emotions for example when you plan a party they  show up late and in a fuss maybe their issues  

become the center of the conversation or when  they give you a present their gift is something  

they like not something you like well if you're  honest we sometimes treat God like this do you  

want to join the party that Jesus is throwing  or are you planning a different one are you the  

one fussing and being the center of attention  well King David reminds us in Psalm chapter 37  

to take delight in the Lord and He will give you  the desires of your heart David knew quite well  

the ups and downs of his desires when he wanted to  please God he defeated mighty Goliath with a few  

small stones but when David wanted bad things  he slept with a married woman and killed her  

husband David's own friend Uriah so pay attention  to your desires today hand him over to God if you  

let your desires coast you can easily slip into  selfish foolish and self-defeating things evil  

knows how to look tempting but God knows how to  save you from temptation seek what matters to  

Jesus and hold to it tightly everything else  will follow so the question is what are you  

wanting the most in this moment does it matter  most to God practice asking these two questions  

today to compare your desires to God's our  time will be directed by God but I hope you  

will pause the app often and ask the Holy Spirit  to prepare your mind and body an expectation of  

what God will do during this meditation time  but before we begin let me lead us in a moment  

of prayer Heavenly Father I bring this time to  you now this time of abiding in your presence  

fill my heart with desire for you my mind clear  to focus on you my spirit humble to accept your  

guidance shine a light on anything you want me  to see blind me to what distracts me from you  

bless this time keep me close and smile on me  and shower me with your peace align me with you  

in Jesus name Amen and that is it really aligned  desires focusing on his purpose so that it becomes  

ours transforming our selfish goals to aims of  glorifying God and enjoying him forever today  

I hope this time of longer deep meditation will  help you fix your thoughts on delighting in the  

Lord so as we begin take a few deep cleansing  breaths just breaths of pure delight breaths  

aligned with God just get comfortable  and settle in to wherever you are being  

aware of God being aware of his purpose in your  desire and that is where we will be going today

consider your life for a moment is there  anything keeping you from experiencing  

God's joy today hearing from him is their  sin blocking you from him unconfessed  

unaccounted for sin will confess that now  then thank him joyfully for his forgiveness

God is to be glorified the Holy Spirit focuses  our heart to his glory in Jesus well he's our  

example of living a life glorifying and  desiring God listen carefully to every  

detail now as I read from Psalm chapter 37  verse 4 take delight in the Lord and He will  

give you the desires of your heart what  stood out to you from that passage listen  

again carefully take delight in the Lord  and He will give you the desires of your  

heart reflect here now on how God might be  using this passage to touch your life today

God wants things for you that you can't  even imagine or understand pause and ponder  

here for a moment what are your deepest  desires and do they bring glory to God

listen again for something familiar or  affirming comforting are recognizable  

listen carefully for more as I read  from Psalm chapter 37 verse 4 take  

delight in the Lord and He will give  you the desires of your heart what did  

you hear this time well focus there  even deeper now in quiet meditation

you cannot simply have whatever  you want what do you want today  

and consider whether it matters to God in  his purpose does God want to strengthen  

your desire within you or let it go pause  and ponder as you consider these questions

listen one and final time as I read and you  meditate on Psalm chapter 37 verse 4 in fact  

let's take a broader look at Psalm 37 I will  start in verse 1 this time don't worry about  

the wicked or even those who do wrong for  like grass they soon fade away like spring  

flowers they soon wither trust in the Lord  and do good then you will live safely in the  

land and prosper take the light in the Lord  and He will give you your heart's desires  

so using your sanctified imagination for a  moment your eyes closed or in a soft focus  

imagine a clump of soft fresh grass in your  hand or gently holding a spring flower hold  

them gently how do they feel fresh clean  new desirable see them now in your mind

and now imagine them fading slowly wilting  it won't happen right away it may take weeks  

or months or maybe even years but things  of this earth pass away do they not again  

with your imagination see them fading  how does it feel what are your thoughts

what are the desires of your heart that you  hold in your hand how do you feel as they  

fade once again imagine the hand of God  writing his desires for you in the palm  

of your hand he has written your name in his  he now writes his name in yours his desires  

on your heart his dreams into your mind his  dreams into your mind imagine him taking the  

dying desires from your hand and replacing  them with his eternal purposes for you now

join me now in a moment of closing prayer dear God  my heart once for a lot of things I bring all of  

these desires to you now and then fill my heart  with the desire to know you and to spend time  

with you shine a light on anything I want that's  not from you and wash me clean of the rest show  

me the desires that are from you and let your  awesome spirit make them get fulfilled let me  

see your goodness so I know you better and wants  you even more in Jesus name Amen you know you may  

be facing a day today full of drifting desires  or lost dreams wishes slipping away take time  

today to let a flower slip from your hand or  a blade of grass fall to the ground and I hope  

that simple act today will remind you of God's  rich eternal desires for you eternal desires and  

that those reminders will keep you here a bit  longer no rush no time or no clock just listen  

to the music or the sounds or journal whatever  God places on your heart but I hope you will  

allow the Holy Spirit to hold you in this place  for several more minutes of profound peace and  

rest in alignment with God as you meditate and  abide in Christ we hope this meditation brought
