This episode of the vlog I'm gonna talk about LinkedIn premium
[3]
and if I think it's worth it for you.
[5]
It wasn't worth it for me, but I'll share my opinion for you.
[13]
So when it comes to LinkedIn premium there are a lot of options
[16]
and then you could do LinkedIn career, you can LinkedIn business, you do LinkedIn recruiter
[21]
and I think it depends on your need of whether it's worth it or not.
[24]
And so there's LinkedIn career, I did LinkedIn business
[27]
I think LinkedIn career's about 20 $30 a month.
[30]
LinkedIn business I believe was $60 a month and then recruiter starts at $99 a month.
[34]
that can go up from there.
[36]
The reality of LinkedIn is it's a powerful platform
[38]
it's a great place to connect professionally, great way to meet people
[42]
and there's really a ton of opportunities on there. But the question is,
[46]
is it worth spending the money on LinkedIn? And I think the answer is it depends.
[51]
For me my goal on LinkedIn is not to get new business while I've made some connections on there
[56]
that have led to new business; that's not my primary objective.
[59]
My primary objective is really just to connect with people
[61]
to build a relationships, maybe find new people, find good content online from that's professional in nature
[67]
Where Facebook tends to be more personal.
[70]
Twitter is where I get news and information.
[72]
Instagram is where it's kind of fun and where I'm relaxing.
[75]
LinkedIn is really where I want to go to read articles
[77]
and find out what people that I'm connected with professionally are talking about and saying.
[81]
And so for me LinkedIn business didn't make a lot of sense. Now it opens up a few opportunities
[89]
it opens up an opportunity for me to message people directly
[92]
that I wouldn't be able to or aren't yet connected to.
[95]
That's good, it shows my profile to more people, and so if I'm looking for people to find me
[101]
That's good as well. I actually had a thousand more connections
[104]
from when I started LinkedIn premium to not. And now I normally grow by maybe 200
[109]
new connections a month so I actively or i'm getting a regular connection request.
[114]
But that was by 5x during that month so it was definitely recommending my profile to more people
[119]
and I accept about half the people that request to reach out to me
[123]
if it makes sense, if we have some kind of similarity or commonality or similar connections
[128]
I'll accept a lot of the people that asked me to connect on LinkedIn.
[132]
And so I saw that increased significantly when I use the premium account.
[136]
So if you're asking the question does LinkedIn make sense for you? Is it worth the money?
[140]
And so I think it depends on where you are,
[142]
I think if you're looking for a job, absolutely it makes sense
[145]
I think everyone needs to spend that $30 a month if you're looking for job.
[149]
I think it will return tenfold back to what you need to do I can't imagine not using it
[154]
if you're looking for job. If you're a recruiter I can't imagine not using LinkedIn.
[158]
I don't think there's a better tool out there when you're recruiting today than LinkedIn.
[162]
And then I think in the middle if you're in a b2b sales opportunity
[166]
if you're looking for specific people a certain niche professionally
[169]
I think LinkedIn is the platform for you to go and connect and make connections.
[175]
And this is where InMail really comes in. So if you're looking for a job in there
[180]
and you know maybe a company that you want to work for and you know who a decision maker might be
[184]
but yet if you just add them as a connection they're not likely to accept that connection.
[188]
So InMail provides an opportunity for you to make a connection.
[192]
So here's what I learned about InMail,
[194]
while I'm not looking for a job and I wasn't looking to connect with CEO
[198]
I am looking for guests for my podcast and so I used InMail as a way to reach out
[203]
to about 10 influencers that I couldn't otherwise connect with and I shot big with some folks
[210]
and I was ignored by nine out of the ten, but I did have oneperson message me back
[215]
that I couldn't have otherwise got to hold up.
[218]
So for the $60 that I spent - I just did the trial so I didn't actually spend the money
[222]
but how I spent the $60 it would have been worth it for that one connection.
[226]
So for that purpose I think it made sense.
[230]
It was very interesting and exciting and I'd be curious if I could do it again.
[234]
The reality is, that's a bonus that's not something that I'm really looking to
[237]
engage and connect with on a regular basis or reaching out to these influencers on a regular basis.
[242]
But if I needed to it would be worth that $60. Absolutely!
[246]
So I think the question really is do you need it? Does it make sense for your goals on LinkedIn
[253]
to spend the money? $30 $60 or $90 its actually a really good price when it comes to the opportunity
[259]
if you are looking for a job, if you are in sales, or you're a recruiter.
[264]
Otherwise use the free platform it's an incredibly valuable tool
[268]
and I think the more you engage on LinkedIn
[270]
whether it's content consumption, just connecting person to person on a professional level
[275]
LinkedIn is great platform. I am all-in on LinkedIn. I am probably using it as my third social network
[282]
spending more time on Instagram,on YouTube and Facebook and I may be taking YouTube out of the social
[289]
because I'm more consuming content on YouTube. So Instagram Facebook and LinkedIn
[293]
is where I'm spending the majority of my time on social media.
[296]
LinkedIn is a very valuable tool so I think it's worth investing in
[300]
and I think these premium opportunities are really worth it
[303]
if you have a need either as a job seeker as a b2b sales or as a recruiter.
[309]
So that's my two cents on LinkedIn premium I might go back if I kind of
[313]
move into looking for a new job ,or if I move into b2b sales, or if I become a recruiter
[320]
I'm gonna spend that money again, I think it's well worth it in those scenarios.
