[4]
Are you in the middle class?
Looking to settle down maybe buy a home?
[7]
if so keep watching
What is going on everyone? Welcome back
[10]
to the world according to briggs
let's take a look at the best states to
[14]
be in the middle class in case you
didn't see the worst states for the
[17]
middle class video
let me recap what is considered the
[20]
middle class
pew research defines the middle class as
[23]
people earning between two-thirds
and double the median household income
[27]
in the united states which in 2019
was 61 000 this means that the category
[33]
of middle income
is made up of people making somewhere
[36]
between 42 000
and 123 000 in 2019.
[40]
do you fall into the middle class in the
1970s 61 percent of the united states
[46]
adults were living in the middle class
as of 2019
[49]
50 of us are the middle class is
shrinking
[52]
the states on this list offer you the
best chances to stay
[56]
in the middle class or even move up and
out of the middle class you know
[60]
the right direction not down like in the
last video
[63]
all right let's take a look
number 10 wisconsin wisconsin is one of
[68]
the top five states to raise a family
year over year it's always in the top
[72]
five this entire state is sort of
family orientated and people never leave
[76]
wisconsin has this strange thing where
they
[79]
are the state with the lowest percentage
of born and raised residents
[83]
migrating outwards they just don't leave
here wisconsin has a lot of good things
[87]
going for it that makes people stay and
not all of them include cheese
[91]
the five year change in middle class
income in
[94]
wisconsin is up one percent that doesn't
sound like a big deal i get it but keep
[98]
in mind
some of the worst states declined 10 to
[101]
almost 15 percent
the high school graduation rate in
[104]
wisconsin is 90 percent
great place to you know get an education
[108]
the in-state tuition fees are not that
bad
[110]
the 2019 to 2020 year it's about nine
thousand dollars some states are above
[117]
fifteen thousand
just for a year of school number nine
[121]
south carolina south carolina became the
eighth state to ratify the us
[125]
constitution
on may 23 1788 it also became the first
[129]
state to vote in favor of succession
from the union on december 20th
[133]
1860. these days it's a great place to
be for the middle class
[136]
one thing about south carolina in the
last decade it's become a place for
[139]
opportunity
if you like the south warm summers and
[143]
really nice beaches
south carolina is a good choice and if
[146]
you've ever dreamed about the united
states splitting in two again they'll
[149]
probably be the first state to green
light the idea
[151]
the five-year change in middle class
income households is
[154]
up 3.6 so they're
gaining where a lot of states are either
[159]
even or declining the high school
graduation rate here
[162]
is 85 solid not bad the median listing
price for a home in south carolina is
[169]
249 thousand dollars meaning you gotta
have roughly fifty thousand dollars
[173]
for a down payment you're twenty percent
so that's not terrible
[176]
home ownership in south carolina is
really high it's like seventy five
[180]
percent actually
seventy four point one percent so it's
[183]
pretty high compared to other states
where it's
[185]
barely 50 percent number eight north
carolina north carolina was once
[190]
combined with
south carolina to form a single
[192]
territory and it was also one of the
original 13 colonies it became the 12th
[197]
state in 1879
and it also sent the most troops to
[200]
fight in the civil war
part of the confederacy and then later
[203]
on we decided to let them back in
that was 1868 north carolina has always
[208]
been a great state for the middle class
or
[210]
lower class and they got nascar yeah
it's a thing
[213]
the tar heel state is a state that's
expected to see a lot of growth
[217]
post pandemic so we'll see how that one
works out the five year change in middle
[221]
class
income households is two percent it's
[224]
raised two percent that's good high
school graduation rate is 89
[227]
now you could go to college here for
pretty cheap the in-state tuition
[231]
for 2019-2020 is about seven thousand
dollars
[235]
that's not bad if you're looking to buy
a home the median home
[238]
listing price is 275 000 which means
your
[242]
down payment's got to be somewhere
around 54 55
[245]
000 definitely not a bad place to live
number seven ohio ohio like so many
[252]
other
places in this part of the country was
[254]
first settled by french fur traders it
later became a british colony in 1754
[259]
after the french and indian war great
britain gave ohio to the us
[263]
after they got their butts handed to him
in the revolutionary war so it's been
[266]
handed around a little bit the buckeye
state was incorporated into a territory
[270]
in 1787 and
ohio became the 17th state in 1803 which
[274]
kind of shocks me i thought
they were one of the early ones but i
[277]
guess i was totally wrong i don't know
how that one slipped by me
[280]
the five-year change in middle-class
income households is 1.2 percent which
[284]
is solid
their high school graduation rate is
[287]
better than i thought it was going to be
it's 86 the in-state tuition is a little
[291]
bit high
about 11 000 but you kind of get a sweet
[295]
deal when it comes to housing
the median home listing price is 177
[300]
000 that's pretty low the cost of your
20
[304]
mortgage down payment is gonna be a
little over thirty five thousand dollars
[308]
the average monthly mortgage payment in
ohio is
[311]
880 that's nice
number six arkansas i've given arkansas
[318]
a hard time on a lot of videos in the
past
[320]
mostly because the state it's just
wrecked with poverty in a lot of
[323]
different
areas that may not be like a forever
[326]
thing for arkansas
arkansas is showing some promise and
[329]
hardly anyone makes marrying your first
cousin jokes anymore if the northwest
[332]
corner of arkansas is
any indication of the future of the
[336]
natural state things are looking a lot
better fayetteville rogers and
[339]
springdale are not acting like
arkansas cities they have jobs good
[343]
schools educated people
and hardworking people the five-year
[347]
change in the middle class
income households is up just under three
[351]
percent
which is solid and arkansas has a 90
[354]
percent graduation rate that's
phenomenal you don't expect that from
[357]
them their in-state tuition
only nine grand a year now here's where
[361]
they really shine
the median home listing price is just
[365]
under 180
000 that's not bad that means your down
[369]
payment's got to be somewhere around 35
000 a little bit over and the property
[373]
tax is .63
in arkansas yeah like i said it could be
[377]
so much worse arkansas is looking better
all the time
[380]
number five tennessee at number five we
have volunteer state tennessee
[385]
if you stay out of memphis tennessee is
a solid choice for anyone looking to
[389]
start a new life
you have knoxville nashville and
[391]
chattanooga to choose from really unless
you go to a smaller
[394]
town i like chattanooga if you ever
visit there go to the tennessee aquarium
[397]
it's
one of the best aquariums i've ever seen
[400]
knoxville is probably a good place for
families and they got a lot of work
[403]
there
if you're younger maybe nashville
[405]
nashville always reminds me of
where people end up because they didn't
[410]
have enough gas to get all the way to
austin texas but it's a solid place for
[414]
the middle class
the five-year change in middle-class
[417]
income households is 2.09
that's good high school graduation rate
[423]
is 91
and it costs about 10 000 a year to go
[426]
to school there
the median home list price is 255
[430]
000 which means you need about 51 000 to
slap down for that 20 mortgage down
[436]
payment all in all
tennessee's start to become a very
[440]
popular place and it's not just the
upper class people that are looking to
[443]
move here actually they're not
it's middle class people number four
[448]
florida
and the sunshine state makes it onto a
[450]
list and we're not even talking about
hurricanes
[453]
that's amazing florida's very
interesting state to someone like me i
[456]
pour over stats about states
and cities every freaking day they
[460]
always seem to be on the list
for both good and bad it's weird so i
[464]
could do five
videos about positive stuff about states
[467]
and for some reason more often than not
florida seems like they're on that list
[470]
then i can turn around do five negative
videos of different stats and they
[474]
always seem to be there too they never
seem to be in the middle
[476]
they however are a great place for the
middle class they have some great cities
[480]
and a lot of good blue-collar jobs
throughout the state they also have
[484]
solid middle class stats
the five-year change in middle class
[487]
income households has risen
1.7 high school graduation rate isn't
[492]
the best it's only 82 percent but
you know these days anything over 80 to
[496]
me is a win the in-state tuition
and fees for 2019-2020 school year is
[502]
only
6 300 that's amazing the median home
[506]
list price is about three hundred
thousand two hundred and ninety six
[509]
thousand
it's a little bit up there and it's
[511]
gonna make your mortgage down payment
around
[513]
60 grand but what gets them on the list
is they're increasing
[517]
and it's dirt cheap to go to a college
there in most cases obviously private
[521]
schools can be a little bit different
but the state ones are
[523]
pretty cheap compared to other states
number three
[527]
missouri missouri became a u.s territory
as part of the louisiana purchase
[531]
in 1803 and a year later lewis and clark
rolled through
[534]
st louis to explore the rest of what
would soon be our country
[538]
and they were never seen or heard from
again just kidding
[541]
they found the pacific ocean and we're
back like two years later the show me
[545]
state has always been a state that
prides itself on hard work and being
[549]
down to earth
this is an amazing state has a lot of
[551]
good things going for it especially last
couple years things are getting better
[555]
i mean unless you're in st louis
missouri is a great place for the middle
[559]
class
this is a nice place to buy a home send
[562]
your kids to school
as long as like i said you're not doing
[566]
that in st louis
the five year change on middle class
[569]
income is
point five percent increase so they're
[572]
doing a little bit better not as good as
some of the other ones on here their
[574]
high school graduation rate again
90 which is solid tuition for a year is
[580]
about 8 000
and then when it gets to housing that's
[583]
where they really shine the median home
list price is about 187
[587]
000 which means your mortgage down
payment is going to be somewhere around
[590]
37.
all in all it's a good state and things
[593]
are looking good post-pandemic
for the state of missouri number two
[598]
mississippi as you can imagine i almost
fell out of my chair when i realized
[602]
mississippi was on a positive video
i really shouldn't have been that
[605]
surprised earlier this year we came to
find out that the magnolia state has one
[609]
of the top five education systems in the
country
[612]
yeah it's a great place for middle class
that's one of the top things the middle
[616]
class is looking for
good schools that's why i keep bringing
[618]
up how cheap it is to go to a university
in some of these states it's very
[622]
important to the middle class the five
year change in
[624]
middle class income households is 6.78
that's i think the best on this list
[630]
it's phenomenal they're actually
gaining money but you know really they
[634]
were so
low on the totem pole when it came to
[637]
earnings like for the last 20 30 years
this isn't as big a step as it sounds
[641]
they're finally catching up with people
but it's still solid the high school
[645]
graduation rate is right about 91
percent
[648]
the in-state tuition for 2019 is about 8
500 now here's one of the finer points
[654]
of mississippi it's got some of the
cheapest real estate in the country the
[657]
median home
list price is 185 000
[661]
that means you need right around 37 000
for your down payment
[664]
which is good the average monthly
mortgage payment in mississippi
[668]
is only 814 dollars and homeownership
rate is 73.7 percent
[673]
good numbers and number one
indiana at number one we have the
[678]
hoosier state indiana
indiana is leading the nation in
[681]
manufacturing job growth right now they
have for the last three years
[685]
they have jobs and they're going to have
more in the future
[688]
just stay out of indianapolis and you'll
be fine try fort wayne
[692]
that's a city that's growing and slowly
becoming a hot spot for blue-collar
[696]
millennials
yeah they're all heading there it's a
[698]
great place for families indiana has
some great stats the five-year change in
[703]
middle-class
income household is increased by 1.51
[707]
not the best on this list but solid
their high school graduation rate is 87
[713]
and the in-state tuition is about 9 500
that's not bad at all
[717]
now some of the good things are the
median home list price
[720]
is about 190 000 that means you need
roughly 38
[724]
000 for your down payment the average
monthly mortgage payment
[728]
in indiana is 833
and 73 of the population actually own
[734]
their home
this is a great place for the middle
[736]
class especially in
you know post-pandemic days it'll be
[742]
phenomenal
all right that's today's video if you
