america's infrastructure is crumbling
[2]
faster than a nature valley bar
[4]
which is why joe biden has released an
[6]
ambitious plan to rebuild
[8]
his new infrastructure bill covers not
[9]
just roads and bridges
[11]
but also manufacturing high-speed
[13]
internet
[14]
green energy and even home health care
[17]
for the elderly and yeah i know that
[19]
that last one isn't really
[20]
infrastructure but come on
[22]
you know biden had to throw a little
[23]
something in there for himself you know
[25]
i mean
[26]
so this bill would be a huge investment
[28]
in america
[29]
but because it costs more than two
[32]
trillion dollars and might actually help
[35]
people
[36]
no republican senators are expected to
[38]
vote for it
[40]
the good news for biden is that this is
[41]
one of those bills that the democrats
[43]
could pass
[44]
with a simple majority which they do
[46]
have in the senate
[48]
the bad news is one of those votes has
[50]
to be joe manchin
[52]
west virginia senator and owl on a job
[55]
interview
[55]
and right now joe manchin isn't too
[58]
happy with the bill
[60]
joe manchin might be a roadblock to the
[62]
infrastructure plan
[64]
the one man who may control the fate of
[65]
president biden's agenda is not making
[67]
life easy for his fellow democrats
[69]
senator joe manchin has continued to
[71]
rail against that 28
[73]
proposed corporate tax hike to pay for
[76]
this thing he thinks this will be broken
[78]
up into three bills because one of the
[79]
big arguments is that some things like
[82]
child care and housing
[83]
aren't technically infrastructure look
[86]
he is that 50th vote for democrats and
[88]
chuck schumer the majority leader
[90]
can't pass anything that biden sends
[92]
over without
[94]
joe manchin you hear that the entire
[97]
fate
[98]
of this infrastructure bill rests in the
[101]
meaty hands of joe manchin
[104]
and it's not just infrastructure if joe
[106]
biden wants anything passed
[108]
from gun control to raising the minimum
[110]
wage
[111]
to making lavar burton the host of
[113]
jeopardy he has to get
[115]
joe manchin on board basically if the
[117]
democrats are britney spears
[119]
and joe manchin is their dad which makes
[122]
joe manchin
[123]
the most powerful person in america well
[126]
second to the guy at cvs was the key to
[128]
the razor shelf
[130]
but who is joe manchin and more
[132]
importantly
[133]
why is joe manchin well let's find out
[136]
in our brand new segment please allow me
[138]
to introduce yourself
[142]
[Music]
[147]
joe manchin first rose to prominence as
[149]
the governor of west virginia
[151]
before getting elected to the senate in
[154]
2010
[155]
and while all senators talk about
[157]
reaching across the aisle
[158]
mansion has made it a personal mission
[161]
joe manchin believes in working across
[163]
the aisle and has relationships
[164]
he wants to focus on trying to get
[168]
you know democrats and republicans that
[169]
work in the same room he has been part
[171]
of some bipartisan groups that have been
[172]
trying to come up with some kind of
[174]
legislation that can get
[175]
support in the senate from both parties
[177]
republican senators susan collins of
[180]
maine and democratic senator
[182]
joe manchin of west virginia they are
[184]
the newly announced
[186]
honorary co-chairs of no
[189]
labels a group advocating bipartisan
[192]
solutions
[193]
in washington everything no labels does
[196]
is in a bipartisan way it's not from one
[198]
side
[198]
ideologically or the other we're in the
[200]
radical middle that's right
[202]
joe manchin is in the radical middle
[205]
he'll eat extra vanilla ice cream
[208]
now crank up the ed sheeran and make a
[211]
reasonable amount of noise
[213]
i will say the term radical middle is a
[216]
great way to trick your friends into
[217]
riding [聽__聽] isn't it
[218]
ooh the middle back seat oh so radical
[222]
both of your legs are going to be
[223]
touching one of ours oh
[225]
but if i'm completely honest here
[227]
mansion is kind of right
[229]
it is radical to be in the middle during
[231]
this time in american politics
[233]
i mean democrats and republicans are
[235]
further apart than my nipples were after
[236]
that botched boob job
[238]
so the fact that he can agree with both
[240]
sides
[241]
that's extreme it's kind of like being a
[244]
robot
[245]
who's also amish we are simple people
[248]
who believe in the old ways
[251]
but even if the working across the aisle
[253]
is going out of fashion in washington
[255]
it makes mansion very popular in west
[257]
virginia
[258]
although he's also popular there because
[260]
he looks out for his people's interests
[263]
whether it's defending their coal mines
[264]
or their
[266]
mtv's reputations reality show buckwild
[269]
has been described as a jersey shore of
[270]
appalachia
[271]
one thing these shows have in common
[273]
they stir up controversy
[274]
before they go on the air as chip reed
[277]
reports a senator from west virginia is
[279]
condemning the new program's view
[280]
of his home state in no way shape or
[282]
form is this
[284]
reality and definitely not reality in
[286]
west virginia
[287]
if it was your state and these were your
[289]
children how would you feel about it
[292]
okay first of all i'm not sure that this
[293]
is the best argument to make if you care
[295]
about your state's tourism industry
[297]
don't believe the reality show this
[299]
place is boring as [聽__聽]
[301]
but also mansion can relax because
[303]
everyone is fully aware that reality tv
[305]
isn't reality i mean think about it the
[307]
bachelorette makes
[309]
dating seem like you go ziplining with a
[311]
woman and 30 other guys
[312]
that's not real everyone knows that
[314]
dating is really just grabbing dinner
[316]
with a woman
[317]
and 30 other guys ain't nobody's
[319]
ziplining but
[320]
fighting for his state wouldn't be
[322]
enough if joe manchin supported
[324]
standard democratic policies because
[325]
don't forget west virginia
[327]
is an extremely conservative state so
[330]
anyone who wants to get elected there
[332]
has to be pretty conservative too and
[335]
joe manchin
[336]
definitely is he actually said that he
[338]
regretted supporting hillary clinton
[340]
said he might be open to supporting
[342]
donald trump in 2020 if he agrees with
[344]
him on a number of issues joe manchin
[345]
tweeting this quote
[347]
defund the police defund my butt he
[349]
opposed some of president obama's energy
[351]
policies
[352]
and has supported gun rights when
[354]
president trump brought a bipartisan
[356]
group to the white house
[357]
mansion senator manchin from west
[359]
virginia is the first
[360]
democrat to say all right i'm on board i
[363]
want a wall
[364]
i'll cut federal spending and i'll
[366]
repeal the bad parts of obamacare
[369]
i sued epa and i'll take dead aim
[372]
at the cap and trade bill okay first of
[375]
all can we just stop this thing where
[377]
politicians
[377]
shoot bills in their ads it's tacky it's
[380]
also kind of disrespectful to the staff
[382]
at kinkos
[383]
but it's people like joe manchin that
[385]
make you realize
[386]
america needs more than two major
[388]
parties
[389]
because he doesn't seem to totally fit
[391]
into either one i mean think about it
[394]
joe manchin is in the same party
[397]
as aoc imagine if other industries work
[400]
like this
[401]
like to have a career in music you had
[403]
to either join bts
[404]
or the wu-tang clan i mean billy eilish
[407]
is like
[408]
but i don't fit into either of those you
[409]
gotta choose billy you gotta choose
[412]
so mansion is in the democratic party
[416]
but he doesn't really get along with the
[417]
democratic party
[419]
in fact i'm sure there are moments that
[421]
get really tense when he walks by the
[422]
democrats in the cafeteria
[424]
there's probably one seat left empty at
[426]
the table and bernie always puts his
[427]
giant mittens on it
[428]
i'm once again asking you to sit
[430]
somewhere else
[431]
so joe manchin is pushing conservative
[433]
ideas and preventing democrats from
[436]
passing their bills
[438]
the question is then why do they put up
[440]
with him
[441]
do they love his homemade gazpacho is he
[443]
the only
[444]
tenor in the senate barbershop quartet
[446]
or could he be the only democrat with
[448]
the upper body strength to open a pickle
[450]
jar no it's mostly because when it comes
[453]
to democrats from west virginia
[455]
he's the best they're ever gonna get joe
[457]
manson coming from a state that donald
[459]
trump won
[460]
with 68 of the vote he's the only
[463]
democrat who could win in west virginia
[465]
uh so therefore he's sort of an
[466]
immovable object joe manchin is one of
[468]
the 50 democratic
[470]
uh votes he's the only democrat who can
[472]
get elected to the senate in
[474]
from west virginia and so they got deal
[477]
with joe manchin
[478]
yeah joe manchin may be a pain in the
[480]
ass who wants everything done his way
[482]
but without him the democrats wouldn't
[484]
have a majority at
[485]
all and then they wouldn't get anything
[489]
passed
[490]
he's like that annoying kid on your
[491]
block who had a pool
[493]
yeah he hogged all the noodles and
[495]
wouldn't let anyone use the diving board
[497]
but without him
[498]
there's no pool party and then you're
[500]
just running through the sprinkler
[502]
like a little [聽__聽] so that's joe
[504]
manchin party pooper radically
[506]
boring and the most powerful man in
[507]
america and you might not like him
[510]
you might wish he was someone else but
[512]
if you don't want all the roads and
[513]
bridges to collapse
[514]
well you gotta get in his pool
[520]
[Music]
[528]
