[0]
jj and cpa here hope you're doing well
[2]
so dependent care expenses in 21
[5]
it's bigger and it's juicier how so in
[9]
21
[10]
you get to count now up to for one
[12]
dependent 8 000
[15]
independent care expenses that's way up
[18]
it's up to for two or more dependents
[21]
it's up to 16 000 that can be included
[24]
for dependent care benefits and the
[26]
percentage that's used to determine the
[28]
credit is up in 21 and it's 50 percent
[32]
so for one dependent you can count up to
[34]
8 000 independent care expenses and at
[37]
50 that's up to a 4 000
[40]
tax credit if you have two or more
[43]
right you're following the math up to 16
[45]
000 independent care benefits 50
[47]
it's a 8 000 tax credit now how do you
[50]
know especially for those that
[52]
don't prepare your own return or you're
[54]
preparing it yourself you're not sure
[55]
did it come out right well there should
[57]
be a form 2441 for starters because
[59]
that's where you indicate who the
[61]
dependents are who the dependent care
[64]
provider was and their information and
[66]
how much was paid to them and then the
[68]
calculation but where the rubber meets
[70]
the road is you would look on your form
[73]
1040
[75]
and you would look in two spots because
[76]
guess what in 21
[78]
potentially the dependent care benefit
[81]
is partially refundable
[84]
so
[84]
you would look on
[86]
uh form 1040 and you would either look
[89]
on line 31 or look on line 20. line 31
[92]
is the refundable amount line 20 is your
[95]
credit just not the refundable amount
[97]
that's on your form 1040.
[99]
the other spot to make sure is that when
[101]
you go from your form 2441 where it's
[104]
calculated those credits carry to
[106]
schedule three
[108]
and on schedule three you look on line
[110]
13g to see the refundable amount and on
[114]
schedule three you would look on line
[116]
two to see the non-refundable amount so
[118]
if you're wanting to just follow the
[119]
calculation form 2441 to schedule three
[123]
to the form 1040 or you can just start
[125]
at the end and go well did i get the
[127]
credit but if you want to make sure it's
[128]
correct here's how you work its way
[130]
backwards so i'm going to give you a
[132]
link to the instructions and the form of
[134]
form 2441 that's really where the rubber
[137]
meets the road and it wrote and how this
[138]
all works and so
[140]
age limit and the mechan
[142]
income limits faqs of the irs are also
[145]
super helpful which i'm going to give
[146]
you a link to but the one thing i'm
[149]
glad you made it to here on is that for
[151]
those that run the dependent care
[153]
benefits through wages through their
[155]
employer
[156]
so on a form w-2 box 10 it's the
[159]
dependent care benefits that were ran
[160]
through that cafeteria plan that planned
[163]
through the employer know this employers
[167]
didn't have to increase the amount that
[169]
you were running through that plan for
[172]
the new increased amounts for 21 meaning
[176]
you may have only run through 5000 for
[178]
one or ten thousand for two
[181]
but you may have very well more
[183]
dependent care expenses
[184]
so be on the lookout for this because in
[187]
the past
[188]
typically what you ran through your
[190]
wages and was in box 10 was pretty much
[193]
what you spent or it was already then
[195]
the max
[196]
you very easily can have more
[199]
than what was ran through the employer
[201]
and then you get in essence this credit
[204]
because you had more expenses so for
[206]
fellow tax pros be sure that we're
[209]
asking because in the past we go well
[212]
did they have them yes okay they already
[213]
ran the max done we're doing the form
[215]
2441 to show that they qualified
[217]
properly and they got it no adjustments
[220]
but it's in the past many times it's
[222]
just a wash for those that have the box
[224]
10 of the form w3 indicating the
[227]
dependent care benefits so don't miss
[229]
out on this any of our clients that
[231]
we're doing returns on they have the box
[233]
10 we always are wanting to verify that
[235]
information verify that they actually
[237]
have those expenses but now
[239]
in addition hey did you have any more
[242]
so most of the time our clients are just
[243]
giving us the documents that then show
[246]
from the dependent care here's what you
[247]
spent here's what it is period they just
[250]
list what it is not what the max is it's
[252]
allowed for irs purposes here's what it
[253]
is so most of our clients we already
[255]
have that
[256]
but be sure especially for that if
[258]
you're paying for these amounts you get
[260]
to account more expenses and the credit
[263]
percentage is greater so don't miss out
[265]
on that all right hey
[266]
i'll put links in the body of this video
[268]
i do cpe check out that as well all
[270]
