IRS Refund Still Processing - What To Do - YouTube

Yo what's going on guys? I'm here today to talk about your IRS refund status.
[4]
And you might be checking this video because your refund,
[8]
you know, you were probably expecting it weeks or maybe months ago
[12]
but it still says on the IRS website that it's still
[15]
processing, okay. Now if you don't know what I'm talking about,
[18]
there is a tool that you can use to find out where your refund is.
[22]
You're going to google "IRS where's my refund?".
[25]
It's going to take you to an IRS website where you can enter your social security
[29]
number, your filing status, and your expected refund amount.
[32]
and you can see where it is okay. So there's a couple things here. If it
[37]
says that you, that they received your tax return and
[40]
they are still reviewing it, then that means at least they received
[43]
your return. If it's been less than like three weeks since you
[47]
filed your taxes, then this is normal. This is a normal status to be in
[51]
okay. However, if it's been a month or more
[54]
and it still says that your tax refund has been received
[59]
but is still processing, or has not been processed yet, or your refund hasn't been
[63]
processed yet, then that's a little concerning okay.
[66]
That means there might be something going on,
[68]
something else going on there. So the best thing to do here is to call the IRS,
[72]
or to hire somebody to call the IRS for you.
[75]
And I say that because when you call the IRS
[78]
as a taxpayer, it could take you anywhere between one
[82]
to four hours of being on hold before you talk to somebody.
[86]
Now that's, you know, that's a long time. If you hire someone to do it, like a CPA,
[92]
an attorney, like a tax attorney, or an enrolled agent,
[96]
you're essentially going to give them power of attorney over your tax
[100]
account so they can call and talk to the IRS on your behalf.
[104]
Us professionals we get to call a special hotline
[107]
through the IRS and the most, the longest I've ever waited was an hour
[111]
okay. Most of the time it takes me 15 maybe 30 minutes to get through to the
[115]
IRS. So if I have a power of attorney for my
[118]
clients, I can call the IRS, I can talk to the IRS
[121]
for my clients, and get information for them. And I wait for a significantly less
[125]
amount of time. So it might be worth calling a
[128]
professional or somebody to help you with that process. There's no other good
[133]
channels to do this, you know, the tool that they give you,
[137]
the "where's my refund tool" is one of the best things that they've
[140]
got, unless there's more complications. So if there's more
[145]
complications the IRS will either send you a letter,
[148]
or if you don't want to wait, you've got to call them and see what's going on
[152]
alright. So if you need help, if you've been expecting your refund for a while,
[157]
one of the most common things I've been seeing is that refunds have been
[161]
withheld because maybe you owe taxes on a previous year. You know like you
[167]
still owe taxes and you were due a refund, the IRS is going to take your refund and
[171]
apply it to that previous year. And so that's one of the most common
[174]
things I've been seeing with people not getting their refunds.
[178]
If you use the "where's my refund tool" and you've been seeing that
[182]
your refund is still being processed and it's been a
[185]
long ass time, that is the time to call the IRS to see what's going on. If you
[189]
have not received any letter, or any notices, or anything I would
[193]
definitely call them to see what's going on
[195]
okay. And especially if, you know, you don't owe
[198]
any taxes from prior years. With the pandemic going on
[202]
I know that the IRS has been slacking. And not it's not really their fault you
[207]
know, they had to shut down for six, at least six weeks. They had no
[212]
notices or mail going out for at least six weeks. So all
[216]
their stuff is way behind. Regardless, I know plenty of my clients
[220]
who received their refunds timely. So if your refund has not been
[226]
processed, or if you have not received it yet, then there might be something else
[229]
going on and it's worth calling them to find out.
[232]
And if you've tried calling them and you've waited on hold for so long
[235]
it might be time to hire somebody to get through
[238]
for you. To do it quicker. And it might be worth the money, you know, depending on
[242]
how much of a refund you're expecting alright.
[246]
