TOURNAMENTS MIGHT NOT HAVE STREET FIGHTER 6!? Capcom Forces New License Agreement - YouTube

Channel: VesperArcade

[0]
okay so if you guys didn't hear the big
[2]
news catch on fighters randomly is like
[4]
calling all organizers and they're all
[6]
like have this cheery positive attitude
[9]
when it was just like the mark of doom i
[12]
don't know i don't know how capcom
[13]
expected everyone to react this was
[15]
really funny and i kind of tried to lay
[17]
low on this one for a bit but it's like
[19]
escalated already now and there's gonna
[21]
be updates so we might as well talk
[22]
about this now so anyways capcom's like
[24]
calling all tournament organizers check
[26]
out our new community license agreement
[28]
for running events with street fighter v
[30]
it covers everything you need to know in
[32]
one easy reference space right let me go
[35]
over the license agreement so you guys
[38]
know so this is for tournaments that use
[40]
street fighter 5 and obviously in the
[42]
future it will be for using street
[45]
fighter 6 as well you guys know that
[47]
street fighter is very esports
[50]
and capcom intended this to be
[52]
streamlined so people that need to run
[54]
tournaments using street fighter 5 can
[56]
easily you know sign this thing and then
[59]
it's yeah it's just more streamlined in
[60]
general so there's about three big big
[64]
things that i'll try to summarize for
[66]
you guys on this one and the first one
[68]
is uh right at the beginning in this all
[71]
cap letters it's perfect
[73]
and it says uh by clicking the accept
[75]
button which is you know at the very
[77]
bottom when you uh submit that your
[79]
tournament you're running uses the game
[81]
you agree that this agreement is
[83]
enforceable like any written contract
[85]
signed by you and capcom if you do not
[88]
agree to this agreement do not use the
[91]
street fighter 5 series the game for
[94]
organizing or hosting a tournament so
[97]
this is the big big first red flag
[100]
because capcom is saying if you do not
[103]
agree
[105]
then you can't use our game for your
[107]
tournaments period like right off the
[110]
bat it's already bad at the very
[113]
beginning because obviously it wasn't
[115]
like this before
[117]
so it's like you agree to this or not
[119]
there's like no leeway and this is like
[121]
your typical esports contract you know
[124]
it's really funny too because it's like
[126]
when capcom i'm going to read this to
[128]
you guys and explain everything that's
[129]
going on in this but it's really funny
[131]
because it's like capcom asked advice
[133]
from nintendo or something you know you
[135]
know nintendo has gotten a lot of bad
[138]
press lately with removing smash
[139]
brothers completely from evil you know
[142]
the nintendo fans have eaten a lot of
[145]
crap from them and they just that was
[147]
just like the final nail on the coffin
[150]
but now like capcom after just getting
[153]
over bad press from the street fighter 6
[156]
logo you know people finally started
[158]
forgetting about the street fighter 6
[159]
logo and then now this happened right
[161]
after you know and it's just like hack i
[164]
was like yo nintendo you got any advice
[166]
on you know how to piss people off
[170]
it's like they took this template from
[172]
some big esports like game like like all
[175]
the big esports games have these kind of
[177]
contracts right for their tournaments
[179]
but like it looks like they took it from
[181]
the biggest ones you know like riot
[183]
games or something you know something
[185]
ridiculous
[186]
and uh it just doesn't translate well
[189]
for street fighter which you know we'll
[191]
go over in a bit here so let me go over
[193]
the next big red flag for you guys on
[196]
this has to do with how much money your
[199]
event is gonna make okay so we see
[201]
qualification criteria and it says uh
[204]
the prize pool for the event must be set
[207]
and clearly disclosed in advance of the
[209]
event in the event in the event rules of
[212]
the event and it says it must be under 2
[215]
000 usd per event
[218]
the total prize pool within any given 12
[221]
month period must be under 10 000 so
[224]
that's if you have multiple terms a year
[227]
and the sponsorship contributions must
[229]
be under five thousand dollars
[231]
and the total sponsorship contributions
[233]
for the year should be under twenty
[235]
thousand dollars now if you guys haven't
[238]
noticed
[239]
this number is very low okay
[242]
it's very easy for some of these terms
[244]
to hit these numbers and then what
[246]
happens if you go over these numbers
[247]
well this is where it gets really crazy
[249]
so it says if your event is beyond the
[252]
scope of the criteria set forth above
[254]
you'll need to apply for an esports
[257]
license according to section nine
[260]
esports license section nine let's go to
[263]
section nine
[264]
section nine contact us if your
[268]
tournament does not meet the rules and
[269]
restrictions for a community license you
[271]
can apply for esports license at esports
[273]
at calcom.com
[275]
so they don't even disclose how much it
[277]
costs right
[279]
and i would imagine that the esports
[281]
license for their tournament would be uh
[284]
quite a bit because word on the street
[286]
and this is just only inside information
[288]
i don't actually you know talk to any
[290]
ttls but word on the street is that a
[292]
lot of the teos that run the big
[294]
tournaments
[295]
that are definitely going to go above
[297]
these numbers are already saying that
[299]
it's the esports license it's not even
[301]
worth it to have street fighter they
[304]
might as well just remove the game from
[305]
the tournament and then not deal with it
[307]
so now you're kind of in this big pickle
[309]
where you're one or the other right so
[312]
that's already a massive massive problem
[315]
uh now the third big big one let me find
[318]
so the third big red flag is the license
[322]
grant grant back here so it says
[325]
you grant capcom a non-exclusive
[328]
irrevocable royalty-free license to use
[331]
distribute and stream match footage and
[334]
any creative derivative works of match
[336]
footage for capcom's promotional
[338]
purposes
[340]
and so what they're saying is that
[342]
capcom when you run a tournament
[344]
whatever you show on your stream or
[345]
whatever you show off
[347]
catcom has rights to use all that
[349]
footage all of it and that is already
[352]
that's another big one right because
[353]
tournament organizers you know they pay
[355]
all this extra money for this high
[357]
production event they're obviously going
[359]
to want to make some revenue off that
[361]
footage that they're recording but
[363]
capcom can also use that footage as well
[367]
you can kind of look at this in two ways
[369]
though because there are some term
[370]
organizers that are like well this is
[372]
good for me if you're smaller because
[374]
then
[375]
as long as there's overlays on your
[377]
screen advertising your event this can
[379]
help promote your event as well if
[381]
capcom posted on their main page but for
[383]
the big channels i don't know it goes
[386]
both ways but then on top of that upon
[388]
receipt of capcom's written notice and
[390]
it's so discretion you must remove match
[392]
footage from streaming platforms and
[393]
remove game assets specified and written
[395]
notice so they're basically saying that
[397]
if capcom wants to though they have the
[400]
right to tell you to get rid of all the
[402]
footage as well so in other words catcom
[404]
has complete control
[406]
over all the footage basically
[408]
they can use it for themselves and they
[409]
can tell you not to use it pretty crazy
[412]
hey hey sorry for the interruption guys
[414]
nighttime future vesper here with two
[416]
more points that i missed when we did a
[419]
previous discussion that i think i could
[420]
need to bring up for sure first one is
[423]
there's another thing when it comes to
[425]
the money cap of these tournaments
[427]
it says you may not charge any fee to
[430]
spectators to participate in an event
[433]
you can't charge spectator fees
[436]
this is another really huge one and it's
[439]
sort of ambiguous too because this
[440]
houses work for like online tournaments
[443]
do they mean if they come to the venue
[446]
i'd still consider a spectator if
[448]
they're playing on the free stations
[450]
this needs to be elaborated for sure and
[452]
this is another thing that will hurt
[453]
tournament organizers
[455]
for gaining revenue for hosting these
[458]
events that cost a lot of money
[460]
and the second one i miss is the
[462]
prohibited sponsors partners in
[464]
advertising prohibited activities
[467]
and it says your event cannot be
[468]
sponsored by companies that sell or
[470]
promote
[472]
and your event cannot be involved with
[474]
any products or services
[476]
let me just skip all this the big thing
[478]
is the vaping
[481]
the alcoholic beverages so not have any
[484]
alcoholic beverages is another big one
[487]
because there are tournaments that are
[488]
being held at bars
[490]
i mean evil's in vegas there's a lot of
[492]
alcohol around so this is just yet
[495]
another problem and another issue when
[497]
it comes to this kind of copy paste
[500]
esports contract
[502]
where you really have to pay attention
[504]
to the game and the tournaments and the
[506]
history of fighting games and really
[508]
look at does this contract represent
[510]
that every game is different and this is
[513]
just another obvious issue i don't know
[515]
man like capcom had something good going
[517]
with they have a good relationship with
[518]
the tournament organizers because this
[520]
stuff is supposed to help tournament
[522]
organizers not just capcom putting their
[524]
foot down and being like yo look we're
[526]
gonna change some rules here okay these
[529]
tournaments there's too much bad stuff
[530]
going on and we need to make sure these
[532]
tournaments are run right it's not like
[533]
that it's supposed to be streamlined and
[536]
friendly really
[538]
so yeah now we have a street fighter 5
[540]
community code of conduct
[544]
so obviously they're going to want to
[546]
save environment but some of these are
[547]
kind of vague and kind of scary right so
[550]
uh prohibited behavior includes but it's
[552]
not limited to the following excessive
[554]
swearing and screaming or threats i mean
[558]
if the guy pops off and swears twice and
[560]
the screaming i mean everyone's
[562]
screaming all the time at tournaments
[564]
you know and harassment they do
[567]
harassment's another vague one too
[569]
because once again if you pop off in
[571]
somebody's face or the other one gets a
[573]
little too hype it could be deemed as
[575]
harassment it's kind of scary right
[577]
because obviously we want our
[578]
environments to be as safe as possible
[580]
because you know bad stuff does happen
[582]
every now and again on tournaments and i
[584]
really like these rules on like you know
[586]
the cheating the collusion especially is
[588]
really annoying there's a lot of weird
[590]
stuff like the lane or slowly
[591]
manipulating gameplay and intentionally
[593]
interrupting network
[595]
connectivity someone pulls the internet
[597]
cord
[598]
they actually do define harassment down
[600]
here there is one good thing about this
[603]
and it says the determination of whether
[605]
a violation of this code economy has
[607]
occurred will be made by you
[609]
based upon the available facts okay so
[612]
this is
[613]
really good because this means it's not
[615]
up to capcom what they deem as
[617]
harassment it's up to the tournament
[619]
tournament organizer thank goodness
[621]
third-party event style guide so they
[624]
give us examples on how to use the
[626]
branding because there's a lot of rules
[629]
here where they really don't want people
[632]
to think that the tournament is ran by
[634]
capcom so right here restrictions
[637]
um you cannot promote your event in a
[639]
way that suggests that your event is
[641]
endorsed by or affiliated with capcom or
[644]
licensors in any manner you cannot use
[646]
catcom's company logos or trademarks to
[649]
promote your event furthermore you must
[651]
include the following statement in a
[652]
prominent place on your event website
[654]
and they have you have to say on your
[655]
website this event is not affiliated
[658]
with or
[660]
it's really funny it's like you must do
[662]
we say and you're not gonna get any help
[665]
from us and we're gonna take no
[666]
responsibility you know it's really
[668]
ridiculous is it harassment if i tea bag
[671]
someone said let me go back to this
[673]
thing here don't you mention that yeah
[675]
so like says physical or cyber violence
[678]
right
[679]
and then it says
[682]
intentionally delaying or slowing or
[687]
if you're manipulating gameplay
[688]
it could be kind of like slowing the
[690]
match because you're not actually
[691]
playing anymore
[692]
serious says insults made during the
[695]
event are not tolerated whether they are
[696]
made in person and or electronically
[701]
including but not limited text messages
[703]
blog posting and or social media
[706]
so it's like everything that revolves
[707]
around the tournament at all but once
[709]
again
[710]
i'm not too worried about this because
[711]
it's up to the tournament organizer if
[714]
it said capcom then you know then it'd
[715]
be super scary so once again capcom is
[718]
really making sure that no one gets
[720]
confused with the cac on turret so it's
[721]
saying look
[722]
if you show street fighter 5 logo bigger
[724]
than your logo
[726]
no if you sow your big brand here and
[728]
then you have the street fighter where
[730]
it's really big no this is how you do it
[732]
the street fighter logo has to be super
[734]
tiny on the third picture this is great
[736]
that they show examples don't morph the
[739]
logo don't move the elements and don't
[741]
change the effects so basically what
[744]
everyone's been doing with the street
[745]
fighter 6 logo for the last week don't
[748]
do
[749]
don't compress it either don't this is
[751]
like mysterious mod don't change the
[754]
fall dude
[755]
dude why would you change the font that
[757]
street fighter 5 logo is already perfect
[759]
that esports license part you could be
[761]
in serious trouble like there's some
[762]
tournament organizers that are like yo
[764]
you know sometimes we have some last
[766]
second people at the door
[768]
and they'll get a basically a flux of
[770]
entries on street fighter 5 and then
[772]
boom they can go over that limit easily
[774]
because they the the money limit is
[776]
throughout the entire year as well it's
[778]
not just for the single event so if you
[780]
have rand bats that get really popular
[783]
then you're screwed if you get if you
[784]
have to go to that esports license part
[786]
right it's really bad we've already had
[789]
a couple of current organizers already
[791]
pull street fighter 5 from their
[793]
tournaments already after reading
[795]
through this and which is really sad and
[798]
so it's already started at this point
[800]
there's already some bad flag from this
[802]
it's just not worth it for them dude it
[804]
was only a matter of time before we got
[806]
to this level dude guy everyone that's
[808]
hype about project l man you think riot
[811]
is not going to make people sign a
[812]
contract riot's contracts are just as
[814]
crazy so this is just like the next step
[816]
that was gonna happen yes people were
[818]
warned and stuff but once again i just
[820]
think this is kind of like not
[822]
incompetence maybe some ignorance but i
[824]
think this was kind of rushed and it
[826]
wasn't communicated well with the other
[828]
eternal organizers because like the
[830]
entire capcom pro tour is very community
[833]
based right it's very community based
[835]
like capcom doesn't run the tournaments
[837]
in the cpt you know the tournament
[838]
organizers do and if the turn organizers
[841]
pull street fighter out they can't have
[842]
a cpt right and esports basically saves
[846]
street fighter 5. if we didn't get to
[848]
see our favorite players playing on the
[849]
stream all the time then you know that
[852]
would have really really hurt the game
[854]
you know what i'm saying so all the
[856]
people that stop playing the game they
[857]
at least still watch the game so
[860]
and capcom has the right to do this they
[862]
have complete rights to do this it's
[864]
their game
[865]
and basically capcom gets complete
[867]
control over how your tournament is ran
[869]
presented and they also get control of
[871]
your content but they also take zero
[874]
responsibility and without having any
[877]
affiliation and it looks like there's no
[878]
benefit to this
[880]
like capcom sending the tournament money
[882]
to help them out right or getting you
[884]
know equipment or a team or you know
[887]
some kind of benefit
[889]
other than the fact that if your term is
[890]
a cpt then pro players have to go there
[892]
but what about for the all this really
[894]
hurts the smaller tournaments i think it
[896]
really does
[897]
and uh it just yeah it just doesn't seem
[899]
friendly that's the best if i can put it
[902]
it just benefits capcom in every single
[904]
way possible without benefiting the the
[907]
turn organizers and
[908]
seriously what does this mean for street
[910]
fighter 6 man
[911]
you know like if they're already pulling
[913]
out there obviously this is gonna
[914]
continue with street fighter six and
[916]
obviously street price is gonna be a
[917]
huge esports game that can rack in some
[920]
major major numbers of people and like
[922]
that's these turn organizers man dude if
[925]
you guys tried running a tournament like
[927]
it's hell dude i've helped running a
[929]
tournament before and it's it's a
[931]
nightmare bro an absolute nightmare and
[934]
to deal with this on top of that i would
[936]
see attorney organizers just not having
[938]
to deal with the headaches seriously
[940]
capcom would be shooting themselves
[942]
right in the foot this would be like an
[943]
absolute disaster anyways uh the story
[946]
continues
[947]
so then capcom posted this uh today
[950]
saying yesterday we published the new
[952]
street fighter 5 community license
[954]
agreement for both the americas our aim
[955]
was to make running an event with street
[957]
fighter 5 easier when touring organizers
[960]
have contacted calcum while running the
[961]
community events with street fighter 5
[962]
in the past the approval process has
[964]
always taken a lot of time we want to
[966]
make the rules clear and to allow for
[968]
much faster approvals we're also keen to
[970]
build tighter relationships with teos
[972]
and to encourage safe spaces to play
[974]
street fighter 5 thank you to everyone
[976]
who has sent us feedback thus far on the
[978]
new agreement and it says we are
[980]
reviewing this feedback with the wider
[982]
capcom team and we'll follow with more
[984]
updates soon
[986]
so damn dude like the fact that capcom
[990]
responded this fast just shows you how
[992]
much kind of bad flack they got already
[994]
i'm sure a lot of the big tournament
[996]
organizers are already talking to capcom
[998]
right now being like yo what the heck
[999]
right there's definitely a lot of stuff
[1001]
going down i wish i knew how much that
[1002]
esports license was man i really do but
[1005]
i mean can't come ignore this on the
[1007]
street fighter 6 logo but they're
[1008]
responding quickly to this so hopefully
[1010]
they can come to some kind of agreement
[1012]
to make this easier because as you guys
[1014]
know the fgc is very grassroots and
[1017]
that's just another way of saying
[1018]
poverty pretty much and like i said
[1021]
we're not big you know rocket league
[1023]
league of legends counter-strike esports
[1026]
we're just not
[1027]
and like i said these numbers are just
[1029]
too low they're just too low man well we
[1032]
know the story is going to continue for
[1033]
a while so i mean i'll keep everyone
[1036]
posted on it but two big uh bumps on the
[1039]
road already not good and obviously i'm
[1042]
looking at this from a street fighter 6
[1043]
perspective looking this in the future
[1045]
and we want to see offline events again
[1047]
man and like
[1048]
now that some offline events are coming
[1050]
back and now we have this it's just like
[1052]
oh man dude you know a lot of this could
[1054]
have been avoided if they just talked to
[1056]
tournament organizers first before
[1058]
announcing this but it just shows that a
[1060]
really like tone depth on the whole
[1062]
situation on like how this really
[1064]
affects the small guys and and how it
[1066]
