[5]
hello and welcome to podrift this is
[6]
simplified where we take complicated
[8]
automotive ideas and break them down
[9]
into bite-size pieces so you can digest
[11]
it easily and use them in your daily
[13]
life the latest change that the
[15]
government has made for automobiles and
[17]
this is a good one is a new series of
[18]
number plates called the bh or bharath
[20]
number plates and these number plates go
[22]
into action on september 15 2021. please
[25]
do subscribe to partner if you haven't
[27]
india's best automotive content is right
[29]
here do hit a couple of other buttons
[31]
like share subscribe the bell
[32]
notification icon so that we are all on
[34]
the same page and now let's begin
[37]
the big problem of living in india and
[39]
moving around between states is that you
[41]
have to take your vehicles with you and
[42]
that's not an easy process if i were to
[44]
move today from maharashtra to say
[46]
karnataka i would be allowed to run my
[47]
mh number plate in karnataka for up to a
[49]
year but we all know the stories from
[51]
the internet where the bangalore cops
[53]
are very very famous for stopping and
[54]
harassing all kinds of out of state
[56]
vehicles and even if you are well within
[58]
your rights to be using that vehicle for
[60]
a year in that state it still causes
[62]
problems among us are a certain bunch of
[64]
people who do move around a lot as part
[65]
of their jobs and the bh number plate
[67]
actually targets them so this plate is a
[69]
private registration which means black
[70]
numbers on a white number plate just
[72]
like you do currently for all of your
[73]
private cars and bikes but the big
[76]
change is that if you are a central or
[78]
state government employee if you work in
[80]
a central or state psu or public sector
[82]
undertaking or you work in a private
[84]
organization which has offices in at
[85]
least four states or more so when your
[87]
company transfers you you can take your
[89]
vehicle with you running a bh plate and
[90]
not having to do anything when you
[92]
arrive in the new state so how does it
[94]
work well as the government has done for
[96]
many many many schemes in the recent
[97]
past including the vaccination scheme
[99]
the bh number plate is also an online
[101]
process you go to the ministry of road
[103]
transport and highways website there's a
[105]
section there where you can apply for
[106]
the bharat number plate and you will
[108]
upload some amount of documentation
[109]
including proof if you're a private
[111]
sector employee that your company has
[112]
offices in those four states or your id
[115]
if you're a government employee and that
[116]
starts the process so far the process
[119]
has some amount of clarity when you
[120]
purchase a new vehicle but the
[121]
government is saying old vehicles will
[123]
also be brought into the bh number plate
[124]
system but that process is still not
[126]
very very clear now since this is a
[128]
central government process there is a
[130]
change in the taxation structure and
[131]
payment structure as well you do pay
[133]
online but now you don't pay 15 years of
[135]
road tax or 20 years of road tax
[136]
depending on your state you pay two
[138]
years of road tax at a time assuming
[140]
that the vehicle might move around and
[141]
all of those things
[142]
at the end of those two years you'll
[143]
have to pay another two years of road
[144]
tax and if you fail to do that for any
[146]
reason the fine is hundred rupees a day
[148]
and it accumulates obviously so you
[150]
remember that every two years you have
[151]
to go back online and pay your new road
[153]
tax after 14 years of this then the
[156]
taxation becomes annual which means
[157]
every year one time you have to log on
[160]
to the website and pay in the next
[161]
year's tax and that's how the process
[162]
continues how a bh number plate car goes
[165]
into this crap and system is still not
[166]
very clear but we don't have to deal
[168]
with that anytime soon so i'm going to
[169]
ignore that because as i said old
[171]
vehicles and how they fit into the bh
[172]
system is not currently known the bh
[175]
number plate actually has multiple
[176]
components the first two are numbers
[178]
they represent the year of manufacture
[180]
the year of first registration
[182]
today it is the same thing because we're
[184]
primarily talking about new vehicles but
[185]
as old vehicles come online these
[187]
numbers will obviously change so for
[188]
this year all bh plates will start with
[190]
the number two one for example the
[192]
second two characters are b and h which
[194]
represent the bharat number plate then
[196]
there are four more numbers which are
[197]
randomly generated by the system which
[199]
is your registration number followed by
[200]
two alphabets again which are from a a
[203]
to z but the gazette notification
[205]
specifically excludes the digits i and o
[208]
i'm not sure why but once this number
[210]
plate is acquired you put it on your car
[212]
and then life resumes as normal but
[213]
there are differences in the taxation
[215]
structure so if your vehicle costs less
[217]
than 10 lakh rupees you pay eight
[218]
percent root tax if your vehicle costs
[221]
between 10 and 20 lakh rupees you will
[222]
pay 10 road tracks and if it costs above
[224]
20 lakh rupees you'll pay 12 road tax if
[227]
you're buying a diesel you'll add two
[228]
percent to that for all categories if
[230]
you're buying electric you'll be able to
[231]
save two percent on all categories as
[233]
well as far as the gazette is concerned
[235]
to switch to a bh number plate you will
[237]
need an noc from the originating state
[238]
again i'm not clear as to who generates
[240]
this noc is it your rto can it be done
[243]
online these details are not clear but
[244]
as the system is deployed from the 15th
[246]
of september more details about the bh
[248]
number plate will come
[250]
but in summary it's a very simple system
[252]
first you have to be a central or a
[254]
state government employee or employed in
[256]
a psu or work in a private company with
[258]
at least four states offices to be able
[260]
to get to the bh series if you do get to
[262]
the bh series you do save a little bit
[264]
of money because you're only paying two
[265]
years of road tax but you have to pay it
[266]
every two years for the first 14 years
[268]
at least after which the tax amount
[270]
becomes half but then you have to pay it
[272]
every year
[273]
more details on this as it arrives thank
[275]
