Channel: unknown
[0]
former White House chief strategist
[1]
Steve Bannon he is also joining us this
[4]
morning from the border state of Arizona
[6]
Steve it's great to have you this
[7]
morning thanks so much for joining us
[9]
Maria thanks for having me on you've
[12]
been doing a lot at that border first
[13]
off give us your take on where we are in
[16]
this crisis we have seen a real
[18]
improvement in the last two months given
[20]
the president's partnership with Mexico
[23]
how do you see it from on the ground
[25]
well listen it's a crisis but President
[28]
Trump I think his actions are starting
[30]
to have a huge impact you know he's got
[31]
to deal with Guatemala the safe harbor
[34]
the safe nation deal which is - let's
[36]
sort the problem out of the asylum
[38]
seekers down there in the northern
[40]
triangle he's also worked with Mexico on
[41]
the migrant protection program now that
[44]
they go back to Mexico to wait in
[46]
addition he this threat of the tariffs
[48]
really got and I can tell you because
[50]
I've been on the down on the southern
[51]
border for about the last three or four
[52]
weeks he's got the Mexican Marines in
[54]
the you know Mexican military up on the
[57]
northern border to stop the cartels this
[58]
is all about the cartels the cartels
[61]
control the border on the Mexican side
[62]
what President Trump is doing he's
[64]
trying to break the back of the cartels
[66]
and now like your previous guest said
[68]
from a couple of weeks ago or from last
[70]
week getting that defense money that 2.8
[73]
billion President Trump and the Army
[74]
Corps of Engineers are trying to build
[76]
long swaths of new wall and replace old
[79]
wall on the southern border so I think
[81]
things are heading in a positive
[82]
direction but that's because President
[84]
Trump having fought everybody from from
[87]
Congress to the media to the progressive
[90]
left is now and the cartels is really
[92]
starting to see I think we're starting
[93]
to see some real traction yeah you make
[95]
a good point about the drug lords when
[96]
we took the show to the border a couple
[98]
of months ago I was stunned at what I
[100]
witnessed in terms of children being put
[102]
in these dangerous situations and what I
[104]
was told by the Border Patrol people
[106]
they were kids crossing and that this
[109]
this picture here is an 8 year old and a
[111]
10 year old they lost their mother and
[113]
we were just shocked at what was going
[115]
on in terms of these kids being put into
[117]
these positions because some of them are
[119]
with people who are not their family and
[121]
they were rented to these people so that
[123]
they can look like families because the
[125]
because the the the loopholes allow them
[128]
in but but the issue is is that once you
[131]
get close
[132]
the border the drug alarms want to shake
[134]
you down and say okay you can't go these
[136]
extra five steps until you give us money
[138]
so really is a very dangerous situation
[139]
with those drug lords looked at these
[143]
cartels are very sophisticated
[144]
paramilitary operations they understand
[147]
that the human trafficking part of this
[149]
Maria is a higher margin business and
[151]
even the drug trafficking and that's
[152]
what's been allowed to happen President
[154]
Trump is trying to stop there remember
[155]
the whole purpose of the wall is to get
[157]
people to go through the ports of entry
[159]
where the rule of law takes place and
[161]
you can sort all this situation out
[163]
that's why the southern walls so
[164]
important it's not a total solution but
[166]
it's the beginning of a solution but
[168]
you're seeing right now and I think
[169]
Mexico Ramallah others understand the
[173]
threat that these cartels pose to the
[176]
citizens of northern Mexico to the
[177]
citizens of Guatemala and the citizens
[179]
of the border towns United States
[180]
President Trump had things taking pretty
[182]
dramatic action you have been trying to
[184]
work with private property owners to
[186]
build wall where you can away from the
[190]
government's efforts right tell us what
[191]
you're doing Steve
[193]
well the Army Corps of Engineers
[194]
remember president Trump's going to
[196]
build I think like 1,200 miles of ball
[197]
there are certain sectors were private
[199]
the property owners have that the Army
[201]
Corps of Engineers have either deemed is
[202]
too difficult or just bypass it we built
[204]
our file of wall actually down in El
[207]
Paso sector in the most dangerous part
[209]
which the Border Patrol told us the most
[210]
dangerous part on Mount Cristo Rey
[212]
really going up the side of a mountain
[213]
we have stopped the incursions 100%
[216]
since we built the wall I'm down here in
[218]
Arizona this this private group is we
[220]
build the wall that the the triple
[222]
amputee hero Brian Cole faj the Air
[224]
Force veteran has found it we've raised
[227]
about 25 million dollars I'm down here
[229]
in Arizona we're in the Rio Grande
[230]
Valley we've had about 30 different
[232]
private landowner to approach us now
[234]
they've seen our wall in in New Mexico
[237]
in Sunland Park to actually help them
[240]
these are areas where the Corps of
[242]
Engineers has determined these are
[243]
niches we're a niche player President
[245]
Trump in the Army Corps building long
[247]
runs of wall on the southern border
[249]
right now this of course is a campaign
[251]
promise that the president is keeping I
[253]
want to ask you about the state of play
[254]
for 2020 going into this incredible
[257]
election that we have up until just two
[259]
about a month ago a lot of the president
[262]
skeptics or you know the Democratic home
[265]
Falls have been calling it a
[267]
manufactured crisis you've seen the dent
[269]
the Democratic contenders who do you
[271]
think is most poised to be a real threat
[275]
to President Trump I gotta tell you
[279]
right now and I said this last week of
[281]
Maria I don't see anybody it's on that
[282]
stage right now they can take president
[284]
Trump one-on-one you know I pride myself
[286]
he's calling his his star pupil his top
[289]
pupil I've been studying this pretty
[291]
thoroughly don't you see the state of
[293]
play and I don't care what the polls say
[294]
on Biden Joe Biden is not gonna be able
[296]
stand up to Donald Trump he's weak on
[298]
China he's in business with China you've
[300]
seen this soft focus in the last couple
[302]
of days if the Democratic Party thinks
[304]
that Joe Biden's gonna be able go
[306]
mano-a-mano with Donald Trump in a
[307]
general election campaign they've got
[309]
another thing coming he will run the
[311]
tables on Biden now the second tier
[312]
candidates are the other camps like
[314]
Kamala Harris Elizabeth Warren I just
[316]
haven't seen it yet I haven't seen it on
[318]
that stage and I certainly haven't seen
[320]
in an aisle well I think they're taking
[322]
a very unsophisticated approach to China
[325]
I just haven't seen it I don't believe
[327]
and I say this I'm not so sure that his
[329]
opponent has even declared yet I think
[332]
you got to watch guys like Bloomberg
[333]
Hillary Clinton Michelle Obama a whole
[336]
raft of potential that I think I look
[338]
very closely and see if anybody because
[340]
the Democrats number one focus is to
[342]
defeat Donald Trump so I don't know I'm
[345]
so sure that you've even seen the
[346]
candidate up there right now certainly
[347]
nobody on that stage I think takes on
[349]
Trump one-on-one so you think Michelle
[351]
Obama Hillary Clinton or Michael
[353]
Bloomberg can still come into this race
[354]
I think there's I think there's gonna be
[358]
ample opportunity to come into this race
[360]
later in november/december even when the
[362]
primary start may be a candidate can't
[364]
win the primary season but they can take
[366]
it into the convention look the
[367]
Democrats are going to be very focused
[369]
on one thing this is why Tom Steyer
[371]
jumped in so late last week our two
[373]
weeks ago the Democrats are focused on
[375]
defeating Donald Trump they realize
[377]
unlike something Republican
[378]
establishment
[379]
he's a historic figure and a
[381]
transformative president they wanted
[383]
just like an 18 they are totally focused
[385]
like they focus on the House of
[386]
Representatives they are focused on
[388]
defeating Trump that's where they want
[389]
to go and I got a tip on in the primary
[394]
season I think there's a number of
[396]
potential Democratic candidates still
[398]
out there that could
[399]
in this race
