sandwich before the end of the week hope
[2]
you got one already welcome back to on
[4]
the move I'm Julie Hyman well most
[6]
Millennials aren't shy about their love
[8]
for travel and in some surveys they
[10]
admit they're willing to spend the money
[11]
to get a top-notch experience so where
[14]
are they making that kind of investment
[15]
timeshare ownership appears to be one
[17]
choice joining us now is Mike philosophy
[19]
the CEO of Diamond Resorts International
[21]
it's a timeshare company so are you
[25]
saying most of your customers I
[26]
personally think of timeshares as more
[29]
of a boomer or an act Generation X kind
[32]
of a thing are you seeing more younger
[33]
people get into it well we've kind of
[35]
led the industry in focusing on
[36]
experiential vacations so what we've
[39]
done is we've gotten heavily involved in
[42]
music and entertainment and so what we
[44]
found is is the millennial demographic
[46]
if you can give them that experience in
[48]
addition to the real estate look we've
[50]
got 437 resorts around the world but
[53]
it's that key experience or model that's
[55]
bring how does that work exactly explain
[57]
to me like an example so if you own with
[59]
Diamond Resorts let's choose Reggie
[61]
Jackson we're in New York New York
[62]
Yankees so Reggie bases in Tampa and we
[65]
take 12 to 15 families a day for the
[68]
home New York Yankees spring training
[70]
games
[71]
Reggie hosts them takes them on the
[73]
field for batting practice sits in the
[75]
suite for nine innings with them answers
[77]
questions takes pictures and then the
[79]
next day they come in and they meet with
[80]
us and they breathe you potentially
[82]
buying a timeshare and we're seeing that
[84]
our close rates nearly double when we
[86]
put them through those experiences
[87]
interesting well it's no surprise to me
[89]
that experiences are a big factor that
[92]
Millennials are looking at people want
[93]
shareability they want to be able to
[94]
post throughout their vacation on the
[96]
Instagram but they also want flexibility
[98]
I would think so you don't want to be
[99]
posting the same things over and over
[101]
again so how has that shaped buying
[103]
patterns that you're seeing
[104]
well our product is a points product
[106]
it's not a traditional fixed week
[108]
product and with this points currency
[110]
they can use it on a daily basis they
[112]
can use it for airline tickets they can
[113]
use it for hotels or they can use it for
[116]
the traditional timeshare or they can
[118]
use it to go do these really cool
[120]
experiences like we're talking about so
[122]
that piece of it is what creates the
[124]
flexibility dynamic that is attractive
[126]
and look with us we've actually seen a
[128]
25% increase in millennial buyers on a
[131]
compounded annual growth
[133]
right now for three years in a row so
[135]
it's pretty exciting so on the
[136]
experience side after you've made the
[138]
initial sale and closing because
[140]
providing a and a very different
[144]
experience than what some would get how
[146]
do you keep them engaged how do you make
[148]
sure that they don't get dissatisfied in
[149]
the future right well we do over 3,000
[152]
of these special unique events in our
[154]
events of a lifetime platform annually
[157]
so what we do on our website is they
[159]
have a password-protected website that
[161]
they can log into and there is an entire
[163]
you know outline of dates and a schedule
[166]
of various events it may be PGA Tour
[168]
golf it may be a culinary experience
[170]
it may be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro it
[173]
may be we do 125 live concerts with the
[176]
likes of cole swindell lee Brice sister
[179]
Hazel you know Lauren Alaina so at our
[182]
resorts when they're on vacation they
[184]
actually can in and get involved in
[187]
these things Mike I want to ask you
[189]
about resale because that has been a
[191]
challenge for the timeshare industry and
[193]
I say this anecdotally frankly because
[195]
my parents my dad still owns a timeshare
[198]
and he said it's difficult if you want
[200]
to get rid of the thing say that you've
[201]
gone into your retirement years you
[203]
don't want it anymore
[204]
your travel patterns have changed
[205]
they're the resale market for this stuff
[208]
is not super robust significantly better
[211]
than it used to be because the credible
[213]
developers now have a program like we
[216]
have transitions where they can reach
[218]
out to us if they fulfilled their
[220]
obligations they've done what they said
[221]
they were going to do they've paid their
[223]
bills their current and their lifestyle
[226]
has changed kids have moved out if they
[229]
reach out to us we have a program that
[231]
will work directly with them to help
[232]
them exit so what what's your favorite
[235]
experience out of your offerings well
[238]
I'm a music guy so I absolutely love
[241]
music and what we're able to provide our
[243]
members to get to come see a Cole
[245]
Swindell who you know had eight
[248]
number-one hits on the radio in a row
[250]
and he plays in front of 18,000 people
[252]
in an arena or he comes to our place and
[255]
plays in front of 250 that's my favorite
[258]
yeah alright Mike thanks for coming to
[259]
my class Casey oh
