Impossible Card Template & Tutorial - YouTube

Channel: Jennifer Maker

[0]
hello everybody welcome to the great
[3]
maker show-and-tell today I am going to
[9]
show you how to make what's popularly
[11]
known as the impossible card you may
[15]
have also heard of this referred to as a
[17]
hyper card an illusion card or a gap
[20]
card I call it a super easy pop-up card
[23]
but I'm guessing again it's impossible
[25]
name from the fact that it looks like it
[28]
would be impossible to make so if you
[30]
look at this closely you will see that
[33]
there is a gap up here and a gap down
[36]
here but neither one is big enough for
[38]
this piece of paper yet this is made
[41]
from one single piece of paper and you
[43]
know how it's done
[44]
so this is a bit of an illusion it's a
[47]
card with a twist
[48]
it starts out life as a piece of paper
[50]
like this with two cuts down the sides
[54]
either side one up the center and a
[57]
score line in the middle and then when
[59]
the paper flips around it forms this
[62]
crazy shape isn't that cool
[65]
see that cool so it now if you're
[67]
anything like me making cards is a great
[70]
way to use up all of your paper you have
[72]
a lot of paper to write right so I wield
[75]
over my paper tower of power to show you
[78]
this particular my particular solution
[80]
to storing paper so I made this myself
[82]
and there's a tutorial on my blog if you
[84]
would like to know how did I did it I
[86]
also keep my vinyl up here on a lazy
[88]
susan my Cricut tools are over here on
[91]
this side and on this side here are my
[96]
cans of spray paint and adhesive that I
[99]
keep in a shoe organizer I love
[101]
organizing my craft supplies can you
[103]
tell so and I'm not just going to use
[106]
the paper from the Tower of Power today
[108]
I want to talk about spray adhesive for
[111]
a moment okay
[112]
there's two different kinds of spray
[113]
adhesive there is the permanent stuff
[117]
and the repositionable stuff if you are
[120]
making cards you want the permanent
[122]
spray adhesive or otherwise the bits
[124]
that you stick on will fall off over
[126]
time so if you and you'll also need one
[129]
of these beauties this is ace
[133]
so it's just a box with you know the
[137]
sides taped up on one side down and the
[140]
way it works is you put your thing you
[142]
want to spray inside this box and you've
[145]
down at the bottom and then you spray
[147]
down like this so adhesive only goes
[150]
into the box nowhere else I have had
[153]
this put secure little spray box for two
[155]
years ever since started my blog okay so
[158]
back to the impossible card so some
[161]
people a lot of people like cut this
[163]
with scissors or a trimmer but my
[165]
readers asked if I would convert this
[166]
into a file that they could upload to a
[169]
cutting machine like a Cricut so I have
[171]
an effect it made several different
[173]
sizes and orientations all with various
[176]
overlays for them now the great thing
[179]
about using a cutting machine is that
[181]
the measurements aren't perfect every
[183]
time you don't have to worry about
[184]
something being off it than not folding
[186]
right of course I couldn't stop there I
[189]
designed a custom impossible card and as
[192]
I had many requests for a birthday card
[195]
I designed this fabulous a birthday
[199]
retro impossible card it's modeled after
[202]
the famous Las Vegas sign and I made
[205]
this for my dad who would have
[206]
celebrated his 75th birthday in a couple
[208]
of weeks if he'd still been with us
[211]
today
[211]
I love and miss you dad so now let me
[214]
show you exactly how to put this
[216]
particular impossible card together now
[219]
over on my blog at
[220]
jennifermcguireink.com where we have our
[241]
pieces that I cut out on my Cricut this
[244]
yellow piece here is the base of the
[246]
card and you see I've scored it and
[248]
flipped it right over just like I showed
[250]
you before you can flip it over the
[251]
other way if you want it's up to you
[254]
but what either way is the way that you
[256]
want it to be so for now we're going to
[259]
leave it flat while we put on our pieces
[261]
so it's kind of kind of it's going to
[264]
look like this I'm going to give you an
[265]
idea
[266]
the blue and the red go behind the Las
[270]
Vegas birthday sign likeness so to get
[273]
them there we're going to use our
[274]
permanent spray adhesive in our spray
[277]
box
[278]
for now we're gonna spray the back of
[281]
the Las Vegas birthday sign with our
[283]
spray adhesive and then we're going to
[286]
place each of the colors that we need on
[290]
to the back of this our Las Vegas sign
[295]
that has adhesive on it so it's the
[298]
birthday is in red it looks kind of
[300]
orange on the screen but it is supposed
[301]
to be right at least and then the blue
[305]
section goes right above that and you
[307]
want to make sure you get the way you
[309]
know if you have a single sided paper
[310]
like me make sure that you put it with
[312]
the color side down and then these
[314]
little red circles are what go behind
[318]
the letters to make them stand out so
[320]
you just stick them there right behind
[322]
each of the five letters the two stars
[325]
on either side don't have a circle
[328]
behind them and this is what it looks
[330]
like it's like this design and so we
[336]
stick it on here so you you can stick it
[338]
with glue or spray adhesive whatever
[340]
works for you make sure that it's tucked
[342]
down nice and good though and I'm
[344]
looking pretty awesome already and of
[347]
course you could put a name down below
[348]
or you know whatever so these two
[351]
l-shaped cards go on either side of your
[356]
possible card you just want to apply it
[358]
when you've got it flipped right don't
[360]
make the mistake of doing it before you
[362]
flip it so they just go right there and
[365]
then this piece is to stabilize it
[368]
because you'll notice it kind of because
[370]
of the twist it kind of wants to twist
[372]
itself so we're using this brace across
[376]
the the bottom so that we can keep it
[378]
perfectly you know at perfect 90-degree
[381]
angles so it fits into your envelope
[384]
without any issues and so just put a
[387]
little don't use spray adhesive for this
[389]
part because otherwise the back would be
[391]
sticky in it in the gap area there just
[394]
use a little tacky glue and just set it
[397]
right down there or wherever you want it
[399]
to be let's make sure that your you've
[401]
got all of your angles in the right spot
[403]
before you press it down there we go so
[406]
and then they'll have a couple little
[408]
embellishments these little stars which
[410]
are the same star that are on the Las
[412]
Vegas sign
[412]
by the way I totally just traced it from
[415]
the picture that I found so whatever you
[418]
want to do however you want to decorate
[419]
or you don't have to use them at all but
[422]
I thought I would put a little one
[423]
across that little brace area and that
[426]
would also be a great spot to write a
[428]
message I think don't you and then the
[431]
other little stars will just go in
[433]
various places around the card just when
[437]
you put the stars on you want to make
[439]
sure that don't you they don't extend
[440]
past the edges of the card otherwise it
[443]
may not fit into your envelope now I
[446]
should note that I made this card at my
[450]
preferred size of 5 by 7 however I'm
[454]
when I asked today in the facebook my
[456]
facebook group what size all of my card
[458]
makers prefer they unanimously said a to
[461]
size which is five and a half by four
[462]
and a quarter so in my files you will
[465]
find two sizes of this card you will
[469]
find the a2 size and you will also find
[473]
this 5 by 7 size which is what I like so
[477]
there you have a choice
[482]
and there we go that's all done and I
[485]
think it turned out fabulous so this was
[490]
a refreshingly simple and fun project
[492]
don't you think and all you really need
[495]
to do this is some paper and some glue
[497]
and some spray adhesive and you're good
[499]
to go
[500]
and you can use the basic impossible
[503]
card template to make all sorts of fun
[505]
cards for your friends and family that
[507]
will amaze it mystify them so now if you
[511]
like impossible cards my friend julie
[514]
has made a really pretty butterfly
[516]
impossible pop-up card and it's so
[519]
awesome
[520]
so julie is also one of my students in
[522]
the cut above SVG design course and
[524]
you'll find her tutorial and free
[526]
cutting files over at cutter crafter
[528]
comm i'll also include the direct link
[531]
to her butterfly impossible card in the
[533]
links below this video ok so tomorrow do
[538]
you need to get your glasses of wine
[539]
ready or hot cocoa whatever you want to
[541]

[544]

[547]
not just going to be any painting party
[549]

[552]
painting party i mean if you've never
[554]
heard of a hot mess canvas i am going to
[556]
show you how to make one tomorrow and
[559]
it's gonna be awesome you're gonna love
[560]
it
[560]
so remember sending your project ideas
