Amann Group: Providing a Sustainable Alternative for the Textile Industry | by TBD Media - YouTube

[2]
We have 92 million tons a year of textile waste
[6]
which is only to a very small percentage recycled, the rest is burned or used for
[10]
landfill and I think we can't go on like that.
[13]
If you see the global population will grow a lot over the next
[17]
decades and the textile production will go up, so something we have to change and
[21]
I think the young generation is much more sensitive than they were
[25]
before and that will influence even the elderly people.
[28]
So I think we will see a move in the next two or three years strongly
[32]
to more sustainable garments and textiles.
[46]
The Amann Group is producing sewing thread and embroidery thread
[50]
for a wide range of different industrial branches and segments
[54]
which is used in thousands of applications, which are very different.
[58]
If you look at the production processes, we need a lot of
[62]
electrical energy for the pre spinning operation for twisting and
[67]
weaving and then finally it's the dyeing operation which consumes
[72]
gallons and gallons of water to dye the garments
[75]
and to get the colour.
[77]
In the last five years we saved 29 percent
[79]
of the water, which will be used before and that is mainly done by
[83]
reusing wastewater.
[87]
We are using in our plants reverse osmosis.
[90]
We are investing into this, so that we are reusing our water
[95]
and we are planning in the next few
[97]
years that all our production units are working with reverse osmosis.
[103]
Certification for our environmental management,
[105]
we already got in 2008, so ISO 14,001.
[110]
We are doing audits every year
[112]
in all our production units, we have one standard worldwide so if we have
[116]
14,001 here environmental management in Augsburg,
[119]
we apply the same to every single production site we have in the world,
[124]
so there is only one standard in the Amann Group.
[130]
We took the strategic decision to open the plant in Romania
[134]
mainly because our country is still a production hub for
[138]
automotive and fashion customers.
[142]
Our plant is the result of consistent
[144]
investment, done across the last 15 years benefiting from state-of-the-art technology.
[150]
The implementation of sustainable practices
[152]
has definitely changed the way we run this plant.
[155]
In meeting the upcoming
[157]
concerns of our customers, we initiated the certification
[160]
of the global recycling standard for our production of recycled threads.
[165]
By streamlining materials and processes and by installing new technologies
[170]
we have more control and less human resources errors.
[174]
All these actions translate into a safer workplace,
[177]
a cleaner environment, a better product quality while enhancing
[181]
the control of the process.
[186]
We are a global company and we are originally come from Germany
[189]
but, you know, the textiles industry is moving around
[192]
and we have to supply our customers in their required lead time.
[196]
And that is only possible if we produce in the country where our customers are
[200]
and that is, for example, Bangladesh and we produce in Bangladesh for Bangladesh
[205]
only on supply chain reasons.
[207]
Theoretically, it would be possible
[209]
to import to Bangladesh thousands of articles and that's
[213]
bringing it in from different production locations, that's neither economical nor sustainable
[218]
and for sure not possible in our business.
[221]
Amann Bangladesh plant produces sewing
[224]
and embroidery thread for the fashion industry.
[227]
We have very sophisticated plant machinery
[230]
and follow best practices to our production processes
[234]
to ensure the best quality product, service, and the safety of our people.
[240]
From the beginning, we paid high importance in building
[244]
a professional team.
[246]
Now, Amann Bangladesh have most
[249]
experienced and versatile team of professionals in the industry.
[255]
Amann consciously decided
[257]
to enter into the UN Global Compact.
[261]
Bangladesh is also part of this.
[265]
Our ambition, not only to be pioneer
[269]
in producing high quality product and service
[273]
but also in activities in the spirit of sustainability.
[282]
The 10 principles from the UN Global Compact
[285]
are for, on one the base of our work outside, we have to train the
[288]
people outside as well on those principles and that is all
[291]
integrated in our code of conduct as well.
[294]
When I look at
[295]
what has changed, is that we have a huge demand from our customers
[298]
requesting for recycled threads, they all are bringing
[301]
new lines in, because they have seen even based on Friday for future trends and
[306]
all this that the young generation gets more and more sensitive
[311]
on what we do with our resources and how we
[313]
treat our environment.
[316]
I think we are ahead of the curve, we have
[318]
even now started and we are the first company doing that.
[320]
We will bring sewing thread
[321]
cradle to cradle basis, on the one side
[324]
really disposable cradle to cradle theory that nothing left you
[328]
can put the thread on the ground and it goes away
[331]
or you have biological cradle to cradle purposes, where you
[334]
produced it and at the end you can reuse the thread to 100 percent.
[341]
Even an insignificant part in the production chain, like the
[347]
sewing thread, can make a difference as well.
[350]
It is a very important part of the whole and not just the the big part makes a
[354]
difference, every small part makes a difference as well.
