banks and why are transferring in The

Gambia when we came to the Gambia on our

first visit back in 2015 we looked

around the country and decided we liked

it then we tried to set up a bank

account now there are certain things

that I would like to the bank to have

and and the way we run our family as I

keep the bank or rather I keep the bank

accounts stack with cash and sweet juicy

model helps me to manage it and do

whatever for the family in and business

opening so one of the things we like for

a business to have if it's a financial

institution is the ATM card now I'm not

sure but when we came over here 2015 you

cannot do credit card transactions over

here is that correct that's correct and

so realizing that we just wanted to be

able to use it to withdraw money off the

bank account which is a debit card right

and that services offer there right yes

okay and we looked at bank that didn't

have a lot of fees involved back in

America we reach the bounce I meant to

say when we used to like break checks

you know if you had insufficient funds I

mean I didn't know don't know what that

mean but let's just say I did have

insufficient funds they would charge a

whole lot of ridiculous fees and stuff

so what if they have a bank over here

that didn't have a lot of fees okay and

I also wanted a bank to have customer

friendly service you know when you go on

there make me feel I'm important don't

make me feel like I'm insignificant you

know it can I help you

you're in the wrong line after you go

stood in the line for 10 minutes so I

wanted to get away from that I was

looking for quality personal service and

also we wanted

be able to transfer certain you know if

we needed some money from America

transfer to here we wanted to be able to

do that guys that's a good one I miss

international transfer or actually you

can go into your accounts which is the

bank in America that we have it's not

set up where we go online transfer a

large amount maybe in the future that

I'm having right now they don't fund

right that's what we want to be able to

do that with the bank that we open up

here right now jumping back to the 2015

story when we first came over here we

had some money orders and we were trying

to cash them in and no bank one of the

receive those and plus we opened up a

bank account I went back to America and
[207]
we tried to send funds back to the
[209]
Gambia the bank wasn't set up to accept

money from from overseas so we wanted to

make to be able to do that withdraw a

large amounts of money if need be and

wouldn't have the hassle with that and

something else we were looking for is

the bank that had multiple locations

throughout the country in The Gambia we

didn't want to just have one bank and
[236]
you know that was it you know I'm a

dubab bank you know it's only in this
[240]
location so you know we want to set with
[243]
multiple locations and stuff right so

you can go to each now that you know we
[247]
can take the ATM card that we have with
[249]
the bank that we have to in Gambia you

can go to the 18 on the withdraw with it
[254]
car right versus when we first got here

they didn't give us a car with the bank
[259]
that thing and we we just found out and

then we had to apply to another platform
[264]
we didn't know that once you open up
[266]
account that they don't just give it to
[269]
you got an X that you want an ATM and

that's how they operate here you know

versus when we're in America you open up

account they automatically give you to

ATM cards here they give you the option

to mean someone may ask you some on me

not actually

this particular bank that we have was

with they didn't tell us about the ATM

car but in a way when we were first did

in 2015 we did it in the rush rush

anywhere

we just wanted that count open in time

once we opened we knew we were coming

back wrong that's the reason why we

didn't find out about the ATM cards but

I'm sure they probably would have told

us at a later time

mm-hmm I think so another feature that I

was looking for was the opportunity to

borrow from the bank just a drift off

for a little bit when I was in America

and I had quite a bit of money in the

bank just before me and my beautiful

wife got married but I had a large

amount of money in the bank and so

having a background in business I wanted

to really deal so I went to the bank and

said hey I've got this much money in
[343]
your bank and security I want to borrow
[346]
a kid stay in ahead a plus credit okay

my early days in the military and so the

bank came back and said you're not
[356]
approve for the loan and so I mean you
[360]
could use your own judgment but I had
[361]
excellent credit has sufficient amount
[363]
of money in the bank to cover the loan

so if I default on the loan all they had

to do is take it right there they denied
[371]
me so I think I ain't gonna say no but

you know hey you make your own judgment

so anyway I'll close that back down one

of the things I'm looking Bobby close

that account down when I say Bank yes

well if I'm not with a big pulls down

anyway but we're going right along now

I closed that account down and transfer

my money elsewhere so one of the

features I was looking for here to

Gambia was the ability to borrow money

if we needed and we were told the bank

that we bank with or the banks that we

bank with provide that opportunity yes

so that's what my concern was the

ability to borrow money now let's look

at the the reverse of that I also wanted

a bank to facility

loans from myself to business startups

so let's just say you're in just say

you're in cursor ring or vigil or

something you want to start some type of

business

I wanted the bank to say well we'll have

the discount for you yes we'll
[438]
coordinate giving this person alone so

they were act as a middleman for me to

protect me I would have a loss so alone

without money to start up businesses

because again that's a business

opportunity here guys a small startup

companies need cash and if you got a

little bit you know extra to to share

and help develop the country hey black

power so what what I wanted to mention

is once you do once you come here when

you move here and you want to set up

your bank account just remember when you

go to the bank and you want to set it up

make sure you have to passport ID fold

yes you must have those and you must

have your passport and maybe a 90 day my

tax for 90 I don't know but they're

gonna ask you to fill out the paperwork

then you once you get approve they will

say okay your bank account is ready but

you have to have I think of thousands

hola see so open that account $20 yes

but if you want a dollar account with

that account that you're opening which

you can you must have a thousand US

dollars to start to open that account

then you can open that account but again

you must have those IDs to passport

photos in your passport when you go to

apply for that and make sure you ask

them about the there's two cars that you

have when you open one of the cash the

bank that we were in it's called a verb

car which is you you get that when you

have just the de la si account when you

want the the dollar account you can get

a visa card and you can use that

anywhere they say anywhere overseas you

can go to America and it's this call of

visa that acts like a you know regular

ATM card in America and you can draw

but you can do that all you have to do

is look for that right and we wanted a

bank that would be able to transfer from

America to the bank here now that's

quite a complex operation could you

from America to here when we need yes

you can do it again like our bank in

America is not set up where I can go

online and just go into my bank account

and transfer a large amount of something

they would not let that happen but here

they will allow me to take money from

this bank and transfer to my accountable

I mean my American account but again

America don't accept it either with the

bait that we have in America now there

is other banks when we decide we will

change once we get there thanks for

going again how we do that is we called

the bank in America tell them that I

need a wire transfer how much I need
[607]
they didn't get my information and they
[609]
sends it to get the information of the

bank here and they will wire transfer it

normally take within they say here three

business days but the only when I look

at my account sometimes is within on
[621]
Sunday but that's how you know they
[623]
operate here with it all right good good

sure of and that Bank is called GT

banking my friends that's one of the

banks that's one thing and the other one

is trust Trust Bank so we have two bank

accounts you that we found that met the

standard but I think there are some

other banks here that also kind of give

you like a little extra what you want to

withdraw for age right that's all you

have to do is do your research there's
[664]
equal bank
[665]
there's charter standard and then
[668]
there's a I forget the other ones but
[670]
the the main ones that I know is echo

Bank charter and GG better trucks and

once you give you you what you would

know whether the you know

the main ones what that's cool

which one allows you to withdraw the

most per day or per car transit and

we're not with them which is charter

allow you to take 8000 velocity in one

transaction from the ATM now GT allow

time for the car they normally call you

when they come in which is about 8:00

they call whoever's on that list mm-hmm

once you're on that list you're able to

send whoever you know money if you want

to send money to the states okay or if

you you know getting money from the

states right that's how it works and you

whatever amount you want to send you

have to go through that and that's how

have any competition or do they have a

monopoly over here whatever the only one

so far they said GT is the only one that

does it for sending money to the states

okay but anywhere else in the I believe

in anywhere else in Africa you know you

could send money okay and you don't have

to get up there early only for you it so

where I was told okay well how long does

it normally take if we want to when

you're going to everyone it it doesn't

take long at all take within but maybe
[912]
15 min reso swap yes so but you you have

to make it's like appointment you're

going to sign your name on the list once

it they open come then they grab that

list and it called the people who's

they're going down you're giving the

money you send your money to whoever you

want in the US that's how I work

they're the only one that does it that's
