Day Trading GME AMC Meme Stocks - YouTube
Channel: Humbled Trader
[0]
this whole meme stock movement started
[2]
out with gamestop have a lot more
[5]
significance than just the surface level
[8]
monetary gains
[12]
right now in the current uncertain
[14]
market environment in 2022 with stock
[17]
selling off high inflation and rising
[21]
interest rates
[22]
i cannot be the only retail trader and
[25]
investor thinking man can we just bring
[28]
back all the hype we had in 2021 it's
[33]
difficult not to reminisce about all the
[35]
crazy momentum runs like gamestop amc
[40]
and many many other retail favorites i
[43]
have never been so excited to wake up at
[46]
4 00 am pacific time every single
[49]
morning and run straight to my computer
[52]
to get the ball rolling so i must say
[55]
here make meme stocks great again
[60]
while the retail hype seems to have died
[62]
down significantly in 2022
[65]
let's not forget the impact the stocks
[68]
at gamestop and amc have a hat on the
[72]
entire stock market and on many retail
[75]
investors bank accounts in this video we
[78]
are taking a leisurely walk down the
[81]
memory lane and taking a look at the
[84]
aftermath of the wall street bets
[86]
movement and how meme stocks have
[89]
forever changed the stock market as
[92]
somebody who's been day trading for more
[94]
than seven years now i can tell you this
[97]
while history doesn't repeat itself
[99]
exactly the same it often rhymes so the
[103]
next time around another stock might get
[105]
hype comes around you can be even more
[108]
prepared to profit and be prepared to
[111]
smash the like button to make the stock
[114]
market great again
[117]
i really appreciate all of your support
[119]
and it definitely helps a lot with this
[122]
channel and sponsoring all the bad jokes
[125]
to start discussing this topic we must
[128]
first understand what exactly is a meme
[132]
stock
[132]
well we know the word meme to mean
[135]
something funny on the internet it
[137]
originally came as a term used in
[140]
evolutionary biology science who would
[144]
have guessed
[145]
in short richard dawkins in 1976 in
[149]
talking about how people pass on their
[151]
genes needed a word to describe not
[154]
passing on genetic material but instead
[157]
passing on an idea he was going to use
[161]
the greek word for imitation called my
[164]
meme but he wanted something shorter
[167]
that reminded people of the word gene so
[171]
he decided putting on the two words
[173]
together to become mean
[176]
now in modern day most of us know the
[179]
word meme known as something funny
[182]
humorous or video that was found on the
[185]
internet usually some on social media
[188]
like facebook twitter and what all the
[190]
cool kids are using nowadays tick tock
[193]
by the way please make sure to follow me
[195]
on tech talk if you haven't done that
[197]
already i just started posting a lot
[200]
more videos there and that's how we
[203]
ended up here with meme stocks a meme
[206]
stock refers to shares of a company that
[209]
have gained the code like following
[211]
online and through social media
[213]
platforms in this case specifically on
[216]
reddit wall street beds people on the
[219]
washi bed subreddit started out treating
[222]
them as jokes and put money into these
[225]
stocks or shall we call them stunks for
[228]
fun and that's exactly what these og
[232]
meme stocks like gamestop and amc were
[235]
they were for fancy cakes however these
[238]
meme stocks gained a huge following
[241]
because they were essentially imitations
[244]
or copies of what you would spend your
[247]
money on in real life for example
[250]
shopping and spending time at gamestop
[253]
was nostalgic for many of the 80s and
[256]
90s kids one over here with their
[259]
pokemons nintendos and video game
[262]
tradings and much like how we find memes
[266]
to be funny a lot of people put their
[268]
money invested in these stocks for fancy
[271]
cakes but little did they know these
[274]
stonks were about to change the stock
[277]
market and pretty much change the world
[280]
in mid-2020
[282]
the youtuber persona keith gill aka
[286]
roaring kitty aka deep effing value on
[289]
reddit posted a research on wall street
[292]
beds and subsequently a viral video
[295]
showing how he thinks gamestop could
[298]
potentially increase from five dollars
[301]
to 50 dollars a share he explained that
[304]
the stock had some of the highest short
[307]
interest on wall street meaning that it
[310]
was a stock with a lot of major hedge
[312]
funds short selling it to the ground and
[316]
milking every single cent out of this
[318]
declining stock because they knew just
[321]
like everyone else the gamestop was a
[324]
dying company quick reminder for those
[327]
who are not familiar with short selling
[330]
when you shoot a stock you are betting
[332]
that the stock prices are going to go
[334]
lower because of the underlying
[337]
company's business is failing
[339]
essentially you are betting against the
[342]
stock which is the reason big hedge fund
[345]
specifically melvin capital was short
[348]
selling gamestop because the companies
[351]
still operated as a brick and mortar
[353]
business in an age where internet-based
[357]
shopping dominates the world deep effing
[360]
value went on to describe a short
[363]
squeeze scenario where all the hedge
[365]
funds with the short positions on
[367]
gamestop will need to cover their short
[370]
positions if a short squeeze does occur
[373]
which will mean their buying to cover
[376]
will cause a massive rally in stock
[378]
prices for many months no one took dfv's
[382]
research on gamestop that seriously
[385]
because come on who goes to the store to
[387]
buy video games anymore everyone
[390]
expected gamestop to head to the
[392]
cemetery just like blockbuster
[396]
and that's what gamestop looked like in
[398]
2020 however as the gamestop stock price
[402]
slowly crept up from 4 dollars to 10 and
[406]
setting higher lows near the end of 2020
[410]
as the stock had gained more and more
[412]
following and washi bets remember many
[415]
people started out thinking about this
[417]
thesis and this stock as a joke but the
[421]
prices don't lie
[423]
more and more retail investors are drawn
[425]
into this meme stock and guess what this
[429]
meme was turning into a reality in
[432]
january of 2021 the short squeeze that
[436]
deep fm value said could happen
[439]
actually happened gamestop shares
[441]
erupted to nearly 500 a share amidst the
[445]
frenzy of hedge funds covering their
[448]
short positions and formal buyers buying
[451]
the breakout straight to the moon what
[453]
happened immediately during and after
[456]
the gamestop short squeeze was some of
[459]
the wildest times i've ever seen in a
[461]
stock market and i've seen a lot over
[465]
the last seven years with all the crazy
[468]
short squeezes as you can see it's not
[471]
an exaggeration to say these og meme
[474]
stocks like gme change the stock market
[478]
it also woke up many subsequent runs in
[481]
other meme stocks like amc bbby and ok
[485]
and the list just goes on and on while
[488]
not every retail investor made money
[491]
because as we all know many are still
[494]
holding on to these meme stocks as they
[497]
slowly declined at the end of 2021 and
[500]
now 2022 and i personally know many
[504]
people who are still holding on my
[507]
ex-husband mike bagholder will be one of
[510]
those people however this whole meme
[513]
stock movement started out with gamestop
[516]
have a lot more significance than just
[519]
the surface level monetary gains there's
[522]
always been this division in the stock
[525]
market between the big dogs and the
[527]
retail investors the big dogs are the
[530]
hedge funds and the market makers that
[532]
have billions of dollars they have so
[535]
much power on wall street that they
[537]
could manipulate the market and make it
[540]
do whatever they wanted to do with a
[542]
naked short selling the activists
[545]
investing coordinating prs and the list
[548]
just goes on and on because they have
[551]
the monopoly or close to in a stock
[554]
market
[555]
the retail investors are like you and me
[558]
we don't work on wall street in some
[560]
high-rise offices for some fancy
[563]
financial firms we are at home trying to
[566]
carve out a life for ourselves and most
[569]
of us study invest in trade in a stock
[572]
market part-time and often we are
[575]
subject to market manipulation and lost
[579]
some of our money when the big dogs
[581]
bully their way around we are often
[584]
known as the chumps in the room with
[587]
this meme stock movement so began this
[590]
kind of david and goliath story the
[593]
subreddit wall street bet rallied the
[595]
little guys across the globe and wanted
[598]
to stick it to the big dogs the goliaths
[601]
in the stock market and none of the big
[604]
dogs thought this was going to work
[606]
nobody took retail investing and trading
[609]
seriously until after the game stopped
[612]
short squeeze even citron research often
[615]
known for the profits like bearish
[618]
predictions in the stock market quickly
[620]
dismissed this movement and called these
[623]
little guys the suckers at this poker
[626]
game instead what happened is that
[628]
gamestop started surging as a little
[631]
guys the retail investors started to
[634]
pile on shares of gme in an attempt to
[637]
make the hedge funds cover their short
[640]
position these retail investors and
[643]
traders they were doubling quadrupling
[645]
their positions by the day enchanting
[649]
diamond hands and making it rain
[651]
attendees
[653]
man they make my reigning lamborghini
[655]
jokes shy in comparison i gotta give it
[658]
to these people i'll pick fried chicken
[661]
over my imaginary lambos any day what
[665]
transpired really changed the stock
[667]
market forever and here is the aftermath
[670]
of the retail movement well citron
[673]
research the short-selling oracle of
[676]
wall street shut down its short-selling
[678]
publications online as a result of the
[681]
aggregated losses from gamestop short
[684]
melvin capital one of the most elite
[687]
hedge funds had to be bailed out by two
[690]
other firms however i know what the real
[694]
million dollar question is here have
[696]
retail traders taken over wall street
[700]
unfortunately no far from it the big
[704]
dogs they'll sit in the doghouse high up
[707]
there on wall street but what did happen
[710]
is that wall street learned it could no
[712]
longer afford to dismiss retail traders
[715]
and investors as the buzzing fly in the
[718]
room they should learn some expensive
[721]
lessons and there is strength in numbers
[724]
and persistence the original washi bed
[727]
subreddit had more than quadrupled in
[729]
size from less than 2 million prior to
[732]
2020 to over 11 million now retail
[737]
traders and investors have forever
[739]
solidified their place on wall street
[742]
and are now recognized as a force to be
[745]
reckoned with as for the meme stocks
[748]
where are they now one year later
[751]
well sadly they are in the toilet where
[754]
most of their fundamentals truly belong
[758]
but many stock prices are still a lot
[760]
higher than they were before the
[763]
movement thanks to the diamond hand
[766]
investors even though gamestop stock
[768]
price had dropped quite far from 500
[772]
it's still 900 percentage points higher
[775]
than before its rally
[777]
as for amc it had a high of 75
[781]
and it's now settling down around 15
[785]
as we speak which is still over 500
[788]
percent since the beginning of 2021.
[791]
most people saw this time period as a
[794]
revolution and that's exactly what it
[797]
was a movement a statement that retail
[801]
will not be ignored anymore however this
[804]
movement should not be taken as good
[807]
financial advice let's keep in mind that
[810]
gamestop and amc rallies was just part
[814]
of a movement and diamond handing is not
[817]
real trading nor investing
[820]
while the hoping and holding strategy
[822]
worked for a short period of time it's
[825]
not a repeatable strategy day after day
[829]
and year after year for professional
[831]
traders if you would like to see these
[834]
momentum stocks make a comeback in 2022
[838]
remember to smash the like button to
[841]
make these meme stocks great again
[844]
hopefully you really enjoyed this brief
[846]
summary of the wall street bets movement
[849]
and the aftermath one year later thank
[852]
you guys so much for watching as always
[855]
i'm the humble trader and i'll see you
[857]
guys next time
[864]
[Music]
[867]
[Applause]
[868]
