deal with better than becoming a
[1]
millionaire it's paying zero taxes on
[4]
that a million bucks because you know
[5]
what taxes are not fun tax is not all
[9]
about you but I don't really enjoy
[11]
paying taxes if you're one of those
[12]
people then why are you here like go
[15]
somewhere else go go go away but
[18]
seriously having a million dollars where
[19]
you're paying zero taxes on that money
[21]
that's an amazing feeling
[26]
[Music]
[29]
and what the best way that you can get
[31]
there is using one of my favorite tools
[33]
which is the Roth IRA where does this
[35]
Roth IRA we're gonna find out more today
[37]
[Music]
[55]
what's going on Party People jeff rose
[57]
goodfinancialcents.com what is all about
[85]
and how do you get tax-free money well
[88]
let's talk about that now so when it
[90]
comes to saving for retirement you have
[91]
a few different options so most people
[93]
will take advantage of the 401k or a
[95]
traditional IRA and these are great
[98]
they're just a little old-school right I
[100]
mean they still work they can still work
[103]
but the Roth IRA can be so much better
[106]
so here's how these works so if you're
[109]
putting money into a 401k or a
[111]
traditional IRA all the money that
[113]
you're putting into it is pre-tax so you
[115]
get a nice tax deduction the money then
[117]
grows taxed at first you're not paying
[119]
any money on any interest or earnings or
[121]
dividends that you make off those
[122]
investments but then that retirement we
[125]
start pulling that money out that's when
[126]
you pay tax so that's how the 401k and
[129]
the traditional IRA works so how is the
[131]
raw fairy different how is it better so
[134]
with the Roth IRA you don't get any
[136]
pre-tax deduction so anything that you
[138]
put into it is after-tax and the way I
[140]
like to think about that is if you're
[142]
making a payment like a car payment or
[145]
insurance payment that's all after-tax
[147]
right like you don't get any tax
[148]
deductions for those so the money you
[151]
pay into the Roth is all after-tax so no
[153]
tax break then it still grows
[155]
tax-deferred like the traditional 401k
[157]
and the traditional IRA but then at
[160]
retirement when you pull that money out
[162]
zero taxes are to be paid zero no taxes
[166]
and that's huge on so many levels and
[169]
that's why I love about talking about
[171]
the Roth IRA so anytime I'm talking to a
[173]
younger person I want them to start
[175]
investing into a Roth IRA because you
[177]
have so much time to take advantage of
[179]
compounding interest so I love talking
[181]
to younger investors and getting them
[182]
started in this
[184]
yeah I got the gray hairs but I'm still
[186]
young I'm still young I'm fit okay you
[190]
see at this point people are starting to
[192]
get it a little bit when it comes to
[193]
Roth battery they like the idea of
[195]
taking it to Uncle Sam and not paying
[197]
any income tax but it's so hard to
[199]
comprehend exactly how it works so let's
[202]
look at a real-life example let's say
[204]
that you're making $50,000 and you can
[206]
put away $5,000 for retirement if we're
[209]
taking a batch of a 401 K or a
[210]
traditional IRA we won't add up that
[213]
$5,000 from the 50,000 so you're only
[216]
gonna pay taxes on $45,000 so that's a
[219]
nice tax break on paying forty five
[221]
thousand when you made 50 that's not too
[223]
bad I'll take it but how does it get
[225]
better how does it get better with the
[227]
Roth IRA so in the same example you're
[229]
making fifty thousand dollars and you're
[231]
putting five thousand dollars into the
[233]
Roth IRA you don't get any tax break for
[236]
that five thousand dollars so you still
[237]
have to pay tax on the 50 thousand it's
[240]
still gonna grow tax-deferred it's when
[242]
you pull that money out that it's
[243]
tax-free at this point you're probably
[245]
wondering wait what I heard that I'm
[247]
saving some taxes here with V 401 K and
[250]
the other IRA but I'm not getting a tax
[253]
break with the Roth what's the song I
[254]
don't get it help me understand Jeff
[256]
help me
[257]
so let's fast-forward this a bit the
[259]
$5,000 is now growing and it's
[262]
compounding over time and now it's worth
[264]
$50,000 if that $50,000 is inside a 401
[268]
K or a traditional IRA you're gonna pay
[270]
anywhere between 20 to 25% tax or more
[274]
on that money so we're talking about ten
[276]
thousand to twelve thousand five hundred
[278]
and taxes that you have to give away to
[282]
the IRS just give it just take it take
[284]
it others I want it and this is how the
[286]
Roth IRA gets better so the $50,000 that
[289]
you didn't get a tax break on before but
[291]
now when you pull that money out it is
[294]
completely and 100% tax-free read my
[298]
lips
[299]
tax freeze tax-free and that my friend
[302]
is why I love the Roth IRA so a common
[305]
question I will usually get at this
[307]
point time is well how much does the
[309]
Roth IRA make or how much does it pay
[311]
how much interest does it pay so the one
[314]
thing it to realize about a Roth IRA it
[315]
is not an investment so you're not
[317]
a Roth IRA all of Roth IRA is it's an
[321]
account type or as I like to say in an
[323]
investment vehicle and then you decide
[325]
what passengers go inside that vehicle
[327]
for example you can buy a mutual fund
[330]
and put that into a Roth IRA you could
[332]
buy an individual stock you could buy an
[334]
ETF there are a lot of different
[336]
investments that you can in place inside
[338]
that Roth IRA usually when I've hurt
[340]
somebody or they ask me how much
[342]
interest doesn't pay they've gone to a
[344]
bank and they want to open a Roth IRA in
[347]
a bank well a bank is typically only to
[349]
offer you CDs or money market or savings
[352]
accounts so they're just paying you a
[353]
fixed interest rate and you can do that
[355]
at a bank but it's not the Roth IRA
[357]
that's paying interest it's the CD
[358]
inside that Roth IRA that is alright for
[361]
many when I shared that $50,000 example
[363]
and show how they can say ten thousand
[366]
or twelve thousand five hundred taxes
[367]
that gives them excited but it we're
[369]
still not quite there we need to see
[371]
truly how powerful the Roth IRA is
[374]
especially if we have twenty thirty
[376]
years to look forward to so let's first
[378]
answer this question you know how much
[380]
can you put into a Roth IRA right now
[382]
you can put in up to $5,500 per year if
[385]
you're over the age of 50 you can put
[386]
into $6,500
[388]
since most of you watching this are
[389]
probably under the age of 50 5500 per
[392]
year is what you can put in so if we
[394]
break that out per month that is four
[395]
hundred and fifty eight dollars and 33
[397]
cents you can put in per month or just
[400]
over fifteen dollars per day inside the
[402]
Roth IRA so let's say that you're a high
[404]
achiever your action taker and you're
[406]
watching this video and you go open a
[407]
Roth IRA today and you started maxing
[412]
out the Roth IRA where you're putting in
[413]
four hundred fifty eight dollars a month
[415]
and you did that for thirty years any
[417]
average 10% return you would have over a
[420]
million dollars inside that Roth IRA and
[423]
what makes it even better which I talked
[425]
about at the beginning this video is
[426]
that that a million dollars gets how
[428]
much taxes you're paying nothing it's
[430]
tax-free or if you had that money in a
[433]
401k or a traditional IRA you be paying
[435]
anywhere from two hundred to two hundred
[437]
and fifty thousand dollars in taxes as
[440]
you take that money up so which would
[442]
you rather have a million dollars
[444]
tax-free or eight hundred thousand that
[447]
you gave two hundred thousand to the IRS
[451]
answer that one so that's why I love
[453]
talking about the Roth IRA especially
[455]
for younger people now if you don't have
[457]
$15 a day or four hundred fifty eight
[460]
dollars a month that's okay you can get
[462]
started investing with a lot smaller
[464]
than that I talked about this in other
[465]
videos but I start investing with as
[467]
little as $25 a month into a mutual fund
[471]
so it doesn't take having a timeline to
[473]
get started but like I always say the
[475]
key is to just get started if you don't
[477]
know where to start or where to go open
[479]
a Roth IRA you have so many places to go
[482]
if you want to work locally you could go
[484]
to a local bank now keep in mind that
[486]
may only offer you CDs or money-market
[488]
some makes may offer investments but
[490]
most of them don't another option could
[492]
be going to like a local brokerage firm
[494]
there are tons of them out there just be
[496]
careful what they're trying to sell you
[497]
make sure that you trust them they're
[499]
not trying just to sell you something to
[501]
earn a commission make sure you
[502]
understand what you're putting money
[503]
into but guess what if you're a high
[505]
achiever action taker that just likes to
[507]
wear their pajamas all the time you
[509]
don't like to leave your house maybe you
[511]
need some more friends but it does the
[512]
case you can open up a Roth IRA right
[515]
now in your pajamas on your Katz right
[517]
just like you it's not watching this
[519]
video so there are playable online
[521]
brokers that you can go to now one that
[523]
I talk about a lot is betterment now why
[525]
I like betterment because you don't have
[527]
to choose the investments with
[529]
betterment you just tell them what's
[530]
your goal what you trying to accomplish
[532]
like how much how long does this money
[534]
need to sit there for so if it's for a
[536]
retirement goal they're going to choose
[538]
ETF's exchange-traded funds based off
[540]
your wrist hogs and your timeline so
[542]
there really is no thinking to it other
[545]
than opening account and putting money
[547]
into it but if you want to have more
[548]
control on the actual investments you're
[550]
putting your money into look at other
[551]
options like Ally financial or TD
[554]
Ameritrade or even going straight to a
[556]
mutual fund companies like Vanguard or
[557]
TV or provides more fidelity with all
[559]
these options you're gonna have more
[560]
control on the mutual funds ETFs at
[563]
you're putting your money into but the
[564]
key thing is to stop procrastinating
[567]
because check this out for somebody that
[569]
starts putting their money in at the age
[570]
of 25 if they're putting a hundred
[572]
dollars a month and they earn over ten
[574]
percent interest they could accrue up to
[576]
eight hundred to a million dollars at
[578]
the time of retirement but somebody that
[580]
waits 10 years and puts the exact same
[582]
money in there
[583]
going to have 700,000 less or more at
[587]
retirement just by waiting 10 years to
[590]
get started so stop procrastinating stop
[593]
making excuses get started if you're
[596]
interested in any of these online
[597]
options check out in the description
[598]
below I've got links to the different
[601]
places I talk about I also have a blog
[602]
post that talks about all the different
[603]
places you can open the Roth IRA there
[606]
are so many choices are a lot of options
[607]
once again just pick one and get started
[610]
it might not be the best one today but
[612]
that's okay because you'll learn a lot
[613]
to that process or I want to hear from
[616]
