AsalaamuWalaikum!
[14]
Happy Eid to everyone in advance.
[17]
On the occasion of Eid, today I will show how to make Chotpoti.
[21]
I shared the special chotpoti masala recipe yesterday with you guys
[26]
And today I will make this chotpoti using that same masala
[30]
Not only those of you who are staying abroad, even those staying in the country are now-a-days deprived of the taste of phuchka and chotpoti due to the lockdown
[40]
So why not have Chotpoti or phuchka in the Eid breakfast table this time!
[45]
I have already shared phuchka recipe with you guys
[48]
Today, I am sharing the perfect chotpoti recipe with the sour tamarind water.
[53]
Hope you will like this.
[59]
Firstly, we will prepare sour tamarind water.
[61]
For that, I am taking 1/2 cup tamarind in a bowl
[67]
You can use old or new, any kind of tamarind for this
[69]
And to extract the pulp of tamarind, it is best to soak the tamarind for some time
[75]
I have soaked this for 10 minutes with some water.
[79]
When you see the tamarind has softened a bit, crush it in water to extract and mix the tamarind juice into water.
[88]
And press it like this to remove the tamarind seeds or any such flaky parts.
[96]
Depending on whether you want a liquid or concentrated tamarind extract, add appropriate amount of water to it.
[102]
But for chotpoti, I will make the tamarind extract a bit concentrated, you can dilute it if you want.
[110]
We have extracted the pulp, now we will add the remaining ingredients to it.
[116]
Firstly, I am adding 1 tsp salt
[120]
Add the salt as per your taste
[123]
Next, I am adding 1/2 tsp black salt
[127]
Next, we are adding 2 tbsp sugar, you can also add jaggery and increase the quantity
[134]
I have fried and crushed 1 dry chilly in my hand
[138]
I have taken some finely chopped chilly so that both the heat and flavor of chilly can be assimilated in the dish
[144]
That's why I am crushing it lightly
[147]
Now, I am adding chopped lemon peel to it, which brings out a very nice flavor in the sour dish
[153]
You can omit it as well if you want
[155]
Next, I am adding 1 tsp chotpoti masala
[159]
you can also add store brought chat masala
[162]
Now, as soon as we mix everything, our sour tamarind water is ready
[167]
As you can see, I have made it quite concentrated
[170]
You can make it either more or less concentrated as you desire.
[176]
To make today's chotpoti, I have chosen a shortcut method
[180]
I am using the canned dabli which will save me a lot of time
[185]
If you want, you can also soak dabli overnight and then boil it in sufficient amount of water
[192]
But as the canned version is already boiled, it saves time
[197]
The can which I am using has finely chopped carrot and onion added to it
[203]
if you want, you can keep those or just throw those out
[207]
Since it is of a very negligible amount, it won't matter even if you don't throw them out
[210]
I have removed the water present in the can, and I am washing the dabli dal with some fresh water
[218]
As these are already boiled, we don't need to boil them separately.
[223]
But as we won't eat it cold, we need to heat up the chotpoti dal
[228]
What I am doing is adding it to a pan after washing it.
[233]
And adding 3 cups water to this
[236]
We need to add this water depending on how liquid or thick we want the chotpoti to be
[242]
As the dal is already boiled
[244]
And with that, I am adding boiled potato to this
[248]
We need to add this as well as per our taste. I am using total 4 potatoes, both small and medium and slightly breaking those, like this.
[255]
I am not completely mashing the potatoes, I have made some small and some big cuts
[261]
The small pieces will anyway melt while boiling and the big ones will shrink
[267]
Next, I am adding 3/4 tsp salt
[272]
And 1 tsp chilly flakes i.e crushed dry chilly.
[278]
And a little bit of turmeric powder, which is optional and can be omitted, I have just added it for bringing a colour in the dish
[287]
Next, I am mixing everything, turning the stove to medium and then boiling everything together for 10 minutes
[295]
This will ensure the potatoes get tender
[297]
And if you want to tenderise the dabli further, that will also be done.
[303]
But I won't completely melt this
[305]
And I will make a slightly thin chotpoti today
[309]
So, I am removing it from the flame at this stage
[312]
If you want a more concentrated chotpoti, either add less water or boil it longer to get a concentrated chotpoti
[322]
Next, we will directly pour the mixture in a plate
[326]
And we will add the other ingredients while it is still hot and then serve it.
[330]
But before removing it from the stove, since it will be extremely hot, I will stir it to remove the extra steam.
[337]
But won't completely cool it down
[340]
When you see the extra steam is removed, at that stage, I am adding boiled egg to this
[347]
I have finely chopped 2 boiled eggs like this.
[350]
I am adding 2 tbsp finely chopped onion, if you want to eat it later, add the chopped onion just before eating.
[358]
I am also adding 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander and 2 finely chopped green chillies
[364]
And with that, I have added 1.5 tbsp chotpoti masala
[368]
And I am adding extra 1 tsp fried cumin powder and 1/2 tsp black salt
[374]
Even if these 2 are already added in the chotpoti masala
[379]
And with that I have added 2.5 tbsp tamarind water which we prepared earlier.
[384]
And we will stir and mix everything together.
[387]
And whatever ingredients and the ratio which I mixed with the dabli dal are completely dependent on your taste
[395]
Mix the stuff and then taste it to see if it is good
[398]
If needed, you can add something more as well
[402]
And after that, you can garnish it before serving
[406]
Or you can serve it in the container in which we mixed everything
[411]
I am adding some chotpoti separately in another small bowl
[415]
And to make it more attracitve, I am sprinkling some cucumber slices over the top
[421]
And with that, I had kept a boiled egg separately
[424]
I am grating it with a grater and adding it from the top
[428]
And garnishing with some more finely chopped onion, cucumber and green chilly.
[435]
And something crispy is a perfect combination for chotpoti
[440]
If you want, you can add some crushed fuska or nimki from the top
[446]
That will taste good too
[448]
And at the end, I am adding some tamarind sour which will look good
[454]
And if you need, you can also take additional tamarind water at the time of eating.
[459]
I am garnishing it with chilly flakes and finely chopped coriander
[464]
And that's it, our home-made tasty chotpoti is ready
[468]
And we all are well acquainted with the taste
[471]
I am not going to say anything about it today.
[475]
Goodbye for today,
[476]
Stay well everyone!
[477]
Send some blessings my way!
[478]
Eid Mubarak!
