[1]
- [Gary] Tuesday morning.
[3]
I just had a really productive
[5]
VaynerSports meeting off camera
[10]
and I'm headed back to New York City.
[14]
Bunch of meetings.
[15]
Then I'm going to go to
[18]
the Rangers playoff game with Brandon Steiner.
[22]
And, get some work done.
[26]
("Unstoppable" by This Is Wolff)
[49]
("Eleven:11" by Pell)
[133]
Yeah, I mean, as you can imagine,
[135]
there's so many themes there that are similar
[137]
to what's going on in the consumer packaged goods space.
[139]
I think, when I see 98% decline of growth
[143]
in the entire category of Fortune 500 CPGs in 2017,
[146]
there is some real, real, missteps on the way
[151]
that big brands are spending media on above the line
[154]
and specifically digital.
[156]
Like (censored),
[158]
one of the things that scares me,
[160]
is when a client comes to me and says,
[161]
"Great news! We're 58% digital now."
[164]
When I know 90% of that 58
[168]
is going to be pushed toward programmatic banners
[171]
and prerolls that not a single person on Earth
[173]
is going to give a crap about.
[176]
("Wild Were The Waves" by Signal Hill)
[181]
- [Gary] Boy, I really don't want to do that
[182]
so let's figure out how to like minimize that dollar amount.
[184]
Ya know?
[185]
Yep, but, I'm, yeah, Dot, I'm on board with you.
[189]
Now let them get it down to like (censored) by operating
[191]
the business for the rest of the year and fulfilling what our
[193]
obligations with free stuff.
[195]
You know what I mean?
[196]
Like, there's a way to drive that number down.
[198]
("Eleven:11" by Pell)
[217]
- [Man] What's up, Gary?
[218]
- [Gary] Hey guys.
[222]
You can be running it against fucking (censored)
[224]
fan girls 22 to 29 because,
[229]
it's so funny I was about to say what I think I would say
[231]
to a corporate client because you're making the investment
[233]
on (censored)
[233]
I just don't think I'm going to see it.
[235]
Give me the dollars.
[235]
- [Man 2] We'll go back and say these are the three areas,
[237]
he's how much money we have to spend.
[238]
- [Gary] Yes.
[239]
- [Man] And you guys thought... - [Gary] 100%.
[240]
Alright. - [Man] Peace.
[242]
- [Gary] Good to see you. (crosstalk)
[243]
Fast. Fast.
[250]
- [Gary] How you been?
[251]
- [Man 3] Very good. - [Gary] Good.
[251]
Good to see you guys.
[252]
- [Man 3] How is everything?
[253]
- [Gary] Really good, my friend. How are you?
[254]
- [Man] Cool, I'm cool man.
[255]
- [Gary] Good, man. Life is good?
[257]
- [Man 3] Life is good.
[258]
- [Gary] I mean, you know, I just think that you guys
[260]
can do a lot for him, for the brand.
[264]
I mean first of all I think you're global, personally,
[267]
and I'm sure you guys think so too, but listen,
[270]
they expect a gajillion dollars to win in Africa.
[275]
I just think you've got a real chance to do something.
[278]
So one of the biggest things is distribution.
[279]
So, for example, and you know this Tyler,
[281]
you're music on Casey Neistat's blog,
[285]
like you take seven vloggers on YouTube
[288]
and give them original music consistently,
[290]
like we're making, that Legendary song,
[292]
we made it popular.
[293]
We fucking made it popular.
[295]
- [Tyler] Yeah, it's the opening for the NFL.
[296]
- [Gary] We made it popular.
[297]
People watch me and I only have hundreds of thousands,
[301]
you get people with millions,
[302]
- [Man 4] Yeah.
[303]
- [Gary] You get a family in Ohio that has 11 million people
[305]
watching them every day vlogging,
[307]
and put your song in there,
[309]
it's like being on a video game or a, you know?
[311]
In a commercial.
[313]
I mean, I think you should put out music every day
[315]
on Soundcloud and Spotify, every day.
[319]
Now, I don't know you, I don't know your music process,
[322]
but there's not a song you make
[325]
that shouldn't see the world.
[328]
You're being too critical of it.
[331]
Let the market decide.
[333]
- [Man 3] Yeah, true.
[334]
- You're not going to make anything disgustingly bad.
[337]
It may not be up to your own personal standard,
[339]
but I know for a fact,
[341]
that you've had songs that were way bigger
[343]
than you thought they were going to be,
[344]
and you've had songs that you thought
[346]
were going to change your career and it didn't happen.
[347]
- [Man 3] Yeah, didn't do it.
[348]
- [Gary] I do it every day. Right?
[349]
I have videos and I'm like, this is it.
[351]
Hundred million on Facebook, eh, and other things like,
[355]
What? Why is this at a million already?
[359]
Got it?
[360]
- [Man 6] We'll see Jason about this.
[361]
- [Gary] You are? I love it.
[363]
Let me do a quick picture with you in the background
[365]
and give you some love.
[368]
I'll see you soon. I'll see you then.
[370]
We'll talk a lot more there.
[372]
I definitely I'd like to make two videos
[374]
at a hundred, hundred fifteen each like,
[378]
that's what I'd like to do.
[379]
Here's what I like about it.
[381]
It probably won't work.
[383]
If it does, we're forever associated with it,
[386]
and it's a win of all, like, I don't like playing safe.
[389]
Let's go for it.
[390]
It's a trend.
[392]
("Wild Were The Waves" by Signal Hill)
[415]
- [Gary] Hey guys.
[416]
Taking some of my own advice that I've been giving you guys,
[420]
to, was that the Apple Store, Avi?
[424]
- [Avi] No, Essential.
[425]
- [Gary] This one right here, it used to be, right?
[426]
- [Avi] No, it's up here on the corner.
[428]
Oh, okay.
[428]
Anyway, taking some of my own advice,
[432]
I just came out of meeting with a guy
[434]
who I'm not doing business with actively,
[436]
but I have in the past,
[437]
who is just ridiculously smart and punchline being,
[441]
I'm going to be spending time with people that
[445]
I see myself spending time with 30 years from now.
[448]
And so I'm starting to allocate more and more time on that.
[452]
I also, right before that, met with a former employee.
[456]
Once in Vayner, always in Vayner.
[457]
Former employees, if you see this, hit me up.
[459]
So, just trucking along my day, but big punchline is,
[463]
you need to continue to hack,
[465]
you know I kind of talk about like,
[466]
add a winning friend, cut a losing friend.
[469]
It also comes to your calendar.
[471]
Try to add one more meeting with somebody that you think
[472]
you're going to be in friendship or in business with
[476]
in 30 years, especially if you can have both.
[478]
It's just smart.
[479]
And so I'm trying to triple down and go a little bit deeper
[481]
on some of these seven to ten winners
[484]
and one to three super winners
[486]
and so I'm really focused more than ever on that.
[490]
(fans cheering)
