BIG UPDATES on Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill - YouTube
Channel: The Young Turks
[4]
speaker has indicated that we're going
[5]
to vote today i expect to vote today and
[7]
i expect that the bill will pass today
[10]
so that was hacking jeffrey saying we're
[12]
going to have a vote today and a lot of
[14]
people were saying the same thing
[15]
yesterday so i don't know how much stock
[17]
to put in it but that doesn't mean that
[19]
there weren't big developments today
[20]
we're gonna run through several um
[22]
including that biden was going to meet
[25]
with a bunch of the democrats not just
[28]
mansion and cinema so that was novel i
[30]
thought acknowledging that there are
[31]
other elected democrats in the country
[33]
and uh that has since happened actually
[35]
and so we have some
[37]
uh information on things that biden said
[39]
additionally things that were said
[40]
behind closed doors so i'm gonna read
[42]
some of the things that were broached
[44]
during that conversation including
[47]
biden saying it doesn't matter whether
[48]
it's in six minutes six days or six
[51]
weeks we're going to get it done
[53]
bear in mind they're the democrats so he
[55]
should have also thrown in six years 60
[57]
years something like that but um
[59]
he says
[60]
even a smaller bill can make historic
[63]
investments
[65]
so that's where it gets into sort of
[66]
scary territory he definitely doubled
[68]
down on the strategy saying we're not
[70]
going to do the bipartisan bill until we
[73]
get the reconciliation bill
[75]
but he implied that it could be
[76]
significantly smaller and he apparently
[78]
said that his top line range is now 1.9
[81]
trillion to 2.3 trillion
[84]
other dems are alleged to be aiming for
[86]
about 2.1 trillion manchester is
[89]
apparently holding strong at 1.5
[92]
so
[93]
somewhere between 1.5 and 2.1
[96]
is where surrender is taking us
[98]
seemingly bear in mind of course we had
[101]
3.5 at one point that was a compromise
[105]
from 6 from 10
[107]
and none of this is actually just this
[109]
is the price tag to save our planet this
[111]
is just what they thought might be
[113]
reasonable and we're rapidly discovering
[115]
that even that was some sort of leftist
[117]
fantasy i suppose okay so a couple
[120]
things first of all hakeem jeffries was
[121]
wrong it's not going to be held today
[123]
when the president says it could be six
[125]
weeks
[126]
or yeah and as john pointed out it well
[130]
look it can't be six months otherwise
[132]
they'll lose momentum but when the
[134]
president says it can be six weeks it
[135]
ain't today okay so let's just put that
[137]
aside so now uh i'd also like to note
[140]
that uh remember when all the pundits
[142]
were going nuts about uh this so-called
[145]
compromise that pelosi came up with that
[146]
they were going to vote on september
[147]
27th which was of course monday the
[150]
monday that already passed this week and
[152]
they were like she led the display she
[154]
landed the play we have this compromise
[156]
and we told you guys
[158]
ain't no plane let alone landed right
[160]
they
[161]
they haven't passed anything yet and
[163]
just because you say you're going to
[164]
vote on a certain day doesn't mean we
[166]
know what you're going to vote on and
[167]
whether it's going to pass so uh the the
[171]
key was are they actually going to vote
[172]
on that three and a half trillion dollar
[174]
uh bill and is it really three and a
[175]
half trillion dollars so as we told you
[178]
here on the young turks uh no they they
[181]
um
[182]
did not get it done on monday they
[183]
didn't get it done today didn't get done
[185]
at all uh this week because it was
[186]
unrealistic it was never realistic and
[189]
we said it on the day that they
[190]
announced it and everybody else was
[191]
celebrating like it was already done
[193]
right now i i tell you all that because
[196]
again as always you got to see if we
[198]
have credibility or not so
[201]
now uh another reporter ben siegel
[203]
saying the number is is very similar to
[205]
what john said between 1.9 and 2.2
[207]
trillion now if you're watching young
[209]
turks every day you remember the number
[211]
i've been telling you the whole time
[213]
i said it was probably going to come in
[214]
at a 2.1 trillion dollars
[216]
it looks like we're headed to exactly
[218]
2.1 trillion dollars okay because they
[221]
were never going to give us three and a
[222]
half of course they were never gonna by
[224]
the way does that mean that if we don't
[226]
get three and a half look i'm not a
[228]
legislator the legislators publicly
[230]
should be saying three and a half and
[231]
not a dollar less okay uh now as a as a
[235]
news host let me tell you we ain't gonna
[237]
get three and a half uh and so that's
[239]
always been the case i don't want to
[240]
talk about it publicly too much so the
[242]
question was always how much are we
[244]
going to get if anything at all but nina
[246]
as i could turn to you i think it now it
[250]
appears clear that we're going to get
[252]
something like that was always in
[254]
jeopardy it's not a hundred percent at
[256]
this point but they called it build back
[259]
better
[260]
this act and they're not gonna call it
[262]
that if biden isn't going to absolutely
[264]
positively insist and it looks like he's
[266]
saying no we're not going to agree with
[268]
the moderates to vote immediately we're
[270]
going to agree with the progressives to
[271]
vote later but we're not going to give
[274]
the progressives three and a half
[275]
trillion that's what it looks like it's
[276]
headed what do you think
[278]
yeah i mean later for less
[280]
jesus christ i mean leave it to the
[282]
democrats to negotiate down they are in
[285]
control so if they want 3.5 trillion and
[288]
again over the next 10 years too
[292]
the american people are so much better
[294]
than this i am disappointed look your
[297]
predictions are right
[299]
um
[300]
your your your contention that there are
[303]
things going on inside obviously that we
[305]
do not know
[306]
but jesus mary and joseph why can't we
[309]
have the 3.5 why can't the people on
[311]
main street and in neighborhoods all
[313]
across this country have the 3.5
[316]
trillion dollars i didn't see them um
[318]
lessening the amount that they that they
[320]
just voted on in a bipartisan way to put
[323]
more money in the in the pentagon budget
[326]
what is the problem
[328]
when it comes to doing what is right
[331]
necessary just for the american people i
[334]
just don't get it i'm disappointed
[335]
really
[336]
yeah i'm not surprised but i'm
[338]
disappointed yeah so
[340]
of course nina's right about the
[343]
disappointment because the devil's in
[344]
the details john what are they going to
[346]
take out right because like if you say
[350]
okay well 3.5 2.1
[353]
uh
[354]
but
[355]
we took out all the climate change
[357]
legislation well
[359]
then it's not really a compromise it's
[362]
that portion is a surrender right and so
[365]
man is the devil in the details yeah and
[367]
and on the other side as well how
[369]
whatever little crumbs they have
[372]
remaining how are they gonna pay for it
[374]
because
[375]
you know the people who are functionally
[377]
the president at this point they're not
[379]
okay with any of the forms of payment
[381]
they
[382]
they said maybe we can get back a little
[384]
bit of what was uh taken away on the top
[386]
marginal tax rate the corporate tax rate
[388]
and that has gone down almost nothing um
[391]
so oh carbon tax we'll do the carbon tax
[393]
no next day can't do the carbon tax i
[394]
have no idea how or if at all they're
[397]
going to raise any money um and you can
[400]
tell me all you want about the
[402]
spreadsheets that cinema has
[404]
uh it's not it's on a complicated
[407]
spreadsheet she doesn't want taxes to be
[408]
raised that's it i do not believe she
[411]
cares at all what actually is funded
[414]
with this she cares what is not done
[416]
which is taxing uh the people that are
[418]
actually funding her and actually oddly
[420]
enough
[421]
it isn't just her you know record on
[424]
taxes and things like that that should
[426]
scare her or scare us or her recent
[428]
statements or even that a few days ago
[430]
she had a fundraiser with wealthy
[433]
lobbyists during all of these
[434]
negotiations she's also gone
[437]
they're still doing these negotiations
[439]
she left dc
[441]
uh in no small part to do more
[443]
fundraising so she left her spokesperson
[446]
said she had a medical appointment for a
[448]
foot injury
[450]
she's a senator she could reschedule it
[453]
she could have a doctor's appointment in
[454]
dc if she wanted to that is not the only
[457]
thing she's going home for
[459]
on saturday she's scheduled to attend
[460]
her political action committee's retreat
[462]
with donors high-end resort and spa
[465]
phoenix according to three different
[466]
sources uh the hotel confirmed the event
[468]
which kicks off with a cocktail
[470]
reception at 5 30 p.m uh followed by a
[472]
dinner
[473]
they're doing this little retreat
[475]
and that's going to be fun for her and
[477]
she's gonna raise a bunch of money i
[479]
don't know how many of her
[481]
um ailing suffering constituents will be
[483]
invited i don't know how many regular
[485]
people of phoenix or arizona will be
[486]
invited there but the people that she
[488]
truly cares about will be and they'll be
[490]
writing more checks for her and let's
[491]
bear in mind
[492]
that while we're right now uh jank and
[494]
me and nina we're responding to what
[496]
biden is saying and um how they're
[499]
they're trying to reconfigure things to
[500]
make them work uh she's also gonna be
[502]
talking about to those lobbyists
[503]
tomorrow they're going to be paying
[505]
attention to what biden is saying right
[507]
now and they're going to be they're
[508]
never going to be satisfied they're
[510]
going to continue to fight you cannot
[512]
placate her she will always want more as
[515]
long as our country is in the horrible
[517]
position where she actually has any
[518]
influence and so god only knows what
[521]
she's going to be saying next week after
[523]
she gets her renewed marching orders
[524]
from the people that are going to be at
[525]
this retreat
[527]
yeah and so
[530]
look uh i don't know if that spa has
[533]
important foot massages or something
[534]
that
[536]
cure her ailing feet uh but it reminds
[539]
me of the john danforth excuse which is
[541]
my favorite political excuse of all time
[543]
he was u.n ambassador for george w bush
[546]
and
[547]
and he hated bush's policies so much
[549]
even though he was a right-wing senator
[551]
for a long time he thought bush was a
[553]
bridge too far god knows what he thinks
[555]
of trump anyway uh he was so frustrated
[558]
with bush he said oh my wife twisted her
[560]
ankle i got to go take care of her i'm
[561]
quitting i remember that
[563]
so here we go again with another twisted
[565]
ankle ah well and then as luck would
[568]
have it my doctor's right next to my
[570]
donors okay and so i had to go to that
[572]
retreat which by the way sounds lovely
[574]
um so i i love the idea that nina came
[578]
up with just now um
[580]
you guys want to do a compromise we do a
[581]
compromise uh so instead of saying the
[584]
compromise should be hey let's take out
[586]
climate change or let's take out the
[588]
improvements to medicare
[590]
um why don't we say let's keep all those
[593]
in
[594]
and just take the whatever money that
[596]
cinema and manchester want to save and
[598]
take it out of the defense budget
[600]
you guys want to compromise let's do it
[602]
right and they say progressives aren't
[604]
open to compromise you know we're open
[605]
to it isn't it
[607]
no yeah absolutely we are and
[610]
you know what i i just wish uh cinema
[612]
would just come on out and tell the
[614]
truth she she doesn't give a damn about
[616]
what the people need and what they have
[617]
to say whether it's her state or across
[619]
the country that is the real and i'm
[621]
hoping that the voters of arizona are
[624]
seeing right through this and that she
[625]
is primaried
[627]
she must be
[629]
primary she cannot get away with just
[633]
flaunting i mean she's just like when
[635]
she did that vote and she put the thumbs
[637]
down in a little curtsy uh a dance she
[639]
did it's the same thing she's doing it
[641]
right now but she's headed to a spa uh
[643]
tomorrow yeah
[645]
i mean
[646]
we joke around about cocktail hour right
[649]
and she's literally going to a cocktail
[651]
reception where she's going to you know
[652]
chow down on some hors d'oeuvres and
[654]
then literally collect checks i mean so
[657]
here i'll give you a
[659]
comment from one of the
[660]
the members that's quoting nina in a
[662]
sense tommy twostrong wright said it's
[664]
not about the numbers manchester said
[665]
months ago that he was okay with what 4
[667]
trillion dollars that's true we showed
[668]
that to you on the show earlier this
[670]
week it's about pleasing as owner donors
[673]
hello somebody and stripping the fossil
[676]
fuel legislation and stripping the
[678]
medicare savings for cinemas owner
[681]
donors that's exactly right as we're
[683]
going to show you in a minute mansions
[685]
uh got about 5 million dollars on the
[687]
line on uh climate change issues
[689]
personally
[690]
about his own money uh cinema wants to
[693]
kill any tax increases for corporations
[695]
or her owner donors and wants to strip
[698]
out anything that helps you with drug
[699]
prices because drug companies are huge
[701]
donors to her and finally we had the
[704]
media beginning to just dip their toe in
[707]
the pool of
[708]
hey i wonder if this has something to do
[710]
with their donors to which of course we
[712]
all at dyt screamed in unison of course
[717]
of course of course
[719]
so there's two there's two other little
[721]
aspects of this that i want to um read
[723]
just to frustrate both of you um but to
[725]
the director i'm actually we've got the
[726]
screenshot coming up we're going to
[727]
return to that i want to go to those two
[729]
final graphics first because we're
[730]
talking about donors here i just love
[732]
this little detail that like
[734]
cinema's former legislative director and
[736]
senior policy advisor alissa
[738]
marwah perhaps or maurice
[741]
now lobbies on behalf of jpmorgan chase
[743]
the bank has donated almost fifty
[744]
thousand dollars to cinema's campaign
[746]
and related packs and of course they
[748]
don't want the corporate tax uh
[751]
rate to be um raised
[753]
this former aide of cinema was listed
[755]
last year as vice president of federal
[757]
government relations for the bank and
[760]
the government relations manager for the
[761]
company in its latest federal elections
[762]
commission filing the job involves
[764]
developing quote relationships with key
[766]
policy makers like
[768]
i we've got a lot of people watching
[770]
and if we were to pull you all god only
[772]
knows how many different jobs you have
[774]
different skill sets you need to have
[776]
ours are a weird job i think we can
[777]
admit that but we at least have to know
[779]
things and say things other people have
[781]
far harder jobs
[782]
she just knows cinema
[785]
she worked with cinema now she works for
[787]
jpmorgan chase and she can get cinema on
[789]
the phone and deliver for jpmorgan chase
[791]
what they want that's her whole thing so
[794]
what cinema is doing is obviously sick
[796]
and substantively worse as an individual
[798]
that she's obstructing so much
[800]
um you know necessary positive help to
[802]
the working class but they're also
[804]
surrounded by a bunch of other parasites
[807]
and bottom feeders that are just there
[810]
to eventually make easy money and in
[812]
fact this former advisor a lot smarter
[815]
than cinema cinema how to do a whole
[817]
bunch more to get to the point where
[818]
eventually she'll be hired by jp morgan
[821]
or something like that some of her aides
[822]
are already cashing in i would argue
[824]
that they're better at this than she is
[826]
well no let's but let's explain the
[828]
ecosystem a little bit better because so
[830]
john's right uh not only do you have
[832]
that but her current chief of staff
[834]
right now
[835]
uh used to be a lobbyist for uh big
[837]
pharma this drug companies okay
[840]
so she's surrounded by lobbyists and
[842]
it's a revolving door but remember the
[844]
staff members uh get really good payouts
[848]
they might make half a million a year
[849]
etc when they leave and that's why they
[851]
do what they do
[852]
uh and but the senators are the big dogs
[855]
and they join giant lobbying
[858]
organizations which chris and cinema
[859]
will almost certainly will do when she
[861]
leaves office
[863]
and they get several million dollars so
[865]
this
[866]
they get the campaign contributions are
[868]
just the first part of the bribes then
[871]
you get actual
[873]
money that you can put in your pocket
[875]
after you retire and meanwhile your
[877]
staff is constantly
[880]
going through that revolving door and
[881]
cashing out and cashing out and by the
[883]
way i i've always said to to legislators
[886]
and other progressive allies
[888]
the bill where you say that they can
[891]
actually a real bill with teeth that
[893]
says they cannot work as lobbyists in
[895]
any way shape or form
[897]
after they leave office or after the the
[899]
staffers leave that's the last one that
[902]
should pass because they will fight that
[904]
with every fiber of their being in
[907]
washington if you say hey that's this is
[909]
not right
[910]
i mean they might physically fight you
[912]
like to them they're like how how would
[914]
we even buy our mansions how would we
[917]
pay for private school or houseboats in
[920]
our yachts you guys are monsters no no
[922]
no we have to do this they nina they
[925]
find this perfectly normal that they
[927]
would go and take money from banks drug
[928]
companies oil companies etc and then
[931]
they find it outrageous and and more
[933]
than that you know
[934]
the media helps them paint it is
[937]
outrageous when we say they shouldn't do
[939]
that should they
[941]
and this is obscene and it just really
[944]
you talk about the gilded age of the
[945]
21st century here it is and it's right
[948]
out in the open they're not even trying
[951]
to keep it a secret so that is why you
[953]
know any blue just won't do we do have
[956]
to elect people who i do have the
[958]
courage to stand up to these special
[960]
interests and finally declare once and
[962]
for all that the only special interest
[964]
that they are going to answer to
[966]
are the people that is why the model of
[969]
raising money small dollar donation so
[972]
you don't have to answer or depend on
[974]
these people is vitally important to the
[977]
vibrancy and the health of this
[979]
representative democracy otherwise these
[982]
folks are for sale they got the for sale
[984]
sign they might as well stamp it on top
[986]
of their forehead
[987]
jake and john because they are for sale
[990]
and the owner donors are running the
[991]
place the oligarchs are running the
[993]
place
[994]
and the only way that we are going to
[996]
change this type of behavior
[999]
and is that we the collective we stop
[1002]
that stop accepting it that's number one
[1004]
and number two elect people to office
[1006]
who will go against the grain on this we
[1008]
need campaign finance reform and we need
[1011]
it yesterday that's why we sent up here
[1012]
dilly-dallying over 3.5 trillion dollars
[1015]
when it was supposed to be six and
[1017]
before that 10. yeah this is foolishness
[1020]
at the highest order but it is allowed
[1022]
once again it is allowed in the united
[1024]
states of america to bribe to pay off to
[1028]
bag to put the bag of money on the on
[1030]
the table
[1031]
yeah yeah uh and and look bernie sanders
[1034]
started this trend by saying i'm not
[1036]
going to take corporate pac money in
[1037]
2016 they raised a ton of money anyway
[1040]
from actual human beings at 27 at a time
[1043]
then just democrats made it a rule and
[1045]
now almost any progressive running for
[1047]
congress whether they're just democrat
[1048]
or not won't take corporate pac money
[1050]
and as aoc explained uh on on air a
[1053]
couple of days ago she said well when
[1054]
you're free from the lobbyist
[1056]
you just do what you want you can do
[1058]
what your voters actually want and and
[1061]
meanwhile guys remember republicans have
[1064]
no
[1064]
power democrats can pass anything they
[1067]
want
[1068]
just within the democratic party so we
[1070]
are not negotiating with republicans
[1072]
we're negotiating with democratic donors
[1075]
so that's the current situation i'll
[1077]
end it on a viewer comment because you
[1079]
guys are not just the smartest audience
[1081]
but the funniest mikey 3343 wrote in
[1084]
uh about cinema she heard her foot
[1086]
kicking down the working class thanks
[1088]
for watching the young turks really
[1090]
appreciate it another way to show
