Gov. Kristi Noem: Economic success in South Dakota attributed to conservative principles - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
governor christie gnome is running for
[1]
her own reelection in south dakota this
[4]
upcoming november but first she will
[6]
deliver her state of the state address
[8]
in south dakota this upcoming week she
[10]
joins me now with a preview governor
[12]
good morning to you it is wonderful to
[14]
see you this morning
[15]
good morning happy new year maria
[18]
and to you glenn youngkin credited
[20]
education as the top issue in virginia
[23]
ahead of your state of the state this
[24]
week what do you see
[26]
as the top priority for the people of
[28]
south dakota
[30]
well in south dakota it's defending
[32]
their freedom the biggest threat we're
[33]
seeing is out of the federal government
[35]
so i will be talking in my state of the
[37]
state
[38]
about addressing critical race theory
[40]
and also making sure that we're
[43]
protecting girls sports again with the
[45]
strongest law in the nation already in
[47]
south dakota only girls play girls
[49]
sports but we're going to put the
[50]
strongest law on the books in the entire
[52]
country and then also making sure we're
[54]
dealing with our historic revenues that
[56]
we have and south dakota is in the fight
[59]
protecting our people from making sure
[61]
that they don't have to comply with
[63]
federal vaccine mandates so there's a
[65]
lot of things that are going very very
[67]
well in south dakota and i think it's
[68]
because of our conservative approach to
[70]
business and protecting people's lives
[73]
and their social decisions that they
[76]
make for their families i think it's
[77]
incredibly important that we tell that
[78]
story
[80]
and and of course the economy is doing
[82]
well i'm going to get into the job
[84]
creation as well but let's talk covent
[86]
for a while you've been giving out free
[89]
testing for over a year you just ordered
[91]
an additional million tests
[94]
joe biden said the nation was closer to
[97]
ever to declaring independence from
[99]
covid and we just saw the highest number
[102]
of cases on record last week we're
[105]
expecting five million people to call
[107]
out sick this upcoming week because of
[109]
omicron
[111]
yeah you know the federal government and
[114]
joe biden have mandated vaccines yet
[116]
they tell the states that it's up to us
[118]
to deal with covid for over a year south
[120]
dakota has been providing free tests to
[122]
our citizens and this next week we will
[125]
ensure that every single citizen has
[127]
access to a free test in their home
[129]
communities
[130]
that is far above and beyond what the
[132]
federal government has delivered joe
[134]
biden consistently makes promises we
[136]
deliver and i think that really is the
[139]
story that has resonated throughout the
[141]
last couple of years as we trusted our
[143]
people
[144]
we've given them personal responsibility
[146]
to make the best decisions for their
[147]
families and we've supported them with
[149]
resources we kept our economy open we're
[151]
benefiting from that our kids have been
[153]
in classrooms and our state of the state
[155]
address in dealing with covid and
[157]
dealing with this pandemic will tell the
[159]
story of the examples of success and uh
[163]
benefits and and profits that our
[166]
businesses and our families have seen
[167]
because of that approach
[169]
well i mean young people and students
[171]
have been the real losers american
[173]
children are disadvantaged as a result
[176]
of the remote learning and look what's
[177]
going on in chicago right now is it that
[180]
the teachers union are just running the
[182]
show rolling over joe biden
[185]
absolutely it is absolutely it and i
[187]
think what is amazing is so many people
[190]
are watching what's happening across the
[191]
country and they're waking up i love
[193]
seeing these parents show up at school
[195]
board meetings pushing back on teachers
[197]
unions that are putting themselves first
[199]
above our children so in south dakota
[202]
our kids have been in the classroom uh
[203]
the entire time this last year we are
[206]
the state that our kids lost the la the
[208]
the least amount in this last pandemic
[211]
in educational opportunities and
[213]
successes our kids have done the best
[215]
and they've done the best because
[216]
they've been in the classrooms together
[218]
with their teachers they've been
[219]
learning and they've been excelling
[222]
governor stay with us we want to slip
[224]
into short break but i want to talk more
[226]
about rising inflation why the biden
[228]
administration is blaming the meat
[230]
conglomerates for the higher prices
[232]
rather than the democrats massive
[234]
spending plans we're talking with south
[236]
dakota governor christie know and we'll
[238]
be right back
[239]
the president the secretary of
[241]
agriculture have both spoken to what
[243]
we've seen as the greed of meat
[245]
conglomerates that is an area where
[247]
people go to the grocery store and
[248]
they're trying to buy a pound of meat
[250]
two pounds of meat 10 pounds of meat
[252]
it is the prices are higher
[256]
the price of meat is up 16 percent year
[258]
over year i am back with south dakota
[260]
governor christie gnome and that was
[262]
white house press secretary jen saki
[264]
last month blaming the big meat
[266]
producers for prices skyrocketing 16
[268]
percent in the last year governor your
[271]
reaction
[273]
well they're blaming the right people
[275]
but they're doing the wrong thing they
[276]
should do exactly what president trump
[278]
did is he charged his department of
[280]
justice to investigate the packers and
[282]
go after them and make sure that our
[284]
anti-trust
[285]
anti-competitive laws are being enforced
[287]
and followed by these packers instead
[290]
what joe biden is doing and what she's
[292]
talking about is attacking capitalism
[294]
attacking our free markets and that's
[296]
not american
[297]
and so i would caution people yes we
[299]
have a huge issue with our packers a
[301]
huge issue with rising meat prices but
[304]
what joe biden is doing is trying to
[306]
divert away from the real solution and
[309]
to attack our way of life here in this
[310]
country
[312]
so i'm going to keep pushing him i led a
[313]
coalition of governors to send a letter
[316]
and to raise awareness with the white
[318]
house that we are holding them
[319]
accountable to restarting this
[320]
investigation that president trump
[322]
started and to make sure that they
[323]
really do solve the problem not just
[326]
talk about it and a way to rip down our
[327]
country and everything that it stands on
[330]
well i think you make a great point
[331]
about capitalism because it's not just
[334]
meat governor look at the prices of food
[336]
in america today inflation is
[338]
skyrocketing we heard jay powell say
[341]
let's let's remove the word transitory
[344]
time to put it to rest what about the
[346]
idea that we've got all of this money
[349]
slashing and
[350]
and sloshing around this economy chasing
[353]
too few goods you've got prices for food
[355]
up across the board after a 1.9 trillion
[358]
dollar coveted package last march and
[361]
efforts to continue spending more money
[363]
with the build back better agenda
[366]
maria i've talked for years about how
[369]
our food supply is a national security
[371]
issue
[372]
how when another country grows our food
[374]
for us and provides our food for us that
[376]
they control us and that's what i'm
[378]
concerned about is the way this
[380]
administration is attacking american
[383]
enterprises and businesses and farmers
[385]
and ranchers and not really dealing with
[387]
the real issue and that's the control of
[389]
out-of-country
[391]
businesses china controlling our food
[393]
markets one of the biggest problems i
[396]
had during the pandemic was a
[398]
china-owned processing facility right
[400]
here in south dakota and they didn't
[402]
want to work with me because they didn't
[404]
have to and because this administration
[406]
didn't make them do that so i really
[408]
think it's a big concern people get
[410]
worried about a virus i get worried as
[412]
well about how scary it gets in this
[414]
country when people go to their grocery
[416]
stores and there isn't any food there
[418]
and realize that another country
[419]
controls it because we have an
[420]
administration that allowed the other
[422]
countries to have control over those
[424]
markets and didn't address the real
[425]
problems that we have within our
[427]
antitrust and anti-competitive laws on
[429]
the books
[431]
yeah i think this is a great point
[432]
because we cannot rely on production of
[436]
goods that we need like prescription
[438]
drugs like food
[440]
made outside of the country particularly
[442]
in china now people are flocking to
[444]
south dakota south dakota was in the top
[446]
three in the nation for people moving in
[449]
from other states in 2021 i know you're
[452]
going to address this in your state of
[453]
the state next week tell me about the
[455]
economics of south dakota right now and
[458]
why you're seeing an influx of people
[461]
well you know people don't come to south
[462]
dakota for our beaches maria or for our
[466]
weather in january but they are coming
[468]
to south dakota because they want to
[469]
live somewhere where the government
[470]
respects them
[472]
where they can have freedom to have the
[474]
way to raise their families like america
[477]
intended so our typical growth in our
[480]
state government revenue is about five
[481]
percent a year south dakota had over 15
[484]
percent growth we tripled our average
[486]
growth in the last year and that is
[489]
directly because of economic principles
[491]
that we held close
[493]
and followed that was the foundation of
[495]
this country so remember we don't have
[496]
an income tax no corporate income tax no
[499]
personal property tax all we have is a
[502]
four and a half cent sales tax and
[504]
because our economy is the best economy
[506]
in the nation our state government and
[508]
our state will benefit from the ability
[510]
to invest into long-term infrastructure
[512]
projects that'll make a difference for
[514]
the next 50 to 60 years we're putting
[517]
historic money into reserves
[519]
into trust funds we've paid off bonds
[521]
and debt and now we are building
[524]
railroads fixing dams high-speed
[526]
internet access to every home in the
[528]
state it's amazing what we're able to do
[530]
because we followed conservative
[531]
principles and how we run our economy
[534]
well so much so that your name is being
[536]
bandied about as a potential for a
[539]
candidate for vice president are you
[541]
looking for higher office governor
[544]
i'm looking for south dakota to continue
[546]
to lead the nation as an example
[549]
i love our state i have no intention to
[551]
leave our state our people are fantastic
[553]
we got a lot of good work we can do here
[554]
for the next several years while i have
[556]
the chance to maybe be governor if they
[558]
trust me to get me uh re-elected and
[560]
have the chance to work with them for
[562]
the next four years
[564]
all right governor we'll be watching
[565]
good to have you this morning thanks so
[566]
much south dakota governor christie
[569]
gnome joining us this morning in that
[570]
exclusive
