Bear Trap Power - YouTube

Channel: The Slow Mo Guys

[0]
- Hello, I'm Gav. - I'm Dan.
[2]
Welcome to "The Super Slow Show"--
[3]
Dan, we've done mousetraps.
[5]
- We've done mousetraps. - We've done rat traps.
[7]
So what's bigger than a mouse and bigger than a rat?
[9]
- Oh, a bear. - A bear.
[11]
Right, okay, I see how you've stepped up there.
[13]
So we've got a bear trap, we've got the spin rig,
[16]
and we're gonna get the hell over here
[18]
because this thing terrifies me.
[19]
Yeah, I don't wanna get annihilated by that arm.
[21]
- I'm just gonna go way... - I'll follow your lead.
[23]
Yeah.
[24]
( theme music playing )
[33]
Curious to see how powerful this is
[35]
against an actual bone,
[36]
an organically grown bone.
[39]
So its actual purpose, then, basically,
[40]
rather than, like, things it's not supposed to be crushing.
[43]
- Yeah, yeah, okay. - Luckily I have a bone.
[45]
- Turkey leg. - Yeah, well, a turkey leg.
[47]
Gav: Imagine, if you will,
[49]
am entire turkey leg.
[51]
Ignore this part.
[53]
This is a turkey.
[54]
Who strayed into the forest.
[57]
For some reason, it's already been marinated.
[60]
- Barbecue. - All right, go for it.
[63]
Oh! Jeez, that is quick.
[67]
Good night, it's dripping.
[69]
Oh, it's juicy.
[70]
Let me just try to get my leg out.
[73]
( grunting )
[76]
You can hear it. The meat is squealing.
[79]
- That is-- - No, it's just not gonna happen.
[81]
That is-- That you're not getting out of that.
[83]
I think we've demonstrated successfully
[85]
the power of this bear trap.
[86]
Yeah, for sure.
[90]
You know, I got the dream of drams.
[91]
Put these on.
[92]
Doubt they're gonna help you, but all right.
[95]
Well, you know.
[96]
- Let's start the spinner. - Spinner up.
[98]
( whirring )
[108]
What if you were hit by that thing?
[109]
- Like being hit by a car. - God.
[112]
Orange soda-- all ready to go. Loaded up.
[115]
That thing is hauling now.
[117]
- Dan: Ready? - Cameras on.
[119]
I'm gonna have to time it. And... now.
[122]
- Ooh. - Nailed it.
[124]
- Oooh, flip. - Lovely little puff.
[128]
Gav: Poor thing doesn't know what's about to happen to it.
[130]
Dan: Here we go. Here's impact.
[132]
Ready...
[135]
- Dan: Ooh. - Gav: That looks lovely.
[140]
Looks like bullet-time orange soda.
[146]
- Very hypnotizing. - Dan: Yeah.
[149]
Dan: It reaches the apex, and then it's just floating.
[151]
Just got balls floating.
[153]
They are so weird. And then you've got the air
[155]
sort of coming up under some of these globules.
[157]
- Oh, look at that. - The globs are really far apart.
[159]
You can really tell the spin.
[161]
That's amazing. I like it when there's--
[163]
Oh, there's us.
[164]
Oh, I didn't wave. I meant to wave.
[166]
You had a lot to think about.
[168]
I did, yeah.
[174]
Let's go for a reset.
[177]
So I've only ever seen these bear traps in cartoons,
[181]
where they, like, get a stick and they test it or whatever.
[183]
It just looks so terrifying.
[184]
It just looks like something nobody should be near.
[187]
Well, I'm used to setting mousetraps, right?
[189]
So this is definitely--
[191]
I'm even sure I can watch it.
[193]
Are you sure you're doing it right?
[194]
'Cause it looks brutal.
[196]
- It is. - Like, I'm already picturing a gruesome...
[198]
Right, so this gets lifted.
[200]
- Okay. - All right, good.
[202]
- And now it's set. - All right...
[204]
- Now we can-- - Don't put your head in it.
[207]
That's got about 6 to 900 pounds of pressure,
[212]
which is about the same as a bear's jaw.
[214]
Do you get the irony of it?
[216]
Yeah. The tension on that is beefy.
[218]
- Yeah. - Which is pretty cool.
[220]
And the tension between us...
[230]
I bet a bear trap would eat two cans of paint.
[231]
- Yeah? - Eat 'em right up.
[233]
- For breakfast? - Right.
[234]
- Well, let's find out. You ready? - Yeah.
[236]
Three, two, one...
[237]
( hissing )
[238]
- Oh. - Ooh.
[240]
I got orange, right?
[242]
Purple was the other one.
[243]
Yep, purple and orange.
[244]
It was a Rimmy Tim.
[246]
Just sort of chewed it open. Didn't it?
[249]
Just floating-- paint cans.
[251]
Gav: It's so surreal, this footage.
[260]
- Dan: Oh... - Gav: Man.
[264]
Dan: Just gets eaten...
[266]
Gav: It's cool how you see a thick paint
[268]
in the middle and it's misting at the side of it.
[272]
On to the next thing?
[274]
Why don't we do something solid, something that will shatter?
[276]
Ooh.
[277]
I've got a mirror loaded,
[279]
one by one foot.
[281]
Camera's hauling ass.
[282]
- Is... pretty-- - Okay, I'm gonna drop.
[285]
Now!
[287]
Now.
[289]
Now.
[290]
( together ) Oh!
[292]
- Success. - Devastating mess.
[294]
What I'm glad about is that it shattered
[296]
into loads of pieces, rather than just, like, four pieces.
[298]
That's just what I was after.
[301]
Oh, there's us.
[302]
Here it comes. Here it comes.
[304]
Oh...
[308]
( both imitate shattering )
[310]
Gav: Lovely.
[312]
That's cool.
[314]
Pretty good, eh?
[324]
Spitting bits of glass going everywhere.
[326]
Lovely glittering mess.
[328]
Dan: Look at that.
[340]
Good variety of things been chomped there.
[342]
Yeah, I think one of the scariest moments
[344]
from anything we've ever filmed
[346]
was watching you put your hand in a bear trap.
[348]
I know you were just setting it, but--
[350]
Do you know what I did? I enjoyed having my hand in there
[352]
and watching your face just be like ( groans ).
[354]
I'm glad. I'm glad you got--
[355]
And you get enjoyment from me worrying about you.
[358]
That's the last time I'm worrying about you from now on.
[360]
Oh, come on.
[362]
Well, this is what it would've done to my arm anyway.
[363]
Look at the state of this?
[365]
Would've made a mess of a leg.
[367]
That's one of the teeth from the bear trap, just chomping in there.
[370]
One of my favorite things we chucked in there was the mirror.
[372]
- Oh, yeah. - Just all the smashed glass
[375]
'cause the tiny pieces kept reflecting stuff.
[376]
It was like a deconstructed disco ball
[379]
spinning around.
[381]
- Well done. Good, good, yeah. - Thank you.
[382]
Well, I hope you enjoyed that,
[384]
and we'll see you in the next video.
[389]
- There was sumo wrestling. - The magnet smash.
[392]
- The ice sculpture explosion. - Three-stone smash.
[394]
Yeah, that was really messy.
[396]
I wonder. What's your favorite?
