How To Clean A Faux-Leather Interior! - Tesla Lease Return Part 2 - Chemical Guys - YouTube

Channel: Chemical Guys

[6]
- What's up guys.
[7]
And welcome back to another episode of
[9]
Chemical Guys, Detail Garage.
[10]
Today, we are back with the Tesla
[12]
that we've already detailed.
[13]
Today we are going over the interior.
[16]
Now the interior is not too rough of in a shape.
[18]
So today I'm going to show you guys
[19]
some tips, tricks,
[20]
and techniques
[21]
for you guys to detail your interior and get
[23]
it looking as great as new.
[29]
If you guys seen our last video,
[30]
you guys would know that this Tesla is a leased vehicle.
[32]
And we've already done the exterior.
[34]
However, now today we are doing the interior.
[37]
So first things first,
[38]
we removed the owner's belongings.
[39]
We put them in a bag.
[40]
We moved out anything that we can.
[41]
That way it's not in the way of us detailing this ride.
[44]
Now the next thing I like to do is to remove
[46]
all the floor mats.
[47]
Get those things out the way so that you can actually work
[50]
on the carpet of the vehicle,
[51]
as well as the floor mats.
[52]
And you can address them at a separate time.
[54]
So after I remove the floor mats,
[56]
the next step in this process is vacuuming.
[59]
Now, the reason we vacuum first
[60]
is because we want to make sure that we remove as much of
[63]
the loose dirt and debris from the carpets
[65]
and the seats as we can.
[67]
Now, one thing about vacuuming
[68]
is that you're not just going to do it once
[70]
and be done with it.
[71]
You're actually going to do it at the end as well.
[73]
So it's not like one of those things where you just kind of
[75]
do it and it's out the way.
[76]
You know, when you vacuum,
[77]
you vacuum it once,
[79]
get rid of like,
[79]
the heavy things.
[80]
And then at the end of your detail,
[82]
you're most likely going to have,
[83]
you know, contaminants that leak out
[85]
of the cracks and crevices from
[86]
the areas that you clean.
[87]
So it's always a great thing to just give it a vacuum
[89]
at the end,
[90]
just to give it a final clean.
[91]
Now, the next step,
[92]
I actually pulled out my trunk organizer bag.
[95]
Now if you guys don't have a trunk organizer bag,
[96]
you guys need one,
[97]
because this thing has a ton of space
[99]
for all your Chemical Guys products.
[101]
So I'll lift it up
[102]
right here for you guys.
[104]
It looks great.
[105]
I have my three little brushes sticking out in the front.
[106]
And it also has a ton of space on the inside
[108]
to hold all of your detailing chemicals
[110]
that you're going to need
[111]
in order to detail your ride inside and out.
[114]
So the first product I pulled out of my
[115]
trunk organizer bag
[116]
is my Total Interior cleaner and protectant.
[119]
Now, Total Interior is great because
[121]
it's an all-in-one product.
[122]
So you can use it on virtually all of your interior surfaces
[125]
to remove light layers of dust,
[127]
debris, fingerprints, body oils.
[129]
So it's the perfect all-in-one cleaner just to kind of
[131]
maintain your interior.
[133]
So right here,
[133]
you'll see me using Total Interior to clean
[135]
a variety of interior surfaces,
[136]
including the dashboard,
[138]
the door panel,
[139]
the steering wheel,
[140]
and you can also use it on navigation screens.
[142]
And the cool thing about Teslas
[143]
is that they have a
[144]
dedicated screen cleaning mode.
[146]
So right here
[147]
you'll see me actually turning it on,
[149]
and it actually blacks out the screen
[150]
so that you can see all the fingerprints and
[152]
grime that's on the screen.
[153]
And it also disables the touch screen to prevent your screen
[156]
from spazzing out while you're trying to clean it.
[158]
And one thing about that Total Interior
[160]
that we just finished using,
[160]
is that you can actually use it on leather as well.
[163]
However, when you want to give it a deeper level of clean
[165]
that's when a dedicated cleaner,
[166]
like Leather Cleaner,
[167]
comes into play.
[168]
Tesla manufacturers their vehicle with vegan leather,
[171]
which is just another fancy word
[173]
for synthetic man-made leather.
[175]
So the great thing about it
[176]
is that you can still use all of your favorite Chemical Guys
[178]
leather cleaning products.
[180]
Before I start cleaning the leather,
[181]
I also do want to make sure that I clean the leather seats
[184]
and vacuum them.
[185]
So that I get any kind of debris from
[186]
out of the cracks and crevices of the seats.
[189]
Now, one quick tip that I have for you guys
[190]
is that whenever you are vacuuming leather,
[192]
since the material is so sensitive,
[194]
especially on this vegan leather,
[196]
that's kind of like a smooth matte kind of look,
[199]
you're going to notice scratches very easily.
[201]
So the last thing that you want to do
[202]
is just grind your,
[204]
you know,
[205]
your head of your vacuum against it and scratch it all up.
[207]
So one tip for you guys is,
[209]
I like to put my finger at the
[210]
base of the nozzle of the vacuum,
[213]
and that's going to help me kind of create a border
[215]
so that I do not ever touch the tip of the vacuum
[217]
onto the leather.
[218]
This will ultimately prevent the chance of you
[220]
scuffing your leather.
[221]
So just by hovering it,
[222]
you pick up any kind of loose dirt and debris.
[224]
And a worst case scenario,
[225]
if you have some more stubborn debris,
[227]
you can always grab a dry detailing brush and just kind of
[230]
give it a light, little scrub
[231]
to get that stuff out.
[232]
So now to clean the leather.
[234]
So right here,
[235]
we have our Leather Cleaner,
[236]
and we also have it paired with
[237]
one of our horse hair brushes.
[239]
Now, the reason I like using the horse hair brush
[241]
is because it's broad,
[242]
and it has a nice little ergonomic handle
[244]
that you can grab by hand.
[245]
So you can spray your cleaner directly onto your brush
[248]
and just start scrubbing away
[250]
and breaking down embedded dirt
[251]
and body oils within the leather.
[253]
And another quick tip for you guys out there
[254]
that have perforated leather,
[255]
spray the cleaner directly into the brush,
[257]
as opposed to spraying the cleaner
[259]
directly onto the material,
[260]
because you don't want the liquid to get into the holes.
[262]
Spray onto the brush,
[263]
start scrubbing.
[264]
You won't have that problem.
[265]
But whenever you spray a leather cleaner into your brush,
[267]
I would recommend spraying about five to six sprays
[270]
just to make sure that the brush
[271]
has enough product on there.
[273]
And then as soon as you start scrubbing onto the surface,
[275]
it's going to start foaming up the product
[277]
and give you that nice foaming action
[279]
so that you uplift that heavy dirt and build-up
[281]
that's on the leather.
[282]
And just like that with a little scrubby dub dub,
[284]
you clean up your leather,
[285]
and it's nice
[286]
and looking the way it should be.
[287]
Now at this point of the process,
[289]
you can actually choose to apply a conditioner.
[291]
And that's exactly what I'm going to do here.
[294]
Now the conditioner
[294]
is going to restore
[295]
the soft and supple feel to the material.
[298]
You know, even though it's not leather,
[299]
it's still going to work on
[300]
this synthetic material.
[301]
So you can apply a coat of Leather Conditioner.
[303]
It's going to restore the soft supple feel,
[305]
and it's going to nourish it with a fresh new look.
[307]
Apply a few drops onto a microfiber applicator.
[310]
And I like to work it in by finger
[312]
just to kind of spread out the product
[314]
onto the microfiber strands.
[316]
And this just helps prevent a heavy buildup
[318]
on one section of the leather.
[319]
So then this way,
[320]
you distribute it throughout the applicator
[321]
and get an even coat on your entire leather surface.
[324]
Now one thing I know you guys may be saying right now,
[326]
as you're watching this clip,
[327]
is that as I'm applying the leather conditioner,
[329]
it's going on extremely shiny.
[331]
A lot of you guys out there,
[332]
I know do not like the extremely shiny leather look.
[335]
Do not worry,
[336]
whenever you apply Leather Conditioner,
[338]
as soon as you apply it,
[339]
obviously it's going to go on very shiny,
[341]
because it's a liquid,
[342]
going onto a very dry surface.
[344]
However, once it starts penetrating
[346]
and absorbing into the leather,
[347]
it actually leaves behind more of a satin kind of sheen.
[350]
So it's not going to leave behind a super oily greasy look.
[353]
It's going to leave a nice satin look,
[355]
and a fully dry-to-the-touch feel.
[357]
Next on the list we have the floor mats
[359]
and the carpet of the vehicle.
[361]
Now the easiest way to clean something like this
[363]
that doesn't necessarily look super dirty
[365]
or have heavy stains,
[366]
is giving it a general maintenance clean.
[368]
And what I mean by that,
[369]
is by using our
[370]
Fabric Clean shampoo diluted to a 20 to one ratio.
[374]
Now this 20 to one ratio is great
[375]
for general purpose cleaning.
[376]
So it's not a super aggressive clean.
[378]
It actually gives you more of a very light,
[380]
mild clean.
[381]
Which is great for just wiping down light dust, debris.
[385]
You know, surface contaminants that are sitting
[387]
on the surface of your floor mats.
[388]
So if it's not super embedded within the finish,
[391]
you can literally just spray a nice,
[392]
fine coat with Fabric Clean
[394]
onto the material.
[395]
And then I like to just give it
[396]
a very light scrub with one of our nifty bristle brushes.
[399]
And this just helps kind of knock off
[400]
any kind of dirt and debris
[401]
that's trapped within the fabric.
[403]
And then simply grab a microfiber towel,
[405]
wipe that down to pick up the excess cleaner,
[408]
and to pick up the grime that it's uplifted.
[410]
And the great thing about Fabric Clean
[412]
is that it's a citrus based product.
[413]
So not only does it do an incredible job at cleaning,
[416]
but it also helps neutralize any kind of odor bacteria
[419]
caught within the material.
[420]
And it also gives your ride that nice,
[422]
refreshing, clean smell.
[423]
Moving forward with the final touches for the interior,
[426]
you cannot forget about cleaning your glass.
[428]
So the product I'm going to use to clean the glass
[430]
is going to be
[431]
our Streak Free glass cleaner.
[433]
Now Streak Free is going to uplift
[434]
any kind of dirt, grime,
[436]
films, body oils,
[438]
fingerprints that are caught on the glass surface,
[441]
and give you the ultimate crystal clear clarity.
[443]
I highly recommend that you use it with
[444]
two waffle weave towels.
[446]
That way you achieve the best possible clean.
[448]
So the idea behind this is,
[450]
you spray the cleaner onto the surface,
[452]
or if you want to,
[453]
you can also spray directly into one of your
[455]
waffle weave towels.
[456]
Give it a quick little wipe down.
[457]
I like to kind of go over it twice,
[459]
and after you've wiped it down,
[461]
I like to have a secondary waffle weave towel
[464]
that's completely dry,
[465]
just to pick up any excess
[467]
that may be on the surface,
[468]
and to pick up any kind of leftover grime.
[470]
So once you've cleaned all of your interior surfaces
[472]
with Total Interior or Nonsense,
[474]
depending on the level of filth.
[476]
You can top it off with the dressing
[477]
for even more shine and protection.
[479]
Now, Total Interior and Nonsense,
[481]
they're designed to leave behind a completely matte finish.
[484]
However, if you're the type of person
[485]
that loves that shine on the interior,
[488]
then you can follow it up with some Silk Shine.
[490]
And Silk Shine is great
[491]
because it gives you a silky look.
[492]
So it gives you a nice satin like sheen.
[494]
Not a super wet look,
[496]
not a dry look,
[497]
just a nice in-between
[498]
that leaves behind a completely dry-to-the-touch finish
[501]
to give your car that fresh brand new car look.
[504]
It's not just for looks.
[505]
It's not just so that your interior looks good.
[507]
It actually does have a purpose.
[509]
And that is to add a layer of UV protection.
[511]
If you live in an area that's extremely hot,
[513]
or maybe you just want protection for your interior,
[515]
top it off with a coat of Silk Shine
[517]
to give it that nice little layer of UV protection,
[519]
and all of your interior,
[521]
plastics, vinyl,
[522]
and rubber surfaces,
[524]
are going to be shielded against those harsh UV rays.
[526]
And it's a water-based dressing,
[528]
so you can use on interior and exterior surfaces.
[530]
To conclude this detail,
[531]
we're going to hit up the interior
[532]
with some New Car Smell.
[534]
Now what better way to conclude this detail?
[536]
The next person is going to definitely appreciate it.
[539]
It's going to have that new car smell,
[540]
and it's going to be new for them.
[542]
And one last thing before we leave,
[544]
