for star notes air notes and fancy

serial numbers and today

i brought a little list of examples of

fancy serial numbers
[24]
and this is just kind of a small list
[26]
i'll talk about some of the
[27]
uh differences and caveats that you can
[29]
find
[30]
because there's a lot of different ways
[32]
to look at serial numbers
[34]
these are some of the more popular
[36]
well-known style of serial numbers
[39]
and of course we're always looking for
[40]
the star note now if you're new to the
[42]
channel or you're new to currency
[44]
collection
[45]
collecting a star note is actually a
[48]
replacement note
[49]
of an error what happens is well the
[52]
united states uses a
[53]
double accounting system and when
[56]
there's an error on the note that is
[57]
caught at the
[58]
the printing press or the mint they have
[60]
to destroy the note
[62]
and replace it with a like note with the
[65]
same exact serial number
[67]
so right here is an example of a star
[69]
note

boom there's a star right there and this
[72]
one is actually a really nice example of
[74]
a
[75]
low serial number um i consider anything
[78]
under
[79]
10 000 to be a pretty low number this
[81]
being under 5k
[83]
makes it even that much cooler so we're

going to get into this right now i'm

going to talk about the different types

that we're looking for on this list

and then we're going to get into the
[91]
first strap so here we go we have types

of serial numbers to search for and i'll

go slow

right there binary two numbers and that
[98]
can be any number

nine eight one two oh one
[103]
any two numbers that repeat a ladder one
[106]
two three four five six seven eight
[107]
that's a perfect ladder

broken ladder five four three two three

a radar one three zero zero zero three

and what a radar is is it reads the same

going back and forth this could also
[121]
call be called a

radar with bookends and uh because the

one three and the three one is
[126]
considered bookend also

if this was a three one zero zero zero

three one that would be just called a

book end

all right then you have a solid

if you have a serial number that's the

same number all the way across that's
[140]
considered a solid that's a very cool

find

you have quads here i use two two two

for quads doubles is basically what it

means doubles there's

doubles of the numbers one one two two

one one two two
[154]
uh this is a doubles repeater you could

have one one three three four four five

five that's still a doubles as long as

it

is doubles now of course here i'm
[163]
showing an example of an

ultra low serial number zero zero zero

all the way to number fifteen

um if you find anything in the first you
[171]
know

hundred you're doing unbelievably

awesome

and then a high serial number nine nine
[177]
nine nine i put it all the way across so

i had high cereal solid

but anything with a couple nines after
[184]
it is going to be considered pretty high
[186]
number especially when you start getting
[188]
into this spot
[190]
if these are all nines in here you have
[192]
a heck of a find

and i hope this helps clarify some

things for people there's a lot of ways

like i said to look at this

uh you know quads and repeaters and
[202]
radars and stuff can be
[204]
looked at different ways broken ladders

can actually be
[208]
really complicated like this could

actually be six
[211]
five four

five six seven
[219]
six five you know you can have the
[221]
latter go

up and down as long as it goes up

sequentially by one digit or down by one

digit

if there's a zero in the front that's

usually not counted

i don't know why but that's just kind of

the rule when it comes to ladders and
[235]
other stuff

but we're going to get into this first

strap right here hopefully we find

convoluted broken ladders can really be

there are people that will argue that

this is a true broken ladder

because the digits go up and i'll show

you how it did scope

up by one or down by one and i'll show

you how so they're going to look at it

and then six five four

to me um you know one the bill's in

really bad condition you see some

molding

of some sort down here very faded and

whatnot

to me i call that kind of a stretch

um but i've seen it sold this way and

presented this way

so we'll call this one a broken ladder

for now i'm gonna put it back into

circulation but i wanted to show you

guys how

truly like i said confusing or

convoluted these

uh searches can be when you're looking

at serial numbers and then some of them

are really straightforward

so i'll put that aside we'll be back

wanted to bring you in on this one

because this one to me

there's a little bit of controversy

around whether or not

how collectible over inked bills are

as you can see this serial number looks

perfectly normal except for a little bit

of an alignment issue which is kind of
[328]
neat that i just figured this out while

seeing this and then you can see how
[333]
really over ink the one and the six is
[335]
here
[336]
and that you know these don't really
[338]
line up perfectly the six is up a little
[341]
the one's a little janked over to the
[343]
side the six on the end is up higher
[346]
so this one i will actually pull because
[349]
the serial numbers have some issues with
[351]
alignment and stuff
[354]
but i avoid the over-inked bills
[357]
on the on the serial number just because
[359]
i see how common it is
[361]
but there are people and you see them
[363]
for sale all the time on ebay
[365]
so you want to keep your eye out if
[366]
you're going to get that make sure that
[368]
it's something that maybe the whole
[369]
entire
[370]
serial number is super green and smeared
[372]
or

you know something a little bit more

good runs and sometimes you just got to

in the second strap whoo a lot to do

so i pulled this one out because i've

seen quite a few times people

advertising

what they call devil notes with the 666

at the end or the beginning or somewhere

within the bill um honestly i don't know

how much extra premium that gives other

than what the person's willing to pay

for it

but i thought it'd be something cool to

point out to you guys that you know

there's other caveats and things that
[510]
people are looking for and sometimes
[511]
you'll be able to sell a bill
[513]
just on how cool the serial number is or
[516]
if somebody's looking for a certain
[518]
serial number you just never know
[520]
but the important thing is to keep
[522]
looking and to give you an idea guys we
[524]
had this one find in the entire thing

and i'm looking through the last couple
[529]

now that was a close good bill if that

five was a three oh man

would have been super happy with that um
