[0]
let us get senator cotton's perspective
[2]
senator cotton welcome thank you very
[4]
much for coming on we appreciate it and
[6]
just ask you um what you think about
[9]
this whole
[10]
infrastructure gang of 22 story
[13]
as what we know or don't know what are
[15]
you thinking
[17]
well larry what we've learned today is
[18]
that the goal posts have indeed been
[20]
moving it's like when college kids tear
[21]
them down after a big upside
[23]
and carry them outside the stadium
[24]
they've moved so far
[26]
i think a lot of this goes back to chuck
[28]
schumer trying to both uh
[30]
bring home a lot of pork for new york
[31]
city but also blow up the bill
[33]
if he can't get exactly what he wants uh
[35]
one of the main sticking points is
[37]
transit funding for buses and subways
[40]
and
[40]
uh commuter rail now i get that's
[42]
important to chuck schumer but it's not
[43]
important to a lot of the country let me
[45]
just give you one example
[46]
of the kind of massive spending that
[48]
schumer and the democrats are demanding
[50]
we spend about 13 billion dollars a year
[52]
on transit
[54]
in the last 12 months from the start of
[56]
the pandemic we spent an extra
[58]
70 billion dollars more than five times
[60]
what we spend in a single year
[62]
that is more than combined budget of
[64]
every transit agency
[66]
in america that schumer and the
[68]
democrats are coming back for tens of
[69]
billions of dollars more i mean
[71]
what do they plan to do rip out every
[74]
rail
[75]
in the new york city subway and replace
[76]
it with golden rails are they going to
[78]
replace all their buses with buses made
[80]
by lamborghini
[81]
i mean there's 40 billion dollars of
[83]
this money that is not even spent yet
[85]
so this is a last minute play by chuck
[87]
schumer and the democrats
[88]
to waste even more of the taxpayers
[91]
dollars and barring that
[92]
to blow up the bill in the first place
[94]
and try to blame republicans but i think
[95]
most americans will recognize
[97]
that it's the democrats reckless taxing
[99]
and spending schemes
[101]
that cause this bill to fail if it does
[103]
in fact fail
[104]
senator is this a gateway to the five
[107]
trillion dollar
[109]
tax and spend and regulate and green new
[111]
deal entitlement bill
[113]
as some critics are saying
[116]
and president trump has been
[118]
increasingly forceful
[120]
about um opposing the deal is it a
[122]
gateway drug
[123]
is it something that should be avoided
[125]
or is there some good left in it
[128]
well larry i'm afraid it may be you know
[130]
joe biden tipped his hand
[132]
last month when he came out and
[133]
celebrated with republicans and
[135]
democrats alike they had a deal
[137]
and then two hours later he said that he
[138]
would veto the deal which is the
[140]
quickest
[140]
quickest backtrack or flip-flop i've
[142]
seen in my time in washington
[144]
nancy pelosi reiterated the same point
[146]
last week she said that she wouldn't
[148]
even bring up a bipartisan
[150]
infrastructure bill that had passed the
[151]
senate for a vote until
[153]
the senate passes her three and a half
[156]
trillion dollar reckless taxing and
[157]
spending scheme
[158]
if that's your position i can tell you
[160]
there's not going to get a lot of
[161]
republican votes and it's going to put a
[162]
lot of
[162]
vulnerable democrats in congress at risk
[165]
as well
[166]
i mean that's right she said yesterday
[168]
on one of the new shows exactly that
[171]
it's actually more than linking the two
[173]
she's just saying they're not going to
[174]
vote on infrastructure
[176]
until the senate votes on some sort of
[179]
reconciliation package for the entire 5
[181]
trillion
[182]
but we don't have a package yet and i
[184]
don't know when such a package would be
[186]
done
[187]
so i mean i i get i get sort of pissed
[190]
off at that actually excuse my language
[194]
well larry uh a lot of senators and
[196]
congressmen are frustrated as well we
[197]
have an infrastructure bill with no
[199]
legislative tax and we have a three and
[201]
a half trillion dollar spending blowing
[202]
up
[203]
with no bill either uh and look this is
[206]
the wrong
[206]
time to be spending trillions of more
[209]
dollars
[210]
that we don't have everything from gas
[212]
to groceries
[214]
to basic home commodities are
[216]
skyrocketing in price
[217]
people are filling it in their
[218]
pocketbook at the end of every week
[220]
yet the democrats are just going to keep
[222]
fanning the flames keep throwing more
[224]
money
[224]
under the economy at a time when it's
[226]
recovering and keep paying people not to
[228]
work so supply chains are not getting
[230]
back to normal and getting healthy again
[232]
it's the democrats that are responsible
[233]
for these skyrocketing prices and these
[235]
bills are only going to contribute even
[237]
more
[238]
senator cotton what do you think about
[239]
our friend lindsey graham's idea
[242]
that if push comes to shove and it looks
[244]
like the democrats
[245]
you know might get their 50-50 with a
[248]
tiebreaker by
[249]
v paris 51 that
[253]
go for no quorum just walk out of the
[255]
senate
[256]
no quorum means no vote and no vote
[259]
saves america
[260]
that's essentially my interpretation of
[262]
lindsey graham he's a dear friend he's
[264]
the dear friend of yours but what do you
[265]
think of that
[266]
i mean i think it's worth considering
[269]
well
[269]
i know all those texas democrats have
[271]
sconded across state lines for
[272]
washington bringing a bunch of
[273]
coronavirus cases with them the
[275]
difference we have is that
[276]
of course we're within the jurisdiction
[278]
of the united states so i don't know
[279]
maybe lindsay plans to
[280]
go to the virgin islands and swim across
[282]
the channel to the british island so he
[283]
can get outside
[284]
but you're senators your senators they
[287]
they can't arrest the senator or maybe
[289]
they can't i don't know we've never had
[290]
that before
[292]
what i i think i think i think the
[295]
better course of action would be for us
[297]
to battle this out the court of public
[298]
opinion look it's already unpopular to
[300]
pay people not to work to give welfare
[302]
checks to people without even making an
[303]
effort to work or get job training
[305]
and to raise taxes uh these things are
[308]
all unpopular and i think we can win
[310]
that debate by having that debate once
[312]
we get the bill out there once the
[313]
people realize
[314]
exactly what joe biden the democrats are
[316]
doing going for broke
[317]
in this narrow window before they lose
[319]
an election next year trying to spend
[321]
trillions of dollars that we don't have
[323]
spot on senator tom cotton appreciate it
[325]
very much sir hope you come back soon
