Hello and welcome in this new video about the MPC One and why the MPC One is ACE !

today, a special episode because we will stop on my MPC adventure

that has been going on for a while. Indeed, a big user of MPC, I especially

loved my all pimped 1000, equipped with the JJOS

2XL, an alternative Operating System developed for several types of MPC.

making them more easy and fun to use A good part of my discography was made on MPC

and mixed on a Midas Venice, before the acquisition of Midas

by Bérhi, the beginning of the end for Midas: RIP.

So I have a special feeling when it comes to the Mpc, it's a bit like the family :)

But that was before, I ended up dropping my 1000, which was super pretty, bright red and black

to switch to Push2.A mistake.

So after shamelessly selling my Push2, I jumped on the "news" MPC, "to see".

Honestly, I thought it was sleight of hand, all these functions, this big touch screen...

But I was going to try. Bingo, today, the MPC One appears in this magnificent series

"The Keepers" of the no less magnificent Audiorial channel! That is to say how it conquered me!

So why? What makes me even more of a fan of these new models than the old ones ?

Let's see this together. First of all, let's talk about the positive points, and there are many of them, so we're

not going to go into too much detail. Note that the different items are not arranged in any order.

- The first point is that coming from the JJOS world, I noticed that at AKAI we were

inspired by these alternative firmwares, to keep the good sides. I know it may

sound hollow as a saying, for those who don't know the old Mpcs, but believe

me, the JJOS was really day and night compared to the native OSes of the old MPCs. Good job!

- The second point is the interface of the One: we have a lot of controls accessible

directly on the front or via a double click. It doesn't sound like anything, but given the staggering number of functions, they really

had to get their brains fried at Akai, I guess.

In this regard, it should be noted that the One offers more control on the front than

the live and live2 which costs much more! - The 3rd point is the screen,

here we have a large and hyper stable, the size of the screen allows to see very clearly.

In addition, the tree structure of functions accessible by a touch is funny well thought out, once again, especially when we put it in front

- The 4th point that in the end is the most important (that's why people work on MPC)

is that we do without a computer on the whole process: From the creation of a beast turns,

to a totally finished and premastered piece. All these steps can now be carried out in the MPC, thanks in particular to the many

integrated plug-ins, and we will come back to this later. - The 5th point even more crucial is the sampling, which has never been easier, on any sampler

ever released, including software solutions. It's truly the best of both worlds, without a doubt.

From the take to the editing, everything is super simple, and super fun, never bugs, or

does strange stuff that sometimes happens to samples (I think of BlackBox who did weird stuff

on my samples), here we work serenely and efficiently. The treatments that can be provided

are very very numerous and have nothing at all to envy to a solution around a computer.

In this regard, I have made several videoson sampling in the One.

I put you a playlist in the description. - The 6th point is the sequencers, the GRID mode and the old-fashioned sequencer mode.

The set when it is well understood allows

to go fast and far in detail, whether on the notes in the grid

or to manage the automations, accessible in both sequencers, grid and classic, congratulations and thank you!

- The 7th point is the number and quality of the plus-ins delivered, and especially

since the recent updates: instruments, certainly quite uneven, through the effects, almost

every aspect of music production is represented by one or more dedicated tools.

It can be said that for almost all, the quality is undeniable.

So we can even create whole songs without using a single sample!

The integrated drum machine is really huge,

The number and quality of the different percussions is extraordinary.

Several legendary synths are emulated with

varying degrees of success, but they give excellent results no matter what.

An offer so complete that it is really a studio in a box. Impressive.

- The 8th point is the support and possibilities reserved for the world of modular synthesis

(in Eurorack format however) with a well-supplied CV/Gate connection bay, we will find 8 CV/Gate

outputs spread over 4 connectors (dual therefore).

On the software side, the support is total,

we can even use several CV / Gate outputs per track, which makes it possible to make complete drum parts

on A single track: ultra well seen.

- The 9th point is the physical connections: we can power and use for example a master

keyboard, such as the Keystep Pro and at the same time connect an external hard drive,

for example, which is not nothing given the size of the internal disk, we will see this in the negative points.

The classic MIDI is also present, well seen and always useful to increase our set up.

We will find a pair of inputs to sample in 6.35 format, thank you!

And a pair of outputs in the same format. the CV/Gate sockets

Come on I could go on for hours with the positives,

but we're going to move on to the other side of the coin, the negatives,

as before, notnecessarily in order. - First of all, why this plastic, while

the old ones were made of metal? And in addition why THIS plastic, a little glossy, or the traces are very boring to eliminate,

and yet I am a fairly clean boy! In short, let's move on.

- The second negative point is the connector of the headphones, not only in 3.5 but especially

IN FRONT, so if we want to tilt the MPC (we all do that)we risk damaging the input.

the input will a priori not hold in time, except to use an angled jack, but well let's pass...

- The third negate point is the size of the internal drive, 4Gigas?

Seriously, 4 gigas? Even Charlemagne's computer had more than 4 gigas. It's ridiculous,

fortunately we have an SD card reader! So avoid saving your projects and others on the internal disk, it's better.

- The 4th point "cons" is the impossibility (well if but it's ULTRA heavy) to fire the

huge bank of samples / instruments delivered with the MPC, for me the samples are too treated

and sounds very pupute kind flashy and therefore totally

useless, especially, once again, given the RIDICULOUS size of the internal hard drive. Finally, in short, let's move on!

- The 5th point is still ultra complicated when, like me

we fired the samples delivered with internal disk, to put the MPC back out of the factory settings,

there is a file to download, but you have to make

the request and in my case the solutions proposed by Akai have all

proved to be a waste of time. Ok, it doesn't matter, let's pass!

- another negative point and it will be the last, it

is the lack of output "clock", we have 8 output CV/Gate but none for the clock, forcing

us to use tricks to achieve our ends.

In conclusion, you will have understood, this MPC One is a beast

of work, it offers absolutely all the tools necessary for music production at home.

The whole is ultra stable, you can really work in peace, so much the better.

If I am not mistaken the kernel is based on Linux and the result is really robust and pleasant.

The different sampling and editing tools allow you to create your own sounds in two seconds

while having fun. Although complex, the architecture and the hardware/software interfacing

is super well thought out and the number of controls available directly on the MPC is very very comfortable,

we go fast, we do not take the cabbage, we are happy, we smile :D

The quality of the accessible treatments is irreproachable, we can quite release a premaster

who will only ask for the mastering step, reserved for a pro in my case, before being

pressed, marketed or other. A real studio in a plastic box, at a price not crazy.
