to friends and myself decided to go on a

four-month trip overseas we'd have two

months in the US and then two months in

Europe we had a week in LA to begin with

then we went to Vegas from there we

hired a car and drove down to San Diego

and we planned to drive from there all

the way up to um Canada there was a lot

of fun we were having a great time

meeting a lot of new people yeah seeing

a lot of cool places it's an amazing

drive that Iowa won there along the
[25]
clips so we're pretty excited driving

into San Francisco we heard what a great
[29]
city it was we got there pretty late in
[31]
the afternoon we booked into our
[33]
Hospital and we decided to go out on the
[35]
town and see a few sights
[39]
one of the places we were at I decided
[41]
to go to the bathroom on the weight of
[43]
the toilet I was confronted by six men
[45]
telling me to get out of their bar I was
[47]
being quite reserved and just saying
[49]
yeah that's no problem I'm happy to
[50]
leave and that's when I felt a king here
[54]
from the side I was on the ground I was
[56]
unconscious and I was being kicked my
[59]
friends were upstairs at the time they
[61]
looked down the stairs and saw that I
[63]
was being assaulted on the floor so they
[65]
quickly ran down the stairs luckily for
[67]
me and just got me out of there as quick
[68]
as they could we walked back to the
[70]
hostel and after a while my face started
[73]
to really swell up and it was really
[75]
quite painful so I thought it'd be best
[77]
to go to the hospital and get a checked
[79]
out I had my nose fractured on both
[82]
sides as well as my cheek bone was
[85]
fractured and bone underneath my eye was
[87]
fractured as well I was pretty shattered
[89]
knowing that I was going to have to have
[91]
surgery in a foreign country and that it
[93]
had completely ruined our travel plans I
[96]
remember at the hospital I was
[98]
repeatedly being asked do you have
[99]
insurance do you have insurance luckily
[102]
I had a card from Kevin Moore in my
[103]
wallet and I took that out and just kept
[106]
showing that I received the best
[108]
treatment and was I felt like I was a
[110]
high priority the next morning I woke up
[112]
with no wallet no phone no clothes I
[117]
didn't know if my friends knew where I
[119]
was no way of contacting them the
[122]
surgeon who was going to be treating me
[124]
came in and I had a bit of a look at me
[126]
and yeah he'd notified me that I'd be
[128]
transferred to another hospital there in
[130]
San Francisco we managed to make contact
[133]
with cover-more over the phone

then cover-more sent in a representative

from from their company to get details

from myself and my friends what had

happened and also take photos of my
[145]
injuries I had four plates put in

surrounding my eye socket and I'd

reconstructive surgery on my nose

I stayed in hospital for around three to

four days following my surgery and the
[157]
surgeon on discharge came in and said I
[159]
wouldn't fly for another two weeks we
[161]
had planned to fly a week after the
[164]
incident so it really sort of threw a
[166]
spanner in the works of our trip
[167]
cover-more reimbursed my friends for

their accommodation expenses while we
[173]
were stuck in San Francisco and also
[175]
covered the flights that we missed once
[178]
enough time had passed so I was given

the all-clear to continue traveling and

I was able to enjoy the rest of my trip

from San Francisco we drove up to Canada

for two weeks then we flew to New York

for about ten days and then from there

we went on to Europe for about two

months

I'm really happy of the outcome of the
[196]
surgery I have no problems with my
[198]
vision or my face as far as I understand
[200]
my hospital bills were around about
[202]
$100,000 I originally booked my flights
[205]
through student flights in Belconnen and
[207]
Hamburg and they suggested that I go
[210]
with cover Moroz my travel insurance at
[213]
first we didn't really think we were
[214]
going to going to need our travel
[216]
insurance we thought maybe we go skiing
[218]
in Switzerland or something like that as
[220]
far as I can remember my travel
[222]
insurance expenses totaled around $800
[226]
and it's the best $800 either it has
[227]
been it was a massive relationships have
[229]
a couple more supporting me I really
[232]
have no idea what I would have done I
[234]
probably would have had to drop out of
[235]
you and if I didn't have a couple more
[236]
if I ever travel again I'll definitely
[238]
be looking with government
