Curb Appeal Makeover in a Day | Scott's House Call S2 (EP 10) - YouTube

Channel: Scott McGillivray

Scott: I think I tore my pants.
[2]
Did I tear my pants? (laughing)
[4]
No, I probably didn't tear my pants.
[7]
(upbeat theme music)
[9]
[13]
[18]
Steven and Roo live in a cookie-cutter home
[20]
in the suburbs.
[21]
Now they love their location but they're not
[23]
so thrilled with the lack of curb appeal.
[26]
So I'm gonna spend the day at their house
[27]
to see if we can give the front
[29]
of their home some personality.
[32]
Scott: Good morning! Hello, good morning!
[35]
Scott: And who's this? This is Kobe.
[36]
Hey Kobe, how you doing?
[38]
So I understand you guys want
[39]
to do some work outside your home.
[41]
Yes, we definitely do.
[42]
Okay, let's stand back and take a look.
[44]
So here's the outside.
[46]
It's just a little bit cookie cutter.
[47]
It looks the same as everybody else here.
[49]
The white railings.
[51]
It doesn't really match our personality.
[54]
We think it should be
[55]
a little bit more modern and contemporary.
[57]
There's lots we can do here.
[58]
We'll take these railings off,
[59]
we'll do something a little more modern.
[61]
And then there's even room for a little bit of landscaping
[63]
to make it feel a little cozier.
[64]
You guys ready to get to work?
[65]
- Let's do it. - Absolutely.
[66]
'Cause we're gonna do it all today.
[68]
(laughs) Okay.
[69]
Alright, let's do it!
[70]
(upbeat music)
[71]
Scott: We're getting to work.
[75]
Yeah!
[76]
You guys are handy with the tools.
[78]
What do you do for a living?
[79]
I am a competitive figure skating coach.
[81]
You're a competitive figure skating coach?
[83]
Yeah. (laughs)
[85]
Scott: How hard is a quad jump?
[86]
Well, can you spin four times in less than a second?
[89]
(laughs)
[91]
If I can renovate your front yard in a day,
[93]
you can teach me how to do a quad in an hour.
[96]
I could probably teach you the start
[97]
of what we call a waltz jump.
[98]
What about a full turn, though?
[100]
You could do a full turn.
[101]
You're gonna put your feet together.
[102]
You're gonna bring your arms
[104]
around this time to start the rotation.
[106]
And then take it to a full turn.
[108]
One foot.
[109]
Beijing 2022!
[111]
Feet goes first.
[112]
Jump!
[113]
There we go! (laughs)
[114]
I had too much rotation!
[116]
I should have gone straight to the double.
[117]
You should've gone straight to the quad.
[119]
- Straight to the quad. - Straight to the quad.
[120]
(upbeat music)
[123]
[128]
(cheery music)
[130]
Here's what we're gonna do.
[133]
And by we I mean you. - Alright.
[134]
The garden is gonna follow the line of the house.
[137]
So we've gotta get the grass out,
[138]
turn the dirt,
[139]
and then we'll start planting. - Perfect.
[141]
(upbeat music)
[144]
[147]
[151]
Scott: One of the best ways to make a big impact
[153]
with curb appeal is to change the color of your door.
[156]
But the most important thing is the type
[158]
of paint you're using as well,
[159]
so on the front door, I'm gonna use
[161]
the Para Ultra Hybrid Technology paint.
[164]
What's great is that it's durable
[165]
like an oil-based paint, but it has the low VOC
[168]
and cleanup of a water-based paint,
[170]
which makes it easy to use.
[172]
And this one here has got scuff-resistance,
[175]
so when you're coming in and out of that door,
[178]
it ain't gonna make a mark.
[180]
Wow, look at that color!
[182]
(upbeat music)
[190]
Little bit of landscaping really finishes off the space.
[193]
We've got the hydrangeas along the front here,
[195]
that's gonna cover up the concrete on that side.
[198]
A couple standard hydrangeas, which is really
[200]
gonna anchor the front entrance.
[202]
And some mulch along the bottom just
[204]
to make it feel nice and finished,
[206]
to hold in some moisture, and to block from weeds.
[209]
Now that it's almost all done,
[212]
I'm gonna show these boys
[214]
what the new front of their house looks like.
[217]
(cheerful music)
[220]
Come on!
[221]
Holy cow!
[223]
Oh, my God. It's awesome.
[225]
It's like wow! - It's so different.
[226]
- It just like pops.
[228]
(cheery music)
[230]
[232]
It just looks so high end, we love it.
[234]
So it was obviously a lot of work for one day,
[236]
but not impossible.
[238]
We replaced all the railings.
[240]
Now you've got the tempered glass,
[241]
which is nice and clean.
[243]
We used black as an accent,
[245]
so when you look down all these decks,
[247]
yours is the one that stands out.
[249]
We did the shutters on the whole front of the house.
[253]
We planted this nice garden all the way around.
[256]
You guys worked really hard to dig them out.
[260]
And painted that door!
[262]
(laughs)
[264]
And we set up the nice table, you got the table and chairs.
[266]
It's actually nice to sit there now.
[268]
- Yeah.
[269]
It looks like somebody actually lives here now.
[271]
It doesn't look like somebody just moved in.
[273]
Now you guys can be proud of your home
[275]
both inside and out.
[276]
- Definitely. - Definitely.
[277]
Alright, now enjoy all the comments from the neighbors.
[279]
Will do. (laughs)
[281]
Wow, that's crazy.
[284]
Okay, Beijing 2022. (laughter)
[286]
Prepare yourself.
[287]
- And kick and jump, one foot.
[288]
There we go!
[289]
Awesome. Ba-bum!
