]
nothing because of that, but they are fun
to drive I'll give them that, the Germans
[144]
have interesting technology you know they
make top-of-the-line stuff in the short run
[150]
Leo merino 6 5 4 2 1 3 there must be a
lot of Leo Marino's out there, Scotty
[155]
I'm 16 and I'm getting my driver's license
soon, I want to buy a 1993 toyota celica
[160]
GT 5-speed manual so I can learn how to
drive, I want to keep it on weekends
[164]
what do you think, not a bad idea my
son's got one of those things for 500
[168]
bucks ages ago, because one of my
customers loaned hers to her daughter
[172]
who was not exactly someone who took
care of vehicles, she drove over a
[176]
manhole cover during a flood and the
water came shooting out, flooded it out and
[180]
sucked
water and blew the engine, so I bought it
[182]
for 500 and bought a engine for 400 put it
in and
[186]
he drives it around, they are very good
cars but you have to understand it's a
[190]
93, a 27 year old car man that's an old car,
so don't pay much for it and see how
[195]
much work it needs before you buy one,
make sure it runs and shifts and
[199]
everything, body stuff you can always fix,
but if the engine of transmission is going
[202]
out
you don't want to mess with it, Canadian
[204]
Frost says Scotty got a 1973 VW Super Beetle
it's stuck in gear any easy fixes, what
[210]
you want to do is jack it up in the air, get
to the transmission and shifter linkage
[214]
and try to manually pull it so
you can get at least a neutral, if you
[219]
can't even move it then, the
transmission is shot and you're gonna have
[222]
to take it apart and rebuild it, they do
break when their that old, but a lot of
[226]
times the linkages stick, if you can
manually get it going in neutral, then
[231]
check all your shifter linkage
something's probably broken, the
[234]
bushings or it's rusted up or something
like that, they do have a lot of fixable
[238]
adjustable stuff on those old ones
compared to the new ones that generally
[242]
when they get stuck in gear they're shot
Assad says Scotty
[245]
thanks for all your great content and
expertise sharing, what do you think about
[248]
Renault cars, well Renault
pulled out of the United States
[251]
decades ago, I used to work on them when I
was a middle age mechanic, I had customers
[255]
with them and they were ok cars but
you couldn't get parts for them in United
[259]
States, and most people didn't know how
to work on them, so that's one of the
[263]
reasons they pulled out of the United
States,
[265]
now Renault is one of the largest
companies in the world now they keep
[268]
buying things, they own Nissan their buying
other companies, I got back from
[271]
England last year, they drive them and they
get
[273]
hundreds of thousands of miles from the
people that I talked too so, if you live in
[276]
Europe might not be a bad idea, but in
the United States no, their too hard to
[282]
get parts for and mechanics don't know how
to work on the things, so if you never
[286]
want to miss another one of my new car
repair videos, remember to ring that Bell!
