[10]
and really discussing what type of investor,
[12]
the Robinhood App is most ideal for.
[15]

[19]

[36]
Today we are going over the Robinhood Investing App,
[39]
and we're going to discuss my experience with the app,
[41]
and what you can expect with it's packed in features,
[43]
whether you're a new investor or an experienced trader.
[45]
Now before we jump into today's review of the Robinhood App,
[48]
I do want to briefly mention that,
[49]
if you're new to the Robinhood App,
[50]
and would like to learn more about it after the video,
[52]
definitely feel free to check out my full in depth review
[55]
on my blog @everydayinvesting.com,
[57]
I really break down the Robinhood App fully in depth,
[60]
to help you decide if it's the right investing app to you,
[62]
and also compare it to some other alternatives as well.
[64]
So what exactly is the Robinhood Stock Trading App guys?
[67]
Well, the Robinhood Stock Trading App,
[69]
is a commission-free stock trading app,
[70]
and it's just what it says, it's commission-free.
[72]
So that means there are zero fees to buy stocks,
[75]
there are zero fees to sell any stocks,
[76]
and Robinhood basically allows
[78]
you to invest in thousands of stocks and ETFs,
[81]
and ETFs basically mean "Exchange Traded Funds,"
[84]
which are a basket of related stocks grouped together.
[86]
You can invest in thousands of ETFs or single stocks,
[89]
on Robinhood for zero cost, zero commissions,
[92]
there's also zero monthly account maintenance fees as well.
[95]
I also want to mention guys
[96]
that Robinhood is available on both iOS and Android devices,
[100]
and you can also access it on the web as well.
[102]
Now this is definitely
[103]
an advantage over many traditional brokerages,
[105]
such as E-Trade or TD Ameritrade or Fidelity for example,
[109]
because those traditional brokerages,
[111]
charge anywhere from five to $7 per trade,
[114]
that is five to $7 every time
[115]
you want to buy or sell some stocks.
[117]
With Robinhood, you don't have those commissions
[119]
to eat away your profits,
[121]
especially if you're a newer investor
[122]
or a newer stock trader,
[124]
saving on those commissions really
[125]
is a definite advantage in your favor.
[127]
Now I do think it's worth mentioning
[129]
that well, Robinhood does save you largely on commissions,
[131]
they do lack a bit
[132]
when it comes to research and data packed into the app.
[135]
Many of those larger traditional brokerages I mentioned,
[137]
such as E-Trade and TD Ameritrade,
[139]
they do charge the commissions,
[141]
but they pack in a lot more data analysis and research,
[143]
for you to make more educated trades.
[146]
Now with Robinhood, it's a very simple app,
[147]
it's easy to use, and in that simplicity though,
[150]
it does lack research.
[151]
So for example,
[153]
this is the homepage dashboard of Robinhood here,
[155]
it'll show you your portfolio value at the current moment,
[158]
right now the value
[159]
of the portfolio is changing in real time,
[161]
because the stock market is open
[162]
at the time that I'm filming this video,
[164]
so you will see the portfolio
[166]
on Robinhood, the value fluctuating in real time.
[169]
Now on the homepage here,
[171]
it will show you a live tracker
[173]
of your investment portfolio on Robinhood,
[175]
it'll show you your performance over the past day,
[177]
as well as over the past week, over the past month,
[179]
over the past three months, over the past year,
[182]
and of course all time on the very end as there as well.
[185]
So you really, it does break it down there for you,
[188]
but it's very simple.
[189]
Now, just the same if you click on any stock
[192]
that you own, or that you are watching,
[194]
because you can also watch stocks and Robinhood,
[196]
let's say for example, you want to click on Amazon,
[198]
this will be the same for any stuff you want to look at,
[201]
it'll show you the stock's current price,
[203]
its current performance over the past day,
[205]
over the past week, over the past month,
[207]
over the past three months, over the past year,
[209]
and over the past five years.
[211]
And really all you get are simple line charts here,
[214]
which breakdown the performance of the stock,
[218]
or you also get simple candle charts,
[220]
which are very simple as well.
[221]
So the charts are really not that advanced,
[224]
they're very basic.
[226]
Now for most longterm investors,
[227]
if you're a longterm investor, this is not a problem at all,
[230]
because you're buying these stocks or ETFs commission-free,
[234]
and you're holding onto them for longterm growth,
[236]
especially if you're buying dividend stocks,
[238]
or any stocks that you want to hold on to for the longterm,
[240]
you really don't need to worry about the lack of charts,
[244]
and data packed into Robinhood.
[246]
But if you're an active stock trader,
[247]
the lack of charts and data and Robinhood,
[250]
might be a bit of a hindrance for you.
[252]
You may want to consider
[253]
an app like the Webull App, for example,
[254]
which is also a commission-free stock trading app,
[256]
wherever it does packing
[258]
a lot more free research data and charts.
[260]
Now further on beneath that,
[262]
you will see for every stock in Robinhood,
[263]
it'll show you
[264]
how many shares you currently own of that stock,
[266]
the current value of that stock, as well as
[269]
how much the percentage it makes in your portfolio.
[271]
It'll show you your return for that stock today,
[274]
as well as your total return for that stock,
[276]
since you've owned it.
[277]
Beneath that, you'll see some brief statistics on the stock,
[280]
as well as some recent news as well,
[282]
they upload news every day for every stock,
[284]
from major places, such as CNBC,
[286]
Washington Post, et cetera, places like that.
[289]
And lastly, you will see some analyst ratings,
[291]
it'll give you some idea,
[293]
of what the analysts are saying
[294]
in terms of buying, holding, or selling the stock,
[297]
and give you some more info,
[298]
as well as some quarterly earning information.
[300]
So that's just one example of a stock in Robinhood,
[302]
but you can literally invest or trade
[304]
in thousands of stocks and ETFs on the Robinhood App.
[307]
Now, if you want to search for a particular stock,
[310]
you simply click
[311]
that search button right there in the middle,
[312]
and it'll also show you popular collections,
[314]
such as the hundred most popular stocks here.
[317]
It'll show you what people are trading
[318]
and investing in right now.
[320]
But if you want to buy a particular stock,
[321]
you can search for it as well.
[322]
So you want to invest in Starbucks,
[324]
you can go to the search button,
[326]
click in, type in Starbucks,
[330]
and boom it'll take you right to Starbucks,
[332]
you can see the current price
[333]
and performance of Starbucks as well,
[335]
and if you want to add this to your watch list
[337]
to buy at a later time,
[339]
simply click that plus button right there,
[341]
and now you're now watching Starbucks,
[343]
you'll keep track of its performance over time.
[345]
Now if you want to buy an actual stock in Robinhood,
[347]
I do have a more in depth video
[349]
going over the different order types in Robinhood,
[351]
on both how to buy
[352]
and how to sell stocks, ETFs, in Robinhood.
[354]
I'll link up those videos up on top,
[356]
if you want to learn more about how to do that.
[357]
But just to give you a brief overview on Robinhood,
[360]
if you want to buy any particular stock,
[362]
you simply open it up,
[363]
click the buy button there on the bottom, right?
[365]
You'll then have the option to choose
[366]
how many shares you want to buy of that stock,
[368]
as well as choose
[369]
from various different advanced order types.
[371]
Now Robinhood does offer different order types,
[374]
such as market orders, limit orders,
[376]
stop loss orders and stop limit orders.
[378]
And again, the order types video I did on Robinhood,
[381]
order types does go more in depth on each of those,
[383]
for both buying and selling,
[384]
so be sure to check out those videos,
[386]
if you want to learn more and how to do either of those.
[388]
But let's back up out of there now,
[389]
there just to give you a brief overview
[391]
on buying and selling on Robinhood.
[393]
Now if you're a new investor,
[394]
you may just want to use market order,
[396]
that simply means you buy or sell at the current price
[399]
that that stock is priced at.
[400]
Whereas the limit order is a little more advanced,
[403]
but essentially a limit order basically locks in and buys,
[406]
or sells at the price that you want to buy or sell it.
[409]
Now one thing I particularly like about limit orders
[411]
is that it lets you automate your trades,
[413]
so you don't have to be by your phone,
[415]
constantly watching your phone
[416]
to see when's the right time to buy or sell it.
[419]
You can have it Robinhood automated for you,
[421]
buy and sell for you,
[423]
on your behalf at your desired price points.
[425]
Another feature with the Robinhood App
[426]
is they do offer extended hours trading,
[429]
and it is completely free.
[430]
So you can trade on Robinhood,
[432]
both before and after the stock market closes,
[434]
for some extended trading hours.
[436]
Now they do say here that, their pre-market trading hours,
[439]
the market opens 30 minute,
[441]
Robinhood's trading opens up 30 minutes,
[444]
before the stock market opens,
[445]
and Robinhood's after hours trading,
[447]
they are open two hours after the stock market closes.
[451]
So you do have an extra two and a half hours a day,
[453]
to trade in Robinhood,
[454]
that you wouldn't have
[455]
on many other traditional investment brokerages.
[458]
Now another feature worth mentioning on the Robinhood App
[460]
is actually called a Robinhood Crypto.
[462]
So Robinhood now actually,
[463]
allows you to trade cryptocurrency,
[466]
just the same, commission-free as you can trade stocks.
[469]
So if you go to your main homepage of Robinhood here,
[472]
so for example, you can click on Bitcoin here,
[474]
and just the same as stocks,
[476]
it'll show you the current price of Bitcoin,
[478]
and you can choose to buy or sell as well,
[480]
again you can choose various different order types,
[483]
actually either a market order or limit order,
[485]
and I have a more in depth video on Robin and Crypto,
[488]
I'll link to a video up above,
[489]
if you want to learn more on Robin and Crypto.
[491]
But essentially it allows you to buy and sell,
[492]
Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum,
[494]
and a couple of other cryptocurrencies commission-free.
[497]
Now one cool thing I like about cryptocurrency,
[499]
is that the market never closes,
[501]
you can trade Bitcoin
[502]
and other cryptocurrencies on Robinhood, 24/7,
[505]
again commissioned free,
[506]
and there are no ending to the trading hours.
[508]
You can literally trade 24/7, 365.
[511]
Another feature Robinhood offers
[512]
is actually called Robinhood Options,
[514]
now this is options trading.
[516]
This is a more advanced type of trading
[517]
that allows you to go long and stocks you believe in,
[519]
and short stocks that you don't believe in.
[521]
Now I personally myself don't use options trading,
[524]
but if you are an options trader,
[525]
it is free to use on Robinhood, again commissioned free,
[528]
just like regular stock trading.
[530]
But essentially you can sign up inside the Robinhood App,
[532]
and basically short stocks
[534]
which can not do without options trading.
[536]
But again, that is something for more advanced traders,
[539]
I probably wouldn't recommend it for newer investors
[541]
because it can be a little more overwhelming.
[543]
So again I know you may be wondering,
[545]
are there any fees to use Robinhood at all?
[547]
And again guys, the answer is no,
[549]
there are no commissions,
[550]
there are no monthly maintenance fees,
[552]
Robinhood is a completely free app.
[553]
Now they do have
[554]
an upgraded account option called Robinhood Gold,
[557]
which is $5 a month and again, this is optional,
[560]
if you want an upgrade for some upgraded features.
[562]
Now the features you get with Robinhood Gold,
[564]
they give you more advanced research,
[566]
they give you access to bigger instant deposits,
[568]
and the next thing they offer is access to margin trading.
[571]
Margin trading essentially means that
[573]
you are investing with borrowed money,
[574]
you're trading with borrowed money
[576]
that you're borrowing from Robinhood.
[578]
So I wouldn't recommend margin trading
[580]
for new investors or for new traders,
[582]
if you're an advanced trader
[583]
and you have experience with margin trading,
[585]
you may want to consider this Robinhood Gold,
[587]
but that essentially means
[588]
you're trading with borrowed money.
[590]
I personally myself don't use margin trading,
[592]
because it does have some risk involved,
[594]
because you're using again, borrowed money that's not yours.
[597]
All right guys, so now I want to briefly go over
[599]
who I would recommend the Robinhood app for,
[601]
versus who I would not recommend it for.
[603]
This is basically
[603]
the pros and cons of Robinhood part of the video,
[606]
to help you decide,
[607]
if it's the right investing option for you.
[609]
So the first pro for the Robinhood App is,
[612]
I think it's definitely ideal for new traders.
[615]
The reason is, there are zero commissions to trade,
[618]
so if you're just getting into stock trading,
[620]
this is great because
[621]
you won't have commissions eating away at your profits.
[624]
You'll also notice
[625]
that the Robinhood App does have a very clean interface,
[627]
it's very easy to use whether you have iOS or Android,
[630]
everything's simple.
[631]
And if everything is easy to navigate,
[633]
it's a very user friendly app.
[635]
The second pro with the Robinhood App is I would say
[637]
that it is another good option for even experienced traders,
[640]
who want to save on commissions.
[642]
So even if you're an experienced trader,
[644]
who's used traditional brokerages,
[646]
such as E-Trade or Fidelity,
[648]
you may want to consider the Robinhood App,
[650]
simply to save on commission.
[651]
So you don't have to have five to $7
[653]
eat away at your commissions per every trade,
[656]
that's definitely another pro for Robinhood.
[658]
And the third pro I would say for the Robinhood App,
[660]
is it does allow you to invest in cryptocurrency.
[663]
Again, many traditional brokerages
[665]
don't allow you to invest in cryptocurrency,
[667]
you often have to sign up
[668]
for a cryptocurrency exchange such as Coinbase.
[671]
Now Robinhood does allow you to trade,
[673]
buy and sell a couple cryptocurrencies, not all,
[677]
but a couple of the main ones on Robinhood,
[679]
on their platform through Robinhood Crypto.
[681]
So if you're looking to trade cryptocurrency,
[683]
in addition to stocks,
[684]
the Robinhood App gives you a lot of value,
[686]
in both of those regards.
[688]
Now let's discuss the cons of the Robinhood App.
[690]
The first con with the Robinhood App is I would say,
[693]
it's not as ideal for those
[694]
who are more into passive investing and longterm investing.
[698]
The Robinhood App is more designed for active stock trading.
[701]
Now don't get me wrong, you can buy and hold,
[703]
you can invest in stocks,
[704]
and buy and hold them on the Robinhood App,
[707]
and just hold them for the longterm as well.
[709]
But most of the features inside the Robinhood App,
[712]
are geared towards active stock trading,
[714]
with their buy and sell features, zero commissions,
[717]
and the features of Robinhood Gold,
[719]
if you want to upgrade,
[720]
a lot of those features, extended hours trading,
[722]
a lot of those features
[723]
are geared towards active stock traders.
[726]
If you're a longterm investor
[728]
looking to buy and hold investments, invest more passively,
[732]
then you may not, you may,
[733]
this may not be the ideal option for you,
[735]
because again, it is more ideal for active stock traders.
[737]
If you're looking to be more of a longterm investor
[740]
and get started with that,
[741]
you may want to consider an app instead,
[742]
like the M1 Finance App, or the Acorns Investing App,
[745]
those are more geared towards longterm investing.
[748]
And the second con with Robinhood App is I would say,
[751]
it's not as ideal
[752]
for completely new investors to the stock market.
[755]
Now don't get me wrong,
[756]
the Robinhood App is a very user friendly app,
[758]
and it's very clean and simple,
[761]
but it's more geared towards stock trading.
[764]
If you're just getting into investing,
[765]
you may want to look to,
[766]
into something that's a little less overwhelming,
[769]
such as the Acorns App, or the M1 Finance App,
[771]
those apps are investing apps,
[773]
they give you less investment options,
[775]
but they give you more diversified portfolios,
[778]
which is a little easier to start off with,
[779]
if you're just getting into investing.
[781]
And the third con with a Robinhood App is,
[783]
if you're actually an advanced stock trader,
[785]
the lack of research built into their free account,
[788]
may not be enough for you.
[789]
If you're an advanced stock trader,
[791]
you might want to consider
[792]
an app like the Webull Stock Trading App,
[794]
which is a commission-free stock trading app,
[796]
just like Robinhood, but it has tons
[798]
of more data research and analysis packed in.
[802]
Now again like I said,
[803]
if you're more of a longterm investor,
[805]
the lack of data on Robinhood will not make a difference.
[808]
But if you're an active stock trader,
[809]
that is something to consider.
[811]
So if you've made it to the end of the video,
[812]
and you still aren't sure
[813]
if the Robinhood Investing App is the right app for you,
[816]
I encourage you to check out my full in depth review
