hi guys in this video today we're going to聽 talk about the return and ways you should be聽聽
[3]
hitting that return but to begin with the primary聽 objective is to make the return if you missed a聽聽
[8]
return going for a good shot then it doesn't聽 matter your opponents have got a freebie and聽聽
[12]
that really is the opposite objective to pattern聽 now like a low shot simple you want to really聽聽
[17]
weigh up the ratio of risk and being safe so for聽 example you don't want to take a huge risk trying聽聽
[24]
to put your opponents under pressure if there's a聽 good chance that you'll miss it on the other hand聽聽
[28]
you don't want to play so safe that you give your聽 opponents an easy ball that they can attack and聽聽
[32]
therefore be in a dominant position in the point聽 to give you a practical example if your opponents聽聽
[37]
hit a very good serve with slice into that glass聽 and you can't get there before to block it back so聽聽
[43]
you have to play a difficult return off the glass聽 the best thing you can do is just to block it back聽聽
[48]
to the server you don't need to be complicated聽 with the shot you have a nice short backswing聽聽
[52]
you let it come off the glass slightly and just聽 block it back to the server because if you try to聽聽
[58]
go for a lob and you make a mistake then it'll be聽 a waste of that point so if it's difficult block聽聽
[64]
back to the server if it's easy it comes off the聽 glass and you are able all your ability level is聽聽
[69]
higher and you can be a little bit more aggressive聽 and hit down to their feet then that's fine but if聽聽
[74]
it's difficult block it back down to the feet of聽 the server or just to the server if you can now if聽聽
[80]
you watch the world paddle tour you'll see that聽 they serve against the glass and these guys are聽聽
[84]
able to lob from any position that's because their聽 level of paddle is so good that they're not under聽聽
[89]
pressure from even the good serves and that's聽 often why you see that servers they serve either聽聽
[94]
into the middle of the box and you might think wow聽 that's not a very aggressive serve but because the聽聽
[99]
defending at the returners is so good they don't聽 see the need to go for a risk of an aggressive聽聽
[104]
first serve they play that ball in and the world聽 panel tour players can hit almost wherever they聽聽
[109]
like and get the point started like that here聽 you can see a good return down the line to the聽聽
[113]
server can actually set you up to be aggressive聽 in the point it is a little risky coming forward聽聽
[118]
when they're both at net but if you're sensible聽 with your shots you can get away with it when聽聽
[123]
it comes to serve down there's a couple of other聽 things that you need to consider you also need to聽聽
[127]
consider where your opponents are whether they're聽 playing Australian formation or whether they're聽聽
[131]
playing normal formation on their side so if they聽 serve down the tea and you want to hit hard down聽聽
[137]
to them you realize that you're completely out聽 of position for your own side so if you want to聽聽
[142]
play card and flat they're able to block wholly聽 into the corner and then you're really struggling聽聽
[147]
that's why is often a good shot to hit a lob聽 from that ball down the tee and if you're at聽聽
[152]
a higher level if they get an aggressive serve聽 that law will buy you time and even if it is a聽聽
[157]
little bit more of a risk I know often we say to聽 go for the LOB on the easier pool but even though聽聽
[162]
it is a risk it will buy you time to get back聽 in to your position and to continue the point聽聽
[167]
from a good position here you can see there's a聽 very good serve down the middle and the returner聽聽
[172]
even those off-balance he plays a nice high lob to聽 give himself time to get back in that point you'll聽聽
[177]
notice that he uses that lob four times in the聽 whole point when it's stretched down the middle聽聽
[182]
in order to buy himself time to get back into聽 that point a good lob from that center position聽聽
[187]
can also allow your partner to come forward聽 especially when a rally is often cross-court聽聽
[191]
and it's routine to players here a good lob can聽 allow your partners come forward and hopefully get聽聽
[196]
involved in that point in this example you can see聽 that the pair this and end up winning the point聽聽
[200]
even though they're defending for the majority聽 of the time if you watch the professionals you聽聽
[204]
see another type of return they hear and that's聽 often tied to the back and body of the net player聽聽
[209]
and that's something that is a very difficult shot聽 to attack as a volley er so they use that shot a聽聽
[214]
lot in the game is to hit if you're a good level聽 to hit nice and highs that backhand ball ready so聽聽
[219]
they can't really do much and then would have聽 to hit a neutral volley and then continue the聽聽
[223]
point but generally to recap if it's an easy聽 ball all you're a good enough level to hit a聽聽
[228]
lob straightaway or down to the feet of the server聽 either way attacking and putting them under a lot聽聽
[233]
of pressure then I would do that straight away if聽 they hit a good serve and it comes in to slice up聽聽
[238]
the glass or you don't feel like you're capable聽 but hitting a good lot immediately then the best聽聽
[244]
thing you can do is block back to the server聽 ideally by hop below shoulder level so they聽聽
[248]
can't attack that ball and therefore you're in聽 a good neutral position to start that point and聽聽
[253]
hopefully force them back later in the point here聽 you can see that a decent return down to the feet聽聽
[258]
of the server really starts that point off in a聽 neutral position so that we can log on that next聽聽
[263]
ball and then gradually make our way forward聽 to the net when we get the opportunity like聽聽
[268]
most good paddle points there's a bit of back and聽 forth from attacking to defending but eventually聽聽
[272]
the team this end get to the net and we're聽 able to hold that and therefore win the point
