What is more accurate Experian, or聽 Credit Karma? By the end of this episode,聽聽
[4]
we're gonna go through the pros and cons聽 of each. Make sure you watch to the end.
[15]
In this episode, we're gonna dissect Credit Karma聽 and the credit scoring algorithm that they use,聽聽
[20]
and why it's not necessarily relevant. We'll聽 also compare Experian and Credit Karma. I'll聽聽
[26]
give you the rundown for each and the perks for聽 using each then we'll look at specific scenarios聽聽
[31]
to find out which of these services would better聽 suit your needs. All right, let's get to it. Okay,聽聽
[35]
let's start with Credit Karma? What I like about聽 Credit Karma is it gives you a credit score聽聽
[40]
with just a click of a button. Another thing that聽 I really like about Credit Karma is it's literally聽聽
[44]
opened up credit to millions and millions聽 of people, where before people were kind of聽聽
[49]
confused about credit scores and also about credit聽 in general. Credit Karma opened up this world to so聽
[56]
many people that probably never would have had the聽 opportunity to to look at or evaluate their credit聽聽
[62]
and scores and what they're eligible to purchase聽 Credit Karma in terms of kind of how they operate,聽聽
[68]
it's a free service. They don't have all three聽 credit bureaus, they only have TransUnion and聽聽
[73]
Equifax. They don't have Experian, which is going聽 to be one of the biggest credit bureaus, they also聽聽
[79]
use a less widely, I wouldn't say known because聽 it's well known but a less widely used scoring聽聽
[85]
metric, and it's called Vantage score. Okay,聽 now in terms of experience website, they have,聽聽
[90]
of course, the Experian Credit Report, but they聽 actually use Fico. And FICO is going to be the聽聽
[94]
credit scoring algorithm that all lenders use.聽 In most cases, well, I'm not gonna say all that聽聽
[98]
90% of lenders are going to use in most cases. And聽 I didn't want to get too much into the whole FICO聽聽
[103]
algorithm versus the Vantage score algorithm.聽 I've created videos on both of those, okay,聽聽
[108]
in terms of Experian, and the fact that they use聽 FICO. FICO actually uses a much broader base, or a聽聽
[114]
much broader data set to calculate scores. There's聽 a whole lot more to that. But I'm not going to聽聽
[118]
dive too deeply into that. When it comes to the聽 Credit Karma, they use a much thinner data set,聽聽
[124]
when it comes to their vantage score algorithm. In聽 terms of cost credit, Credit Karma is going to always be聽聽
[129]
free, they monetize off selling you financial聽 products. So remember, in this world,聽聽
[133]
nothing truly is free. In fact, in economic聽 terms, there's a statement that says there's no聽聽
[138]
such thing as a free lunch. And what that means聽 is is that if it's free, it's really not free,聽聽
[143]
somebody's paying for int. In terms of Credit聽 Karma, you're paying for it when you click on聽聽
[148]
that auto loan that they're recommending, or聽 that business card that they're recommending,聽聽
[152]
or that personal card that they're recommending,聽 or that personal loan that they're recommending.聽聽
[156]
Now, Experian does kind of the same things, they聽 do have a free service and allows you to see your聽聽
[162]
Experian Credit Report, and also your FICO eight聽 benchmark score. Within FICO, there's hundreds of聽聽
[169]
scores, the benchmark score is going to be if聽 there was a comparison, there's it's going to聽聽
[173]
be comparable to your vantage score. One of聽 the things I really like about the experience聽聽
[177]
service is you have the ability to upgrade,聽 of course for a fee, to get all three of your聽聽
[185]
credit reports. Again, Credit Karma gives you聽 two for free Experian will give you all three,聽聽
[191]
and then they also have the ability, if you go聽 with the experienced service to pull your industry聽聽
[196]
specific scores. You're gonna be able to see your聽 auto loan scores, you're gonna be able to see one聽聽
[201]
of your mortgage scores, you're gonna be able to聽 see your bank card scores, and then of course,聽聽
[205]
all of your benchmark scores. With the experience聽Experian service, they're only going to show you the聽聽
[209]
industry specific scores on your experience side聽 of things. So TransUnion and Equifax, you're not聽聽
[214]
going to see your industry specific scores. For聽 those credit bureaus, you're gonna actually have聽聽
[218]
to go through FICO. If you want to see those both聽 Credit Karma and Experian are fantastic at keeping聽聽
[224]
you engaged. Both have a plethora of resources for聽 educational purposes. Again, they have your credit聽聽
[232]
scores, and they have all kinds of different聽 bells and whistles that keep you coming back聽聽
[237]
and keep you interested in their websites. One of聽 the primary differences is is that Credit Karma is聽聽
[242]
free. Experian is going to cost you some money聽 if you want to upgrade to your industry specific聽聽
[248]
scores and you want the full suite of services.聽 So kind of in summary Credit Karma is going聽聽
[252]
to offer you educational resources, it's going聽 to offer you mobile access on your cell phone,聽聽
[257]
which is very nice. It's getting new credit聽 card recommendations, loan recommendations,聽聽
[261]
it's going to kind of give you a general idea of聽 what your credit looks like. Experian is gonna聽聽
[265]
give you a much more detailed look at your overall聽 credit. It's gonna give you credit monitoring,聽聽
[269]
it's gonna give you identity theft insurance,聽 it's gonna give you credit and loan matches,聽聽
[273]
Dark Web surveillance, a car management hub,聽 and a credit summary that includes personalized聽聽
[278]
suggestions. What I like about Experian is that聽 they offer a secondary service which you know,聽聽
[285]
you can take it for what it is, it's called聽 Experian boost and it does allow you to add your聽聽
[290]
utilities and your streaming services so it can help your credit scores depending聽聽
[294]
upon what industry you're trying to purchase聽 in. Right now, there's a big movement to reach聽聽
[299]
people haven't had access to credit. And they're聽 gonna start using more self reported things like聽聽
[304]
this to actually grow out those scores. I do聽 like the service-ish. The one thing I don't聽聽
[309]
like about Experian boost is that you have聽 to give them your bank account information聽聽
[314]
so that they can pull that data. I'm not a fan of聽 giving the credit bureaus any more information,聽聽
[320]
they've already got all of our information.聽 Many years ago, we had a breach with Equifax,聽聽
[325]
I'm not sure that I'm on board with giving聽 them access to my bank accounts also,聽聽
[329]
just a personal preference. Now before we go on,聽 I do want you to know that I'm not getting paid聽聽
[335]
from Experian or Credit Karma, I'm simply just聽 giving you my opinion and the way the services聽聽
[340]
both work. If you want more of my opinions, please聽 like this video and subscribe to my channel. I'll聽聽
[345]
be working hard to bring you a video each聽 week day over credit lending real estate聽聽
[349]
and other relevant personal finance topics. Okay,聽 now let's look at some different situations where聽聽
[355]
the Experian service or Credit Karma might serve聽 you best. First off, if you're somebody who is new聽聽
[361]
to credit, there is no doubt that Credit Karma is聽 a great starting place. For all the reasons that聽聽
[366]
I've mentioned before. Even though the scores at聽 Credit Karma, the Vantage score isn't necessarily聽聽
[371]
going to be the scores that lenders use when it聽 comes to qualifying you for any specific purchase.聽聽
[378]
It's still a great beginning at kind of seeing聽 how things work, opening up credit to yourself聽聽
[383]
seeing credit scores that may or may not be what聽 the lenders are pulling, but you kind of get an聽聽
[388]
idea of what's going on. Now if you're a聽 little bit more of an experienced buyer.聽聽
[393]
And you're in a situation where you're going to聽 make a purchase, whether it be for your auto loan聽聽
[397]
purchase, whether it be for a home, or maybe聽 you're looking for a new high limit credit card,
[404]
Experian is going to be the better service聽 for you. And the reason is because they're聽聽
[408]
going to have those industry specific scores聽 and those higher value tools, of course,聽聽
[413]
you're going to have to pay for those scores.聽 Credit Karma doesn't cost anything but then you聽聽
[418]
get what you pay for. You don't get the industry聽 specific scores that lenders are actually looking聽聽
[423]
at. Because Experian uses FICO and FICO has聽 been around forever and it's the preferential聽聽
[428]
credit scoring algorithm used in the United States聽 and most of the world, FICO is never going to give聽聽
[434]
those scores away for free. In my opinion, if聽 you're okay with paying fees Experian is going聽聽
[438]
to be the better service. It's going to give you聽 the widest scope of scores and the more in depth聽聽
[444]
services. If you've had credit challenges,聽 or just need help with your credit then
[448]
have a gift for you. I'll have my team complete聽 a complimentary credit analysis tailored just for聽
[454]
you. The only cost to you is going to be that you聽 purchase a smart credit report. This report gives聽聽
