hi everyone I'm Gabi I'm Jay welcome to

our new channel where we want to share

our journey to early retirement

[14]

after setting this goal for ourselves we

[16]

have found many helpful blogs and

[18]

articles with great information but

[21]

nothing in this format or at least

[24]

nothing that really details everything

[26]

that needs to happen before

[28]

systematically in order to get to that

[30]

point of retirement we don't expect this

[33]

journey to be easy there are some

[35]

financial and overall changes that need

[37]

to happen in our lives we also know it's

[40]

a very ambitious goal but we figured

[42]

there must be others like us trying to

[45]

make it happen or at least thinking

[47]

about it so we hope sharing our

[49]

experience can help someone out there so

[51]

a little bit about us we live in Texas

[53]

it's a beautiful spring day I am

[57]

originally from Chicago and I moved to

[59]

Texas about 15 years ago I have two

[62]

brothers and a sister plethora of aunts

[65]

and uncles and my mom and we live all

[67]

over the US

[69]

I'm originally from Peru I still have

[72]

lots of family there I also lived in

[74]

Venezuela for 20 years and then moved

[77]

here about 11 years ago I have three

[80]

brothers but only one lives nearby my

[83]

parents though they live in Mexico City

[85]

we love visiting them and despite us all

[88]

being apart we are very close so what we

[91]

do for work also is really important to

[94]

us I am an IT nerd I've been doing it

[97]

for a really long time I've worked

[98]

everything from pharmaceuticals and

[100]

health care and a higher education to

[103]

oil and gas needless to say the current

[106]

economic troubles have been very trying

[109]

for everyone we have been extremely

[111]

fortunate in that we haven't yet been

[115]

by any layoffs or furloughs I'm an

[118]

education I was a bilingual teacher for

[121]

years still a teacher at heart

[122]

eventually I became a school

[124]

administrator but very quickly realized

[127]

that was not my calling now I work with

[130]

school leaders and teachers who are

[131]

innovating to reimagine what the school

[134]

experience can be in order to really

[136]

prepare students for the future it's a

[139]

really cool job sometimes challenging

[141]

never boring and incredibly rewarding so

[144]

what's our goal what's the point of

[146]

doing this we realized very early on in

[149]

our relationship that we love traveling

[152]

it is one of the best things to do and

[155]

we want to see everything in the world

[157]

so far we have been to Mexico Peru

[162]

Brazil Thailand Spain and Portugal in

[167]

Canada and Canada yeah and soon we're

[169]

gonna start planning our next adventure

[171]

so we also realize we're not getting any

[174]

younger and we want to be young enough

[177]

to enjoy all the travel we want to do in

[179]

all the places we want to see and the

[180]

primary way we're going to get to that

[182]

goal those goals right is to be

[184]

financially independent or retired

[186]

within the next six to eight years well

[189]

we're really aiming for six

[191]

the goal is 2026 so we'll see awesome so

[194]

like we've been saying travels our

[196]

ultimate goal we want to spend the rest

[198]

of our lives traveling in order to do so

[200]

we want to retire not to just one place

[203]

but to all of the places where the cost

[205]

of living is relatively low and the

[207]

value of the dollar is high and we know

[211]

that's a little problematic at the

[213]

moment but it'll get better we already

[215]

have a few places that we want to spend

[217]

at least two to five years living in and

[219]

exploring the surrounding areas before

[221]

we move on somewhere else almost like

[223]

having a home base in each part of the

[225]

world absolutely but the world is large

[228]

and beautiful and amazing and we want to

[232]

see all of it to make this happen we

[235]

have to make some real changes other

[237]

lives for sure that is actually our

[240]

journey absolutely biggest one financial

[243]

how do you save enough money to have the

[245]

retirement you want while still living

[247]

your life right now

[249]

downsizing when you want to move as much

[252]

as we plan to move everything you own

[255]

and take with you has to have a purpose

[257]

or be important to you we also want to

[260]

be better travelers not only being more

[262]

efficient about it but also thinking

[264]

about all the cultures we're gonna have

[266]

the opportunity to see and we need to be

[270]

in better health for the lifestyle we

[271]

want there's a lot of things that are

[274]

off the beaten path and you need to be

[276]

able to walk there or climb there and

[279]

there are things we haven't even

[281]

discovered yet there's things we don't

[282]

know that's part of the journey also so

[285]

we've been thinking about starting this

[287]

channel for a while and now with

[290]

everything going on in the world and

[291]

having to stay at home we figured it was

[293]

a good time to start

[295]

we are both like we said incredibly

[297]

lucky to have jobs that allow us to

[299]

continue working from home but we also

[301]

know many don't have that luxury so if

[305]

America org as a teacher as an educator

I know that with schools being closed

[315]

many children no longer have a secure

[317]

meal every day so please donate if you

us this is our journey we hope to take
