WOW! Dave Chappelle Attacked Onstage! What Really Happened, Hero Uber Driver, & More - YouTube

Channel: Philip DeFranco

[0]
- I am beautiful. I am loved.
[1]
I am safe. I am free.
[3]
I don't need to be like them.
[5]
I just need to be like me.
[7]
- A great thing I think that everyone should hear,
[10]
except the idiot last night,
[12]
who made the incredibly poor decision
[14]
to try to attack Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl.
[16]
And try is the key word.
[18]
- Ladies and gentlemen make some noise for hip hop history.
[29]
I'm going to kill that (beep)
[31]
- So Chappelle kind of absorbs a blow,
[33]
sheds the tackle a little bit, he still goes down,
[35]
but right at this moment,
[37]
I think the narrator hit this asshole with.
[39]
- [Narrator] It was at this moment that he knew
[41]
he fucked up.
[42]
- I don't know if Chappelle travels like this all the time,
[44]
but when he goes to the Hollywood Bowl,
[45]
he's running like 30 plus people deep minimum.
[48]
A video taken from multiple angles appears to show
[50]
some of that 30 plus just taking turns
[52]
stomping this guy down backstage.
[53]
And I just wonder like
[54]
what did this guy think was gonna happen?
[56]
Like was he gonna be able to somehow fight off the group
[58]
like that self defense guy on TikTok?
[60]
Cause I don't that he thought his night was gonna end
[62]
with Jamie Foxx's bust rhymes
[64]
and Dave Chappelle treating him
[65]
like Rick James treats a couch.
[66]
Now for legal reasons
[67]
I'll say we don't know exactly who stomped him,
[70]
but we do know what Chappelle said to the audience
[72]
during and after.
[73]
- I've been doing this 35 years,
[75]
I just stomped (beep) backstage.
[78]
(audience laughing)
[80]
I've always wanted to do that.
[81]
- Also in attendance you had Chris Rock there
[83]
hopping on stage for a second
[84]
to ask a very important question.
[86]
- Is that Will Smith?
[88]
(audience laughing)
[89]
- And as far as the guy that attacks Chappelle,
[91]
the picture of him after the beatdown is rough.
[93]
That is not the right clip but close, here we go.
[99]
He looks like an action figure
[101]
that a dad put back together backwards.
[103]
But y'all joking aside, and before you're like,
[105]
oh, I feel bad for this guy.
[106]
Reports say that the man was actually carrying
[108]
a replica handgun with a knife.
[110]
And so the man who has since been identified as Isaiah Lee
[112]
was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon
[114]
and held on $30,000 bail.
[116]
An officer also confirming that he was injured
[118]
but declining to provide details though.
[120]
We can see some of it,
[121]
but ultimately that's really all we know right now.
[123]
We don't know the motive of Isaiah.
[125]
We don't know how this person slipped weapons past security
[127]
at the Hollywood Bowl.
[128]
The main thing whether you like or dislike Dave,
[131]
this is not okay.
[132]
It was kind of concerning,
[133]
that this seems like the beginning of a trend
[134]
that Will Smith helped open the door on.
[136]
If you don't like a comedian, you don't support them,
[138]
or you say like fuck you, you don't just attack them.
[141]
Because if it already wasn't a bad idea
[142]
because it was just wrong and it's illegal,
[144]
it's now a bad idea because sometimes these comedians
[147]
have entourages that will rearrange your body parts.
[150]
Yeah whether you like or you dislike Dave Chappelle
[152]
I'd love to know your thoughts on what happened last night.
[153]
And maybe while you let me know,
[155]
I'll say supp you a beautiful bastards.
[157]
Welcome back to the Philip DeFranco Show.
[158]
Hit that like button if you want me
[160]
to punch you in the throat and let's just jump into it.
[162]
And then I want you to buckle up
[165]
and get ready for this bam of the day story.
[167]
So if you don't know, this is Becca Moore
[168]
she's pretty big on TikTok, has around 800,000 followers,
[171]
she's known for her dead pan storytelling videos
[173]
about dating and other experiences,
[175]
and she recently went viral
[176]
because she was sharing this story that began at Coachella,
[178]
where she meets this hot guy who seems to be hitting on her
[181]
then as she explains.
[182]
- So as this guy was talking to me,
[183]
and I turned my back to him,
[184]
and my friend heard him say,
[186]
I'm gonna make this girl talk to me tomorrow.
[188]
I'm gonna steal her stuff. And he did. He did.
[192]
He took my phone, my credit card,
[194]
and keys to my rental car outta my purse.
[197]
- Which leaves her totally stranded in California,
[199]
away from home, unable to contact friends and family.
[202]
So she seems fucked but luckily the hotel gets her an Uber
[204]
to the sprint store so she can get a new phone,
[206]
and that's where she meets Raul.
[208]
One of the heroes of our story is not just an Uber driver,
[211]
he's the savior of the day because as Becca explains.
[214]
- And when the Uber driver picked me up,
[215]
he was like, ew what happened to you?
[218]
And I was like, nah, I just got robbed.
[220]
And he was like, not on my watch.
[224]
- So now Becca and Raul they're in this together.
[226]
They become friends. This is a buddy cop movie.
[228]
They're gonna solve this crime together.
[229]
But first caffeine.
[230]
So they go to Starbucks, they're working on this together.
[232]
They actually figure out the name of the guy
[234]
who robbed her as well as his Airbnb.
[235]
With the police then escorting them there,
[237]
so they could search the whole place,
[238]
but her stuff was nowhere to be found.
[239]
- And then the police were like, we're done.
[243]
Sorry, good luck on leaving this city.
[246]
- And Becca's words are always like, no they're idiots.
[248]
Don't worry, we are figuring this out.
[250]
But first margaritas, lots of liquids seemingly involved
[252]
with solving crime.
[253]
So Raul takes her to get drinks,
[255]
he pays for them and then realizes
[257]
there's one more trick left to try.
[258]
They drive back to the Airbnb, as she describes it,
[260]
they basically break in,
[262]
they use a tracker to locate her phone,
[263]
which turns out the guy abandoned outside,
[265]
probably realizing that it was gonna get him arrested.
[267]
- So yeah that man stole my phone, my keys, my credit cards.
[270]
You know what he gave me friendship with Raul.
[273]
- This whole ordeal, starting at 10:00 AM, ending at 6:00,
[277]
Raul there all the way. But the story doesn't end there,
[279]
because Becca learns more about Raul.
[281]
She discovers that he drove to Indio
[282]
all the way from Fresno that day,
[284]
just to earn some extra money for his 18 year old daughter
[286]
who as it turns out has cancer.
[288]
She was diagnosed back in June.
[289]
With Becca recalling him saying,
[291]
yeah she's going through chemo right now.
[292]
She's having a hard time.
[293]
She can't really stay awake and is losing a lot of weight.
[295]
And it's not just the daughter,
[297]
Raul's father is also battling cancer as well.
[299]
So after going through this
[300]
and posting the TikTok
[301]
Becca sets a GoFundMe up Raul and his family,
[304]
which has now raised over $150,000 dollars.
[306]
Though sadly his father passed away the next day.
[309]
So some of the funds are gonna be covering
[310]
his funeral expenses instead.
[312]
And of course if you wanna chip in there
[313]
we put the GoFundMe in the description down below.
[315]
But this I think is one of those important stories
[317]
to see and share because it often feels like
[320]
there's no reason to believe in other people,
[323]
in humanity and society and strangers,
[325]
and every now and then you just get this
[327]
fresh breath of air.
[328]
And that is why Becca and Raul are our bams of the day.
[332]
But from that I wanna take a second
[333]
to thank fantastic sponsors of today's show Raycon.
[336]
Raycon's wireless earbuds give you amazing audio quality
[338]
wherever you go, for half the price without compromise.
[341]

[343]
riding my bike and just wanna wind down.
[345]
They are really comfortable with optimized gel tips
[347]
for the perfect noise isolating.
[348]
Any ear fits so they won't budge and trust me, they won't.
[350]
And with mother's day approaching Raycon wireless earbuds
[352]
make a great gift for any mom.
[354]
Easy to set up and user friendly for those moms
[356]
who are just switching over to wireless earbuds,
[357]
and essential for super moms to help with multitasking,
[360]
listening to their favorite podcasts or music,
[361]
plus taking phone calls with vivid voice technology
[364]
all hands free.
[365]

[371]

[373]

[373]
it's no wonder that Raycon's Everyday Earbuds
[375]

[381]

[384]
And then let's talk about news that involves
[386]
expectation versus reality.
[388]
Sometimes those things line up often they don't.
[390]
The most recent example of that
[391]
is the job marketing starting salaries
[393]
for the class of 2022,
[394]
because in general things look good for these new graduates,
[397]
with a report
[398]
from the National Association of Colleges and Employers,
[400]
saying that employers plan to hire about 31% more
[402]
new degree holders from this year's graduating class
[404]
than they did for the class of 2021.
[405]
And the demand for workers has causes starting salaries
[408]
to go up.
[409]
But with recent data saying that the average salary
[411]
for these graduates is gonna be around $50,000
[413]
but reportedly their expectation is
[415]
they'll make around 103,000 dollars from their first job.
[418]
With Real Estate Witch finding that undergraduate students
[420]
on average overestimated their starting salaries by 88%.
[424]
Also noting that 10 years into their career
[425]
students anticipate making more than 200,000 dollars
[428]
which is well over the average mid-career salary
[430]
of 132,000 dollars.
[431]
Though of course all jobs and pay are not equal,
[434]
computer sciences and engineering,
[435]
the closest to that $100,000 expectation,
[437]
communications and humanities the furthest away,
[440]
which makes it all the more concerning
[441]
that reportedly seven and 10 seniors that graduate,
[443]
graduate with debt owing around 30,000 dollars per borrower.
[446]
But also some positive news,
[448]
reportedly studies show that college graduates
[450]
will earn nearly one million dollars more,
[451]
over the course of their careers.
[453]
Though I do wanna add well I'm not gonna be like
[454]
money doesn't buy happiness.
[456]
It does buy security and opportunity
[457]
which leads to happiness.
[459]
That said I will say
[460]
none of this takes into account quality of life.
[462]
So please don't choose what you're gonna do
[464]
for the rest of your life just because of dollars.
[465]
You never know how things are gonna go
[466]
but that is a guaranteed way to live a life
[469]
filled with regret.
[470]
When your time comes,
[471]
I hope you're not saying those three words,
[472]
coulda, woulda, shoulda.
[473]
Then in news it allows me to take a second to say
[475]
fuck TurboTax and Intuit.
[477]
Some good news,
[478]
if you're one of the people that were tricked by TurboTax
[480]
into paying to submit what was supposed to be
[481]
a free tax return between 2016 and 2018,
[483]
the New York Attorney General just announced
[485]
that the company has reached a 141 million dollar settlement
[488]
with all 50 states for essentially false advertising.
[490]
Talked about this in the past,
[491]
TurboTax has been under investigation
[493]
by multiple state and federal agencies,
[494]
for promising free tax returns and then charging for them.
[497]
But the Attorney General saying in a statement,
[499]
"Intuit cheated millions of low-income Americans
[501]
out of free tax filing services they were entitled to.
[503]
For years, Intuit misled the most vulnerable among us
[506]
to make a profit.
[507]
Today every state in the nation
[508]
is holding Intuit accountable
[509]
for scamming millions of taxpayers
[511]
and we're putting millions of dollars back into the pockets
[513]
of impacted Americans.
[514]
And so you may be one of the 4.4 million people
[517]
expected to now get a 30 dollar cheque
[519]
for each year that you were tricked
[520]
as part of the settlement.
[521]
And on top of that, TurboTax is going to have to stop
[523]
its free free free ad campaign.
[524]
Cause you know it's a fucking fucking fucking lie.
[526]
However, like these assholes always get to do,
[529]
Intuit TurboTax's parent company,
[530]
doesn't actually have to admit that it was a lie.
[532]
Part of the settlement
[533]
is they don't have to admit any wrongdoing.
[535]
And it in fact defended itself saying,
[537]
"Clear and fair with its customers,
[538]
including the nearly 100 million Americans
[540]
who filed their taxes free of charge with our products
[543]
over the last eight years."
[544]
Bullshit. With all that said,
[545]
this isn't the end of the saga for Intuit and TurboTax.
[547]
Because on top of this massive state led lawsuit,
[549]
it's also being sued by the FTC
[551]
for its deceptive free tax filing ads.
[553]
Meaning there's a chance that more customers will see
[555]
some kind of payout, which I will say
[556]
I know it's late for tax season,
[557]
but for next year, do not forget that the IRS website points
[560]
to a ton of actually free filing services.
[562]
Don't get tricked by these scumbags.
[564]
They're hoping that you wait till the last minute,
[565]
you're looking around, you accidentally pay them,
[567]
be careful out there.
[568]
I don't want these assholes milking you of money,
[569]
especially when in three weeks
[571]
I have a new beautiful bastard drop.
[572]
You're my cow, don't you ever forget it.
[574]
That was accidentally way more intense than I expected.
[577]
I think I may have anger issues, but also check it out.
[579]
There's a quick little sneak peek,
[580]
some Exhausted, Emotionally Exhausted,
[583]
my favorite new line, Are you taking care of yourself?
[585]
Cause y'all are you? Embrace Change. There's more.
[588]
I'll show you soon.
[589]
And then we need to talk about Russian atrocities
[591]
in a foreign country.
[592]
And this time it's not just Ukraine.
[593]
So this story centers around a network
[595]
of Russian mercenaries known as the Wagner Group.
[597]
Although Russian officials have denied links to the group,
[599]
who's true funding and ownership is unclear,
[601]
experts say that it has deep ties to the Kremlin
[603]
with the US claiming that it's financed
[605]
by a Russian businessman who's been dubbed "Putin chef"
[607]
because of his catering service,
[608]
which is staged elaborate banquets for the president.
[610]
Basically allowing Putin to downplay official casualty,
[612]
numbers and battlefields,
[613]
and this is himself for many war crimes Wagner commits.
[615]
As words of origins.
[616]
Wagner first emerged in 2014,
[617]
when it helped Russia annex Crimea.
[619]
Also appearing in Syria Libya,
[621]
the Central African Republican around 30 other countries
[623]
according to the Center for Strategic
[625]
and International Studies.
[626]
In fact right now, there are reportedly
[627]
at least a thousand Wagner mercenaries in the Donbas,
[630]
fighting alongside Russian troops.
[631]
With UN investigators and rights groups
[633]
alleging that they've looted private property,
[634]
targeted civilians and conducted mass executions,
[637]
which is in no way surprising
[638]
given that their leader's believed to be Dmitri Utkin
[641]
a retired Russian military officer
[642]
who's been photographed next to Putin.
[643]
But more importantly he appears to be a fucking neo-Nazi.
[646]
Even his alleged group's name Wagner,
[648]
supposedly takes its name from Hitler's favorite composer
[651]
of the same name.
[651]
But now one of the biggest things
[652]
is that evidence is emerged linking it to massacres
[655]
killing hundreds of civilians.
[656]
With this happening in the West African country of Mali
[658]
according to internal military documents
[660]
leaked to the guardian.
[661]
Specifically the Wagner Group arrived there last year
[663]
after striking a deal with the government
[664]
which experts say hired the mercenaries
[666]
for an estimated 10 million dollars per month
[668]
paid both in cash and through rights to extract minerals.
[670]
And the documents referred to these guys
[672]
as Russian instructors who fought alongside
[674]
Malian troops on what they referred to as mixed missions
[676]
against Islamist insurgents,
[678]
with data showing that it participated in at least
[680]
nine incidents between January and April this year,
[682]
killing 456 civilians.
[684]
With the worst by far allegedly taking place
[686]
at a village called Moura where 350 to 380 men
[689]
were just massacred.
[690]
All this confirming what has been known
[692]
by local witnesses for a long time now,
[693]
that the Wagner Group is fighting in Mali.
[695]
Now the country's military which sees power in a coup
[697]
in May of last year,
[698]
has insisted that Russians are only instructors
[700]
and not deployed in combat roles.
[702]
Also denying killing any civilians,
[703]
claiming it neutralized terrorists
[705]
and sometimes even covering up Russian deaths
[707]
by counting them as its own soldiers.
[708]
And notably all of this comes just a day
[710]
after human rights watch alleged
[711]
that forces in the Central African Republic
[713]
identified as Russian,
[714]
appeared to have killed and tortured civilians since 2019.
[717]
So Russia not just focusing their horrible in one place,
[719]
but rather spreading it around.
[721]
But ultimately that is where that story
[722]
and today's show ends.
[723]
As always thank you for watching,
[724]
being a part of that conversation down below.
[727]
My name is Philip DeFranco.
[728]
You've just been filled in.
[729]
I love yo faces and I'll see you tomorrow.
